Putin's Master Plan to Install a Pawn In the White House Who Would Greatly Amp Up Energy Production and Thereby Decimate the Russian Oil-Based Economy Is Nearly Compete

In 2018, the US is expected to overtake both Russia and Saudi Arabia to become the world's greatest oil producer.

usoilproduction.jpg

Some NeverTrumpers immediately objected to this development, noting that as the US becomes energy-independent it gives them less pretext to start and lose wars in the Middle East.

Oh, and also Russia Something Kompromat.

18 Funny thing about this. The Russian oil boom is what lead directly to the American fracking boom.

When the Soviet Union fell Russia ask US oil companies yo help them develop better cold weather drilling techniques.

What we learned in Russia brought on the technology that became the start of the American oil boom.

35 It's a good think we're drilling the shit out of oil -- just this morning, I was talking to the person who purchases the electric power for our small town, and she says that she thinks electric rates are about to go way, way up.

Partly because natural gas is going up, because it's been very low for so long, and partly because of demand.

But mostly because the economy has been in the shitter for about 8 years or so. And so now the Obama ankle weights have been removed, so factories will once again be using shit-tons of electricity to power machinery, demand goes up, price goes up.

We need more oil, more natty gas, more coal, more nuclear. Quickly.

...Later on Friday, Cotton responded to the South Carolina Senator, telling a group of reporters on Capitol Hill that because Graham failed to win the Republican presidential primary in 2016, he is unqualified to lead the charge on immigration issues nows.

"The difference between Steve King and Lindsey Graham is that Steve King can actually win an election in Iowa," Cotton said. "Look, we had an election in 2016. Immigration was a major issue there and the American people and especially Republican primary voters made it clear that they wanted Donald Trump's vision of immigration policy, not Lindsey Graham's. He didn't make it to the starting line and he didn't even make off the kiddie table in the debates."

180 You don't burn coal in an open fireplace. If there is an insert, then CO is not an issue. Coal furnaces are not an open coal fire in the basement. Unless there is a crack in it, the CO goes out the chimney.

You don't burn coal the same as wood, though. I use some in my woodstove. It is an airtight woodstove. You can add half a scoop of small lumps and slack to a wood fire to make sure it will stay warm and re-buildable in the morning. To actually use coal as the main fuel, you need, at least, a stanchion so that the coal is held up off the firebox floor, and you run with the intake vents much wider-open.

To idle a wood fire and bake the gases out of the logs, you run up the heat and then shut it down to a fast smolder. Coal does not smolder well; you have to burn it.

When people used near-anthracite quality coal in home furnaces, smoke soot and stink were minor. In hard times, they would down-grade. Dad can remember going across the high suspension bridge and seeing a low-hanging pall of smoke across the whole city on a brisk winter morning, as every ignorant jerk tried to build up his furnace fire with cardboard and lignite after not banking them right overnight. There is a little knowledge and skill involved, which is why we were forced to abandon the system.

We were buying Russian Weapons Grade Uranium, and diluting it to 3-4% U-235 for commercial reactor fuel.

Unfortunately, we never were able to do the same with Russian Plutonium. Now we missed our window of opportunity to do so.

That would have been the best Nuclear Armaments Reduction Plan ever!!!

192 When people used near-anthracite quality coal in home furnaces, smoke soot and stink were minor. In hard times, they would down-grade

East Germany had brown coal. I think it's lignite vs. antrhacite, I don't really know things.

So I'm not really saying it's their fault, you work with what you have, but they burned brown coal and it ruined everything. There was a purple haze, and not in the fun Jimi Hendrix way, the smog was purple. And the sulphur content of the coal ate away all the metal in the machines that ran on coal.

194 Cashill's saying Steele didn't write the dossier--or at least major portions of it.

Even though I never fully bought in to Cashill's analysis that Bill Ayers wrote Dreams from My Father, he's simply doing textual analysis which he seems to be somewhat skilled at. Don't know that I buy all of it.

But it asks some interesting questions, like why pass it off as his dossier? Is it the MI6 connection, which allowed a greater possibility of FISA acceptance? Or is it the problem with some campaign finance laws?

