Possible Trend? Lefties Taking the "Red Pill" and Turning to the Right, Rejecting SJWism

Maybe some room for optimism.

The mainstream media failed to see the rise of Donald Trump in 2016. Now it's overlooking another grassroots movement that may soon be of equal significance-- the growing number of liberals "taking the red pill." People of all ages and ethnicities are posting YouTube videos describing "red pill moments"--personal awakenings that have caused them to reject leftist narratives imbibed since childhood from friends, teachers, and the news and entertainment media.

You might say that those who take the red pill have been "triggered." But instead of seeking out "safe spaces," they're doing the opposite, posting monologues throwing off the shackles of political correctness.

Their videos can feature the kind of subversiveness that was once a hallmark of the left''before the movement lost its sense of humor.

Candace Owens, a charismatic young African American, posts commentaries on her YouTube channel whose titles seem expressly designed to make PC heads explode.

A sample: "I Do''t Care About Charlottesville, the KKK, or White Supremacy." The commentary calls out liberal fearmongering over white supremacists. "I mean there are, what, 6,000 Klansmen left in our nation. You want me to actually process that as a legitimate fear every day when I wake up?"

...

A later episode about Black Lives Matter got nearly 700,000 views and had the distinction of being briefly taken down by YouTube. Unapologetic, Owens responded with a follow-up commentary -- "What YouTube and Facebook REALLY Think of Black People."

She declared, "There was only one version of a black person that these platforms are willing to help propel towards fame and notoriety--and that is an angry black victim."

The article details more such Red Pill diarists. Here's one of the Candace Owens videos.

15 Willowed from last thread: I had to keep my mouth shut just now. Two of the graduate students in my department were discussing what one had found for his thesis, that in states with "Stand Your Ground" laws, a higher percentage of black people ended up getting shot than did whites. They both thought this was due to racism.

I wanted to say, "Has it ever occurred to you that the higher percentage of blacks being shot is because they commit more violent crimes -- not because more whites 'empowered' by SYG are targeting them?" But it would have made me, shall we say, unpopular.

Or, maybe, states with higher then average crime are higher than average numbers of self defense shootings are the ones more likely to pass "Stand your ground laws."

These laws were passed in response to a real phenomena -- prosecutors and jury instructions were treating the duty to retreat more and more literally. So people who shot a knife wielding man on their sidewalk who didn't first turn their back and run were being convicted of murder, and in response to that absurd scenario, the self defense laws were rewritten to allow for that scenario.

It's not like people are MORE likely to shoot someone because they know the intricacies of self defense law.

The American was the toughest. She was spitting them out as fast as I could stuff them into her mouth. But by the end we all had a group hug. I'm pretty sure she ingested at least ten.

I can see that too. Many authors I read have lefty leanings, whether it is a shout out to man-made global warming, or what they perceive as inglorious treatment of American Indians, or the unscrupulous nature of Big Oil, etc. However, they often also embrace God, family, the second amendment, law, order, and justice. So I can see them parting ways when the libtards go berserk, as they have been.

67 Sort of on-topic - the congressional concurrent resolution.

No, it's not "just a resolution" like national pancake day. It's stupid, and importantly factually flawed, and in mentioning anything other than violence, it doesn't just come close to traditional fences keeping Congress away from criticizing Americans exercising constitutional rights, it jumps that fence in style.

Where is "white supremacy" or "neo-Nazi" becoming "prevalent" - where is it even a measurable factor or phenomenon at all? What is the body count of these dumb marginal psychos in the last 10 years?

Where are the laws or court rulings integrating any beliefs or fantasies or bigotries of these groups?

Now - ask the same questions about the much, much, much, much larger and more important "enemies" of the marginal psychos - who, as Trump said from the outset, were equally responsible for the rumble in C'ville.

Illiterate, unthinking, stupid race-guilt and enthusiastic submission to race-baiting got the US the last 8 years of lawlessness, racism, and destruction. Not to mention the hollowing out of unique American legal and social ideals over a much longer period.

As a practical short-term matter, resolution is meaningless. As a (to date) high-water mark for national degradation, a ringing endorsement of racism (of the actual, prevalent, governing variety), the resolution is an atrocity.

Average people have "hysteria fatigue" ... red pill is the cure.

100% correct.

I actually used to think that this would be a good argument to use with normal liberals: If you had a black kid, would you tell him he's a victim? That every cop is looking for an excuse to kill him? That he'll never get a fair shake in our white-supremacist society?

