Steve Bannon on 60 Minutes: Hillary Clinton "Isn't Very Bright;" Maybe Jared Kushner Thought Firing Comey Was a Swell Idea

Three clips below.

In the first, Bannon says Hillary "isn't very bright," and then, when Charlie Rose attempts to get off that topic and ask about "ethno-nationalism," Bannon rejects ethno-nationalism but champions economic nationalism, stressing that there is no "ethno" in the question about whether you're an American citizen or not.

In the second clip, Bannon says "the media has reported" that he vehemently objected to firing James Comey, though he won't confirm that -- he just says the media has confirmed it. He also won't say if it's true, as the media has also reported, that Jared Kushner was a booster of the idea of firing Comey.

He calls the firing of Comey one of the biggest political mistakes in the modern age, given that it led to the Mueller investigation.

The last clip, via Breitbart news, has Bannon calling Bush's foreign policy team "the geniuses" -- meaning that sarcastically -- and saying he holds them "in contempt, in complete contempt."

15 Not firing Comey Day 1 was a mistake. I get the reasons why it took a while.

But, clearly, it led directly to the Special Counsel and Special Counsel is causing trouble. It affects US diplomacy with Russia in all areas.

So, from that standpoint, a mistake.

Still needed to be done.

Posted by: blaster at September 11, 2017 02:32 PM (IB/XH)

16 Firing Comey was Trump's prerogative and DID NOT lead to the appointment of the special counsel. Sessions and his boneheaded recusal did that.

Posted by: Random thought generator at September 11, 2017 02:33 PM (1EwqP)

17 Firing Comey was the right and proper move. The poor move was lending any dignity to the event. President Trump should have come out and said," the guy was a political hack and I had a bigly lack of trust in his integrity and judgement. Comey did not serve the American people, nor the Constitution and so I demanded that he vacate the office of Director of the FBI immediately".

69 From the last thread:
Why, no, no, I'm not a huge proponent of the Internet of Things, why do you ask?

Here's a not so minor example. If I was aware, I had forgotten that you must pay Tesla extra money to unlock the software so that your car will have an extended range. Don't ask me the details because I don't quite understand it but apparently the normal software has some built in range limiting. Tesla very kindly announced it was upgrading everyone in the path of Irma so they could have the extended range.

What is to stop Tesla from going in and simply turning off everyone's cars? There are already systems in place at the buy here pay here auto dealerships that if you don't pay, then can make it impossible to start your car.

You want to trust your ability to drive to a piece of connected software? Because I don't.

71 It's true that Bush's people made a number of unforced errors--accepting Tenant's 'slam-dunk' appraisal of the presence of Iraqi WMD stands out, as does Donald Rumsfield's 'light footprint' approach. And then, of course, there was the decision to rid the Iraqi Army of its most experienced officers in that ill-fated anti-Baathist purge. The list goes on--but doesn't the list always go on when you're talking about warfare?

There isn't a war in the history books that doesn't showcase a comedy of errors. As I've come to understand it, winning wars usually consists of making less spectacularly bad decisions than the other guy.

77 I liked Andrew Breitbart, but not what became of the media that now bears his name. So I didn't know a thing about this Bannon guy before he entered the Trump White House. But if he thinks firing Comey was the biggest mistake in modern political history; then he's an idiot.

Even if you believe modern history began on the day of Trump's inauguration and that anything that enabled Mueller to launch his investigation was a mistake, which I'll accept. Then the biggest mistake is appointing Jeff Sessions AG, so the former GOP Senator could revert to norm and rollover for Democrats, thus allowing for the Deputy AG to use his acting authority to appoint Mueller Special Prosecutor.

Democrat Presidents pick AG's that fight on their side using every means necessary to achieve the ends they seek. Republicans need to learn this. Not because I want the DOJ to be politicized and its authority abused, but because it is and the only way to stop it is to have an AG tougher than it. Jeff Sessions is not that AG. Compare to Reno, who had no problem burning children alive, or Lynch, who had no problem publically showing her willingness to have private meetings with suspects and tell the American people its none of their business what she does. And lets not forget Holder being held in contempt after giving firearms to Mexican gangs and drug lords in a half-baked schemed to indict the 2nd Amendment. Jeff Sessions, "You want me to recuse myself for a BS reason? Ok, done!"

