Rep. Nunes Threatens to Hold AG Sessions, FBI Head Wray in Contempt If They Do Not Produce Documents Related to FBI Investigation Into Fusion GPS' Pee Party Dossier

I don't know why Sessions, in particular, is stonewalling; I assume the actual stonewalling is being done by his inferiors.

However, by allowing his inferiors to stonewall, he's complicit.

Turn the documents over. This whole bunch of nonsense produced a special counsel; the public has a right to know how this particular sausage was actually made.

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes lashed out at Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week in a letter where he threatened Sessions with a public grilling if he doesn't produce documents about the Russia dossier to the House intelligence committee.

Nunes, who despite stepping aside from directing the House Russia investigation has been leading his own separate investigation, accused Sessions and the FBI of stonewalling him repeatedly in a September 1 letter obtained by CNN. In the letter, he threatened to drag Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray before the committee for a public grilling and hold them in contempt of Congress -- a jailable offense -- if they don't hand over the documents.

...

"If all responsive documents are not produced by the revised deadline, the Attorney General and Director of the FBI (Christopher Wray) shall appear before the committee at 9 a.m. on September 14, 2017 in room HVC-210 of the US Capitol during an open hearing, to explain under oath DOJ's and FBI's unwillingness or inability to comply in full with the subpoenas issued on August 24," Nunes wrote.

Unfortunately Nunes is the only representative signing the letter -- which indicates the rest of the committee isn't in favor of this.

Why are they cooperating in hiding information? I thought this was so important that we must know everything about it.

6 We know that Scankles was behind that FBI corruption and was being protected by a corrupt Obama DOJ. Is Sessions afraid that his FBI will be draastically purged by the RNCe or possibly the RNCe was also complicit in that Fusion mess. The RNCe has always hated Trump. My guess RE: GOPe:

"Oh crap. If the Fusion GPS stuff comes out, they'll see that we actively participated in the Russian Dossier against Trump, and that might possibly hurt our chances for re-election."
You want things to stay hidden when YOU'RE personally involved and could be harmed by the information being revealed.

40 We don't even know what questions to ask, because we know very little of the specifics of what's going on behind closed doors.

I mean, yeah, we can intuit a lot about political gamesmanship and bullcrap stories to that end, but this could easily be about protecting the useless careers of people who did dumb crap in their official capacities, like agreeing to fund political hit jobs through a law enforcement agency.

There's been so much corruption and dishonesty that no one trusts, and that lack of trust extends *within* the agencies in question, not just from the outside. Nobody's playing it straight, and actually *doing* something about the problem requires someone to do that.

This is one reason my commenting has dropped off. I can't afford the cortisol poisoning that comes from worrying to death over problems I not only don't have any authority over, but in fact have only the vaguest idea of why they're happening.

I mean, sure, the Fusion GPS thing was political targeting during a campaign. The FBI's response may have been blackmail or careerism or incompetence or partisanship or a directive from elsewhere, or some combination thereof.

64 It started during the primary by backers of Jeb Bush. Once Trump was the nominee, Democrats picked it up and ran with it. Problem is they new it was baseless and brought it to the FBI as a tactic to give it legs. In other words they used the FBI and DoJ to pursue an issue the new was false. Which is a crime.

Somewhere in there I believe McCain was also involved with the FBI.

85 OK. Who left the door open?

Posted by: Marcus T at September 06, 2017 03:05 PM (9xpg1)

86 Think this through. The whole point is that the 'Russia' narrative got so politicized that Dems wanted to claim Trump 'obstructed' the Russia case by firing Comey. To get rid of the idea that the whole thing is politically motivated, play the stall game.

That is what DOJ/FBI is doing. By 'stalling' or delaying handing over documents, Congress gets testy and makes demands and subpoenas people. Thus, taking away from the idea that Trump is 'obstructing' and Sessions is playing along with it all.

Also, if the dossier falls under Mueller's jurisdiction, make HIM the bad guy in all of this. Make HIM out to be the partisan one trying to hide evidence from Congress. Or out the bad guys at the FBI.

I am 100% believing this whole thing will result in a bad outcome for Democrats and swamp creatures. After watching Sessions yesterday and his announcement about the rule of law and following the Constitution, do you really think he is the kind of person who would hide documents from Congress and avoid the truth coming out?

We ALL know the dossier is crap. The question is who funded it and why? It will not end up with Sessions connected to it or Wray, for heaven's sake, not even Rosenstein. This is about Fusion GPS, the DNC, and even RNC swamp. And now they are demanding that the swamp be drained themselves? GREAT.

This is all good news.

102 "And now with the Harvey-Debt ceiling agreement Trump just made with Democrats, The Republican Clown Circus is on Notice. Two hours after Ryan called that deal a non starter."

