More #FakeNews from the World Leader in #FakeNews: CNN Claims, Falsely, that Donald Trump Jr. Got an Email Pointing Out Wikileaks Material Hours

So:

CNN claimed that someone named Michael J. Erickson had sent Donald Trump, Jr. an email with a link to Wikileaks material on September 4th.

CNN thought this proved their RUSSIA conspiracy (hat tip to PJMedia's Morning Brief for the Always Capitalize RUSSIA rule) because Wikileaks published those materials publicly on September 13th. Ergo, their report suggested that someone had special non-public access to these materials and tried to get them to Trump.

I guess this would be someone from Wikileaks or someone from RUSSIA.

However, this email was not sent September 4th. The key incriminating data here was the date of the email -- if the email came 9 days before public disclosure of the trove of documents, on September 13th, then that's suspicious.

What did CNN do to verify this key date? Um, not too much, apparently. Because the date of the email was September 14th, after Wikileaks had publicly announced the documents for download on Twitter and made them available to the world.

In other words, Donald Trump Jr. got this email about the documents about 12 hours after everyone else in the world got word of them. He got them relatively late, obviously --people who care about these things had already been emailing the link for 12 hours.

The Daily Caller says this story got major play on CNN television today, despite being completely wrong, and being yet another grossly negligent (or intentional) #FakeNews frame-job about the Trumps.

The Daily Caller says, dryly:

How CNN got its report so wrong is unclear.

It does offer this, though:

The article states that its information was based on a read-out of the Trump Jr. email provided by an unnamed source. Trump Jr.'s lawyer, Alan Futerfas, speculated on Friday that the source was on the Democratic side of the House Intelligence Committee, which interviewed Trump Jr. earlier this week.

But someone on twitter pointed out that the Washington Post, which actually was first to report CNN's enormous #FakeNews boner, had access to the same read-out (a summary of what was said at a meeting or interview) and they got the date right.

Why can't CNN?

Why can't CNN get the most basic things right?

Hours after individuals wrote to CNN pointing out this error, and even after the Washington Post points out the error, CNN is still blathering about a "September 4 email:"

The September 4 email was sent during the final stretch of the 2016 presidential race -- on the same day that Trump Jr. first tweeted about WikiLeaks and Clinton.

...

Congressional investigators are trying to ascertain whether the individual who sent the September email is legitimate and whether it shows additional efforts by WikiLeaks to connect with Trump's son and others on the Trump campaign. The email also indicated that the Trump campaign could access records from former Secretary of State Colin Powell, whose hacked emails were made public by a RUSSIAN front group 10 days later.

That last part is a reference to Colin Powell's emails, released by an alleged RUSSIAN front group, also on September 13th.

Note that Trump's lawyers told CNN that the Wikileaks documents had already been released publicly before this email:

"We understand that the media reported 12 hours prior to this email that the DNC emails had been hacked or leaked," Futerfas said. "We do not know who Mike Erickson is. We have no idea who he is. We never responded to the email."

...but apparently #FakeNews CNN only listens to their anonymous Democrat-leak sources.

See the CNN link above to see their breathless TV reportage of this #VeryFakeNews.

Yet they haven't mentioned the story, to repeat it or retract it, since the Washington Post exposed them as #FakeNews:

And see this video, too:

Update: They finally corrected -- almost five hours after the first report of #FakeNews.

Their correction does not seem to alert the reader that, with the correction, there is literally nothing left to this story. A rando sent Donald Trump, Jr. a link that millions of people were sending -- that's it.

I got excited, let my hope that its true cloud my judgment, and my desire for people to think well of me and my perspicuity take me too far.

But a news organization has to do this professionally, its their JOB to properly present accurate information, and allegedly they have "fact checkers" in "multiple layers" who will prevent confirmation bias from overtaking their judgment. That's why you have editors.

This Brian Rossing of news is getting out of control. They're so desperate to punish Trump and ruin him they're destroying their own industry.

They're counting on people remembering the false story and never seeing the correction.

So, the entire basis of the story was wrong... but yet it is still available. CNN should immediately delete the story and in its stead write an APOLOGY to Trump Jr and to its viewers. But of course, not. Apples are apples.

271 And then they publicly wonder why everyone despises them for the lying whores that they are and why no one (outside of the liberal bubbles in LA, NY and Chicago) pays attention when they run with manufactured lie campaigns like the anti-Moore stuff.

