Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | McCain, Murkowski Announce Support of Tax Reform BillMurkowski had a demand: opening a small part of the Alaska National Wilderness Refuge to oil exploration. That's like the easiest, gimmie-est demand ever. I'm not sure why we weren't acting on that already. McCain also announced he will support a Republican measure, just to prove that it can actually happen.“After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to support the Senate tax reform bill. I believe this legislation, though far from perfect, would enhance American competitiveness, boost the economy, and provide long overdue tax relief for middle class families," McCain said in a statement. The DJIA spiked 332 points to close over 24,000 for the first time in history. The stock market rally of 2017, which has pushed the Dow up nearly 23%, has been fueled by a global economic recovery that has been a boon for corporate profits and lifted consumer confidence to its highest levels since 2000.Here's the Director's Cut of the Wii Fit Cowbell Girl: Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Trump's Recovery appears to be gaining speed, and that much sooner and at a more rapid pace than Regan's post-Cadduh revival.
Difference being, that Reagan's Recovery didn't really become utterly convincing until well into his first term. While now, under Trump this skyward sprint of the Dow, record low unemployment, record high workforce participation and very, very sudden realization of a 3.3%+ GDP growth rate...are indeed, utterly convincing. I just looked at the lasted H.4.1 (Fed balance sheet). Still stands at $4.4T on the asset side, with $2.2T in reserve, digi-dollar balances. Theoretically, that should catch fire and inflate like hell. Unwinding that monetary incontinence is going to be a difficult tricky operation. But again, I've concluded the system is so rigged, that all that won't do anything unless the banking powers that be want it to. So it's a good as not being there, unless they decide to let it loose all at once, which they won't. Unless they're bat-shit. Which they might be. I'm not sure why we weren't acting on that already. Maybe she just brought it up. ---------- The MN DFL is running ads against Congressman Eric Paulsen, telling him to vote NO on Arctic Drilling. Anyone else worried about runaway Inflation, now?
Of course. The Fed pumped funny money into the economy because the economy was on life support, thanks in no small measure to the policies pursued by our dusky Messiah (e.g., Obamacare). If the Fed had allowed interest rates to rise to where they really should have been - viz., where arm's length investors, such as the Chinese, would invest - rather than buying our own debt (how does that work, exactly?) the country would have gone into a deep recession, maybe a depression. Now that the economy is moving again, all of that liquidity is going to be chasing the same quantity of goods and services, which on one hand allows the Fed to raise interest rates, and on the other necessitates that it do so. #102 yes...but.
There have been a lot of studies showing the deflationary pressure of technology. One curious thing about the treasury flushing all that money into the economy was that it barely moved growth, and inflation stayed at close to zero. This is the exact opposite of what theory predicted, leading many to believe that, but for the massive dose of capital, we would have had a massive depression. The opposite point of view is that we are in a permanent and deepening depression - assets and prices are being pushed down faster and faster due to technology. That is the cause of the malaise, not the housing bust of 9 years ago. The problem will only continue to get worse going forward. I love the fed discussing raising interest rates...Why? What inflation are we trying to prevent? What is the reasoning? Sell off the crap on your balance sheet at a discount if you have to - it is all pretend QE money anyway. Posted by: Dean Wormer at November 30, 2017 06:35 PM (fftfA) 143
I used to watch H.4.1 and the other crap all the time. I haven't paid attention in a while, but I was just looking. The Fed still has $1.7T of MBS (mortgage backed crap) on its balance sheet. And $2.5T of Uncle debt. Hell, I remember when they hit this milestone, and they still are, the largest single holder of federal debt. Meaning the printing press has supplied the largest single fraction of US debt. In absolute terms, that's about 12.5% of total debt. In terms of debt held by the public, the real money (not counting intragov debt, which is the faux IOUs for SS and the other trust funds) borrowed, is $14.9T. So that's about 17% of that outright monetized. Round that to 20%, and you can say roughly that 1 out of every 5 dollars Uncle Sam owes is taken up by the printing press (digital press, of course). I remember reading several pieces trying to spit ball just what the real hit to US GDP would've been if the system had been allowed to properly reset (as it should). That is, all the worthless dog crap on the balance sheets, the stuff that the market was realizing was worthless (all these mortgage backed shit, etc, caused by spending money you didn't have and couldn't really pay back). Had that been allowed to proceed, it would be another Great Depression. I've seen estimates of 20% or better hit to GDP (nobody really knows, these were just educated spitballing). And that is of course, something they could not allow to happen. Everything that was done was to keep that crash from happening. I believed at the time, and still do, that it just delayed the inevitable reset and makes it even worse when it comes. But economics is part laws of physics and part psychology. At some point, reality asserts itself. But the delusions can go on for a long time. Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at November 30, 2017 06:53 PM (8O3HH) 190

Zombie,
You should figure out why Twitter is giving you such trouble. I am running an iPad, plain vanilla, and can just click on a twitter nametag, and go to their twit page. I can see the videos and all that stuff on their page. I am not enrolled in Twitter or facebook, or any of that crud. I do have local cookies enabled, and I think I have Java enabled. Other than that, my security settings are pretty paranoid. Posted by: rd at November 30, 2017 06:57 PM (4dz1m) 196
To give Ronaldus Magnus his due, Carter left him an economy that was in far worse shape than the economy Barry left to Trump. During the Carter administration, the inflation rate topped at 13.x%, while the prime rate was just shy of 20%. It took all of 1981 and most of 1982 to wring out that killer inflation rate. The Republicans in the House and Senate were crushed in the 1982 mid-terms. It wasn't until early 1984 that it was self-evident to the voters that it was truly "morning in America".

I fear, sadly, a good many of us itemizers will be hit by this, and yes, we vote Right. I have my house on the market. Based on guesses in the media, the 500K mortgage deduction cap may cost me a 2%-5% reduction in sale price. I'm OK with it. If it doesn't happen, the market driven reduction may be a lot more when the rest of the boomer cohort heads south and .... the rising generation generally can't afford the elevated asking price. Like health care costs and college costs, sooner or later something is going to pop. It certainly is overdue for those sectors. Better for my kid's generation to put the brakes on housing cost escalation. Plus, nobody has ever justified the subsidy by fly-over land America of the Acela bubble and West Coast enclaves' lifestyles and expensive and intrusive governments.
