GOP Senators Amending Tax Reform Bill With Obamacare Mandate Repeal

I don't want to give away the fun bit, but check out John Thune's explanation as to why it's fair to include this repeal in the tax reform bill.

I think I remember a few people here making that argument.

Update: Mitch McConnell is on board.

"We're optimistic that inserting the individual mandate repeal would be helpful and that's obviously the view of the Senate Finance Committee Republicans as well," McConnell told reporters.

32 School shooting in CA just apsycho who flipped out -- not terrorism, not political:

"“It was very clear at the onset that we had an individual that was randomly picking targets,” Johnston said.

He declined to release the name of the shooter but said the gunfire began with a domestic violence incident that neighbors reported.

Brian Flint told the Record Searchlight newspaper in the city of Redding that his neighbor, whom he knows only as Kevin, was the gunman and that his roommate was among the victims. He said the shooter also stole his truck.

“The crazy thing is that the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines,” Flint said. “We made it aware that this guy is crazy and he’s been threatening us.”

Authorities have recovered a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns after the shootings in the rural subdivision described on its website as a “quiet private country community” where “the people are friendly and the pace is relaxed.”

I can tell you the rumor on the ground here in Kentucky is that Mitch was kicked out of the army for molesting troops of lower rank or just for being gay. There was supposedly some documents in the library of the University of Kentucky collection that should share light on Mitch's sudden discharge however those went missing in the early 90's and this story (the missing document part) was noticed in the early 90's by the old Kentucky Kernel.

So get word to Mr Bannon. Let's make a turtle soup.

According to a press release from the Mayo Clinic and McCain himself, he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma and has a poor prognosis.

Glioblastoma's depending on where they are located and the size, have differing outcomes. There have been individuals live as long as five years, the average is 18 months.

McCain is , what 82? He shouldn't be in the Senate just from the standpoint that NO one should be in Congress for decades. Much less someone who is diagnosed with a fatal brain cancer.

I'm sure there's more than a few people who think that lying on an IRS return could land them in deep shit. Better to have the dog eat the return, the mailman lose it, or whatever...

Not a brag, but I've produced material in the million run number and Holy Shit does that take a lot of time, energy, and material. A million 'lost' tax reforms? The IRS knows they can't do shit. Sure they can automagically send out millions of notices every 30 days, but that doesn't generate revenue, only cost.

I imagine there's been more than a few 'closed door' sessions where the IRS commis explained this to our betters.

Posted by: Ace Tractor Seat Supply at November 14, 2017 04:14 PM (ajiE5)

191 Won't this acclerate the end of ObamaCare? There won't be any money. Young people won't buy policies or pay penalty. Heck, even families won't.

It should never have been done the way it was. The existing framework should have stayed, and then pools formed for hi risk and pre-existing conditions. B/c those needing more healthcare totally skew the premiums for everyone else and screws up the whole system. And yes, healthcare and insurance is more expensive with less choice b/c of what they did.

Plus, they gave carte blanche to drug companies to set prices. Wtf? No negotiations. Which has Americans paying way more than other countries, and we should be paying less, based on numbers alone. What assclowns. Must have gotten personal graft in order to give that away. A business person would have been fired for doing that.

And this healthcare should be free crap? No, it shouldn't. You have a responsibility to care for your health and basics of living. Why should it be free. It disincentives people. They don't have to take care of themselves. It uncouples responsibility and behavior too.

Nor do I want the IRS determining my healthcare. Nor the govt. In general. Palin was right about death panels...but it wouldn't be called that. But yes, we would have to ration care.

Just stream of conciousness really. I wasn't on Ace when this whole thing went down.

Ok, just a question to clear up my ignorance.

Regarding the above, gun use seems to be taken for granted. Ie. "he'd been shooting a lot of bullets lately", as if but for the recent uptick, him shooting off some rounds in his back yard would be no big deal.

But I thought that CA had among the most restrictive gun regulations in the US. Is it that the gun control laws only apply to certain cities like LA or SF? I thought when CA clamps down, it tends to clamp down on things statewide (like paté and plastic bags).

Practical effect on those hardest hit (by far) by O-care: zero. Individual market unaffected, still destroyed.

