The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"I want to know why antifa, black bloc, BLM, Women's March, and all of the other groups who love to brag about how 'love trumps hate' aren't down there in Houston slogging through the floodwater helping people. And also, why none of the crack reporters in the MSM are asking this question."

Our Media-Driven National Freak-out:

crisis fatigue.jpg

liberalism disease.jpg

Will Trigglypuff be a featured speaker?

fat affirmation.jpg

From here. (h/t The Patriarch Tree)

---------------

Well, let's see how the National Laughingstock covered the weekend riot in Berkeley:

Black-clad antifa members attack peaceful right-wing demonstrators in Berkeley.

Wait, what? That headline appeard in The National Laughingstock? Are you sure it wasn't the Washington Times or the Washington Examiner?

Their faces hidden behind black bandannas and hoodies, about 100 anarchists and antifa— “anti-fascist” — members barreled into a protest Sunday afternoon in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park.

Jumping over plastic and concrete barriers, the group melted into a larger crowd of around 2,000 that had marched peacefully throughout the sunny afternoon for a “Rally Against Hate” gathering.

I checked. It is indeed the National Laughingstock. Here is the link:

http://TheNationalLaughingstock.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/08/28/black-clad-antifa-attack-right-wing-demonstrators-in-berkeley/

So I'll bet the headline writer was immediately scheduled for some mandatory diversity training. Because democracy dies in darkness.

-------------

Quiz:

“Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts. The violent actions of people calling themselves antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.

Who made the above statement?

a) Donald Trump
b) Sherriff Clarke
c) GorillaPundit
d) Nancy Pelosi

The answer, believe it or not, is (d) Nancy Pelosi.

Pro tip to progressives: when you've lost Nancy Pelosi, your movement has pretty much screwed the pooch.

I would've paid good money to see this:

HOUSTON, TX—After Joel Osteen took a Bible verse out of context for the fifth time during his Sunday morning service, pastor John MacArthur reportedly launched himself out of his hidden perch in the rafters of Lakewood Church and elbow dropped the prosperity gospel preacher, knocking him out cold.

Fortunately, this incident was caught on camera:

osteen elbow drop.jpg

This was a few weeks ago. Lately, Osteen has been taking hits for closing his Houston church in the wake of Hurricane Harvey instead actually helping anybody, but he aims to change all that:

HOUSTON, TX—Although Joel Osteen took flak over the weekend for closing up his church to flood victims and all but disappearing during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the megachurch pastor reportedly returned to the city on his luxury yacht “S.S. Blessed” to make amends Tuesday by tossing copies of Your Best Life Now to stranded flood survivors.

Osteen is a con man who deserves to get it good and hard.

Abbot did become a paraplegic due to a tree falling on him while he was jogging. And he did sue the homeowner for negligence (tree was dead, apparently) and won $10M from insurance.

And none of that has nothing to do with Abbott's performance as a judge or as Gov.

I would love to see how they would react if 30 or 40 old rednecks with big potbellies signed up for their course.

He has gotten quite large, probably due to his legendary love of barbecued meat, covered with sauces and more spices than you've ever seen - that's guy will eat anything! But after the TIA, he couldn't even remember his own name for a day, and then they found that his blood pressure is super high - like 210 over 150 or something (and he's in his 50's) So doctors are telling him that he has just got to cut, cut cut out that food if he wants to live much longer.

Last I heard from his family, he's all pissed off because the hospital won't give him any salt to put on his hospital meals.

They won't admit it, of course, but it's why there was so much gushing in the media over how beautiful and glamorous Micheal was. She wasn't. Everyone could see she wasn't. But no one wanted to be the one to stop clapping first.

I don't care what you like, and I don't want you to care what I like. Your brain might not want a pink car, either, but that doesn't make you a horrible person. Neither does liking or not liking general, broadly-held common characteristics of X group. That doesn't make me a horrible person, though.

Racism is evil when it is acted upon. Otherwise, it's just loathsome.

My father was a bigot in the vein of Archie Bunker. He never acted on his bigotry, he hired and fired people based on performance. He was a US Navy vet, never graduated HS, worked his whole life, got into one bar fight as a young man and otherwise, never hurt anyone.

Antifa's entire existence is based upon using violence to silence the supposed evil of the day. In actuality, they are Marxists who are using violence to forward their ideology, using cover of fighting racism , or whatever SJW issue seems to work to continue silencing and frightening those in power to give up power.

So a bunch of Illinois Nazi's all standing around with signs proclaiming white power after they have obtained their legal permits and are standing in their designated protest areas are a hell of a lot less dangerous than the Antifa animals.

Most LIV liberals outsource their political thinking to "experts" who all happen to be far left wing zealots. Whatever show they watch on Comedy Central or NPR tells them Bernie-Socialism is the answer and they don't think about it any further then that.

If you ask them, for example, if they support a guaranteed minimum income they are likely to agree. If you ask them if they should pay twice (or more) the taxes they pay now they will deny that will happen. Why? Because John Oliver told them it won't. And he sited "studies" proving it man!

As said above, intelligence isn't a scalar. I had a friend in college who was a brilliant mathematician; he taught graduate courses in math at age 19.

Yet he barely spoke English (he was a red-headed, freckled, native-born and raised American). His speech consisted entirely of simple subject-verb-object sentences, much like a Dick and Jane reader. I used to call it the orthopedic shoes of speech.