Speaking of which I love the "Oh that part of the yearbook inscription? Date place and time? Oh yeah I 'added that later.' You know . . . as a note." And then I love no MSM reporter asking any questions like "why didn't you say that in the first place? Why did you present it as completely Moore's inscription. Why didn't you clarify this in the several weeks since the Moore campaign was demanding this be submitted to independent experts? Will you submit it now? How do you explain the DA notation since Moore was;'t actually the DA at that time?"

Instead the MSM reporter asks: "So the rest of the inscription is Moore's then, Yes?"

Da fuh?

Who adds a "note" to someone's inscription in a yearbook? What a crok of horse manure.

I felt trapped, I had ordered my entree and I didn't have the presence of mind to toss a couple twenties on the table and walk out.

I have no idea how to handle this situation or deal with someone who apparently needs me to vent her rage on about politics.

BTW, I mentioned Bill Clinton and how now democrats said he should have resigned but didn't then and she said "that was then this is now."

336 I got Willowed right before 300 comments:

Apologies to Jack Straw if he has made these observations already (he's seems to be on top of things)

299 I'm guessing the REAL hero in all of this is Admiral Michael Rogers, head of NSA.

He had a one on one early on with Trump. He made sure the keys to the country were handed over to the constitutionally chosen leader. Trump got the minimum of info about what the swamp was up to and how they did it (FISA Warrants, GPS Fusion Documents).

The Resistance, (Obama, CLinton, Jarrett, Holder, Rice, Powers, Clapper, Brennan, Mueller, Comey, McCabe, Yates, Weissmann, Strzok, McMaster, McCain, GPS Fusion, etc.) were abusing national security well before Trump was elected.

They were all dirty, and this was their only play. All or nothing, Trump had to go.

And of course Mueller had to stack his investigation with Resistance collaborators. Anybody with a smidgen of independence would be a risk on blowing a whistle on the whole shebang.

Rogers showed the deck that was stacked against Trump to Trump. And Trump shuffle up his own deck. He has kept his actions, though controversial, scrupulous.

He hasn't fallen for their traps that would make impeachment more likely and he has made the legal side of things snap down on the other side.

He also didn't go out after Clinton or others before the Hog Trap was set up. They will all hang together in their conspiracies.

When Nunes went to Trump with the dirt he found, Trump told him "hmmmmmmm, interesting. Thanks. Make sure that you do everything as clean as possible"

That showed Nunes that Trump was already on top of things, and that's why Nunes submitted to the bogus ethics investigation without resisting much.

Nunes is back in the game, so now Trump has a new front opened back up against The Resistance. Nunes, like Patton before D-Day, has been cooling heels thinking about how to move forward when given a chance.

Another front will be the IG report. It will be a bombshell.

The other front is the congressional oversight committees. You might say that they are toothless, but The Resistance will be more apprehensive about the hearings than they were when Lynch and Holder refused to uphold the law.

The Mueller investigation is a quagmire for the Resistance. Their only exit strategy was to find dirt on Trump to impeach in order to protect themselves. Not happening.

They were hogs going after corn and didn't notice the fence being put up around them.

337 291: "Suggestions are welcome." What I've begun doing, especially with well-intentioned people, is to simply focus on the will of the electorate. Barack Obama was an unqualified freshman senator with no accomplishments, but he represented the will of the American people, so he was our president for 8 years. Donald Trump represents the will of the American people, and we need to understand what that means. As for Roy Moore, his opponent is completely out of touch with the will of the Alabama electorate. Because of the timing of this information release, there is not enough time for him to defend himself, nor is there enough time to replace him. Don't get dragged into trying to defend your position with anyone who is not willing to take the time necessary (typically hours of conversation spread out over a few weeks) to understand where you're coming from.

Saw my doctor yesterday and he asked what I thought of Roy. I told him that Roy was looking for a young wife once he was professionally settled. That marrying a woman 10-12 years younger than the man was the old ways that still persists today. At this point the doctor cut in to agree saying his mother married at 13. Both I and the Doc are from the south.

I remember 18 year old Marines marrying their 13 year old sweethearts. BTW, my Doc is black and from Oklahoma.

Roy Moore was old school at the time. Simple as that. He finally realized that teenagers are a pain in the ass and married a fully furred over woman. Think they've been married for 35 years.

Manhattan hates what it doesn't know or understand. Been that way since the 1930s.

This was a classified briefing and some Democrat decided it was ok to leak classified information to the media for political advantage.

Why in the world would anyone blame the DOJ and the FBI for not trusting Congress with classified information in the middle of an investigation when they know this is exactly what will happen?

409 The Left is desperately spinning about how the yearbook accuser simply added the date and info to "Roy's" signing of her yearbook. It just happened that she tried to match his signature in the process.