101 The one I've personally seen is people having a discussion about rape and the "every woman is raped in college" narrative.

Then showing them that the DOJ changed the standard of rape so that if you're drunk or high and have consensual sex without specifically saying "Yes, I consent to having sex," you were raped. Meaning the guys who are also drunk and high are all rapists.

Best way to make high school and college men (and their parents) realize what they're up against and often actively supporting.

Actually highly inappropriate, and inexcusable, to endorse falsehoods ("white supremacy" is significant, or growing), while ignoring *actual* serious violent racism with a double-digit body-count (BLM), and generally repugnant for Congress to speak in opposition to *any* free speech, however stupid or marginal.

But - a perfect summary of the state of the country, even its "adults", at this point.

Well now they have a government commission that has been set up to evaluate and pay compensation claims to the victims. And they are turning many of the victims down, on the ground that they "consented" to the sex. One girl whose claim was denied was a 12 -year old whose 21-year old muzzie rapist got her drunk first.

BTW, the age of consent in UK is 16. So even if these girls were dancing naked in front of the muzzies and saying "come f*ck me," they still could not legally consent to the sex. But the UK government apparently is not satisfied with these kids having only been raped by the muzzies; now they're doing it to them too.

I usually don't trust people who do a complete 180. They usually have an agenda and want to infect their new "home" with some leftism---like the liberals who get fed up with the high taxes and crime of their blue state and flee to a red state---and immediately set about changing it into what they left....

218 Any talk of conversion that covers the last 30 years has to be adjusted - radically - to account for how far/fast the "left" trends have occurred.

Recall that in the 1980s, Paul Simon of IL (conventional liberal) was the main sponsor of a balanced-budget amendment (dumb idea but "conservative", anyway). Harry Reid (and the rest of the mountain-west Dems in the Senate) were to the "right" of 95% of current GOP incumbents on a range of issues, from foreign policy to taxes to federalism. Labor unions were often deeply involved in the fight against Soviet shenanigans, including in violent places like Central America.

To be moderately "liberal" in 1980 was completely meaningless in today's terms of the political spectrum - there's just no comparability.

And of course all this applies to the substance, the personnel, the reality of national policy on many matters. In 1979, the Fed chairman, the Democrat treasury secretary, and the primary dealers on Wall Street "rejected" the federal budget, because of its irresponsible fiscal excesses - and it was changed. As an example. Every single part of that picture simply doesn't exist today.

Sometimes the red-pilling doesn't last. I'm thinking of people like Andrew Sullivan, who was red-pilled on 9/11, but then spent years pasting together arguments to convince himself that Bush and the GOP were really the enemy so that he could return to the comfort of his old belief system. It was ugly, and I resent that he is still referred to as "conservative" when his fleeting conservatism was really only specific to one issue, national security/terrorism.

242 So did anyone see a couple nights ago, the Indians game where the Tiger's pitcher/catcher may have intentionally hit the home plate umpire?

The pitcher Farmer was having a rough night, it was a tight strike zone. He and his catcher were complaining about calls. Well the catcher stands up and starts arguing a call with the homeplate umpire, quinn Wolcott. Wolcott throws him out. Asmus, Detroit manager comes out and he gets thrown out also. (you can't argue balls and strikes its an ejection). They bring in a new catcher. Maybe the second or first pitch, the catcher kind of waives at a fastball as it goes by, (doesn't even lay leather on it), and it hits the ump in the left shoulder. Ump goes down writhing in agony. Catcher walks out to the mound. Looks at the ump writhing on ground over his shoulder as he is walking to mound and doesn't even slow down. Never goes to check on the ump.

Pitcher and catcher on mound. Sportstime Ohio cameras close up on them the whole time. They say nothing to each other. Kinsler, second baseman comes walking, you see pitcher's face, Kinsler says something, Pitcher's mouth hangs open he looks at catcher. Catcher immediately puts hand over his mouth then covers his face with hand. Kinsler walks away.

I dvr'd the game and slow mowed the facial expressions of the guys on the mound. Quite a little drama there.

The pitcher and catcher claim it was all just an accident. MLB is investigating.

Regardless of what MLB finds, the umpires will not forget.

