Jim Acosta or the Weekly Standard? It turns out, both -- Jim Acosta repeated the same "Trump said the FBI's actions were disgraceful while en route to a speech to police officers" talking point.

Mollie Hemingway offers the 8 worst defenses to the "insurance policy" text -- including number 8, just pretend it doesn't exist, the strategy favored by the New York Times -- and the Weekly Standard, I'd also note.

An MSNBC clown embarrasses himself by trying to pretend he understands what the hell Net Neutrality is.

Credibly accused rapist Bill Clinton gives a speech at Andrew Cuomo's birthday -- um, party? fundraiser? -- because War on Women or whatever.

Peter Jackson says took Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino out of the running for Lord of the Rings roles because the Weinstein brothers told him they were "nightmares" to work with. He says he now realizes this was all just the Miramax propaganda operation against the women.

BTW, I have little doubt that Ashely Judd is a nightmare. But Mira Sorvino? Seems okay to me.

You know, Mira Sorvino was a bona-fide It girl in Hollywood for about one year before she almost completely disappeared. I wonder if Weinstein actually derailed her career.

Al Franken says he's resigning soon, but won't commit to a date. I think people understand what it means when someone says it'll happen "soon" but can't commit to a date.

The guy who investigates allegations of Congressmen's sexual assaults? Is himself being sued for the sexual assault of two women. Because, of course he is.

From the Just Can't Even With This Anymore Department, hundreds of EPA employees are quitting because of Trump.

And yet the earth endures.

The "real media" believes two things: 1, that Taylor Swift must be pressured to denounce Trump or stand accused of being a witch and harlot, and 2, that it's totally normal to say one is enjoying one's life while Trump is in the White House.

A Texas aide to the attorney general lost his job because he shared this piece, by Federalist writer DC McAllister, speaking frankly about sexuality and beauty.

Ever notice it's only conservative women who speak honestly and sensibly about sex, while their liberal feminist counterparts create this scoldy puritan utopia where women all hate sex and wither beneath the Male Gaze?

Breaking with the law, the Obama administration let Hillary hide messages she decided were "personal" from FOIA requests and let her shield-maiden Huma cart off boxes of information related to "Muslim Engagement."

All kept away from public disclosure.

Finally, a short story called "Cat Person" published in the New Yorker is causing all sorts of angry debate. Apparently it's about an empty hook-up between two people, the woman going along with it just because it would be too embarrassing for both parties to stop it when she sees the guy is kinda schlubby underneath his clothes, and the guy... ah, I don't know. I haven't read it.

But people are arguing about it.

I'm going to read it myself, and maybe you'll read it if you like, but bear in mind it seems to be causing conflict so if you don't want more conflict maybe don't read it.

Have a nice weekend! And the GAINZZZ thread two posts down is still live -- don't listen to what anyone else says.

Oh, one more thing: Supposedly -- this sounds made-up to me, but whatever, supposedly -- someone's making a movie called Do They Know It's Murder?

The premise is this: at the recording of Band Aid's charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?, a fellow Brit rocker (or hanger-on) is murdered.

To make sure the single is finished without incident, Bob Geldof must suddenly put his detective skills to use -- you know, I guess maybe he actually solved the case of the girl who shot up the school in I Hate Mondays or some bullshit -- and find the killer before they lose the studio space.

Seriously, it's being claimed this will be a movie coming out.

If that's real, I'll totally see it.

If that's a punking -- well played.

And speaking of Christmas...

As sundance noticed at Last Refuge, Strozk's boss Bill Priestap has been the Hound That Didn't Bark. Hmmm...

You know, I used to think the Mueller Syndicate was all about putting Trump in jail.

I now think it was all about keeping themselves out.

Trey Gowdy and Jim Jordan really laid into Rod Rosenstein the other day. The trouble is, he's in it up to his eyeballs himself.

Discussing Mueller's crimes with Rosenstein is like talking over Lucky Luciano's immigration problems with Bugsy Siegel.

