We had come up from Homestead AFB as the 309th Fighter Squadron after Hurricane Andrew. We became the 79th Fighter Squadron later and the 309th flag went to Luke AFB, Az. the way to tell the squadron is to look at the top of the vertical tail for the yellow and black paint strip, and the SW tells you it is a Shaw jet.

148 Most large wild animals will avoid humans. An older sick bear or cougar may go after a full sized human but that's rare. Young ones are usually just curious and that can be dangerous.
I do feel badly about the dog. His owner was not careful enough. I do carry in the mountains almost always. I've encountered black bears and cougars both. The Cascades have a good collection of critters that can kill you. There's even a wolf pack nearby.
That said, I mostly carry because of the two legged predators.

We had three toy poodles. Their combined weight was less than 20 pounds. If they heard something outside they would form a ring around Mrs. JTB to protect her. If she wasn't around to protect, they hid behind me. Apparently I was the alpha puppy. We still smile thinking about it.

265 The FBI needs to get their act together. They dropped the ball on the Florida shooter.
Deputies had been called to the kid's house 39 times over the past 7 years.
This was one troubled young man. Why was he not receiving mental health services? This is not to excuse what he did, you understand. If someone had heeded the clear warning signs, this tragedy might have been avoided.

Hah !!!

Story Time ? Hell Yeah ... Story Time !!!

So - I do Automation and Controls. Think Factory Stuff. It's really not that hard once you know how.

So - in the nineties, when I started, linking the controllers out on the Factory Floor to computers to track inventory and stuff was really just getting started.

So - of course - that's when Factory Managers and Production Managers started wanting to see EXACTLY what was going on with the production lines - in real time. Why ? Well ... because it was cool, I guess.

So my dumb ass - not even five years out of school - gets asked in a meeting ...

Manager - Scogg, this data on my computer screen, how accurate is it ?

Scogg - well, within in a few seconds.

Manager - What can you do to make it faster.

Scogg - Why ? You don't do anything about shit you knew last month.

You know what, you live once. Fuck those people. You answer to one person....YOU. Your life is your voyage. You know how many times I had older relatives tell me I was fucking up. I was the original guitar player of a well known speed metal/thrash band. I showed an uncle a picture of the band at the time. He tells me he wouldn't hire them. I looked at him straight in the face and say don't worry, we don't do fucking retirement parties asshole. I had another uncle tell me to cut my hair and join society, I told him to join my fucking dick in holy matrimony. I had people trying to mold me my entire life. You know what? I had more fun than any of them. They may have more money in some cases, but they are boring fucking people. Fuck that noise, you are master and commander of your own life.

517 You know one thing I have not heard anyone mention recently?

Maybe three or four years ago (before the theater shooting with the one idiot who thought he was the Joker?) I remember a lot of people pointing out that the left wanted to resurrect the Assault weapons ban in response to shootings. However, up to that point, hardly any AR's or similar had been used in those types of shooting. So there was a contradiction in that the main weapon that libs wanted to ban was not the one being used.

There are a few things that strike me about this now that ARs have moved into use in this type of thing:

1) Did the left bang this drum so relentlessly that it pushed these nuts into a new form of weapon? Did they preach so vociferously on the deadliness of these weapons that they essentially 'sold' them to these nuts?

2) Notice now how the narrative never changes? The assault weapon ban was always meant to be the camel's nose under the tent wall. They just never had the stones to go whole hog (or the lunacy.)

3) The heartening thing about all this is that the window seems to have been successfully moved on this one. Even though you have the usual suspects, even the dems in congress, as crazy as they are, are not in full support of even a resurrection of the assault weapon ban. This is an encouraging thing, though probably not a good thing to get complacent.

No.

