The recent 3% funding increase to the NIH is welcome news for everyone that has been affected by John McCain.

No correlation between funding and John McCain has been proven but the graph really makes this post seem professional

With my father in the hospital, I got to talk with a lot of family today. A cousin of mine, who used is retired but used to work for the National Weather Service, running the GSP station for his last years before he retired, mentioned something.

The federal govt is sending out solicitations for retired govt employees to do some work with all the disaster relief -- it's claim processing, damage assessment, and related stuff.

They are offering $45/hour + overtime and will waive all the retirement benefit rules about how much you can work.

I could never get a read on John McCain. When it comes to important public figures, I try to get a handle on what makes them tick, what drives them.

Take Barack Obama, for example: he's actually fairly easy to understand. His overweening narcissism, his red diaper upbringing, his ideology, his influences (like 'Uncle Frank' Marshall), and so on. You could generally tell which side of an issue President Obama would take before he announced it. Obama is nothing if not predictable.

McCain is different. He's the son and grandson of admirals, both of whom were extraordinary leaders. He endured a horrible, years-long experience as a young officer. He was involved in the Keating Five scandal. But none of these things add up to what we're seeing today.

The only thing I can think explains McCain's current behavior is a strong desire for revenge--that would be revenge against us, you and me, the voters comprising the conservative base of the GOP. But that makes no sense either since most of us voted for his sorry ass in 2008.

I just can't figure the man out.
