MSNBC Gun Expert: Gun Rights People Argue Against Banning Silencers Because Hunters Use Them So the Deer Can't Hear Them

Perfect.

He goes on to rebut this famous argument offered in support of suppressors by saying that hunters were able to hunt deer for centuries before the invention of suppressors.

"Sportsmen, hunters would make an argument that they need that so that their target, whether it's a deer, etc. don’t hear the shot," Gomez claimed, "but numerous other sportsmen have shot from muskets–when the founding fathers started the Second Amendment--up until now successfully killed game animals without the use of a silencer."

I like how he made up a completely stupid argument no one has ever made in the history of forever and then rebutted that stupid argument with a stupid snarky rejoinder to the stupid thing he said.

Sometimes when I'm hunting deer, I use ninja stars to silently take down their sentries.

BTW, I think the idea when you're hunting deer is to actually hit the thing in the heart, so it doesn't matter what he hears or what he doesn't. And I'm pretty sure the decisive period where deer's hearing is important is as you're setting up the shot or even approaching the deer.

When you pull the trigger, you either have a wounded or dead deer, or a deer in full flight. A deer that gets spooked by a bird suddenly taking to wing is not going to just going to take a wait and see attitude when he hears any shot, suppressed or not.

Artist's conception of Special Agent Gomez hunting deer

Now if you think that's stupid, check out this very well-crafted visual pun by the Politico scribbler.

Makes you think, huh?

I like the political cartoonists who are so shitty at drawing they have to label everything with text.

By the way, this entire prog paroxysm over the idea that Congress is voting to repeal the law this week against suppressors?

It's #FakeNews. They just made it up to give themselves something to shriek about on Twitter.

The press is at its worst in the hours immediately following a mass shooting.

Rumors get credibility-garnering airtime and speculation is reported as fact as reporters and pundits allow their passions to trump their better judgment.

On Monday, for example, certain journalists claimed Congress is set to vote this week on the Sportsmen Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, which includes a provision that would loosen federal restrictions on gun suppressors. Considering that the supposed vote would likely take place just days after a gunman opened fire at a music festival in Clarke County, Nevada, killing 58 and injuring hundreds more, reporters' palpable disgust made sense.

The only problem here is that the House has no plans to address H.R.3668 this week, and it never did. The story is a total fabrication.

Oh, and of course, Brian Williams really pushed gun control today.

And this tool "reporter" admitted he can't report objectively on guns:

Hero of the Fuckboi Twitter-Clique "Right" Jake Tapper also decided to stop reporting, and start wishing for liberal Democrat agenda items:

There was a guy in Michigan back in the 1920s who blew up the schoolhouse in Bath with surplus WWI explosives. Guy worked on the schoolboard, or did, and had keys and access. Spent a lot of time placing the explosives. Then he killed his wife, set his farm on fire, packed his car with explosives and drove to the school so he could lure the superintendent over and then he discharged a shotgun in the car for the added murder-suicide angle.

Crazy, crazy motherfucker. His name was Andrew Kehoe and you gotta assume he was as crazy as a shit house rat. One guy who saw him driving to his destiny at the schoolhouse after the explosion said he had a smile on his face so wide you could see all his teeth.

So yeah we've had bad shit before go down. More people would know about it but anything before 1967 is considered the bad old days and roundly mocked rather than held up as a way we can learn from the past.

When guns are outlawed, only the outlaw government will have guns (and the other outlaws that are in cahoots with them)

My sister, BiL and family live in a very rural part of Ohio. At the beginning of gun season, the deer are going crazy. The woods and fields are full of crazy guys in orange vests, banging away at everything. I guess it is actually pretty funny. In Ohio you have to hunt with a shotgun and deer slugs, to prevent an incredible amount of hunter fratricide. The slugs are only lethal to about 100 yards.
Anyways, my BiL picked a spot one year, and twenty minutes after the season began, some doe just ran right in front of him, and BANG!, he had his deer for the season.

