The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"Somebody swiped my tire swing the other day. I blame Russian ninja hackers. And misogyny. And Bernie Sanders. Also his supporters, who were mean to me. Good thing I never went to Wisconsin, that would've been another fruitless exercise. And speaking of fruitless exercise, where's my damn tire swing?"

Who or what has Hillary Clinton blamed for her 2016 election loss. Here is the list (so far):

hillary blame game.jpg

Peter Daou just e-mailed and said 'She needs to ease up a bit on the blame thing.'

Whatever you do, do NOT click on this link. Otherwise, you will be forced to look at this:

'Best swimsuit for my curvy bod': Lena Dunham shows off her figure and a hidden neon orange tattoo on her derriere as she models red bikini

Ugh. Why are they even showing this?

Raise Your Hand If You're Just *Shocked* To See This:

The Trans Health Manifesto:

TRANS HEALTH MANIFESTO

Trans health is bodily autonomy. We will express our needs, and they will be met. We will change our bodies however we want. We will have universally accessible and freely available hormones & blockers, surgical procedures, and any other relevant treatments and therapies. We will end the medical gatekeeping of our bodies. We will have full, historical accountability for the abuses perpetuated against us in the name of 'healthcare’. We will see reparations for these crimes, and the crimes committed against others in our names.

The whole thing is just full of outragey outrage and "poor me" victimology. And their demands are demented. But for those of youse who don't want to click, I'll give you the short version: "We want to do anything we want and somebody else has to pay for it."

12 Did Hillary actually blame the Republicans for her defeat? That's their job, isn't it? I realize the GOPe does not see it that way.
However, in my time in car sales I did come to understand some things. First I had no excuses.
If I did have excuses they might include a poor economy, or low traffic, or poor leads. But my potential excuses never included other salesmen doing a better job me.
That would be stupid.

94 OT, but related to the Tranifesto:

I was at a tech conference the other day, and they were doing shows-of-hands to gauge interest in various topics for discussion sessions. If there were more than 50 hands, it would go in a big room. More than 20 would go in a medium room. Otherwise a small room.

So. One gal proposed a diversity session. IIRC, the exact title was "Under-represented Groups Caucus: Tell Us What You Need."

Three people raised their hands.

And the conference organizer suddenly got really awkward. Should he say "Small"? Or should he pretend that lots of people are interested in diversity bullshit?

He went with "Medium." (Which drew a couple of snickers.)

2. DACA is a huge bargaining chip. Trump is a world-class deal-maker. Yet he just gave it away for nothing? I doubt it.

3. In any deal, you are not going to get it all. That's why it's called a deal. A lot of people seem to think a deal is when they get everything.

4. DACA is not my biggest priority. Neither is the Wall. In some ways, the Wall is what you do when you're struggling with the cultural battle.

A lot of the country believes there should be no country. That we should just abandon our borders, declare every one in the world a US citizen and be done with it, because somebody might call them names. It's suicide and we can't let them take us down with them.

5. After the Defense of the Very Concept of the American Nation-State, our priorities should include:

* interior enforcement
* ending visa overstays
* ending chain migration
* real E-verify
* ending the Lottery
* H-1B
* and ending the criminal conspiracy in Motor Voter, which allows states to register foreign nationals to vote, knowing that they are ineligible.

You can build a Wall, and it helps-- but if we elect another Open Borders traitor, it will stop only jack-rabbits.

I remember thinking "US HANDS OFF KOSOVO" and "SERBIA IS NOT MY ENEMY" would make good slogans to spray-paint on the local freeway soundwalls, and wondering if any of the leftist dupe drivers in California would have their memories and consciences pricked by such slogans.

It's transhumanism to a standard template, sure, and the opposite sex could be said to be a different and superior attainable species, from the right (ridiculous) point of view. I admit that it's the only "knowable" different kind of existence, as far as that goes. The familiar alien.

169 There is a complete blogpost in this somewhere, if I weren't crawling around on ladders hanging security cameras today...

Firsty thing on Hill's list ought to have been Watergate. Seriously. She was there as a junior staffer, and the lesson she took home was Don't Be a Dick. That is, if you're going to destroy evidence, get rid of ALL of it.

Secondy thing on Hill's list ought to have been Mogadishu. Anyone remember Les Aspin? Neither does anyone else, but he was (after a couple decades as a Congressional critic of DoD) Bill's first SecDef. And he signed off on a bunch of lightly-equipped US troopers serving under incompetent UN command. Ergo 'Black Hawk Down' and his demise.

I'm absolutely certain that the first thing that went through Hillary's mind after the Benghazi incident was "I am not going to be Les Aspin" and she managed to pull it off.

Even some of the "Christian" dating/match-making sites are sewers since they don't verify, and pretty much anyone can claim to be a Christian and sign up.

There used to be one where you had to provide verifiable references, i.e. what church you went to and contact info for a minister who would vouch for you, but I don't know if it's still around.

216 Sporkatus (and Jen), note that current "DACA requirements" are not what will eventually be enacted, assuming anything is, and much more importantly - recall reality.