Principle: so endorsing one of SCOTUS's worst blunders is "clever"? No, it's stupid. Even as a tactical matter, to conform with germaneness rules in Congress. Especially when a completely adequate, mundane angle (fiscal effect) is sufficient to meet that test.

Nice reminder of the state of things, though. GOP will not repeal, per its promises for years, and just as important refuses to make their "opponents" pay any political price for blocking repeal.

That could kill its chances also.

Seems to me that eliminating the individual mandate is one of the two ways to speed up the death of Obamacare, the other being not backstopping losses to insurance companies, which I believe they've done somehow already. Is that true? At any rate, they will "own it" when Obamacare does hit the wall because by meddling in it they've put their foot on the accelerator.

They better have a plan B after that, because the press and the Ds will scream bloody murder, and the dolts will believe them.

So in short, I see this as a down payment on undertaking a huge responsibility by the GOP, which cuts against their proven character.

They could deal with a Democrat president, but not being a minority party."

I agree with this. McConnell is an annoying insider but IMO he is not the monster he is often portrayed in conservative circles (from Mark "buy my books and CRTV" Levin). He stood up to a lot of abuse from Obama/Dems/Media over the Garland pick and it paid off for conservatives. He can't really help it if Collins/Murkowski/McCain are determined to F us at every opportunity.

Posted by: navybrat at November 14, 2017 04:11 PM (w7KSn)
________________

Clearly you're not an illegal alien, or you would have been clued in about this at one of our seminars, amigo!

Document perjury is a crime that is rarely prosecuted, for a simple reason: it is a specific intent crime. That means that the prosecutor has to prove that you intended to perjure yourself, in order to get a conviction.

It's quite simple to negate the intent element: just say that you misunderstood the question. (We tell "undocumented Americans" to claim that they don't read English well, as it is not their first language. But you can come up with any excuse that works for you. ) No specific intent, no provable crime, no prosecutor will bother to charge you.

To give you an example we use often, many applications for welfare benefits in the U.S. contain the question "Are you a U.S. citizen or legal resident?" We tell our undocumented Americans to always answer yes. In the unlikely event you are ever questioned about your answer (and citizenship is almost never verified, so it's not a big worry for you), you simply tell the person questioning you that you thought that the question was asking if you want to be a U.S. citizen, not if you actually are a citizen. Simple mistake, right? And your misunderstanding negates the requisite specific intent.

See how easy it is, amigo?

264 Speaking of La Raza and illegal aliens...

I went to a citizenship swearing in ceremony yesterday. My sister's fiance became a citizen. It was very disheartening what I saw.

First off all the judge who administered the oath spent 10 minutes spewing SJW talking points. No mention of the greatness of America, the history of America, the freedoms. Nada. Just how awesome it is that people from all over the world are here since our greatest strength is our diversity.

Next up, they had a voter registration booth right there. And the judge said that it is the duty of new citizens to participate in the democratic process. Not it was their choice or their right mind you but their "duty". You're a brand new citizen and a judge says something is your duty, chances are you will follow instructions and make sure to vote for every "D".

Then the judge also emphasized that now that you are citizens you have a right to petition for all your relatives back home. And if you see the nice man at that booth over there, he will show you how to do it.

There were maybe 50 people getting sworn in. Of those 50, 5 or 6 were Europeans. Maybe 1/3 spoke English, the rest had a translator. Which is odd since one of the requirements of being a citizen is passing a fucking English literacy test. If more than 15 of them earned more than $8/hr I'd be shocked. They might as well have included a SNAP and WIC application form with the citizenship certificate.

So on that fine autumn morning at least 45 permanent Democrat voters were sworn in. And this shit happens 5 days a week, every week in every courthouse building in America.

Whenever you wonder why the fuck is my country in the shit it is? This is a reason. It's not the only reason of course, plenty of home grown idiocy as well. But this shit certainly is helping accelerate the demise.

There was a story from the Plain Dealer in the book that was originally printed on the front page of the newspaper at that time (1972). It was about the injustices this guy faced in dealing with the system. Among the injustices listed and printed on the front page of the newspaper was:

"He was forced into unwanted association with homosexuals while in prison."