Unless our MSNBC tard is just suggesting that hunters like to use suppressors to suppress a series of really shitty shots prior to the lethal one. Which is also nonsensical because suppressors reduce gunshots to jumbo jet levels.

280 Silencers (yes, silencers -- that's how Hiram Maxim referred to the device in his patent application) do have some utility in hunting -- but, as others have pointed out here, not the use suggested by this former FBI idiot that's apparently never hunted, and fired his weapon only during annual qualification.

A silencer would be dandy for squirrel hunting, because a 22 can be made reasonably quiet with one, and then you wouldn't have to worry about annoying the neighbors.

First of all, there already are laws denying the "insane" access to weapons.

Secondly, define "insane" and tell us which virtuous political institution is going to define "insane".

The problem is leftist shit, specifically the Supreme Court's O'Connor v. Donaldson ruling in 1975. Posted by: NaCly Dog at October 02, 2017 09:08 PM (hyuyC)

Tiny Tim used to live on my street in New York. He was one ugly dude. But he wasn't the ugliest person on the block. Yoko had that all wrapped up.

Pee Wee Herman's father was one of the original four pilots in the fledgling Israeli Air Force. Just an interesting factoid.

636 NO, they dont jam to the point of unusability they clear easy enough, and you only need to change barrels if you plan on using the barrel again and/or want to hit what you aim at over time. If you are doing a suicide area destruction mission you can shoot till the the thing slags and fuck the barrel and the headspace.

Posted by: In Vino Veritits at October 02, 2017 09:01 PM

Yeah, jamming isn't a huge issue. They're quick to fix and aren't so prone to jamming that you can't count on running a couple of 100 round belts without pause. Not good for the barrel, but for what he was doing it's not like you have to change that quick. They can be pushed to the limit for awhile.

693 Normally if you want to make it so that a law abiding citizen can't own or do something, you need a damn good reason. That someone who is insane can also own or do that thing is not a reason. Insane people have run people down with cars, set buildings on fire, and hit people with almost everything that you can imagine that can harm a person. Same with misuse of gasoline, rat poison, and draino. No matter what you try to prevent people from owning, it won't change the central problem- that they're insane. Among the deadliest mass killings in US history, fire and an airplane were both used. And let me tell you. Neither employed a silencer. The central problem is that even when we detect people who are destined to cause great harm to society, the left more or less wants to get them to stop with hugs.

I'm tired of every virtue of the right being pointed as a sin, while every vice of the left, including murder, rape, and arson, so long as there are enough check boxes filled, must to the greatest extent possible be forgiven. The road to Serfdom has aged pretty well, but I never thought that the left would be dumb enough to make sure the Nobles and Lords are generally sociopaths of no redeeming value. Because the people you want to walk though the streets as though the laws didn't apply to them, harming people without fear, is the guy who 50 years ago would have been in an asylum for life.

697 I'll bet a lot of US liberals wish we would emulate the Europeans more on matters of public safety. So I will.

After 1000+ young English girls were sex trafficked in Rotherham (and more are coming to light in other cities), the English leaders told the public to simply accept this as a "new normal."

After several instances of non-natives suddenly becoming stabby and attacking Europenas in the streets, leaders in several European countries told their respective citizens to simply accept this as a "new normal."

After several acid attacks against native Europeans, leaders across the Continent told their respective citizens to simply accept this as a "new normal."

After several subway bombings, the English leaders told the public to simply accept this as a "new normal."

After Sweden was turned into the rape capital of Europe, Swedish leaders told their citizens to accept this as a "new normal."

Gee, on second thought, maybe we shouldn't emulate our enlightened European brethren on anything.

We'll handle this ourselves.

the simple fact is, that with enough money, you can get anything... legal or illegal...

And he apparently had money...

This is the problem with saying a LAW will solve something....

We have multiple laws against illegal immigrants... yet 30 MILLION minimum illegals.

