FBI Agent Who Exchanged Anti-Trump, Pro-Hillary Messages Was Also Key Investigator for Russian "Collusion" Probe, As Well As... Hillary Clinton Email Investigation

Oh, and he was allegedly having an affair with an FBI lawyer who worked for Andrew McCabe.

Andrew McCabe's wife ran for political office in Virginia, and took donations from Hillary bagman Terry McAuliffe during her race. McCabe decided that this did not constitute any conflict of interest and insisted on keeping himself central in the email investigation.

I guess McCabe knew the right people to put on his pet investigation. People you can trust -- goodfellas.

A top FBI agent at the center of both the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team for exchanging derogatory text messages about the president with a colleague.

Peter Strzok, a veteran FBI investigator, was shuffled off to the FBI's human resources department by Mueller after the Justice Department’s inspector general opened an investigation into the texts, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

And according to The Washington Post, Strzok exchanged the messages with Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer who was also assigned to and later removed from Mueller’s team. Strzok and Page, who works for FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, were reportedly having an extramarital affair.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller’s office, said that Strzok was removed from the Russia investigation as soon as the inspector general’s findings were revealed this summer.

"Immediately upon learning of the allegations, the Special Counsel's Office removed Peter Strzok from the investigation. Lisa Page completed her brief detail and had returned to the FBI weeks before our office was aware of the allegations," Carr told The Daily Caller.

The text messages showed Strzok and Page reacting with anti-Trump sentiments to certain news events, including the presidential debates.

Mueller's personnel moves, which were made at some point over the summer, had remained a mystery of the former FBI director’s expansive investigation.

Strzok was a major player in the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations.

He was the FBI's lead investigator on the Clinton email investigation, so much so that he interviewed the former secretary of state on July 2, 2016.

Days later, then-FBI Director James Comey announced that he would not be recommending charges against Clinton for mishandling classified information on her private email server.

More:

For nearly four months, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office, the Justice Department and the FBI have kept secret the fact that the FBI agent who oversaw the Russia investigation exchanged anti-Trump and pro-Hillary Clinton text messages with an FBI attorney who was also his mistress.

Those messages, the existence of which were revealed in bombshell reports published over the weekend, highlight a pattern of the Mueller team.

Many of Mueller’s prosecutors -- it has been extensively reported -- have made campaign contributions to Clinton and other Democratic political candidates. And a review by The Daily Caller shows that Mueller lawyers involved in the cases against four Trump associates are Democratic donors.

The discovery could also undermine the integrity of Mueller’s expansive investigation. That’s because Strzok is the FBI agent picked in July 2016 to supervise the then-fledgling investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government.

Strzok's central role in the probe is already raising questions about how and why the collusion investigation was opened in the first place.

Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser targeted in the early stages of the investigation, told TheDC on Sunday that he is "curious…whether [Strzok's] fingerprints" are on a secret surveillance warrant taken out against him in Sept. 2016, just after he left the Trump team.

Over the weekend, Matt Drudge was tweeting the question, What's the punishment when the FBI lies to us?

I don't expect an answer.

44 willow showed up on the thread below while I was writing this:

Almost no one in the US, at least not publicly, is paying any attention to what is shaping up to be one of the most momentous and game changing events of the coming year. Saudi Arabia is mobilizing for a major war with Iran, and they have taken on Israel as a de-facto military ally, since the Saud's don't have the military strength to take on the Shiites on their own. Israel is willing because a) they see Hezbollah in Lebanon as their greeatest current military threat, and this gives them the chance to take Hezbollah out, and b) they can use Saudi influence and money to end the Palestinian situation once and for all.

Not sure who you are saying is not paying attention in the US. General public? Absolutely correct. Newsies too busy telling them Trump's latest tweets and their impeachment fantasies.

Just like other things, I don't think that Saudi and Israeli actions are random. There is a plan in place. ISIS is done as a caliphate and a force in the field - any dickweed can run over people with a truck, doesn't take an ISIS to have that happen.

Now ISIS is off the table, scores will be settled. Lots of players in Syria, water is going to seek its own level. I think the US (i.e., Trump) set it in motion when he went to the ME. He said help me get ISIS, I will let you have freedom of action against Iran. Which helps us, too.

