Monmouth Poll: Trump Approval Rises; Approval of Tax Cut Soars; Democrat Advantage in Congressional Mid-Terms Falls to Just 2%

Sad!Donald Trump's job approval rating has bounced back from the record low registered in last month's Monmouth University Poll , as more Americans now see the president as having achieved some legislative success. The poll finds that support for the recently passed tax reform plan has increased and Republicans have made gains in the generic House ballot test. Pres. Trump's job rating now stands at 42% approve and 50% disapprove. While his net rating continues to dwell in negative territory, this is an improvement from his December low of 32% approve and 56% disapprove. The current results mark a return to the ratings he received in the late summer and early fall of 2017. Positive signs for Trump include an uptick in public opinion that he has been successful in moving his agenda through Congress and increasing support for the recently enacted tax reform plan. A majority (55%) of Americans say that Trump has been at least somewhat successful at getting Congress to pass his legislative agenda, while 41% say he has not been successful. This marks a reversal from December - before the tax reform bill was approved - when only 42% said Trump had been successful with Congress and 53% said he had not been successful. Opinion is currently divided on the landmark tax reform plan - 44% approve and 44% disapprove. But this marks a significant increase in public support from December, when just 26% approved of the bill and 47% disapproved. Perhaps more importantly, fewer Americans (36%) believe that their own federal taxes will go up under the plan than felt the same when the bill was in its final legislative stages last month (50%). Still, the number who believe that their taxes will go up (36%) outnumber those who believe that their taxes will go down (24%) or stay the same (32%) under the new system. ... In a look ahead to 2018, Democrats currently hold a negligible edge on the generic Congress ballot. If the election for House of Representatives were held today, 47% of registered voters say they would vote for or lean toward voting for the Democratic candidate in their district compared to 45% who would support the Republican. This marks a dramatic shift from last month, when Democrats held a 15 point advantage on the generic ballot (51% to 36%).Down from 15 points to 2 points.

They managed to convince a significant part of the country, who couldn't be bothered to really pay attention, that this tax bill was All for the Rich, that it lined fat cat profits, helped only Corporations, and would do nothing for them. It's what they wanted to believe, so it was easy to convince them of that.
BUT now the real story is leaking out in their paychecks. And not only do they see that the Tax Bill is actually a pretty good deal, they also realize that the Dems and the MSM have been lying to them about this all the time.
Same thing happening over "Net Neutrality". Got a lot of people up in arms, but what's gonna happen to that fervor when month after month goes by and nothing actually changes in their internet service at all?

They announced on their website that at least national polling is worthless now, that you cannot do any real polling and get any statistically useful results, with several key reasons. The entire industry has turned into crap.
News organizations use polls to create stories about what they want to write about, an opinion piece disguised as a news item by a poll. Pollsters either by design or ignorance weight their polls with faulty methods like over polling Democrats in a national election. People just don't like to talk to pollsters, so they're struggling to reach everyone but lonely cat ladies and leftist zealots. Fewer and fewer people use a land line and its harder to reach and poll cell phones. There's just a host of problems.
Which is why in the last 10 or so major worldwide elections and events they keep getting it wrong.

One of my liberal friends is a house flipper/AirBnB landlord. He was distraught that he's going to lose the write-offs for his various home-equity loans. It was lost on him when I asked why I should be subsidizing his loans. He's also the wealthiest person I know. This guy is a real piece of work. He has the type of diabetes that requires a permanent insulin pump so when Obamacare passed he was so excited that we're now paying for his insulin that his first response was "I can buy another house now!". Because they have never had to budget at all. Ever. They pay for things and there is always money there. They have never had to say 'Well, I would really like this, but I need to hold off for a couple weeks.'
$1000 over the course of the year might not be earth shattering, but it means you have to be less worried about picking up some extra food at the grocery store to make sure there is enough money in the account for rent this month, because your rent hits and then a week later your phone and electric bill hit so you do not have a huge amount of leeway. Can you wait to pay the car insurance a couple days, the penalty there is not too high.
This is a foreign country to them.

The thing is, not much. It is hard to defend against a potential attack that could come from anywhere during your lifetime (thinking of Roy Moore.) Especially if it is fabricated out of whole cloth.
Example: I worked in a video store in college. If someone came to me now and said "I have incontrovertible proof that you stole $200 from the cash register in June of 1998!" I know it is false, but how would I refute other than to say "I didn't do it!" Tax records are no help. Bank records would be hard to get to and hardly clearing. The damage as they say would be done regardless.

That's a serious problem, and it's EXACTLY why we have Statues of Limitations built into most of our criminal laws. (none for murder and other heinous crimes, of course)
Many people think of Statutes of Limitations as some kind of technicality, but they exist because after a certain amount of time goes by it has been long recognized that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a defendant to put up a competent defense.
And that's why we should always be very, very suspicious when anyone comes up with claims of malfeasance many, many years after the fact. It doesn't mean they're not true, but it does mean that they are always very, very shaky and could never be proven in a court of law.