90 There isn't a war in the history books that doesn't showcase a comedy of errors.

Exactly. "This x1000" as the kids put it. Seriously, if you look over any war, even the "good wars" that we won clearly, there is just a series of ghastly stupid mistakes, poor choices, bad decisions and costly miscalculations. WW2 is full of them, several of the worst fights are because of stupid decisions. The first commando raid was a godawful slaughter.

Its just that this time, the press was if not in league with the enemy, at least hostile to our side, and there was so much information and coverage that everyone heard about it. Abu Ghraib as nothing and yet it was trumpeted for weeks, deliberately to motivate anger and opposition among the Iraqi population. It was straight up constant treason that still makes me grit my teeth and think distinctly unChristian thoughts about certain people.

Brilliant.
This is the crap I bang on about, I know. But he just took White Nationalism & changed it. So people can begin saying it is NOT white nationalism, it is Economic Nationalism. Take the word back, just like we took Fake news.

Will the GOPe catch on? B/c the media won't use it until pushed.

Damn, it was brilliant. Perfect New Party platform, btw.

I found it interesting he said the Dems get it & are trying to get identity politics out of their party.

I had never considered the new party as having Dems in it. But if their party is sinking, and they are old school Dems, maybe happens. Actually, it is perfect strategy. B/c that gives old school Libs more incentive to jump to a new party.

Then, in a election, you aren't dividing the vote between 2 right wing parties. Oh yes, this is very smart.

Smart for the country.

Just crystal ballin'. But it's nice to be jazzed about something, instead of bummed. To see there are long term plans, not just reactions to daily battles. Ya gotta have long term strategy to win the war.

167 "She's not very bright...she doesn't have a grasp on what's important and what's not."
--------------------------------
I liked that he qualified the statement.
Saying that Hillary is not "bright" may be true, but it entirely depends on what you mean by the word "bright."

Hillary undoubtedly has a high IQ and had very good SAT scores. A non-legacy girl simply didn't get admitted to Wellesley back in her day without sterling academic credentials. And she excelled there at a time when grades actually meant something.

But there are plenty of people who are school-smart who are not "bright" in other ways --- and Hillary is a textbook case for this. She has been a manifest failure at every single job at which she has been entrusted. It really is extraordinary.

Yeah, no softball questions *there*, you can be sure, from the longtime spouse of Garry "Doonesbury" Trudeau, and sponsor of every liberal cause celebre for the last forty years.

Among other things, Felonia said that she had found Trump's inaugural address, which she had attended, to be "a cry from the white nationalist gut".

At this, Pauley nodded gravely, while wearing her well practiced face of deep personal concern. From what wellsprings of inner spiritual strength were you able to endure this terrible ordeal, Madame Secretary?

Something that'll never happen, but which would be great fun, would be to hand Her Nibs a highlighter, and a printed transcript of Trump's inaugural address, and ask her to pick out specifically the passages which she considered to be a white nationalist "cry from the gut".

Fucking THIS. I was watching Steyn on Tucker talking about Hillary blaming Bernie, Macedonians, etc. etc., and the loop clip they had on was Bernie speaking on Hillz' behalf. It's like the "BALLOONS!" flesh-puppet display, but more sustained and probably even creepier. She is clearly bending every stray brain cell to try to imagine what Bernie feels and means her to feel, because she has NO. IDEA. Not on an emotional level.

He's not malignant and he's very bright and does and works hard or anything but he can be clueless and very self involved. So, I thought How can I irritate him This is what I came up with . Write several e-mails saying absolutely erroneous things about the church such as :

We've baptized 50 people since I've been there.

We are receiving 20 new members next week.

Someone died and left the church $500, 000 dollars

I have been nominated to become Bishop.

All of which is untrue and so i wouldn't say it, but if he thought it was true it would irritate him because narcissists don't like too hear about anyone else successes.

I am also working on a book called "How to irritate your teen aside from just existing."

There's truth to that. For me it was not in this interview I saw it. It was in others & in pics. The nose is a giveaway.

I worked with a guy like that. He was a big drinker, but not a drunk. It didn't impair him. He was the smartest guy at the company; steered with a moral compass, was ethical, and never made other people feel bad about themselves. Nor did he yell & scream at people.