Reality is that enforcement of any requirements for amnesties, or special deals, has historically been very spotty.

You can expect reasonable efforts at enforcement for red-flare normal immigration situations - fake marriages, etc. - but when it comes to amnesties, or H1Bs, fuggetaboutit. Very, very unlikely that any "sweeteners" end up being enforced. Since Trump, plus small well defined group - perhaps chances are better.

But citing statutory "requirements" in matters like this, based on actual history and practice, is dubious at best. Putting it mildly, for sake of comity.

253 Making jumps on Schwinn Sting-Rays without helmets or pads

No, you did not make jumps on a Schwinn Sting-Ray, this I promise you.

You see, my previous cheap knockoff banana-bike Sting-Ray clone had nice sturdy seat mounts, and you could hop over humps with no trouble. Then I bent it.

My parents pulled loose some funds and bought me a Real Schwinn. And the first time I tried to do what I'd done on my previous bike the rear supports of the seat slid down through the clamps and I got to ride home with the seat rubbing on the rear tire.

That bike was never half as much fun as the one it replaced, though I did own Schwinns thereafter, memorably a couple road bikes on which I spent time picking up on girls on bikes in Golden Gate Park with what was, to the ugly nerd me, surprising success.

Once it lasted four years.

Once I really, really, honestly didn't know she was 15, and she certainly didn't act like it.

280 But citing statutory "requirements" in matters like this, based on actual history and practice, is dubious at best. Putting it mildly, for sake of comity.

That's all logical, and I thank you for being one with a cool head, not depending on the inane hearsay and running around setting yourself on fire last thread.

The thing to remember here is the framing. The current state of law is - as you point out - not effective if unenforced, but it seems to be easy for some here to forget that there *is* a "DACA issue" beyond merely rescinding the program in its EO form and not accepting anyone new. Everybody wants their binky and wants us to use our info gathered on these people to hunt them down. Legal, but very bad optics. Putting them on six month notice and telling Congress to sort out what *they* want is astute simply because it lets doubt work for you to get people out, lets Congress decide whether to do anything idiotic, and means that any walkback from strict deportation is "mercy". With strict deportation being the barrel being stared down.

Make no mistake - I don't want any of them amnestied out of hand. but unwinding the program is likely to be bloody.

Good in theory... not so great in reality.

Large numbers of Non Americans serving in units would destroy the US Military culture.

Yes, you have a large amount of control over their actions.... but as they gained rank... their cultural norms would slowly supplant those of those born and raised in the US.

I've watched it happening here in Central Calif., where we went from majority White to Majority Hispanic.... the very culture has morphed until it is unrecognizable.

322 Ok, so Mrs11A isn't a small woman. But she is absolutely beautiful. Hers is a very feminine figure. I'll spare you guys the details, but she is what most would refer to as curvy.

Whatever my wife does to obtain that larger yet sexy appeal, Lena Dunham does not. Dunham is fucking fat, not curvy, and generally looks like a sack of potatoes.

Also, a group of people who commit suicide roughly at a rate of 2 in 5 should not release overly confident manifestos about all the shit they demand other people subsidize. I'm not paying for dick, and y'all should just try to keep your mental issues in check enough to remain on this planet.

I was reading a Fourth Amendment case a couple of years ago and the cops used thermal imaging to determine where in the house people were. There was a parenthetical where the court noted that review of the use of that tech wasn't before the court so it would not be addressed but that there was no question it would be shortly.

Yes, boys and girls, law enforcement is taking the position that if you are sitting inside your own house, doors shut, blinds drawn, and they use a thermal imaging device to see where you are in the house, that's not invading your privacy because you want cops to get shot don't you.

Having watched documentaries on British crime, that's pretty much their job now. They don't go out and do interviews, they don't cultivate relationships with informers, they don't follow up clues and use logic.

They sit and look at video footage. Not on the cameras? Just wait, he will be eventually and then we have him!

And the British are confused why we have a problem with this.

393 Pope F is not okay with Euthanasia. There's a catholic hospital in Belgium that he ordered to stop offering Euthanasia and they refused. At least that's what I've seen reported.

Possibly of interest to some here, Pope F is allegedly considering lifting the excommunication on Martin Luther in a few weeks.

Then he needs to drop it on that Belgian hospital.

394 "What creeps me out is watching any of the newer, British crime shows and the police are always going "let's check the CCTV cameras at such and such a location" and it leaves me with the impression that those LE security cams are in every public square and street in every town."

In London definitely, and in most of the larger British towns they ARE in every public square and street - the UK has spent billions of pounds implementing the system.

BUT in so doing, they have run into the self-defeating limitations of that system. In order to pay for it, they had to cut the money spent on actual, on the ground security men. And now, there is so much information being observed every minute of the day that there is no way that human eyes can ever review more than a tiny fraction of it.

So it is has become the system that monitors security, but does nothing about it, and its only real use is that after a crime happens, someone can go back a day or so later, call up the data and try to figure out what happened - if they get it before it gets erased, because you're looking at terabytes of data being generated every day.

It's a system that makes the government look like they're being proactive and "doing something", while in fact it has not done a damned thing to help an actual victim of a crime, ever. How could it???