We had a foreign language "fluency" requirement that entailed speaking with several native speakers for 20 minutes. He could barely do that in English, never mind anything else. He tried and tried, and couldn't pass it. Eventually the university waived the requirement for him, or he'd be there to this day.

What was the lesson of the Superdome during Katrina? The lesson was that it is insanely dangerous to invite a pile of freaked out people into some big empty space when you've got no utilities, no electricity, no sewage facilities, and especially NO SECURITY.

Now when you get those things set up then you can think about doing something for people, but if you haven't got it then it is just creating disaster to try and put on a show of "helping the needy".

Antifa and Block Bloc are still very strong in Europe, but I think one or all of your suppositions is correct. America is sliding down the primrose path, but we're not quite at the level Antifa needs to become a mainstream force. Everyone outside of liberal bubble zones views them as evil lunatics, and even some of the more well-to-do progressives seem the way a mobster might think of a complete psychopath- a mad dog who's "bad for business."

It's kind of hard to buy a $10 million house if you aren't a multi-millionaire.

216 And whatever happened to Occupy Wall Street? Sunk without trace, with all hands aboard.

Want to bet that there is substantial overlap between antifa and OWS participants?

FWIW, I read an account written (anonymously) by an early participant in OWS. He said the very earliest organizations and demonstrations were largely headed up by lefty white men. He said it went off the rails when women and minorities got involved. They lost their central purpose as the movement got overtaken by identity politics infighting and debates over the hierarchy of privilege.

217 "Heinlein's 5 levels of intelligence comes in here. These people are level 3s, people who actually can and do think, though they are often as dim as the rest outside their studies or laboratories. Level 3s, he says, are responsible for all the progress made in human history"

Nice...have read a few of his books. Will look into that.

218 Antifa served it's purpose, now it's causing harm. If they need it again, they can reactivate.

But until that happens, don't be surprised if a few antifa skulls get cracked the next time they act up.

222 Makes no sense to me. I work in the tech world.(programmers, db's, etc.)
I work with some VERY smart people. People that make me feel not so smart. Yet it is a Lib haven.
Bernie fans galore. I...just dont get it. How can you be that smart but so fucking dumb?
Posted by: lowfibass at August 30, 2017 11:36 AM (BrqlK)"

I have a feeling you're quite young. You're going to find out that the "book smart" people, like academics, and a lot of the "machine smart" people, like programmers and other techies, have an intelligence that only applies to their specific, chosen tasks, which they focus on exclusively.

When it comes to actual life, they are often miserable failures and know far less about people and how they work than your average janitor does. And especially with respect to Techies, Sheldon Cooper is not a stereotype, he's more of a role model.

I think they are very bright, but their empirical knowledge and experience of the world is limited. I think they reinforce each others opinions, and are not contradicted, or questioned in a reasonable way.
Confirmation bias; everyone they "know" that is a Trump supporter is "stupid". I was told by one bright young man last winter that Trump was "totally unqualified" to be President, yet Bernie Sanders was the ideal leader. He's been out in the real world, out of college and working, for four months, at that time.

Actual empirical knowledge of how the world works is time consuming and painful (at times) to accumulate. One of my bosses is quite a successful director and manager, is 61 years old (like me) and has a wide range of experiences in the world.
Democrat, voted for Hillary. Thinks Trump is an idiot. Is largely influenced by his upbringing (in South Carolina, motherly influence, Southern woman, hated Republicans) and his second wife (asshole Democrat) and his now third wife (Democrat, but not an asshole).
One of my other bosses is British, votes Labor, likes Jeremy Corbyn (echh!), and is also about my age (a little older), and is sometimes totally irrational about politics, but has persuaded himself he's right, with his superior intellect. British and all that, chum.

People persuade themselves they are right, regardless of what reality sometimes tells them.
Trump is ok, but is really kind of a jerk at times. I voted for him, sent him a lot of money last year. The other choice was Hillary, who is, frankly, a criminal.

The hardest part is keeping your eyes open, your mind open, especially when it comes to yourself. You are the easiest person that you can deceive.

"it is harder for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven than it is for a camel to pass through they eye of a needle...but with God, all things are possible" - stuff that Jesus Christ was supposed to have said.

224 Pelosi's statement makes sense when you figure how interlocked the democrats are, and that eventually some sane democrat would eventually break through to her. Since the RINOS get all their guiding instructions from the news, they don't have a secondary reality-based feedback loop.

225 "Call me cynical, but why have the cheerleaders of the Anti-fa movement suddenly reversed course?"

Polls. People don't want riots. Riots took out LBJ.

Democrats thought Trump would get the blame for the riots. They were wrong.

put it in the plate
and cover it with sawbucks

so God does work in mysterious ways......

234 Stop the crap. My family lost everything in the flood, our house, our cars and most of our belongings. Lakewood church took us and several hundred other Houstonians for shelter. We were provided a safe place to sleep, clothes, food, water and most other needs all donated by private citizens and sorted and distributed by volunteers, most Lackwood members. We even had a fully staffed volunteer clinic. I understand why people are cynical about the Osteens, but until you've done as much to help as they have you should shut your yap. You know, the mote in his eye versus the beam in yours.
