FaceBook Ad Executive: "I Have Seen All of the Russian Ads and I can Say Very Definitely That Swaying The Election Was *NOT* the Main Goal."

The left is freaking out that someone told the truth and disrupted their precious unfalsifiable conspiracy theories.

By the way, did you catch this? Michael Moore actually showed up at one of the RUSSIAN-organized anti-Trump protests. Does that mean he was COLLUDING with RUSSIA?

Progressive director Michael Moore participated in an anti-Trump protest in New York that was organized by Russians, according to information released Friday by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

....

One Russia-sponsored event was a protest of then President-Elect Donald Trump on Nov. 12, 2016, called "Trump is NOT my President," and it involved Moore.

On the day, Moore tweeted:

Sorry! I thought I posted this an hour ago!!! I'm taking a light day but I didn't mean for it to be this light!

10 Yeah the Russians weren't for any candidate. They were just trying to spread dissention, chaos, and infighting. It worked, better than they hoped. The press and the left were all too willing to help them out, even more useful than any useful idiot that ever came before them.

And now, faced with having to admit they were absolutely wrong about "hacking" and "collusion" are quadupling down by screaming even louder about treason because Trump won't do anything about them and how he won't enact their demanded Russian sanctions.

55 That facebook article is worth reading. Here's a partial summary they have:

-An estimated 10 million people in the US saw the ads. We were able to approximate the number of unique people ("reach") who saw at least one of these ads, with our best modeling
-44% of total ad impressions (number of times ads were displayed) were before the US election on November 8, 2016; 56% were after the election.
-Roughly 25% of the ads were never shown to anyone. That's because advertising auctions are designed so that ads reach people based on relevance, and certain ads may not reach anyone as a result.
-For 50% of the ads, less than $3 was spent; for 99% of the ads, less than $1,000 was spent.
-About 1% of the ads used a specific type of Custom --Audiences targeting to reach people on Facebook who had visited that advertiser's website or liked the advertiser's Page -- as well as to reach people who are similar to those audiences. None of the ads used another type of Custom Audiences targeting based on personal information such as email addresses.
-Of the more than 3,000 ads that we have shared with Congress, 5% appeared on Instagram. About $6,700 was spent on these ads

If you've ever done any advertising on facebook, you know better how it works; they take the ads you build and try to match them to people that their algorithms say will be interested, and sometimes it reaches nobody. And just because someone "saw" an ad -- it showed up on their wall -- doesn't mean they looked at it much if at all, let alone clicked on it.

70 Two completely separate points

1)The idea that Trump colluded with Russia is beyond stupid and as far as I'm concerned has been completely vindicated. The Russians were just agents of chaos

2) Russia is still a dangerous country that means us harm.

I think what they were doing here was sort of pathetic, but there's lots of evidence the KGB whipped up a lot of the civil rights nonsense that boiled over.

My big fear was that if Russia really wanted to watch America burn right now, Putin could come out and lie that he cut a deal with Trump to help him in the election and America would be in the midst of a hot civil war.

85 How does dividing the country benefit the Russians?

We are Russia's main rival in the world for power and influence. China is the other, then the EU. Russia wants to be number one big boss in the world, and has always, especially under super nationalist Putin.

The weaker the US is, the less of a rival we are. The more time and energy spent on dealing with internal politics and strife in the USA, the less the government has for dealing with international affairs. A smooth-sailing USA is a big problem for Russia's plans and efforts around the world. Plus, it hurts our economy, which benefits Russia by making us less attractive as a trading partner, etc.

You would think that someone (Hillary) wanting to be President and, by default, leader of the free world would be smart enough not to try and frame the opposing candidate with accusations that she, herself, was committing with vigor. It brings up two questions:

1. Are her advisers and she this stupid? (rhetorical)

2. Is she so corrupt that she couldn't come up with a similar framing scenario that didn't include something she has committed or is still committing? (unfortunately, it's beginning to look like this is rhetorical as well)

173 Nice for Goldman to speak out with just some basic facts.

But this nonsense about "dividing" America? The Russians? Stupid Farcebook ads nobody saw?

Face palm.

We are "divided" because some are racist, authoritarian, illiterate fanatics with not a hint of historically meaningful American mindset or values. They guide/whip up/deceive an enormous number, near a majority, who fit one or more of those descriptions, but who are apolitical or just your typical LIV American.

The stupid, destructive, loathsome, indefensible policies and actions of other "Americans" are the problem. Duh. Stupid and puny irrelevant "information operations" by bumbling Russians didn't make health insurance suddenly unaffordable for 18 million people. They didn't deface the national govt. with a crudely racist demagogic posture for 8 years. They didn't create a lawlessness that has spread for decades resulting in not just economic damage and death and injury for citizens, but erosion of the very concept of citizenship and sovereignty.

