The snow plow has been running all day.

This means I have to get the snow thrower working, somehow.

Our area got about 1.5 inches of snow. Very rare for us to see snow; about every 10 years on average. It's mostly gone now.

But the funny thing was NO ONE was on the roads and schools were closed ... everyone was freaked out by the ice ... same happened when we got a snow once. For me ... no big deal.

118 San Antonio and parts south got almost two inches of snow the night before last. I think it's been more than a dozen years since the last snow that stuck. It melted pretty soon after sun up, and the schools stayed open I think.

I took the dogs out during the night while the snow was falling. While the male dog Tex was urinating, he suddenly noticed the white stuff and started running around in mid-pee. I didn't want him to splash himself, so I was trying to yell at him quietly so as not to bug the neighbors.

It's probably close to that. When my dad taught me to drive, he took me to an empty parking lot after it snowed to practice.

The key is to have a light, delicate touch on the steering wheel, gas pedal, and brakes. It's like walking on eggs. And take it easy. There's no need to set speed records when it snows. Slow and steady will get you there.

228 What has happened is we are not as tough as our forefathers. Minus 40 or even 50 wind chills occur in my neck of the woods from time to time. A few inches of snow NBD. Even 10+ inches in a short time NBD. If you have prepared you will not die. ;-)

105 degrees plus 118 heat index happens here from time to time, and it might last for a week. So you stay in the shade, drink a lot of water; though I will admit getting a good nights sleep when the cool of the night is 90, but I don't whine. Living in the middle of the continent means there will be extremes some years and then moderate weather other years.

Americans for the most part soft. Try stacking bales in the hay loft when its 90 and the humidity is 80%. Then you will know what uncomfortable means.

231 I hate the snow, but I like living in a place where people know how to deal with it - the roads, even the side roads, get plowed quickly, everyone shovels their walks and they use salt.

2 or 3 inches in DC was worse than 8 inches of snow here because it's like they had one snowplow in the entire city and only the main drags were adequately plowed, people didn't shovel or shoveled in a half assed way (paths only shovel-wide,no ice scrapped away, just sand thrown down) and there were mountains of snow at the corners you had to climb over to cross the street. So both driving and walking anywhere was an ordeal. and of course nobody there knows how to drive in snow.

The joke in the 80's always was that the Soviets would attack during a DC snowstorm when nobody would be at their desks.

Big hay bales now, and air conditioned cabs ... still plenty of real work to do. But when the elites buy all the farms they can import the slave labor to do that. ... I wanna prevent that ... keep the family farm Americana style.

Dear Bob Geldorf,

You stupid git, I've had to hear
your insipid song for decades now. First, December is high summer for
most of Africa because southern hemisphere. Ergo no snow. Second,
Africa is more Muslim and/or Pagan than Christian so the whole Bethlehem
story is foreign. No St. Nicholas, no sleighrides, no Christmas trees,
no Three Wise Men, no Away In A Manger, none of the northern European
stories, traditions, and culture. It's like Africa is a different
continent or something you silly sod.

It's sweet.

Sure, it's not going to push 24" of snow. But my area has been getting these garbage snowfalls which are a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that don't accumulate more than a couple inches but weigh a ton. This rig should handle them with ease.

380 Neither of us is drinking this season (one newly diagnosed diabetic, one empathetic wife) but we're headed downtown for our favorite club's holiday hangout. Roads are clear, sidewalks have one inch of ice-crusted snow.

Near major hotels, so expecting visiting soldiers and sailors and Gyrenes in addition to the regulars. The featured seasonal brew is Troeg's Mad Elf, so it's Mad Elf on the Shelf night.

The Christmas Market at City Hall and Love Park looks pretty and the mix of booths is new and improved. I love to browse, but rarely spend a penny.

383 216 I don't remember who posted about Stefan Molyneux's You Tube video about Charles Manson. Seriously, you should listen to it. He makes the case that the abuse that Manson had as a child lead to the evil life he led as an adult. He doesn't excuse it, but really, Manson's childhood sounds like something out of Dickens. I don't have time for long videos, but I have been trying to get to the end of this one. And it seems that Stefan had a troubled past too, but was able to turn his life around, as they say.

423 I lived in Rochester, NY (I called it "Roach-ester) for five years in the early aughts, and the last year I was there is snowed 140 inches, most of any US city that year. I had a big self-propelled snow blower with heated hand grips, and used it every day for about two months. Then we had the ice storm and were without power for five days and with broken trees all around the house and sticking in the roof. It was like the Shock and Awe phase of the attack on Baghdad. Moved to NM and UT after that and hope never to have to deal with snow again in my life.

447 Living in California, we are told that everything that happens nowadays is due to manmade climate change. Rain, snow, drought, illegals, whatever... if it happens today it is due to the weather which is (according to Moonbeam) is changing rapidly and is our fault. And now fires. Fires are now caused by climate change. No matter that as a kid in LA I used to watch the annual fires in the hills every year from afar, like the Bel Air fire of 1961. We are supposed to forget that California is, and always has been, a tinder box waiting to catch. Kind of the downside of having perfect weather.