Agree about independence, as an abstract matter, however there is a long history of specific agencies or positions maintaining their independence, in act, and in manner/cosmetics. And it is one thing that has been trashed - one of the unwritten yet very valuable things the US has built up is a modicum of public integrity that is the rarest thing in human history (not uniform, not perfect, but clearly far above what has been seen elsewhere).

Take the IRS under the affirmative action intern. Typical for the commissioner to not go to the WH, aside from Christmas parties and other social occasions. Forever. Then, during the Tea Party-targeting phase (itself, and until Mega-Scandal 2016/2017, the worst scandal in US history), I think that alien-lookng fella was at the WH *dozens* of times (and his top deputies). That at least trips the cosmetics wire. Dramatically.

122 This is likely to turn into a Big Fucking Deal and hopefully soon. On the morning thread, Jack Straw referred to this:

https://tinyurl.com/yamke6s3

As Jack pointed out, this has been out there since January, but mostly ignored: The DOJ OIG has been running an investigation of how the DOJ/FBI tanked the Hillary investigation, leaked to the press and other matters. It's all there in wonderful black and white on official letterhead. And it's from from Jan 2017, so that the scope of the investigation may have expanded.

What we're reading today is actually a pre-emptive leak.

Any decent investigation will show that the DOJ/FBI violated ordinary procedures with immunity deals and active destruction by the FBI of targeted computer hardware.

It will also show that Assistant Attorney General Peter J. Kadzik shared information about the congressional investigation of Hillary Clinton with his BFF. Kadzik has since left the DOJ.

And word is that Srzok was the point on "handling" Weiner's server.

And that's just for openers. Over the last year, this investigation may have gotten a lot broader. Let us pray!

I have posted this here about half a million times. Lying to congress is a felony punishable by 5 years in jail and/or a $5K fine. The way it works is which ever house is "lied to" they vote on whether or not to issue a criminal contempt citation. The law requires that that citation be sent to the DC circuit court and the DC DA or the AG must empanel a GJ immediately. The GJ does the "indicting".

Yes Holder and the DC courts violated that law at least twice under Obama. The only solution for that is impeachment. But congress and the uniparty had already given Obama and his whole team immunity. So he did not give a shit.

167 This is a turning point.

In years to come, either the FBI will be spoken of as a respected part of our law enforcement apparatus or spoken of in hushed tones, people in Russia spoke of the KGB.

There are those currently in the FBI who are actually rooting for the latter, not the former.

Patience, dear. I've been saying for months this was going to happen and now I'm just savoring it.

I'll find the link again in good time but the lawyer is just another in a seemingly endless number of leftists at the DOJ. This is one of the reasons that things have been so quiet during the investigation, you don't want the foxes to know that they are being watched.

As soon as William Campbell was outed as the confidential FBI informant who can supply evidence on the Uranium One scandal, "confidential sources" at the DOJ started passing damning statements about him to Michael Isakoff at Yahoo so he could start questioning his credibility.

The OIG who has stepped forward to claim that their was beyond Top Secret information on Hillary's email server and she was guilty of serious crimes, he was threatened by various DOJ and political sources and told he would be terminated as soon as Hillary was elected.

These people play for keeps and they are dug into the government. Uncovering them and exposing the chain of corruption doesn't happen overnight and it doesn't allow for afternoon naps.

But chickens are coming home to roost at last.

The FBI has a lot of hits and misses. But when the FBI believes it is unassabilable (i.e., unaccountable), it will have more misses. All agencies should be held to account. Congress could do it, but won't. The people can hold them accountable every four years.

It really shouldn't be the executive branch's responsibility to investigate the executive branch (in certain high level matters). Because in the end, it is always the President investigating the President. That's absurd. We twists ourselves into this belief of independent and non-partisan investigations when they are anything but.

If only we followed the Constitutional design, and let Congress investigate the President or hold the President accountable. We wouldn't have these absurdities.

349 I (still) really want to believe Sessions is being aggressive and methodical. But hints of a report looking into what "we" have known for a long time ... and maybe some deck chairs will be rearranged .... that is not near enough.

