The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

All monkeys are equal, but some monkeys are more equal than others.

Woman accuses United of giving her seat to Houston's Sheila Jackson Lee

We started a revolution to change the world's paradigm that some people are better than others. But we have regressed to a 21st century version of royalty, and it disgusts me.

This is one of the many things that must change before we return to a society more in tune with the one our founders envisioned. The idea that a member of congress is in any way more important than any other citizen of these United States is anathema to everything we stand for, fought for, died for, and strive to protect.

And the cozy, disgusting, rent-seeking relationship between business and our ruling class is another thing that needs to end. Yes, that is my secret populist emerging again, but I can't think of another way to describe how I feel about it. We need to break the power of government officials, and we need to destroy the relationship between big business and government. How dare United Airlines favor a sleazy politician over a paying passenger? You know how? Graft. It's called bribery too. But whatever you call it, it has no place in our country.

Kwanzaa: A Fraud Holiday, Created With A Racist Goal, By A Criminal Madman
Arguably, this holiday raised by some to the level of Christmas has the totally opposite purpose. While Christmas is meant to unify, Kwanzaa is meant to divide. Or as the then 16 year old Rev. Al Sharpton explained the feast would perform the valuable service of "de-whitizing" Christmas.
And another thing; the idea that Africa is a country rather than an extremely large continent with a bunch of wildly divergent countries and cultures is the height of bigotry. "Oh look, you have black skin, therefore I will lump you in with all of the other people with black skin, no matter where they are from."
******

Bill de Blasio likens himself to Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Mahatma Gandhi

Yeah....any NYC Morons care to comment on De Blasio's chances of becoming president? The only reason he is mayor of NYC is that the turnout was awful, and New Yorkers are knuckleheads when it comes to politics. He is an awful mayor, probably crooked (he is in the pocket of big real estate developers), is screwing up pretty much everything in NYC, and is an unpleasant asshole to boot.

******

Dear Colin Kaepernick,
This is how it's done.

In my opinion, what actually happened was Jackson Lee was pissed about having to sit in Economy Plus and started her Rosa Parks routine. There are a lot of reasons I refuse to fly UAL, and this is just one more on the list.

The woman was flying home (to D.C.) from Guatemala. She was in Houston, so only half-way home. Why the hell would she cancel her flight at that point, especially since she had used her FF miles (something like 140,000 of them) on United to book the 1st-class tickets in the first place? What was her plan? To camp out in the Houston airport waiting for another, even later flight, or try to get a first-class seat (that she'd have to pay for) on another airline? Doesn't make any sense.

They'd make the school sit through an assembly about Kwanzaa, but covering Kindergarten through 12th grade, there were maybe, 7 black kids in the entire school (including half-white ones). And not a single one of them (including me) gave even an iota of a shit.

"As part of the normal pre-boarding process, gate agents began clearing standby and upgrade customers, including the first customer on the waitlist for an upgrade," the company said in a statement.

94 DeBlasio is an abject socialist turd with zero charisma. He is an awful administrator, could never, ever be confused with a leader of any kind, and is a morally bankrupt shill. He is a "hack" in every sense, who would have been perfectly at home in the Tammany Hall Machine, which he is, essentially, a byproduct of.

The thought that he could even entertain the notion of running for President is proof of his absolute lack of any sense of self awareness or political skill. A huge section of the population of New York City hates his guts and he only got elected because of the monolithic nature of the one party system of New York which has elevated ward boss politics to an art form ( hang that in the MOMA - hah!). Flyover country ( in this sense just about every place other than Los Angeles and maybe Chicago) would savage him without mercy . . so I hope the Democrats nominate him in 2020. I could not think of an easier candidate for even the squishiest of GOPe'rs to beat, let alone Trump, who would, essentially, whip him like the rented mule that he is.

Likening himself to Ford, Edison and . . . . Gandhi? ( As Sesame Street used to say: " One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn't the same."). This would, in any other person, be Exhibit "A" at his committal hearing but . . NY Democrat . . so totes OK. And the MSM will run with it as a lead story with some graphics and bullet points to chart out the "similarities" (Ford invented the mass produced automobile - De Blasio was once chauffered in an automobile! Edison invented the light bulb - De Blasio once turned on a light bulb. Gandhi once fasted? DeBlasio once ate fast food - see?!? The same!!!).

I say run, DeBlaz, Run!!!!!

109 It's the airline's fault. They bumped the lady for SJL because SJL pitched a fit to be upgraded to first class.

--------------------

And why did SJL pitch a fit? She darn well knew the airline would prefer to deal with the fallout from a disgruntled passenger over a vendetta from a congresscritter with far to much power and a long memory.

I'm not excusing the airline for their actions since, but their actions, deplorable though they were on the day of, were entirely rational.

Should a congresscritter have that much power? No. Should such a person even be in office? No.

But, who's fault is it that SJL is still in office?

Anyway, we're looking at two problems here: The day of, SJL did the "do you know who I am" crap and got her seat.

Since the day in question, UA is doubling down and blaming the passenger when they should just shut up.

Of course, UA doesn't dare say a thing against SJL.

And SJL has joined in with the berating of the peasant.

Anyway, it's another object lesson that I hope will wake a few more people up to how Washington, in general, thinks of the general population.

163 About DeBlasio.

We had bad luck and Anthony Weiner to blame. Also after 20 years of mostly benevolent rule and a huge tax base, we got complacent.

Wilhelm won the first time because, like the Bolsheviks, he had hard core of minority support that was enough to win the D primary: key unions like the teachers, and Brooklyn blacks, and select developers for their money.