THESE things, and many others, "divide" us. As they should. "Unity" means bupkis to anyone more mature than an 11-yr old, who thinks instead of emotes.

And ridiculous, invisibly small foreign "info campaigns" have nothing at all to do with it. So Goldman both blurts out some obvious and long ignored or suppressed reality, and embraces the idiotic false framework of "division" at the same time. I guess .500 is pretty good, on such topics, for someone as freakish as a Facebook executive.

THAT could be a fun debate.

But he got better at 'being' John Wayne. His first few movies, he's awfully stiff. By 'Stagecoach' he had his performance down pretty pat.

By 'Tall in the Saddle', he's the kind of guy who you just know you can rely on, who you're safe with if you're a good guy, who you can't push around if you're bad.

I understand things in dollars and cents terms. If the Russians have engaged in dividing the country and opening up the division, I have already made certain that the part of my survivors families who subscribe to leftist concepts won't get a nickel from me when I die.

I don't see how that does anything except reward free market conservative types who will kick the Ruskies ass repeatedly in the marketplace.

It seems like a pathetically weak poorly thought out strategy.

Right, if it had just been the ads, they'd have been of pretty miniscule impact. And I'm confused how running ads is illegal in any sense. But the left went berserk with the theme for two reasons that I can figure out

1) The Democratic party desperately needed a squirrel to distract from the Podesta emails which showed them to be corrupt, racist, condescending, incompetent, and possibly perverted and the way they'd ignored the will of their own voters to ram Hillary Clinton down their throats, who lost.
2) The need to oppose President Trump so that his efforts to clean the swamp are hindered if not blocked.

Posted by: JackStraw

_____________

I honestly don't think that was the end game, more just a happy coincidence.

Most of the money was supposedly spent after the election was over and it was anti-Trump.

My theory is the Russians were just screwing around with social media as it was a new propaganda tool that allowed them access to American media they didn't have before. They wanted to see what worked and what didn't.

Before, the Russians or the former Soviet USSR really couldn't take out ads on network TV without it being obvious and extremely expensive.

So they played around with this a bit as an experiment and the Democrats decided this was going to be the reason they picked for why Trump won to make him illegitimate.

243 "Divided" is meaningless. Who cares. The only thing that matters is making sure the authoritarian racist economic illiterate freaks have no power, and cause no damage.

And, though outlandishly redundant, the idiotic concept that any outside info campaign has caused any "division" just again confirms what a dumbed down nation it has become.

The dumb thugs beating up Trump supporters outside the San Jose rally venue, watched by smirking police, didn't materialize because of Farcebook ads. The Third World scene in Chicago, at the Trump event, similar circumstances, didn't occur because of foreign info campaigns (and Cruz's jaw-dropping reaction wasn't based off of foreign influence, either).

Foreign info ops have nothing to do with the country's degradation, the corruption of its institutions, the erosion of the unique mindset and values. These are all 100% home-grown. By your family, neighbors, colleagues, rec team team-mates, and the guy at the gas station. Not "Soros!!", or the Bilderbergers, or 20-something Russian IT contractors overseen by inept FSB middle-managers.

I agree. I think the only place we differ is whether or not they did this intentionally as part of a plan. I think they knew that the left and the media would become obsessed with this and try to use it as a means to delegitimize Trump and keep us focused on fighting each other rather than looking outside. They've been spying on us for a long time and using our media since the days of Duranty, they know how bad they are and how easy they can be played.

I mean we have documented proof that Hillary colluded with Russians and the media is purposefully ignoring it and running with this dumb nontroversy. They just can't quit it.

Wiki plot excerpt:

Josey Wales, a Missouri farmer, is driven to revenge by the murder of his wife and young son by a band of pro-Union Jayhawker militants. The murderers were from Senator James H. Lane's Kansas Brigade, led by Captain Terrill.

After grieving and burying his wife and son, Wales joins a group of pro-Confederate Missouri Bushwhackers led by William T. Anderson and fights in the Civil War. At the conclusion of the war, Captain Fletcher persuades the guerrillas to surrender, saying they have been granted amnesty. Wales refuses to surrender. As a result, he and one young man are the only survivors when Captain Terrill's Redlegs massacre the surrendering men. Wales intervenes and guns down several Redlegs with a Gatling gun.

I'm actually down with all of those except #5. Back bacon is OK but ours is far superior. But let's just annex America's Hat based on 1-4.

