Reed College Cancels Lectures on the Evolution of Civilization After SJWs Protest and Disrupt Them for Being Too Eurocentric

Guilty as charged: the study of the evolution of Western civilization is going to be a bit Eurocentric, and a bit Hellenocentric and Itallocentric too.

Well-spotted, Geniuses.

By the way, the opening lectures are about the Epic of Gilgamesh -- which is Sumerian/Babylonian, not really "European," thought I suppose for the Social Justice Warriors, who are arrogantly ignorant, such distinctions are just Dumb Facts of the White Devil Man.

9 On a related note, I just read that the Fed has declared that wages rose to the maximum levels ever recorded in 2016 and get this, white people are not on the top, Asians as a group had the highest income levels in 2016.

But I guess they are not a minority any longer according to the left.

My biggest thing is, they are not being taught how to think or reason out anything. They are not being taught how to problem solve. Not being taught how to find the answers to anything. They dismiss the library as a bunch of stuff written by white guys.

The triumph of western civilization was not just in what it learned or what it did with that knowledge, but in how it developed a system to discover anything/everything. How to reason, how to reproduce your findings.

They are destroying the light of the world.

58 This is a bigger deal than most people think. That Reed course is considered a model course for teaching the foundations of modern society, not merely Western society. Reed is also famous for how hippie dippie they handle disputes.

That the Reed professors said enough we will not teach this if you sit there with a sign that we are racists is very significant. These are people who are talking back and saying no, no, you will not call me something that is vile without consequences.

It's also interesting that this isn't a formal cancellation, per se, but rather professors saying that they will not resume until their right to teach unimpeded is respected.

This is pushback. Particularly since nearly half the kids showed up to listen to the professor anyway.

Welcome to polite pushback. Let us hope it stays that way.

Question for the Horde: do you think woman can learn to become dykes? Mrs. Guevara thinks women are hard-wired one way or the other, but I kinda doubt that. I did the math not so long ago. Skip college, take a job making 120% of minimum wage. The college student will have most likely five years of no earnings, tuition and book cost, a costly student loan, then interest payments on top.

Result: $500,000 advantage to person who skips college. Not to say the college student might someday get that 500k back, and more. But it's like business majors vs. doctors. In the long run the Dr probably makes more. But it's gonna take him a long, long time to catch up.

There's been studies about this. Men appear to be either straight or gay, based on what physically arouses them. The notion of "bisexual man" probably doesn't exist, although they there are those who disagree with the results.

Women are totally different. Male and female sexuality went down different evolutionary paths. Different things were selected for.

The results tend to make people mad, and you can read it all and decide what you make of it yourself. There are evolutionary pyschology theories about this and that's hotly debated as well.

92 There's been studies about this. Men appear to be either straight or gay, based on what physically arouses them. The notion of "bisexual man" probably doesn't exist, although they there are those who disagree with the results.

Women are totally different. Male and female sexuality went down different evolutionary paths. Different things were selected for.

Imagine being so stupid that you don't realize that every culture has appropriated from other cultures.

Imagine that you are so stupid you can't even imagine that you don't know that cultures are subject to the same forces of evolution as biological life.
And that the implication of that is, the extinction and elimination of a culture is not because it was a better culture.

But, you'd have to know more about evolution than "I saw a movie that made Christians look dumb 'cause they were against evolution. Christians are dumb."

115 >> Thanks. That was my impression.

The most controversial thing is physical arousal studies. There's devices you can hook up to measure *physical* sexual arousal. Now, you take a group of women. They will show the same arousal to nekkid women as the do nekkid men, displayed in sexual contexts.

WIth men, they will either respond to the nekkid women and not the men, or a small number will respond to the nekkid me. None appear to respond to both.

The idea is to measure what actually happens, not what someone says happens.

And you can see where the controvery will kick in. Of late, there appears to be evidence that this physical arousal in women is actually some sort of "defensive" mechanism, and does actually diverge from what really mentally arouses the women.

They can show women videos of monkies having sex and the same physical arousal occurs. Obviously they are not attracted to monkeys in large numbers.

The theory is that the notion of "consent" wasn't too big with our primative ancestors, and so when any sex was going on, it would be a good thing for gential arousal to take place, because she might be next.

Human sexuality is a very complex subject indeed.