One guy removed from the Mueller investigation after months of damage, and they delayed revealing even that. If all we get is a few guys taking early retirement after massive treason ... we LOST. The damage from Mueller is ongoing.

But maybe they are getting to Podesta (and/or his brother) and that will lead to arrests/prosecutions ... and Podesta will be wearing a wire to talk to Queen Hillary. But all the coverups have been treasonous as I see it. Major prosecutions have to be coming, not reports, finger pointing, a couple plea deals, more immunity deals ... blah blah same ole same ole.

I want vultures picking at their bones, not a couple chickens squawking as they retire comfortably.

Who watches the watchmen, indeed? This is why the inspectors general were created, but then who do they report to when its the justice department that's bent? The FBI for decades had an absolute reputation for being incorruptible and trustworthy arbiters of justice and truth. I doubt that was true, but they were very, very scrupulous about how they appeared to the public, thanks to J. Edgar Hoover (insert ridiculous tranny myth here).

These days, who trusts them? Who'd even talk to them? After the Whitey Bulger scandal, the latest antics, who thinks they are trustworthy or even interested in the truth?

IIRC, the existence of the Glomar Explorer wasn't a secret. What was secret was its function and capability, viz., to be able to lift a Soviet sub. I think the cover story was that it was laying undersea cable or something.

Which would be sensible. Pretty hard to keep secret the existence of a huge ship, and the effort to do so would just attract attention once someone noticed its existence.

Well, it wouldn't bother me even if the FBI did cross the line a bit into entrapment, as long as such activities were limited to jihadi blowhards, who don't belong in civilized countries, anyway. But I am wondering if they ever manage to stop truly dangerous and well-organized plotters, who presumably have some sort of OpSec?

Are they getting anything other than the low-hanging fruitcakes?

424 Is it just me or does anyone else find that a federal union labor negotiation is against the public's interest?

Clearly it is, and revoking that would be one of the most constructive, valuable things that congress could possibly do. Its not like federal employees have ever been slave wage working oppressed coal miners at any point in time. They've always done pretty well, particularly with incredible job security.

-------------

A Constitutional ban on federal voting by federal employees (including Constitutional representatives) but excluding military (or maybe even including them) would be a good start.

I don't want to read about what is ... I want solutions to these problems.

It's like my car has bad brakes. I take it to the dealer and say, "My car has bad brakes." The mechanic works on the car for three hours and comes and tells me, "You car has bad brakes."

And I say, "Yes, I know. I don't want you to tell me what is wrong with the car. I want you to fix what is wrong with the car."

"Oh," the mechanic says, and goes back to work on the car for another three hours at $120 dollars an hour for shop labor plus parts, shipping and handling, taxes and disposal fees.

When I leave the dealer, I have less money, and the brakes are still bad, and I'll have to take it back and raise a stink.

I get more satisfaction out of organizing my sock drawer.

Now you are weary and resting from your labors. You do not expect rewards from others, yours were freely given. But honest reflection makes you wonder. Would it be bad to indulge in a small gift for myself? One that others may not have considered? One that costs so little but brings such great joy to someone who has given happiness to others?

No question but that they exist, but as you point out, extracting metals from the sea is pretty much a fool's errand for now.

I've read proposals to extract gold from sea water with chelating agents, but a back of the envelope calculation indicates that to get any significant amount of gold you'd have run cubic MILES of seawater through the chelating resin. At that point you'd be losing more of the resin through dissolution - despite the very low solubility of the resin - than you'd be gaining in gold.

You know that it's customary to have at least two circuits servicing a given room, right? So the fact that in a given room some outlets are hot, and others not, is par for the course. Electricians do this so that a problem with one circuit doesn't leave the entire room without power. You'd think one room, one circuit, but no.

I don't think so. The thought is that they had an explosion onboard.

The last transmission was water coming in the ventilation system and causing the batteries to short out, and a fire onboard.

There was a short period where the crew attempted to call out on personal satellite phones, but nothing else has been reported, as of the 28th of September.

One of the searching ships thinks it may have found wreckage on the bottom, but the first contact they found wasn't the sub. They are looking at a couple of other possible sonar contacts (reported yesterday).
Weather conditions continue to be adverse for searching.
