AT&T Will Pay Employees a Special $1000 Extra Bonus for Christmas in Observance of the Tax Cut Passing
Plus: Video of Trump's Remarks at Official Announcement Event

They'll also boost capital spending (investment in long-term infrastructure and assets) by one billion.

This is contingent on Trump signing the bill before Christmas, which, of course, he will -- he tweeted out that he promised America a "big, beautiful tax cut" and he'll be delivering on that:

At virtually the exact same time AT&T was making this announcement, Charles Schumer was claiming the tax reform bill does not benefit workers, but only rich executives at companies like AT&T:

UPDATE: WELLS FARGO ANNOUNCES PAY HIKES!:

Below, Trump's remarks at an event marking the passage of the bill.

I am actually dreading taxes next spring, and all because of President Trump. I'll be doing my fair share of cussing come April, but won't really mean it.

55 In a way, it's hard to fathom the absolute unity of the Dems in rejecting this bill. Many of their voters will gain from it.

My guess is the two main parts that stuck in their craws is

#1 with a bullet -- The repeal of the 404Care mandate. This spikes the last of TFG's legacy, as signups will now plummet and the death spiral of that POS law will happen faster.

#2 is ANWR. The watermelon* vote is a big key to the Dems' electoral successes.

Income under $40,000 is not taxed at the federal level. Overall, those who make between $40,000 and $50,000 would pay $11.9 billion in 2019 under the current tax scheme. Under the new tax bill, they will pay $6.7 billion less a tax cut of 56.3 percent. Those who make between $50,000 and $75,000 currently would pay $90.3 million, but they will pay $23 billion less, a 25.5 percent cut.

A buncha bogus polls. Know how I can tell they are bogus? Well aside from "they're polls," the infamously false and unreliable Monmouth pollsters are on th elow end of this estimated advantage.

Its hilarious, its like people sitting around telling each other what they want to hear, in defiance of what they know to be true.

I honestly think our side is whistling past the graveyard looking at those numbers and just bringing up the Trump example to dismiss all polling. People here were seeing Roy Moore losing in polls and confidently predicting 10-15 point wins for Moore regardless.

We saw this sort of thing favoring Republicans in 2010 and 2014 and it ended up being blowouts.

I think polls are just one point of data, but if that's what its looking like October of next year, its a bad omen.

Getting this tax cut through will at least show we can govern and deliver on some promises. Hopefully a few extra dollar in people's paychecks will help as well.

This is likely bad polling. But it's also irrelevant as 2018 is not some big national race. Like Hillary, the Ds can pile up votes in Deep Blue places to no effect.

House seats are very local and it's likely that there won't be a big swing. Current developments may favor the Rs by November. The Rs have a structural advantage in the Senate races and should pick up at least 4 seats, and even more

By the time the mid-terms roll around, I think that the unwashed will be happy enough about getting to keep more of their own hard-earned money in their own pockets that things could shift. Just my opinion but I will remind you that the day Trump stepped off that escalator I KNEW he would be President. Will check back. :-)

I have to disagree with you on this one. I think Trump was the driving maniacal force behind this whole thing. Sure, congressmen like Ryan have been tinkering around on this stuff for a while. But it never got anywhere. I know, I know. Obama. Still. I absolutely believe that if it had not been for Trump and his scalp-weasel whip, this stuff would still be in mothballs and dreamland.

It takes Leadership. Trump is a leader and expects results. No more of this hanging around business , we tried, we tried.

311 Folks as much as I'm sure President Trump tried to get this passed, he also tried to get the laws overturning the ACA passed as well as several other bills. Congress said "up yours" and didn't get it done.

The most the president can do is cheerlead and try to lean on people as head of the party, but he can't really get congress to do anything they don't already want to do. The only input a president ultimately has on legislation is signing it or not. You gotta give congress the credit on this, its their branch.

They'd have probably done it (or tried it) earlier, but there's been so much childish, pointless squabbling trying to block the president or seem to be opposed to him that almost nothing has gotten done this year.