We have laws against murder... yet Chicago is nuts...

The Government is not the answer... although they TELL you they are the only solution...

And the only way to fix failed Law, is more Law...

TERRA is good, and gets better. (Some ex-mil had posted complaints about their portrayal of veterans, in earlier comics, but the writers pointed out they were ex-mil too. It is a sensitive topic.)

Girl Genius is done by a Whedon-tier chubby white Feminist Ally so, I worry about it...

I can recommend Data Chasers. Two women, but not anti-male; they are anti-asshole male. I can totally support a female-centred comic done by women who don't hate men as such. Unfortunately one of the writers got sick so the 2016-17 comics have been erratic.

I'm also following Order Of The Stick, Oglaf (nsfw), and Camp Weedonwancha / campcomic.com.

776 Noticed the chatter about the M60 GPMG.

NOT a gun for amateurs (e.g. - non-military types). You could monkey-train somebody how to load and aim it, but the second something went wrong, they'd be lost.

A 100-round drum for an AR is a more real scenario... which begs the question: who brought Mr. Not-A-Gun-owner up to speed for this incident? You could get past non-military experience by watching enough YT vids, but for a supposed 'non-military', 'non-gun guy', he set up an working ambush that would get him a 'go' at the Infantry School.

SOMEBODY got this guy up to speed to pull off that op, I'll bet a c-note on that.

777 19 additional guns, tannerite and ammonia nitrate found at his house. Thousands of rounds of ammo

At the scene, 17 guns. Two modified AR-15s.
.223 and .308 were apparently the main ones used.

Armor-piercing ammo.

Expensive weapons and ammo, no cheap stuff.

That makes sense from what I heard, if 100 round mags are a real thing for AR's as mentioned above. It sounds to me he started with the big cal, came close to exhausting it and dumped it for the small cal with no mag changing needed.

I'd take that bet. Poorly designed ambush, no push, no alternates, just spray. Now, if his car had been rigged to blow at an egress point or as a initiator to push the crowd, id pass him. But, we don't know what was up with the car.

795 I need moron HELP, seriously. If ISIS is telling the truth then the likely source of their threatened follow up attack is given right in the name they made up for Paddock:

"Abu Abdul Barr al-Amriki" translates as "father of worshipful pious son from America." ISIS is claiming that Paddock has an illegitimate son who has joined ISIS.

If this is true we need to identify him--find out if there are any Paddock ex-girlfriends with a son of unaccounted parentage--because if such a son exists he is likely the source of the second related attack that ISIS is hinting at.

See Rita Katz' tweet about ISIS doubling down on its claim of responsibility. The second claim includes a vague threat:

pro-#ISIS message states that those saying it "has nothing to do" w attack will "regret" it

If ISIS is telling the truth, and there IS an illegitimate son, the best bet is that they have him lined up for a second attack, maybe another hotel room full of shooting platforms somewhere.

We need to identify him so we can round him up and question him. Obvious people to ask are Paddock's brothers, his ex wife, and his recent girlfriend.

How can we get people (ultimately the intelligence community) onto this obvious line of inquiry? Anything you can think of, please help!

802 I don't know if it has been mentioned but looking at Google Earth the shot was between 450 and 500 yards with a downward slope. Shooting downward or upward the bullets will hit higher than expected for the slant range to the target.

Not that he was aiming that close and was only shooting at the general area, but someone on the ground shooting up to hit him would have to aim low for the range they saw.

804 When is the government going to take the means for making bombs and explosives out of our stores?

By the way, the Founders weren't so much worried about needing weapons to defend against burglars..weren't all that many back then. All pioneers knew how to trap or shoot game.

They knew we needed the weapons to keep the government out of our homes and unable to take us from our beds and shoot us or burn us because we didn't vote the "right" way, same as they would today were they to have the opportunity and will.

The only encouraging thing to me is that more people in the US own guns than does the entire Chinese army.