Yes, they didn't like it being called a tax. But that's not what drove Roberts. He had two choices, indeed, two prepared arguments written up to decide between:

1) This is unconstitutional and must be struck from the law, effectively killing ACA
2) This is a law, so you can keep doing it.

And your argument is that... he chose #2... on the theory that in the future at some point, congress might decide to do what he could have done with a single decision and hence kill the ACA?

Obamacare repeal is nice, but why not just flip the SS wage tax split to 2% less from the individual and 2% more from the company? 357 Don't they have the largest oil reserves in the world
Their oil can only be refined in the U.S. because it's full of IIRC sulphur.

359 Yes. But the scenario you lay out has been happening already for decades--and is happening now. Democrats will continue to hold those districts. But they aren't making inroads into Republican ones--and in places--like the increasingly blue Virginia---the difference is being made by the "importation" of upscale WHITE voters.
Posted by: JoeF. at November 14, 2017 04:42 PM (7uYFy)

_____

It's not an either/or scenario. They are winning VA thanks to immigration AND white voters who work for the govt.

The few Republicans in congress left in SoCal will be gone in the next decade as this continues. You're right it doesn't happen overnight. But every 2 years more and more once solid red CDs become less red as more and more new citizens get the right to vote. And eventually they turn blue and then solid blue.

And it's incredible how smart Republicans are in on it. It's almost as if they don't want to win elections or something. But that's crazy talk. I know.

360 I once had the IRS send me a "corrected" return that replaced my own.
Some pinhead in Ogden UT added 3 zeros to a 1099 form.
They wanted about $75k in back taxes and penalties.

THAT ONE THING took me 3 years to clear up.

Master-Blaster rules Bartertown and he'll make sure this goes nowhere. It will be the usual Saloncon approved standard republican failure theater.

364 Treehouse had a post about Venezuala. They need hard cash. Russia and China were paying by reducing the debt they owed to them. Mnuchin and Trump put in sanctions and we were the only country giving them cash. We are putting a squeeze on them to pump up an opposition party in the country.

Sessions made the admission in defense of his predecessor, Loretta Lynch, who used the name "Elizabeth Carlisle" to mask her identity on her government email account.

367 Re: the never ending caterwauling about Moore.

As a female, I will say this. I personally don't believe any of these women. None, nada, not a single one.

The latest one screams nutbar factor six.

The reason Mike Pence has done the intelligent thing and never meets anywhere with a woman alone is for the above reason. There are a large swath of women who are emotional nutbags. I have worked with large groups of women, have been involved in sports and organizations that are overwhelmingly female and feel quite justified in stating that I would rather work with a group of men any day than put up and deal with the conniving, back stabbing , lying , hysterical fantasies that are rampant among any general group of women.

Don't get me wrong, there are individual women out there who are rationale, thinking beings, who are still able to be feminine and nurturing , use intelligent judgement and yet restrain themselves from the moment to moment switch between being kind and being a venomous shrew.

There isn't a decent looking woman out there who at one time, hasn't had their ass grabbed, been propositioned. had dirty jokes told in front of them, had offers of dates, or sex from someone they either barely knew, or was in a "position of power" .

I don't consider any of this to be "sexual assault" . Grow up ladies. Defend yourself, speak up of something offends you, stay away from slimeball offenders, go to your superiors if your workplace is uncomfortable, leave if nothing is improved and don't do stupid things such as get drunk at bars, parties, go to men's hotel rooms by yourself, or in their car, etc.

The MeToo BS is simply attention getting, I want to be a victim" power ploy.

373 Speaking of EOs, whatever happened to Trump's EO to allow cross-border insurance sales? He signed the EO and then nothing changed, and down the memory hole it went.

Oh and if I'm a little pissy today, it's because my cheapest option for insurance for 2018 is $1000/mo with a $12K deductible.

So fuck off McCain, I hope your cancer or whatever it is will be painful, so very very fucking painful.

374 It is a trick. The Republican House and the Republican Senate will not be able to agree, enabled by the usual "RESIST-Republicans" who are devoted to making sure that the GOP does not accidentally keep any campaign promises.

They will come to us in 2018 and say, "We really, Really, REALLY tried, and if you just re-elect us we really, Really, REALLY promise that this time we will do it."

Just what "it" is has not been defined, but I expect that lubricant is not optional.