Washu is Ryoko's mother. Mihoshi is related to Washu and hence Ryoko but I forget to what degree, IIRC granddaughter or a daughter that's younger than Ryoko. Ayeka is Yosho's sister, and hence is the... well, sister of Tenchi's grandfather and she's trying to bob Tenchi's knob. Sasami is Ayeka's younger sister, but Sasami almost died and merged her physical/psycho-spiritual form with Tsunami, one of Jurai's ancient magical tree spirits and hence is arguable many thousands of years old. Of course Washu is 20,000 years old at least and Ryoko is at least 700 years old (700 years is how long she was imprisoned on earth and supposedly she knocked over almost 1000 planets so conclude for yourself how old she is)

In conclusion, Tenchi is only directly related to Ayeka and Sasami and Sasami isn't even in the running romantically for obvious reasons.

In shorter conclusion, I'm a weeb and too stuck in the past.

It was/is damn hard to find a male protagonist that wasn't a wet dishrag and where the girls weren't all teenagers. I like my women in the 25-40 range, so despite the cute, a lot of anime doesn't really 'work' for me.

So far the quality has been good. No dominant team so it's been very competitive. And it wasn't the IOC with the ban, it was the NHL. They didn't want to shut down the season for two weeks or risk some of their best players getting hurt in the middle of the year.

Posted by: tu3031 at February 17, 2018 12:57 AM (O5Q3r)

639 LizLem, doesn't matter. I don't know the NHL players anyway. The ice is bigger, the rules on interference, holding, and a few other things (too many men on the ice, interestingly) are actually enforced, and the style is different. Apples and oranges, often, because it's just different playing for your flag (esp. for many players from smaller European countries).

Didn't know there was an NHL ban. I think the Olympics is in an impossible position when it comes to team sports. Either way works for me.

Tonight's game was interesting in that it was as physical as any NHL game, even with the international ice, and rules. But still, the speed. And the 3 on 3 over-time is pure genius (comparable to the NCAA football over-time thing).

I find the NHL fairly boring because season is way too long, players are so big now that the ice is really too small (not much fluid action or play making), and dump-and-chase has gone from being one style to almost the only style. Boring.

Having known and been a friend of Connie (and still, Kim), I alas, never got to meet Mr. Den Beste. But Connie thought he'd hung the moon.

If one measures a man by who his friends are, then Stephen Den Beste was one HELL of a man.

That's... very cute, actually. Really, most of the character backstories are downright tragic if you think about it. Tenchi loses his mother at young age and his dad is a perv. Washu is a living god, has a child torn from her and is betrayed by her first husband. Ryoko is a an easily mind-controlled alcoholic that has trouble managing her emotions at all well, and essentially gets brainwashed into massacring hundreds of planets for a deranged transgendered psychopath. It's also heavily implied that her childhood was probably not... all that pleasant and Washu won't be winning any mother-of-the-year awards.
Yosho flees his home planet and fiance out of a sense of fear of commitment, stranding himself on earth and literally leaving her for HUNDREDS OF YEARS as she searches the galaxy for him saving herself for him. Her only company are Azaka, Kamadaki, and her little sister who isn't even her little sister any more since she FUCKING DIED accidentally because of Ryoko's attack and who has merged forms with the spirit of a space tree, and the spirit projection is more attractive than her and she is legitimately jealous of her little sister-ghost. She later finds out that even fucking Ryoko has a leg up on her in the romance department (mitigated only by Ryoko's charming social retardation) since she spent most of Tenchi's childhood watching over him in ghost form. Mihoshi is Washu's other daughter and former A+ detective for GXP, and gets sucked into a hell dimension and her mind scrambled to keep her from dying.Tenchi just wanted to live a normal life and gets all this baggage out of nowhere. Really, if not for the timing it'd be one of the biggest tragedies ever written. Everybody is fucked up all to hell.

699 Of the shows starting up this winter, the ones I've been liking most are:

"Itou Junji:Collection:"

An anthology of horror manga-ka Itou Junji. Some are better than others, but definitely good for the "creepy" horror fan.

"Pop Team Epic"

It's basically s**tposting, memes, and trolling as expressed in one of the purist forms of Dadaism known to the modern world. The fact that they repeat a short episode with male instead of female voices (with minor changes to one part) underscores that.