Something is weird with that dossier. It would be kind of blackly humorous if a bunch of people broke themselves over that piece of shit.

That's all pretty fascinating stuff. But I think the issue is burning coal in a modern home with the entire home wrapped and sealed up as tight as possible. A decent sized coal fire, deprived of oxygen becomes a smoldering pile of CO emitting death. Sure, some goes up the chimney, but some doesn't.

There are ways around it, which I have done, with outside air being available close to combustion, but I'd still advise against it.

Better to have an outside/inside system where the coal is burned outside and a hydroponic system brought the heat inside.

198 ...Later on Friday, Cotton responded to the South Carolina Senator, telling a group of reporters on Capitol Hill that because Graham failed to win the Republican presidential primary in 2016, he is unqualified to lead the charge on immigration issues nows.

208 Soft coal is bituminous, but coal dealers hated people down-grading so they called it lignite out of spite. Lignite is like peat. It's for flavoring whiskey malt.

Our industrial customers wouldn't use any bituminous unless they had a grinder/mixer to blow it in with some anthracite. You get a pretty damn good fire from that. Except for actual power plants, those were a poor investment, because you no more than got rid of your coal shovellers than it was time to close the plant. Dad wasted all his spare time one year learning how to sell, install and service those Iron Fireman units for houses. Meh.

It was wrong to blame factory coal users for visible air pollution in most places, though. Anthracite boilers with blowers were not producing pollution -- that you could see (bwa ha ha...). Making steel is different, because coke is an actual chemical catalyst in the process.

209 To try to explain a coal furnace, it was in basement guess 4 feet in diameter ( being a kid size is hard to gauge in memory) the coal , wood to start went in a door similarly to a steam train. As it burned down adding shovel fulls of coal you had a arm on side you cranked back and forth that raked internally the bottom ashes which fell into a bottom compartment which got shoveled out in metal cans as often there still could be hot. There were ducts that would spread the heat around, my grandparents hose had vents in the 2nd floor to let heat upstairs. The first floor had a big grate we would get dressed over as kids in the winter.

Don't get me wrong. I thought Cashill's arguments are were good. And he made a convincing case.

I just don't have quite a lot of faith in the amount of certainty some people gain from textual analysis.

I definitely do think that there is something just strange about the whole dossier. And the analysis I'm reading at AT right now, is hitting home. There are some *terrible* constructions (still, anybody can write a bad sentence).

I've heard that theory. I don't think we know that as a fact yet, though.

If Nellie Ohr is a native English speaker, or uses words normally, Cashill's analysis kind of puts strain on the idea that it would even be her--but of course, I'd leave to Cashill to track down some of her writing. I *know* about textual analysis, but 1) I'm not skilled in it, and 2) I don't have enough confidence in it to bother.

227 @209 You got it. There was an outer jacket on that furnace, though. Cooled air would fall ("gravity furnace" because no duct blower) through fat pipes back into that jacket, not the actual combustion chamber, and then the heated air would go up one pipe to the grille the cat lays on. The gases and smoke were separated from the hot air, just as your heat exchanger does not, on a good day, pass natural gas fumes into your heat ducts.

Late in the game, there were various forms of packaged coal that avoided the bin pile and shovel, and there were automatic devices to add coal a little at a time overnight. But that fire did have to be tended, part of a dad's chores.

While America's production is going up, Venezuela's is going down, dropping 29% in just the last 12 months. The cause isn't hard to figure - the Venezuelan Govm't has been stripping every petrodollar they can out of its oil subsidiary, and they have absolutely Zero into any field or equipment maintenance.

Oil fields aren't magic valves that one turns on to watch money come out - their equipment take constant maintenance and work, just like an old car does. I've read that of the drilling and workover rigs left in the country when the major's pulled out, EVERY ONE is now broken down and waiting on parts. And Venezuela can't buy parts because they have no money left, and what money they can find has to go for food.