It should have been Colleen Quinn, the early favorite and a comparative moderate, but the Weiner circus sucked the air out of the room just when Colleen needed it.

But on the other hand, Weiner was one of 20 things that cost Hillary the election.

328 You can't understand Karenga and his US Organization (aka United Slaves) apart from Don Warden aka Khalid al-Mansour and the rivalry with the Black Panthers which cumulated in the murder of two Black Panthers in Jan. 1969 at the UCLA campus.

http://tinyurl.com/y7e635hj

Karenga was instrumental in fostering the "revolution" as a cultural one which is what the left took up in mass in Community Organizing and extended by gaining control of education and the news and entertainment media. This was the idea that worked as opposed to the SDS and Black Panther model of armed revolution which didn't then though they do keep trying it out. Kwanzaa is of a piece with the cultural takeover.

Warden, with his conversion to Islam and connection to an up and coming Saudi Prince al-Aweed brought money into the Black Power movement and radical Islamic influence and training for the cadres. This partnership has been relatively masked for all these years. Hidden in plain sight because no one cared to look and report it.

While I generally read Jonah - you can tell he's grasping at straws here - saying no one is giving props to Trump for the tax cut (it was rank and file and hm staying out of the way) as well as him giving leeway to "the generals" in defeating ISIS.

Jonah - I think that's what people call leadership.

387 I think that the difference is with cases where a passenger is already seated and gets bumped for whatever reason and refuses to leave the aircraft. Cops are called on board and passenger fights them while being hauled down the aisle. You're conflating two cases. That had to do with an airline overbooking because there are usually a lot of cancellations, but if cancellations do not materialize, having to get a few random people to reschedule. That's not based on race or political position.

He initially agrees and gets off the plane. Then he calls his lawyer, then changes his mind and sneaks back on without informing anybody. When they see he's snuck back on after having previously agreed to leave, THEN he makes a scene and has to be dragged off.

How does a civilian passenger "sneak back onto a plane"?

If the scenario you laid out is true, its the first I've heard of it and changes things. Not once have I ever heard that series of events.

All the stories when it first broke and the actual video showed a buy being pummeled and pulled out of his paid for airline seat, with the company stating it was so their employee could take his seat. With something silly like a $500 voucher being offered, which is a pittance to have to spend the night somewhere and take a flight out the next day.

Yep, I mentioned that upthread. Picasso wouldn't even recognize the shape of a lot of those districts.

It's too bad that some enterprising group can't challenge gerrymandering on the basis that established counties and parishes are sufficient for all local elections, so why not for national elections too?

443 It was the entire sequence of events that lost him sympathy.

Actually, the sequence of events cost the airlines and credibility.

The first event was them boarding the flight, and putting these people and their baggage aboard.

Second was the oopsie bit where they try to get people to leave an aircraft they were told that they could board.

Note that their luggage would still be there, which is supposedly a security no-no.

After that, I don't much care what crap stunts that doctor got up to; it was like setting the stage for a slip-and-fall guy.

Posted by: Blue Hen at December 27, 2017 01:37 PM (326rv)

444 I think that the difference is with cases where a passenger is already seated and gets bumped for whatever reason and refuses to leave the aircraft. Cops are called on board and passenger fights them while being hauled down the aisle. In that case, the person should have left before cops are called and then deal with the airline and make sure they include the media and possibly a lawyer.
Posted by: Cheri at December 27, 2017 01:21 PM (oiNtH)

I've ranted enough about this in the past but since I like the sound of my own typing, I shall do so again.

A. Adhesion contracts are not contracts. I don't care what legal scholars claim. I don't care that courts insist on the fiction that they are. They are not contracts and calling them such is an affront to linguistics. When one party retains all rights, particularly the unilateral right of determination as to when the other party's rights vest, it is, at best, a license. But it's not a contract.

II. If we are going to play that the purchase of an airline ticket creates a contract, then at a certain point the passenger's rights must vest. The airlines want that moment to be when the plane is actually in the air, and, frankly, not even then. Do something that the crew doesn't like while in midair and the plane will land somewhere else and they will throw you off.

It is my firm opinion that once my boarding pass has been scanned and I've walked down the jet way and I've stowed my carry on and I've sat in my seat, then my right to that seat has vested. I'm being very generous there because if we are going by contract law, then my rights vested the moment I paid. But I'll make a tiny bow to the reality of travel. It is absolutely reasonable that when a person is physically on a plane and in a seat for which that person has paid, then that person believes s/he has now a vested right to that seat that the airline cannot unilaterally alter. I want that enacted into legislation.

Once I am on the plane and in the seat, then the airlines calling the police on me to throw me off is an assault on me, a breach of contract and, depending on jurisdiction, abuse of process. No, I should not have to get off the plane because the airline decided to play God and called the cops. Obligatory disclaimer for if the passenger is doing something which would be disruptive and warrants a safety hazard. But the airline wants the seats and won't pay to get people to jump off so the airline just picks and throws people off? Yeah, no.

Trois. When the airline creates a situation where passengers must be bumped due to overselling a flight or due to weather issues requiring people to move to other flights or whatever other sob story the airline creates, then that is entirely on the airline, not on the passengers. I don't want to hear that an airline cannot get enough passengers to jump off. Of course an airline can. Offer enough and people will jump off. If you want the seat back, buy it back.

That those are somehow controversial statements makes me throw up my hands in despair.

Exactamundo. People hear poverty and pics of 3rd world countries pop up. In the US it means you make under a certain amount of income & qualify for benefits. Then there are all the safety nets. People come here to live on the dole, not to live in poverty.