Other new anime this season:

"Death March through the Parallel World Rhapsody"

Another show based on a light novel series that it pushed out like through a meat grinder, though in this case there is something about it that I don't mind. Perhaps it is the "Gary Stu" acting reserved, or the supporting characters not being pure stand-ins...

"Citrus"

Psychologically hurt high school girl lesbianically forces herself upon her high school step-sister. Further lesbianics occur.

"Darling in the FranXX"

Wins the award for most sexual references that aren't direct and obvious references. "Pestle and Stamen" system where a male adolescent controls a female adolescent doggy style withing a giant mecha to defeat kaiju. Lots of buzz I'm hearing about this, but still...

"Slow Star"

A "healing anime" where a girl who started high school a year late is coping with it and having fun with friends. Good show to let your brain turn to mush at the end of a long work week.

"Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san"

Girl teases boy she likes who always falls for her tricks. Eh.

"Mitsuboshi Colors"

Three little girls imaging they are protecting their town. Another "healing anime" to help one ignore real life.

"Märchen Mädchen"

Something about magical girls gaining the powers of old fairy tails or something. Tries to be more than it is.

"Killing Bites"

Japanese super-conglomerates turn people into human/animal hybrids to fight for their amusement. Story centers around a girl with Honey Badger powers who so far is not only not giving a s**t, but f**king everyone else's s**t up.

"Hakumei to Mikochi"

Like "David the Gnome" but less gay.

"Takunomi"

Single women old enough to drink who talk about alcohol.

"Beatless"

Something about a Milquetoatst finding a robot chick and shenanigans are afoot.

"Nanatsu no Bitoku"

The seven Heavenly virtues descend to Earth to find the Earthly incarnation of the Messiah, while being as erotic as unintentionally possible.

700 But on this particular day in 2005, after several hours of driving on rural, two-lane highways, I pulled up to a staggering sight. Literally, as far as the eye could see, were massive wind turbines - gigantic machines that created the effect of an army of alien robots coming to take over eastern Colorado.

I exhaled and mentally fell to my knees. The sweet smell of grass, the cool breeze - and the sound! The whoosh, whoosh, whoosh of the turning turbines was disturbingly disorienting. I looked to the horizon and was surprised to find that I was dizzy. This was wind energy?

It was an emotional moment, but not for the reasons I might have imagined when I decided to sign up for wind energy. I turned my attention back to the natural gas facility I was permitting. One lonely acre that had already been subjected to numerous cultural and biological surveys and a forest's worth of paperwork requirements. Which had more overall environmental impact? I remember thinking.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police are looking for a woman who they say threw her own feces at an employee of an east side Menards Tuesday.

According to an incident report filed in the case, IMPD officers were dispatched to the Menards location at 7701 E. 42nd Street near Pendleton Pike around noon Tuesday.

They spoke with the store's loss prevention officer. He told them he spotted a woman take a video camera out of its box and place it into her open personal bag.

When the loss prevention officer attempted to stop the woman from leaving the store, she "dug into her pants and pulled out a handful of feces and threw it at him, striking him on his chest."

The loss prevention officer said the woman then ran out of the door.

Police said the stolen camera was eventually recovered, and investigators were able to recover surveillance video. The woman had not yet been identified.

758 In case you've never seen it, this is a myosin protein dragging an endorphin along a filament to the inner part of the brain's parietal cortex, which occurs during certain emotional responses.
You are literally looking at happiness.

Bullshit. What you are looking at is a physical phenomenon associated with happiness. This is not the same as the experience of happiness. Experience is irreducible to physical phenomena.

What if you were locked in a black and white room your whole life, never experiencing color, but you knew red light had such-and-such wavelength, blue another, etc. You knew biologically how light affects the eyes and brain.

Then one day you are released from the room and see color for the first time. Would you be getting new information? It seems so. Your experience is not reducible to the physical facts you knew when inside the room.

760 I had a #fakenews dream that Russian spies exposed people in Michigan to some sort of nanotechnology, like a virus. The CIA stopped them but refused to release any information about what was done. It may have been meant to relay information to the Russians, or intended to produce some change in the exposed subjects.