331 I got no problem with hurling, but can anyone really tell me why it is a "sport"

The Olympics don't only have sports, they also have athletic competitions. Stuff that takes athletic ability but isn't a team effort against another team etc. Shot Put or downhill skiing for instance: not a sport, but an athletic competition.

334 Josey Wales is unrepentantly pro-Southern, for better or worse.

Doesn't the Outlaw Josey Wales start with Clint gattlinging a bunch of Union soldiers? That put me off a bit.

They were deserters, as I recall, renegades in Union uniforms.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor

I don't watch Westerns, but I will finish Josey Wales whenever I run into it. One of my favorite movies of all time.

I don't find it particularly pro-Southern, other than CPT "Red-Legs" Terrell is a Union soldier, and Josey is southern. Wales just wants to be left alone. He only joined up with the Confederates because Terrell's troop burned his home and killed his family.

And the gunning down of Union soldiers mentioned...the whole scene evolves from Wales' troops surrendering and turning in their guns ("we'll be needin' those, for squirrels and such!"), and after doing so, were mowed down by the gatling. Which Wales took over, and returned the favor...so no, it wasn't Wales gunnin' down some sweet, sleeping Union Boys.

Once again, the book beats the movie by a long shot. Crow Killer, about "Liver Eatin' Johnson".

Oh jeez, Fergie didn't do a terrible job. It's a tough song for just about everyone. Is she considered 'right-wing' or something? Because I don't understand the obsession over this.

I try to sing the National Anthem and it sounds like my nutz are in a vise. Being slowly tightened as the song goes on.

With hurling you have so many options and combinations:

1. distance
2. accuracy
3. spread
4. chunk grouping
5. color patterns (I admit this one is a bit subjective and has caused some controversies in the past, especially during the Cold War era)
6. speed hurling.

345 "We are quite divided as a nation," writes Mr. Goldman.

Hey, I know. Maybe, to address this, Facebook could "curate" our news feeds, so that people who spend a lot of time on it would see mainly:

1) Pieces that confirm them in their angrily held viewpoints;

2) The worst and dumbest versions their opponents' views, so they and their friends can all virtually high-five each other over how great they are and how awful and dumb their opponents are.

346 Sigh
America has seen it's best days. Democracy is on the wain due to Left.

I don't see how we recover

I thought that myself for quite a while, as virtually every Moron here can attest. I made no secret of my bleak outlook for years.

However, this dreariness is starting to fade. I pondered the role that the president plays in our society and looked at Bronco Bama and what he was able to do on the negative end of that spectrum and the inescapable results of his "leadership." Yeah, it was enough to make virtually anyone depressed.

So I resigned myself to having Her Heinous installed as president. Surely, the end was nigh and it very well would've been the end of America as most of us know it.

But then, Trump burst on the scene. I didn't align with everything he said at first (I was a Cruz supporter for a long time, right up until he blamed Trump for the violence at the rallies. This was a few weeks after Project Veritas caught Progressive/Democrat Robert Creamer admitting that he organized and paid for disruptors.)

I also noticed that the people and organizations that opposed Trump were the very same people who hated me and everything I think is important about my beliefs and my country. So I thought, "I have nothing to lose by voting for him. At least if he occupies the Nation's Bully Pulpit, he'll serve as a counter to the previous eight years of abject hatred of America and maybe, just maybe, he'll start to turn things around just a bit."

Which he did. I've seen such a dramatic about-face from B.O that I almost think there's something else going on, too. It's been much better that I'd hoped.

So the dreariness is fading. Thank Goodness.

349 The Russians cannot exploit any division unless there is a sympathetic group.

Remind me, which party demonstrably sought the Russians help?

Notice that liberals response is- you should just accept our point of view. Unquestioned. For the good of the country or something.

It is not, let us have an intellectual discussion and reach factual conclusions. It is simply, yield!

If there was an interchange of ideas in trues American democratic fashion, there would not be this level of division and hostility. Ditto the liberals use of various groups to carry out their deeds so they can say, look that is organic disagreement that supports our point of view.

Remember that liberals do not want to govern, they want to rule. Look at what happened when they had majority control of Congress and under 8 years of Obama.

The proof is self evident. It only survives because their media division covers it up.

350 I initially howled after reading the indictment. Then I got mad. This dog-whistling a plea for unity after an attempted coup d'état is a joke. You don't get to put the genie back in the bottle, and we don't have to recognize a Democrat/leftist government as legitimate ever again. Besides, they are even more dangerous than the Russkies and more criminal.

I mean, was this intended to lie flat or was it intended to stir up an international hornet's nest? I'm not sure there's another option other than rank foolishness.