It's obnoxious to see Trump putting on his hail-fellow-well-met act with Schumer and Pelosi. Or as he's affectionately calling them today, "Chuck" and "Nancy".

But what's the alternative? Trump simply has to start undercutting and working around Ryan and McConnell at every opportunity. Diminish their perceived authority. Reduce their stature.

Short-sheet middle-tier members of the GOP caucus on things like infrastructure pork. When they bitch, and they will, Trump should shrug and say, hey, if only you guys had *different leaders* in the House and Senate Republican caucuses, you'd do better out of the deal cutting.

false. Which is a crime.

Somewhere in there I believe McCain was also involved with the FBI.

Couple of observations. This has taken down others, notably megachurch pastor Marc Driscoll (Mars Hill, Seattle). Why do they do it, knowing that in the digital f*cking age this stuff is very easy to detect?

Also I find an odd triangularity. Obama's pastor was a racist pig, but he is never called out for that. Hillary's pastor is a plagiarist, yet he is being called out on that (though it seems like a lesser offense than being a racist pig) by CNN no less. MLK was the anti-race baiter, but he was a plagiarist and was never really called out on it.

So far we've got one mediocre statement from Trump/Sessions, which alludes to actually important things (like enforcing/reforming immigration law), but only alludes to it. One incredibly tepid and sad little statement from one of the only members of Congress worth anything (Sen. Cotton) in which he meekly alludes to 1/3 of the immigration agenda as being a precurson/pre-condition to "dreamer" amnesty. And one horribly artless tweet from Trump last night.

Meanwhile, the glorious GOP-controlled Congress ...... prepares continuing resolutions, for the 9th cycle. It being so difficult for the absolute dictatorship that is the House to restore regular order to appropriations.

(rhetorical questions follow)

Does the WH actually have a legislative liaison office any more? Does anyone there have any understanding of the mechanics or politics of, um, politics?

Do Trump and team really think that the muddled disastrously unsatisfying mess they're presiding over WRT congressional action on key agenda items will somehow translate into lots of primary evictions of GOPers, and Trump-state Dem incumbent senators? I'd love to see the flow chart on this.

I agree that McCain does not act like a person , at 80, going through chemo. I read that he was flying to Washington recently. I am far from 80 and I went through chemo and radiation last year. The chemo was bad enough but the radiation was worse. There is no way I could have flown anywhere. And since I followed those treatments with an aneurism and then brain surgery and a burst aeorta, I feel my experience was similar to his. He might be trying for attention, but if he is, that's really low. Unless, of course, being a senator gives a person super powers, if so, I can understand why people are willing and eager to raise millions of dollars to get a job that pays $177,000 a year.

This means she's opening herself up to an examination/analysis of those assertions. I want to see a debate on the claims in the book between Hillary Clinton and Dinesh D'Souza. I would really, really love to see that.

205 I'll give Sessions a lot more time to show that he is indeed with Trump on draining the swamp because

(1) public corruption cases take a long time to develop, especially with the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard of proof--look at Menendez, charged 2 years ago after prolly 2 years of investigation and trial just starting

(2) Sessions took over a corrupted and weaponized DOJ chock full of dishonest, agenda driven Obots and Sessions needs to find out who he can trust and the Senate is holding up many of Trump's nominees [Like that asshole Schumer with the new NY US Attorney]

(3)Remember the Sessions confirmation hearings? His "friends" in the Senate called him racist and other bad things and fought him so hard that you have to say why? Perhaps because they feared his morals and respect for the Rule of Law?

(4) Grand Juries are secret proceedings, generally do not leak at all, and there may very well be some that are already empaneled and taking evidence. There are surely some white hats in government with lots of knowledge of wrongdoing and they are obviously not going to the pressholes with their stories. Whether they are talking to Sessions and the good guys, I don't know but I would not be surprised if they were.

(5) Sessions is not a grand stander and the type to go public for headlines on what he is doing in this regard. He will let the facts speak for themselves.

(6) Sessions, if he does so, will bring the collective hammer down, not with piecemeal prosecutorial announcements unless he thinks some "examples" will flip lower tier miscreants in other cases.

Bottom line is that I would give Sessions at least another year to go mediaeval on any public servants, elected or appointed, before bitching about him doing nothing. After that, I may start bitching.

Both the left AND the pseudo-right were using these shit slingers to control their competition...and when I use the word competition for the pseudo-right, I'm referring to those who threatened their positions, power and influence (aka, private citizen groups who were tired of the status quo). Their competition is NOT the left side of the aisle.

Any deluge of information from GPS Fusion is going to show the McCains of the Republican party just as eager to use their services as the left does. That doesn't even open up the can of worms of how many big names in the media are going to get a black eye for association and hiring of services of GPS Fusion.

Think of it this way...this is the Establishment's (Left/Right/Media) go to shit slinger and enforcer to keep the rubes and potential independent thinkers in line.