172 35 The only time someone ever accused me of "cultural appropriation"
(for eating at a Mexican restaurant or something similarly stupid) I
said "Fair enough. It's wrong for me to like things other than my own
"culture". I will never eat here again. That will teach the owners a
lesson, too. Also, give me your cell phone -- YOU'RE appropriating MY
culture with it, and it offends me that you would so carelessly do it.
You've no right to it and no respect for the culture that spawned it. So
hand it over." That was the end of that conversation.

But rioting babies protesting what they're being taught is the end of civilization, East, West or Center.

That's not Eastern but it's an area of history that is humbling to consider given we're talking a civilization that was a few hundred years old and is now considered lost.

The Western Civilization 101 Course covers from the book of Genesis to John Locke.

Hillsdale, as a classical liberal arts college , has a required liberal core curriculum that all students must take during their first two years. No protests, no rioting. Take the classes and enter debates with your classmates and professors.

https://www.hillsdale.edu/academics/classical-liberal-arts-core/

People can send their brainwashed offspring to places like Reed or they can take charge early on in the kids education, providing a balance to the hate filled anti western dogma being taught in public schools and then end up with intelligent young adults when they enter college. And hopefully send them somewhere where they continue to engage and educate themselves.

Prevalence of Childhood Sexual Abuse among Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual People: A Meta-Analysis.

Xu Y1, Zheng Y.
Author information
Abstract
In order to determine the prevalence of childhood sexual abuse among gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals, we conducted a meta-analysis that compiled the results of 65 articles across 9 countries. The results revealed no significant difference in the prevalence of child sexual abuse between homosexual and bisexual people for both sexes. The prevalence of child sexual abuse among female sexual minorities was significantly higher than that among male sexual minorities. The lowest prevalence was found in South America, followed by Asia. The definition of child sexual abuse, dimension used to measure sexual orientation, year of data collection, and the mean age of participants at the time of assessment influenced the estimated prevalence of child sexual abuse. We conclude that many variables influence the reported prevalence of child sexual abuse among sexual minorities.
KEYWORDS:
child sexual abuse; procedural moderators; quantitative review; sample characteristics; sexual minorities

That someone is questioning that is a good sign because it shows that he has a questioning mind. The answer, of course, is that history is drenched in blood and white men are only a part, a small part, even, of that history.

Your response is very well put indeed.

It is sobering to ponder just how much history has been lost and how much there is out there buried under the sands and lying under water and lost in the jungles and forests that we may never find.

We are Ozymandias.

Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at September 12, 2017 03:53 PM (/qEW2)

I watch more sports than the next seven or eight people combined.

I have Tennis Channel for tennis. ESPN's tennis coverage is great, when they are showing the matches and not the talking heads pontificating about the matches. It's infuriating during the early rounds of the majors that ESPN has the rights to show because there are multiple very interesting matches going on but we're going to show you the panel talking about Serena Williams instead. Switching to the ESPN app to watch each match is great. But that's only a few tournaments a year. Tennis Channel shows everything else.

For NFL, there's NFL Network. Much more enjoyable and people who know what they are talking about.

For baseball, there's MLB Network and the same thing.

If you like hockey, there's the NHL Network and I'm sure there's something for soccer. NBA has NBA Network.

If you want a highlights show, FS1 has a couple of those.

The only shows on ESPN that haven't yet been duplicated are College Game Day and College Football Final. Give it a year, maybe two, and someone will come up with an alternative.

There's also NBC Sports Network and CBS Sports Network for all kinds of college sports and even curling on NBC.

Note that I haven't touched the online stuff.

The only times I need ESPN is to watch a game for which it paid coverage rights. That's it.

ESPN is a dead network unless management decides to do a mea culpa and rebrand back to hey let's talk about sports.

I guess I'm qualified to field this one.

One of my exes is now "married" to a chick.

And she was as hetero as can be when I was with her. As in, she really, really enjoyed the sex. A lot. With men. And I knew her boyfriend before me, who concurred. Later, long after me, she was engaged to a cad who cheated on her, and when she found out she had a complete mental breakdown, the end result of which apparently was she decided she was through wit de menfolk.

So I'd say the answer is yes.

296 That someone is questioning that is a good sign because it shows that he
has a questioning mind. The answer, of course, is that history is
drenched in blood and white men are only a part, a small part, even, of
that history.