244 Reality always, ALWAYS wins out in the end. This is reality forcing some people to see the unreality of these positions. So yes, this will continue to happen, and yes, it's a hopeful sign. However, the path to get there may be short, or it might take a thousand years - Reagan famously exhorted us to not take that step that leads us toward a thousand years of darkness - but eventually the light of reality does win. Here's to hoping we are actually awakening in time to avoid the long road...

Politics is over. They won the political phase, and now it moves into the totalitarian phase. They have to "subdue" the population somehow to win this phase. If they win this phase then we're a banana republic ran by an occupying government of foreigners, but I don't think they'll have as much luck. 270 Actually the baseball umpire thing, going back a way, is an example of the general rot I'm talking about.

Back when the idiot spit on an ump - and the umpires did not leave the field, at all levels of pro ball, until the idiot was banned for life - there was a great example of collapsed standards.

Said it at the time. Couldn't believe how pathetic and degraded the umps and pro baseball were. Fairly good metaphor for how society has consistently submitted to the demands of racism, tribalism, self-dealing, responsibility-shirking, and various other social cancers for a few decades. In the case in question, the norms of adult behavior (watched by kids) abandoned in favor of a stupid athlete playing a stupid game.

Umm... no.

Stand your ground a legal response to another legal standard known as "duty to retreat". Some states adopted the theory that you have to retreat as a first option when face with a threat. Stand your ground gives you the legal standing to face a threat without attempting to retreat.

It has nothing to do with fighting.

320 Furious George, obviously the southern Dems just became foreign to "their" party as everything changed - more importantly, the center of gravity of the electorate in the south didn't change, while the Dem party went nuts - first slowly, then suddenly, actually.

But even more revealing than, say, a Sen. Heflin in AL - who clearly would be utterly outside the furthest reaches of even the disingenuous/dishonest Dem platform of today, are cases like Sen. Bayh of IN (the junior) or Harold Ford Jr. in KY. Both of them, despite actually being among the smartest in their party, and (almost) a throwback to the previous era of Dems with some seriousness on national security - basically had to exit. In favor of radical non-entities like Obama (I'm lucky to have been present at a very revealing non-public event where Ford's views of Obama and what he represented were shared rather bluntly).

10K is a respectable amount, depending on how many people you have to equip, and the mix of handgun, shotgun, rifle.

Now is the time to lay in respectable amounts, IMO, as prices and availability are returning to reasonable levels.

And, as it turned out, a lot of those who weren't far left ideologues and had grown up among the FDR-dems were willing to shift with the tides, figuratively "going gay for pay" with more demented progressivism as time went on.

Plenty out there who legislated to the right of the modern Republican mean way back when, and are still in office - raving from their script, hard left all the time.

And to be fair, someone *did* try to destroy the Cologne cathedral. Well, didn't really target it, but you know, flak, inaccurate bombing techniques, etc.

Trivia fact: didja know that in Cologne, first major city subjected to heavy Allied bombing (due to its location), and thus first one to sort of descend into disorder, there were roving bands of gangsters, with whom the Gestapo was doing open battle, by the last months of the war? Some gangs included both foreign forced laborers (big internal security problem for the krauts the entire war) and German deserters. Kind of interesting. This pattern did not emerge on a large scale anywhere else.

So, they don't win any elections. Hasn't "The Trump event" proven to you that holding the bureaucracy is better than winning elections. Trump won the election, but the bureaucracy has denied him the power to govern. They own the bureaucracy. The GOP would have to consistently win for decades to undo what's been done, but the GOP is part of the problem, and has actively abetted the progressive takeover of the bureaucracy. This is good, but as I said politics is over and they won. We're now in phase two.

Point of order...anarchy is an extreme far RIGHT philosophy, not a leftist one; the extreme far LEFT philosophy is totalitarianism. Which is kind of funny when you stop to consider just how turned around some things get; the hippies didn't want to hurt anyone else, they just wanted to be left alone to do their own thing (which is about as far right as you can get without going to all out post-apocalyptic wasteland anarchy) while the "conservatives" wanted to dictate to them how to live their lives.

389 Love that last bit about "how to create moral systems without it devolving into finger-pointing." That's the beauty of Christianity, properly practiced. Yes, oftentimes faith-based religion devolves into a Spanish Inquisition-type judgmentalism, but that's a corruption of the system, not adherence to it. Real Christian faith results in the lifting up of one another -- ESPECIALLY when someone is flailing. Faith-less, ideology-based systems naturally coalesce into finger pointing and shaming, without the benefit of either a reasonable moral foundation or the uplifting of the whole group.
