MSNBC made sure to call them "asylum seekers," and specify that they were "not from Mexico." Though they did come from Mexico, not as in "originated in Mexico" but "entered from Mexico," and chose to hop a fence rather than apply for asylum legally.

37 I watched that segment, and I didn't see the bias suggested by the comments here on this site. Some people hopped the wall, they went ahead and showed it, and if you watch to the end the reporter went and found the spot where they jumped the wall and he found that he was easily able to see over the wall (and he would have been able to jump over).

Maybe if you watch the whole segment it's more anti-wall, but the piece that was linked definitely made the case that the current fence is hopelessly inadequate. That's much more fair and balanced reporting that I would ever have expected to get out of MSNBC.

1:8 is more flexible. In general it handles heavier rounds like 77g FMJ really well, but it's also more than capable with the standard 55g M193. I've also heard it handles green tips well. 1:9 tends to be more specialized for 55g to 63g rounds. I'd go with 1:8.

It's really screwed things up. The other kids don't understand why they can't play with their kids...they keep them in the house, and steer them away from the kids playing. So these kids are gonna grow up resentful. Great.

It's all totally fubar. So yea, the immigrant thing is working out wonderfully.

It's not necessary to stop ALL tunneling, any more than it is necessary to stop ALL illegal immigration.

It's only necessary to make it difficult enough to turn the flood into a trickle. That's good enough.

So some future Olympian pole vaults or whatever over the wall, for example. How many people can do that? How many people are willing to dig down yumpty-yump feet, then yumpty-yump feet laterally, hauling all the spoil away, only to have the tunnel exit discovered the next morning by the Border Patrol on the groomed desert on the American side? That's a lot of work for a one off thing.

I seem to recall that a not insignificant number of illegals are actually Visa overstays. That tends to be something brought up by the amnesty lovers as a way to go "See the wall idea is dumb!" But that is of course stupid. Say visa overstays are 50% (its not that high but just saying) that still means a border wall would cut off the source of that the other 50% used to come here illegally.

But see, THAT'S WHAT THEY DO. They come over the border and actively seek out ICE officers, because THEY KNOW what happens next. They get a note informing them that they'll be summoned for an immigration hearing, then they probably get something to eat and drink, maybe even transportation somewhere for placement (if they're an "unaccompanied minor"), or hooked up with family already in the country, and then they just... disappear. They know no one will stop them or send them back, and they know that they can just disappear into the landscape once ICE has done their paperwork.
So yes, they DO turn themselves in. But only because they know it won't result in any consequences, and will actually get them settled into the country faster than if they tried to avoid apprehension.

Emplace SEIDARM sensors just north of that. Then a paved road for the exclusive use of border protection units. Big, beautiful 30 foot tall wall just north of that.