This is something that really infuriates me. I went off on a tirade on Twitter after some dimwit leftist made a comment about white people blah blah blah most evil in history blah blah. Not only is that racially chauvinist (all you non-white people are merely victims of us all-powerful WHITE people), it's also utterly demeaning to victims of violence waged by NON-white aggressors. Ask the Chinese what they think about the Japanese. Ask the Tutsis what they think about the Hutus. Ask the Armenians what they think about the Turks. Ask the shi'a what they think about the sunni, and vice versa.

As AtC says, history is drenched in blood, and fyi: most of the world is not white. So-called "people of color" have been slaughtering each other in the name of religion, conquest, and racial superiority for millennia. White people have done it, too. But guess what: war is a HUMAN thing. It's not something that's determined by your race, or what country you hail from. History is MADE of conflict; great chunks of time broken up by the occasional world-shattering war. To pretend that such violence only came to be because of white people is frankly despicable. You're telling all those victims of history that they don't really matter, because they weren't killed by the RIGHT kind of warmongers.

It disgusts me.

Anyway, BRB, Genghis Khan just called and he is PISSED.

When do you go from being a grave robber to a scholar is a fascinating, and hilarious, question.

The late, lamented BFF was full blood Mohawk and when earnest people would tell her how peaceful the First Nations people were she would laugh her ass off.

I want like burning Paglia to write a book about the various and sundry sites she claims are signs of prior cultures, not just natural formations. I mean, I bet 80% of it is batshit but there's that 20% that won't be.

Thanks, Alexthechick. I am currently horrified by how much history is being buried deliberately. ISIS and the like blow up statues and governments erase pre-Islamic history. But our own public figures talk as if Christians contributed nothing to science, all America's innovators and inventors owe their successes to "the exploitation of brown bodies", and no one but Westerners ever killed other tribes and colonized their lands.

-The VAST majority of employers outside of the specifically political arena don't know anything about Hillsdale.
-And if your kids are going to be doing anything that requires a graduate degree, no employer will give damn about their undergraduate school.

RE: Indians

1) I don't much like treating human remains as suitable subjects for exhumation & public display.

Creeps me out. I don't care how old the corpse is, either. Take the burial goods if it serves a scientific purpose, but re-inter the bodies.

2) I posted the other night that I read a lot about the Indian wars in North America-- not inter-tribal warfare, Indian v. whites.

I noticed that the 'Net abounds with photos of white atrocities, but somehow photos & info about Indian atrocities against whites has gotten really hard to find! The Indians certainly held their own in that competition.

You'll have a hard time finding photos of slaughtered white families, but Wounded Knee? Everywhere! I have no problem whatever with reporting on white atrocities, but I think the impression created is that all the really bad stuff was done by one side only.

How about that butt picker. Good argument he is the best ever though I still think it's Federer.
Posted by: Jack Sock at September 12, 2017 04:11 PM (D0r5+)

Yes, Tennis Channel was showing all old women's matches during the US Open because ESPN has exclusive rights to the current year's US Open coverage.

Hey, Serena drives ratings. I can't stand women's tennis other than during the majors and even then it's more rooting for the underdog. But I respect that a channel wants to draw viewers and she does.

Bander punched the who is better Rafa or Federer button the other night and got subjected to a good 20 minutes on that.

Gah. Here's the thing. Sheer numbers say Federer and he won two more Slams this year at age 36. Here's the but. But Rafa owns him when they play head to head. Not only that, men's tennis right now has three of the top ten players of all time in active competition (when they aren't hurt) so Fed and Rafa not only had to beat each other they had to beat Djokovic too.

I think until Rafa gets his 20th Slam, and that's assuming Fed doesn't have his first, it has to be Federer. Numbers don't lie.

Posted by: andrew jarbacka at September 12, 2017 05:24 PM (DQdye)

369 The real objection to white American men is that we are the best warriors the world has ever seen. What makes us so good is that we value life to the point that we are very unwilling to die for our country and ideals - we are much more comfortable with our opponents dying for their countries and ideals.

Because of this everyone else realizes that they can never rule the world as long as we are around - so there is a general conspiracy to get rid of us by any means possible. Of course the irony in this is that white American men aren't particularly interested in ruling the world; example: what did we ask for in WWII? Enough ground to bury our dead.

Eventually the coalition united against us will royally fvck up and piss us off enough to do something about them. It will not work out well for them when that does happen.