Well, I am cheap, so there's that. I am surprised that none of the "usual vendors" offer a kit to exorcise the Lucas demons from Brit sports cars. New wire harness, new lamp sockets, new switches, new alternator, new starter. I would think a proven, standardized way to de-Lucas-ize Brit cars would be a steady seller, for a while. My method works, for me. But it might be off-putting for the car's next owner.

Yes, and yes. It's in a sort of arcane code, buried within the recipes, think Da Vinci Code.

Some would say 'argot', but that's just sour grapes...and there are no sour grapes called for in the recipes. Raisins, perhaps, but no sour grapes.

I don't know, my TR6 is pretty much not a TR6 at this point. Just about everything has been modified from the brakes to the suspension to the wheels and tires to the engine to the exhaust. About the only thing that hasn't been changed, save for the body, is the electrical system.

I asked my mechanic about it and he said he had never really found a kit that did it all. He changed some of the stuff but the rest he just left alone and I've really never had an issue with it save for a couple simple wire breaks.

Honestly, there is no justification for the things I've done to it other than I like it and it will take a unique person to buy it when I decide to move on some day but for now it is the perfect little summer time car for where I live.

The plant is best known for the edible flower buds (capers), often used as a seasoning, and the fruit (caper berries), both of which are usually consumed pickled.

425 416 405 We need unobtrusive, low taxation. A consumption tax is not the way to go IMHO. (The Laffer Curve will apply there, too.)

I like my taxation to be obtrusive and obnoxious as possible. Painful, even. Very noticeable and memorable, come election time.

I agree. And I would add tax day should be moved from April to October.

Periodically I'll run across a European complaining when he came to the US he couldn't figure out what things cost because the taxes aren't added into the price, whereas in Europe what you see is what you pay. "Yes," I respond "that's why you have a 20% VAT and we don't."
Posted by: Ace's liver at December 20, 2017 05:44 PM (+azJs)

If I were king for a day, income taxes would be 15% for everyone, no deductions, no nothin'. And it would be paid the Monday before Election Day. (Oh, sure, you COULD make arrangements with your employer to save the money you would owe in tax through an allotment or something along those lines for your convenience, but you STILL have to send that money to DC via personal check to the Treasury and an IRS of maybe 100 people.)

The tax drops to 10% once the debt is paid off.

Such is my 0.02.

426 Ok, who's the banana bread f*cker???

Posted by: lin-duh at December 20, 2017 05:50 PM (kufk0)

427 lin-duh, I suspect reports of a survivor vis-a-vis banana bread were premature. Sigh.

428 Yeah I don't think McCain is coming back to D.C.

He's getting ready to do the Sedona Slow Dive.

429 I don't remember who just remember it was banana bread.

It is an absolutely fantastic banana bread recipe, and everyone should by five copies just for that recipe!

430 423 I'm slowly throwing away the left over spices the ex-girl friend left when she went back to her husband fifteen years ago.

15 years? I think you need a spice girl intervention.

Yeah, well our "survivor" apparently hasn't survived after all, so don't start throwing confetti just yet, Dildo.

Like cauliflower!

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at December 20, 2017 05:57 PM (wYseH)

433 You know, Dildo, you weren't the only one who submitted a banana bread recipe. Mrs. MisHum did too.

I think we need to have a bake-off.

Posted by: bluebell ~ now we're cookin'! at December 20, 2017 05:58 PM (kNasr)

434 And yes, capers could only improve cauliflower, because there's nowhere to go but up when you start with Satan's warts.

435 I've heard of capered carrots
Any capered chili recipes out there?

436 Capers are important. There is only One True Way to eat bagels, and that's with lox, cream cheese, red onion, and capers.

Only. If you said tomatoes, to window 12 and collect your beating.

437 406 Capers are tiny little pickles.

Little-known fact: Leonard Part 7 was to be titled The Gherkin Caper.

Friend bought an MG when we were in high school, and we had it in the power shop.

Caught fire just sitting there one day. We happened to be in class.

Unplugged the battery, fire goes out. Source of fire? Dunno.

Eventually just had to give up and plug the battery back in. Never caught fire again.

Had a Spitfire in the late 70's. Loved it!

One day, smelled burning insulation while out driving about. Pulled over and disconnected the battery. Turned out a wiring harness was pinched between the driver's seat and the floor.