421 We are doing by legal ambiguity what the Brits are doing by internet and direct surveillance.

Ads on the NYC Subways: "Report all incidents of bias to the NYS Bias hotline!"

No mention if this employment discrimination, or some "Hate Crime" of actual violence, just "report incidents of bias" to our friendly neighborhood government officials.

The ambiguity of what is illegal, or to be "investigated" by our government is increasingly a straight jacket to avoid any word or gesture that counters the offical, multi culti, Diversity-above-all-values culture. And of course the conflation of "hate speech" (which is entirely ambiguous) with violence and illegality only puts this on steroids.

Yes, boys and girls, law enforcement is taking the position that if you are sitting inside your own house, doors shut, blinds drawn, and they use a thermal imaging device to see where you are in the house, that's not invading your privacy because you want cops to get shot don't you.

The relationship between the cops and new tech is troubling. They have in the past slowly adapted new tech and courts worked out where the line of privacy and rights vs expediency and benefit to society would lie. Sometimes they didn't get it right, but they had time to work it out.

Now new tech comes out so fast, the cops are adapting it and using it -- the hell with rights, this makes our job easier -- and the courts aren't having time to deal with each change in order any longer. Plus, the courts are not remotely as wise as they have been in the past.

I mean, sure, in sane world it would but in reality? If you say, excuse me, but the heat signature given off by my body while I am sitting in my own private residence cannot possibly be considered public just because you have a device that can see through wall for that is deemed YOU WANT COPS TO BE SHOT! THE COPS HAVE TO DO THIS SO THEY WON'T BE SHOT WHEN THEY DYNAMICALLY ENTER THE HOUSE!

Let me now yelp about cell phone "stingray" devices and how the FBI and local police would rather dismiss charges against no lie actual drug dealers than reveal to a court just how much information from randoms is captured and just what they do with it.

I think it was in Florida where a judge got pissed and demanded that the DAs office show up in his courtroom with documents about it and the FBI came in the night before and removed all the documents and then refused to turn them back over because we're the FBI and you have no jurisdiction over us.

453 "I know nothing of law... but wouldn't that fall under the area of police activities where they'd need to get some sort of warrant from a judge to do that?"

That question is what the entire Supreme Court cases are about. Traditional constitutionalists say "of course you can't look inside someones house just because you have new technology". Law enforcement types who love new tech argue "we're not actually going inside the house, so it's not a constitutional search."

In Kyllo vs. U.S., (2001) the SCOTUS held that this was indeed a search, and required a warrant. However, it was only a 5-4 decision, and the minority wrote a widely read dissent holding that this should NOT be considered a search. It would only take a 1 vote switch for that minority opinion to become a majority opinion in the future.

Is it something to do with baptism? I can understand the Presbyterian baptism, Baptist baptism and RCC baptism. But the Lutheran conception of baptism has always confused the heck out of me.

Same with their notion of free will. Luther was 'Calvinistic' in his outlook. Melancthon was Arminian. So Lutherans are kind of sort of non-committal about it.

And if a doctrine confuses the heck out of you, you are probably being heretical in some way.

Oh well. Good luck. Just remember "5 Solas" and you should be OK.

460 Yes, boys and girls, law enforcement is taking the position that if you are sitting inside your own house, doors shut, blinds drawn, and they use a thermal imaging device to see where you are in the house, that's not invading your privacy because you want cops to get shot don't you.

I vaguely recall some idiot judge that ruled a pervert taking upskirt photographs was doing nothing wrong because you have no expectation of privacy in public.

So even your clothes don't demark a private space.

479 That question is what the entire Supreme Court cases are about. Traditional constitutionalists say "of course you can't look inside someones house just because you have new technology". Law enforcement types who love new tech argue "we're not actually going inside the house, so it's not a constitutional search."

Going long on lead wall linings.

Posted by: Under Fire at September 14, 2017 12:55 PM (mcI77)

480 I read about tech in the past that they tested out which was able to read cathode rays through the walls and hence see what was on your TV or computer screen without being in the room.

Van Eck phreaking.

Want to know another fun one? Every time you turn on something that draws power from the grid, it makes a sort of signature power spike. How many amps, how fast, all that sort of thing. So by watching your house's power draw carefully, they know exactly what appliances you're using at exactly what time. Grow lights, TVs, microwaves, everything.

Thermal imaging isn't comic book x-ray vision that can magically see through walls. If the house was cool you might be able to see if someone is standing right at a window, which does seem useful if they're serving a warrant. They can know to avoid the sight line that might get them ambushed.

There was a case involving the use of thermal imaging to see what houses they passed were giving off very large amounts of heat which helped them track down growhouses. Not looking inside but simply seeing how much heat is escaping the house. Even that somewhat innocuous use was struck down

3. Full House: Hillarity ensues when a miscommunication between (Housemate 1) and (Housemate 2) leads to disaster and ends with warmth and love.

4. Cheers: Hillarity ensues when (any one of the bar members) tries his/her hand at escaping their humdrum bar life through a (new job/new relationship).