43 SpaceX had some GAINZZZ today. They launched another cargo resupply mission to the ISS, and it went flawlessly.

They've relaunched used first stages and used Dragon capsules before, but this was the first time they've launched both a used first stage and a used Dragon capsule on the same flight.

It was the first launch from SLC-40 at the Cape since that little oopsie in Sept. 2016.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BgJEXQkjNQ

The pad infrastructure has been rebuilt and improved since then. It has also been hardened so that a similar accident today would only take about three months to repair instead of over a year.

There were some gorgeous visuals in today's flight. It was a perfectly clear sky, so ground cameras could follow the first stage continuously from launch to landing.

Here is NASA TV from first stage shutdown to landing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm64mQTBSkI

And here is the SpaceX webcast. Starting at about 21:12, the descending Stage 1 rocketcam shows the contrail that it made minutes earlier during ascent. That blew my mind.

That reminds me -

Our state AG here in California is about to file 20 (I think) lawsuits against the Federal government for things ranging from dirty air to DACA. I could *maybe* buy that the first item is legit. 158 Willowed:
691 I'm late to the conversation, but I'd like to chime in on the topic.

I'm a Navy veteran and have been a police officer in San Antonio for 25 years. What I have to say only pertains to SAPD since I don't have knowledge of other agencies.

Over the years I have had several friends killed in the line of duty. I have also seen bad officers get fired and some of the really bad ones have even done prison time. The bad ones are few.

I personally have never smoked marijuana nor have I taken any illegal drugs. We get drug tested often and every once in a while somebody pops positive and they are fired.

We don't cover for bad officers and we don't police ourselves. We have a civilian review board made up of SJW to keep an eye on us.

The body cameras and cameras in our patrol vehicles are our friends. It might surprise some of y'all, but the general public often lie to the police and specifically Internal Affairs. Since we got the cameras more officers have been exonerated than have been implicated.

We have annual training and part of our training is deescalation. None of us want to shoot anybody. The vast majority of us take pride in doing our job professionally and the citizens of San Antonio appear to appreciate the job we do.

The officers in the video that started this conversation were clearly wrong, but I don't understand people painting all police officers with the same brush.

Back to lurking.

176 156 Believe it or not I heard the Pogues and "fairytale from New York " yesterday. Apparently it is a very popular Christmas time song in Ireland and the U.K.
Posted by: Museisluse

About a decade ago, the BBC, in its infinite wisdom, was going to edit out "cheap lousy faggot" from that song because OFFENDED!!! The British public, God bless them, told the BBC to stop being gay and leave the song alone but did it with more swearing. The BBC backed off on editing it. I love The Pogues and play that song repeatedly this time of year. Its fantastic!

178 Also, a couple of days ago, Blue Origin flew a new rocket and capsule on a suborbital flight. They are planning to eventually carry paying passengers.

Here is a video taken from inside the capsule showing what you would see through the windows if you were aboard. The capsule also contained a crash test dummy nicknamed "Mannequin Skywalker".

181 Just ran the numbers at taxplancalculator.com. The conference bill would save me about $4000 a year. We're not the super rich either. I'm an IT engineer and my wife's a teacher. We will have two kids when this takes effect. We're pretty average middle to "lower upper middle" class folks.

There's a good chance this juices the economy over 5% annualized growth. That will tighten the labor market and probably put another $10-15k in my pocket annually in the next 3 years.

If that happens, Trump can tweet all the stupid shit he wants and he still gets re-elected in 2020.

225 I tried to post this the other day but had issues. The LA Speed check sounds suspicious. The civilian pilot would have been on a VHF frequency, the fighter pilot would have been on UHF, and they couldn't have heard each other talking to the controller. Their ground speed checks, overheard by the Blackbird WSO, would have been coincidental. The WSO wasn't teaching the fighter pilot a lesson for being a jerk, he was the jerk.