Since she added the 'DA' after Moore's name, she had to have added these 'notes' well after the fact, after he became a judge. So the date and location are not contemporaneous-- how did she remember an exact date at that point??

And, since she added the 'DA,' she had to have an example of JUDGE Roy Moore's signature in front of her-- that's not a detail you would come up with if you're adding your own 'notes.'

WHY have a copy of his signature in front of you? Obviously, because you're copying the signature (not any of your own recollections). She included the 'DA' because it was in the example she had, and probably assumed it meant 'District Attorney.'

She's already admitted to altering the inscription to conveniently set time and place o substantiate her story. Even if it IS Moore's signature, though, she's ruined its evidentiary value.

If her shyster lawyer would turn it over for analysis, we could show what a truthful and honest woman she is.

Yeah its just a subject that should never come up, particularly with a subordinate. I get the feeling of desperation and hoping to find the right kind of woman but still. Just, no.

Roy Moore is exactly the kind of person that I just hate, at a visceral level.

I find him kind of annoying, one of those guys who postures at being holy in a rather more conspicuous way than is truly holy (it should be something others comment on, not something you declare). I suspect his judgment is not always the best, particularly on socially conservative issues -- not that he's wrong about abortion for example, but that he'd be judgmental and condemning of women getting abortions.

So I'm not a big fan, I agree. But this whole thing looks more and more like the put up job we all figured it was when it was first leaked.

Yeah that's the secret of publishing most people don't know. You get a lot more money from ebooks than you do print, because print is so expensive to produce. That's also why I yell a hearty F YOU to publishers who put ebooks out for $15. Are you kidding me? It costs like 99 cents to put an ebook out. I said if it was really Trumps's fault, we should be thanking him, because these people seem to be pretty damn awful to women. He was at a loss for words. I said, "you're really just sad it is happening to Hollywood, rather than trump, right? Which means you don't really care that much about these allegations."

When they say "Trump is going to jail" ask them for what? "collusion with Russia." How? "duuuurrr...duh...uh..." Ask simple, direct questions, and watch them auger into the ground.

Trust me - they are shockingly stupid and don't even know it. As it slowly dawns on them how stupid they are, and sound, they will lash out in anger. Just don't give them a target - how can they be mad at you when you were just asking them questions? 464 In my mind, congressman is one of those jobs for which a demonstrable capacity for good judgment is a requirement. Even if we assume the most innocuous scenario imaginable, asking female subordinates to bear your child is just plain dumb. 470 O suspect the bad writing is unintentional. Limited time/deadlines and space limitations are a big part of the problem. Anyone can write a 10-page paper; it's much harder to reduce it to 5 pages and still have all the content, and that process takes time. Same problem in journalism. Also, a lot of these journalists seem young and simply don't have much experience writing.

Posted by: Bear with Assymetrical Balls at December 08, 2017 05:02 PM (shMPn)

471 Sure, Roc Ingersol, that's how reality works. You say something and I interpret it and vice versa. If you're going to say something on a delicate subject that could lead to fairly serious misinterpretation, it behooves you to be clear.

If you approach a female subordinate and ask her to bear your child, which is a bad idea to begin with, you should at least leave no doubt that you intend a decent commercial transaction based on your inability to conceive a child with your wife.

472 If some liberal Democrat had done this we would have a thread about the various ways the guy is a scumbag complete with invented words.

I'm being completely honest here, I have one standard for the Democrats and one for Republicans.

473 >>AP Exclusive Former aide says GOP Rep Trent Franks offered her 5 million to carry his child

I'm guessing, for 5 Million, there was also a lot of specific language about the planting of the seed.

474 445 Buzzion - The Roy Moore thing is a classic example of Goodthink Whites hating on Badthink Whites.

I would suggest you ask your Goodthink White Friend does she feel disgusted by Woody Allen and Roman Polanski? Goodthink Whites, up until about three weeks ago, would automatically defend these two to reveal their amazing virtue and sophistication.

Just a thought.

--Heh, this was my sockpuppet Barky review:

"Docked from six stars for lacking poodle roast, crunchy fig salad, and sauteed grasshopper."

476 354 thank you flounder, for your advice.I sent her a text that I was hurt and sad by her comments and I don't want to end a friendship of 20 years over politics but wasn't sure she felt the same. I said why don't we agree to disagree and leave poliitics out of it.
Balls in her court now. Funny thing - I got an apology from SOMEONE ELSE at the table that I was sort of beat up.
If she doesn't answer I have my answer.
thanks to the Horde. this is a toughie.