Big minus for giving the interview at all, because that allowed 60 Minutes to mess with the color saturation/lighting to make him look like a drunk on a 3 day bender. (Note how bright the orange curtains are behind Bannon compared to those same curtains behind Rose).

There's truth to that. For me it was not in this interview I saw
it. It was in others in pics. The nose is a giveaway.

I worked with a guy like that. He was a big drinker, but not a
drunk. It didn't impair him. He was the smartest guy at the company;
steered with a moral compass, was ethical, and never made other people
feel bad about themselves. Nor did he yell scream at people.

So, even if Bannon does drink a lot, doesn't mean he's an alcoholic, at least I hope not.

But I wish he would get those skin tags clipped. Distracting.
--

They messed with the video signal to make sure he came across as awful as possible.

Which doesn't mean he doesn't have any of those issues, they just made them seem much worse.

I hope Julie has been able to have a good life and I pray for her and for all those who lost someone that they will be able to get through today with a tiny tiny tiny bit of peace.

May God bless them.

And may God bless the families of all the first responders who were lost that day and in the days following.

Old Firm worked on several 9/11 fund cases including ones for firefighters and police officers who got sick afterwards. Every one of them is dead now.

into an inability to fully grasp the motivations of others or
accurately guess at their thinking. It also explains her inability to
perform even the most rudimentary retail politicking that entails
unrehearsed human interaction.

And arrogance, condescension.
Hillary thinks *we* are so very dumb we need her ideas on how the government can attend to our every need.

One of Hillary's bright ideas as a NY Senator?
She wanted to create a national/federal 800# and associated call center so that people who needed any sort of federal assistance could call it in order to reach the right person. Apparently she felt the American public was incapable of using a phonebook and/or the web to look up these magical, mysterious federal agency etc. contact numbers.

As for Comey's firing, he is wrong again. The problems are the lack of necessity of any special counsel being appointed, Mueller's appointment - he is Comey's mentor - and a lack of proper oversight and guidance of the investigation.

The cop stopped me to tell me I was going the wrong way down the alley (???) and to be more careful. Both times they were very friendly, professional, and decent to me.

The second time the guy kind of seemed to get the sense the whole thing was a fools errand and had to take another call, so he drove off.

That was an Obamaism. "Empathy" is the ability to feel for someone because you have experienced the same thing. It's a sharing of "passion." "Sympathy" where "sym" means "like," is feeling compassion, sorrow, or pity for the hardships that another person encounters.

The left throws out "empathy" instead of "sympathy" because the collective fucking Borg would all have the common experience.

Obama liked to run around talking about "moral empathy" which doesn't make sense at all.

405 Hillary did think women and all minoritys voting for her would get it done

It was a sound strategy: get minorities and a majority of women, plus some independents and you have enough to win. Another woman could possibly have done it, in another election cycle. But this cycle was about rage against a regime that had gone too far and had contempt for America, and she was incredibly unlikable and awful.

Just about every single check mark you can get against a candidate she ran down like a calculus teacher looking at my homework. Sickly, awful speaking voice, no connection with voters, lousy strategy, horrible slogan, unpleasant looking, etc

farcebook post from Oconee County, GA Sheriff's Department;

Realistically speaking, please be prepared to be without electricity
for a few days due to high winds and trees taking out utility lines.
You might even lose your internet connection, which probably scares you more than being without TV or air conditioning.

I don't know what you need to get by for a few days without power. You
should have a good idea of what you need and I hope you already have
it. If you have someone elderly in your family you take care of then
plan with them accordingly.
It is going to rain, hard. Trees will
fall. Up to 60mph winds will launch your porch furniture over into
your neighbors yard. Normally that would be hilarious, but his porch
furniture will launch into your yard too. Anything you don't want
launched should be put out of the wind.
It is hard for us to plan
ahead for what we call the "stupid factor". I don't know why, but it
seems that someone always wants to do something stupid no matter the
unique weather event. Try to avoid the stupid factor. Stupid makes
more work for us, EMTs and ER personnel. In fact, stupid is the reason
most of us have jobs. If you have stupid friends, avoid them until
the power comes back on. If YOU are the stupid one, then please sit
this one out and wait til an ice storm to come along before you
demonstrate your capabilities.