And now Venezuela's solution, over the last month, has been to arrest 70 Pdvsa executives (the state oil company) and to replace them with Generals who have never set foot in an oil field with their lives. I guess the plan is that if the Oil Wells stay broken down and refuse to produce, the Generals will line up a firing squad and shoot at them.

He's not totally pissed off though, since we're both old enough to have seen the pendulum swing a couple of times. 260 Steam heat is a great way to heat a house during winter. You get moist warm air. Forced heat is always dry.

Posted by: Puddin Head at January 19, 2018 05:12 PM (YV+SU)

Forced air is not just dry, but you have the 'wind chill' factor. Seventy degree air blowing across me? Sweater time. You don't want to sit outside in summer when it's seventy degrees with *any* air movement. It's not pleasant.

I like my hydroponic system with 10,000 feet of copper (slight exaggeration) on every outside wall. Sixty five degrees in winter feels like shorts and t-shirt weather. It's constantly pumpin' btu like a summa bitch. Go closer to the outside wall and it gets even hotter.

The downside? Expensive as hell. Inefficient as hell. Prone to freezing up and raising holy hell if the temp goes too low.

But the best. With an asterisk or ten.

261 When I was 19, I got a chance to stay in a cabin my grandfather owned out in the woods in Wisconsin. June nights were still cold, and he had a potbellied cast iron stove in that cabin for heat with a bucket of coal chunks next to it. I had never seen real coal before, but i figured what the heck, it burns, so I loaded that potbelly up, lit it, and went to sleep in a little side room where the bed was.

I woke up at about 2 AM to this weird glow - couldn't figure it out since no lights were on - and I looked into the main room and that entire stove was glowing a bright, bright cherry red. Scared the shit out of me, especially since at this point it was way too hot for me to even get very close to it. I moved everything flammable away (some stuff was already smoking) and got the door open with a stick, and I started slowly sprinkling little bits of water into the fire. I think it took me most of the night to stop that thing from glowing.

I should have burned myself up in that building that night - one more time my life was spared in spite of my best efforts.

262 @255 Yep. Putting a full "wabash" into a regular air-tight stove would blow it up real good. Now, the old wood furnaces, which you'd be lucky to see one of, had a lot more thermal mass to them, and would take the heat, although the grates would be different.

Steam heat is bone-dry. The steam is inside that radiator, not out in the room. Only a home designed to have servants would have had steam heat, because it takes an operating engineer to run the boiler safely. You can run a warm-water boiler with the same pipes and radiators, without as much white-knuckle precision. There were even some systems with no circulator pumps, that just worked by convection.

Burning natural gas releases a great deal of water vapor. I suppose that in the most modern systems that all goes out the cool little plastic pipe, but 50 years ago it would precipitate all over the basement. Oil had less vapor, and that was seen as an advantage, but if your oil jets weren't just right you'd get that fuel-oil residue and smell, which I think is dirtier than coal dust.

264 sigh, bad translations. Just read this cringe in a study of an Arabic translation of some old Syriac apocalyptic writing -

"In the book there was written how the angels ravished John in a vision to the sky"

I think the word they are looking for is 'raptured'.

In the Philippino version, the angels say "Hey John we Ravish you Very Much, 2 Denarii!"

266 HYDRONIC. Hydroponic is how you grow pot in a greenhouse.
It is not inefficient. It's your boiler that's probably inefficient.
Mine is over 50 years old and is still saving me hundreds every year, compared to the fuel oil forced-air we used to have. Of course, when Dad put that first furnace in, oil was 3 cents a gallon.

Again, forced-air duct systems convey a lot more moisture through the house than any piped-water system. If it's coming out too dry, you can add a humidifier, something you can't do with hydronic even if you need it.

You do not want your house air completely dry. It's bad for you, and it feels cold. After I cheated and installed an actually air-tight roof, I didn't need humidifiers any more, which was great because they are a hazard and a PITA.

I'm pretty sure there was already a smoking gun for that. It's just that it's like Hillary was a little girl jumping on her bed which she broke, the press would start running stories about the sheer number of men who were seen coming through windows and doing stuff kids get blamed for and we don't absolutely know that it was her.