Right, people do not understand the term "nation building." It does not mean "rebuilding a war-torn nation after you win." That's just what we do as a generous, powerful, and wealthy people.

What "nation building" means is "go into a country to fix it" like Kosovo or Somalia (or Syria or North Korea would be). That's stupid, wrong, and doomed to failure and ignominy.

One is invading a nation because of just cause for war, then repairing the damage we did. The other is just showing up to fix things because we know better and are so great. Its arrogant, stupid, and doomed to failure.

Trump seems to be trying to straddle a drain the swamp and a don't drain the swamp strategy.

425 Anti trust laws were meant to address things like in the 19th century, where a group of, say, milk producers agreed to undersell the competition, and when they were put out of business, gouge the customers.

In these days we have a similar situation. We have these huge corporations that we have built up, and now they are destroying us, ideologically, and through bribing our representatives.

There is a difference. If you control basic necessities of life, like food, people are forced to deal with you. But what about these de facto monopolies, like Miss America, Star Trek, FB, Twitter, YT, Amazon, ESPN, etc. etc. These are not basic necessities. They can easily be dispensed with or replaced with something else.

One of the funniest things in 'Shattered' is when she admits to a confidante that there's something going on out there with the electorate but she just can't wrap her head around it. But she'll be the bestest president ever!

464 Bannon to Rose:

You have no idea just how dumb I think you are. Even if you're smarter
than how dumb I think you are, you're still dumber than you think I
think you are.

465 441---That's really weak evidence. There is no data on her SAT scores, none on her IQ, and none on her GPA. Simply imputing it to her because she graduated a school is facile.

No, it isn't weak evidence. It's very, very strong.
I know what kind of credentials a non-legacy kid (with no great wealth) had to have to get into Wellesley back then.

Please remember that in 1965 most of the Ivy League schools were male-only. The best-and-brightest women went to the "seven sisters" and competition was fierce, especially for a Midewestern nobody.

I would add that she would not have been admitted to Yale Law without a good GPA and LSATs. Not in 1969.
And you couldn't get a good GPA at Wellesley just by breathing back then.

466 What I think people mean about Hillary is that she is "not related." She's a sociopath and doesn't see people as persons. She's evil incarnate. Bill was just a corrupt shit from a corrupt shit town who was smart enough to get away with it and was amoral to boot. He knew right from wrong but enjoyed the game. She has no self awareness and is utterly unrelated. She isn't as related as an autistic.

I seriously wonder if Robby Mook is on the spectrum for autism. He was obsessed with his analytics to the exclusion of all else. His numbers were all that mattered. He was incapable of factoring in anything else that was going on with the campaign. It says a lot about Hillary that she chose him as the best person to run her campaign.

467 "The myth of the boomers being a left-wing generation is just that --- a myth created and driven by the media."

So the massive leftward shift in this country since they took power is... a coincidence? An accident? Some black magic made policy shift everywhere, despite their solid opposition and control of the levers of power in legislatures, schools, courts, and executives?

Nope.

468 Well just watched part of interview, couldn't sit through the whole thing. CR, as someone said, didn't "interview Bannon, he just wanted Bannon to agree w/ his opinions on things. Crappy excuse for a "reporter".

469 I'm not a white supremacist but I am white. Most of me anyway. The percentage not white is Cherokee. It's a tribal thing. And in spite of the best efforts of ubama and the left, I am not a racist. Not because I'm better than that, but mostly because ubama and the left have that market cornered.

[BR]

In their youth, sadly the Boomers WERE a leftward force. However, they have wised up as they aged, certainly more than the Silent Generation that preceeded them.

To our credit, I think we in Generation X have been mostly Right from the get go. 8-)

471 Over half this country decided they were against Iraq and we left in 2011. Although it took more than 16 months as Obama promised and then he sent them back in. Trump also said we should get out of Iraq, but for the election said he would defeat ISIS in 6 months and we would not stay. But it's been 9 months and ISIS is not defeated and our troops are still there with more headed for Afghanistan.

472 460 I honestly don't believe Trump would have won had Bannon not been involved.

Agreed.
