And the rocket belt, (Bell jet pack?) does work, within its limitations. Got used in a James Bond movie, it did.
And the shower-hood model has nice elbows, so there's that.

listen, I think it's incredibly sweet. But, I have limited experience myself so...I can only speak from my perspective that no, it wouldn't weird me out at all. But, I cannot speak for all women.
Honestly, the best way to get experience is just...to do it. I am not telling you to go out and bang random women. But...if you find someone, even someone you might not find attractive to kiss....do it. Even if you aren't totally sold on a woman...go on that date. Very few people have their first dates and first kisses and first others in the context of a meaningful life-long relationship.
On the other foot, to give you hope....I met a guy online about 8-10 years ago. He was in his 30s and had also never kissed a girl, and I offered to be his guinea pig. Kissing is fun. It wasn't romantic at all, but it was fun. Well, like a month later, I found out the guy had met a girl and had consummated said relationship. So...all it took was getting over that one hump I think.

I had a night last night. Me sainted mother, again. Friday afternoon, she got nauseated and started throwing up, then out the other end.
I thought it might've been something she ate, or maybe diverticulitis, which has flared up with her before. But around 10PM, she said her mouth was really dry. In the elderly, they can dehydrate fast, so I took her to the ER. She didn't want to drink much, so that just clinched it, of course.
Well, long story short, it turned out to be a kidney infection. And her BUN and creatine was getting to the danger point, so she was indeed getting dehydrated.
They put about a good bit of fluid in her via IV. I got her out at about 3AM. I was hungry, and the only thing open was a Waffle House. Went in there to get a take out.
And I'll tell you, at 3AM on a Friday night, there can be a rough crowd at the Waffle House. Some idiot was in there so stoned he could hardly walk.....

They gave her shot of morphine through the IV as well, and it was sort of funny. She soon said "I'll feel funny, [publius]." And then she got to slurring a little bit. And then said she felt a lot better.
You know how when someone gets a bit tipsy, there diction and word choice can get a bit odd, plus slight slurring of a word. Funny.
Oh, and then my father. When I got my mother back home, I was greeted with an odd sight. There dear old Dad was, lying on the couch in the den, in his boxers, but with a shirt on. Sound asleep, snoring.
When we left him, he was in bed in his pajamas. So, I was wondering. Something odd must have happened.
Well, in an Ambien induced stupor, he thought the phone rang. And it hadn't. Caller ID showed nothing. So he assumed it was something bad with her, and they were going to admit her, so he needed to get up to the hospital.
He was trying to put his clothes on and drive to the hospital. Luckily, he didn't make it and just passed out again on the couch. I shudder to think what would've happened if he managed to get in a vehicle and get started.
He's all right most of the time, but that Ambien can space him out.

They are always looking for volunteers to walk the dogs, feed the cats, help with fundraisers, do small repair jobs for the shelters-- male volunteers are welcomed with open arms (at least in the shelters I know), and as you say, conversation about pets is usually low-stress.

One of our dogs was adopted from a shelter which was the old women' shelter; they built a new women's shelter and gave the old one to the pets to be. The thing was built like Fort Knox. Find social activities that you can enjoy that put you in contact with women. I found that swing dancing works well if you're looking for a twenty to early thirties crowd.
Learn to make small talk. Art of Manliness has a good tutorial on this.
Be direct, but polite. "I'd love to buy you a cup of coffee." "Are you free on Saturday for lunch?"
As others have pointed out, working out helps you look and feel better. In addition, consider improving your wardrobe. Dressing well, being well groomed, all of that helps attract attention, and gives off the message that you have your shit together.
Remember that it's a numbers game. Ask, ask, ask.

A word of caution as a long-time bartender on meeting women/men in a bar.
If you do not normally enjoy going to bars, I would not really go this route. First off, you will obviously reek of desperation if you are in scoping the crowd rather than enjoying your drink.
Secondly, supposing you do meet a woman and do not particularly care for the bar scene, it will become tedious for you to continue to go to the bar with this woman once you begin dating.
I've watched many a relationship go sideways when the new beau suddenly decides he doesn't want his girl going to a bar or vice versa. You really have no right to expect someone to stop going out when that is where you find them.
I'm a bigger fan of meeting someone doing whatever it is you enjoy doing. If that's outdoor activities, join a hiking group and meet someone there. If it's coffee, hang at the coffee shop. If you like drinking, a bar is appropriate.
Just a thought anyway.

Thanks, changing up my patterns does make since. Two years back I joined local ski club, which is a blast, but unfortunately almost the entire membership is 50+. I also joined a coworking center to get out of my place, but most girls there are to young for me.
But it can be hard going to social events all alone. For example, there was a big event today for people in "Baltimore Social", an after work sports league I got the involved in from my coworking place. I didn't know anyone from my team going and was afraid of going alone and looking like some asshole standing around by myself with no one to talk to.

Get practice introducing yourself and making small talk. Not just with girls, but with guys. Then you're not the weirdo standing in the corner, but part of the group.
Don't dismiss the older crowd, as they may have friends or children closer to your age. Also, don't dismiss younger women simply because of the age barrier. Even if it's not long-term, you can still have fun.

Having worked in the trade, and now doing it only for myself, and select friends, I have to say the latter is way better. Biggest downer about being a mechanic? Most of your customers resent you. They resent the fact they need you, and many of them are sure you are going to screw them. It's soul-sucking, it is.
Today I laid some rust paint on the frame of a utility trailer I'm rehabbing for a friend, and then I worked on a golf cart I got in a horse-trade. Got reverse working, but it takes a major effort to throw the lever between forward and reverse. Also cleaned its little carbatooter, and ran the throttle cable direct to the throttle lever, bypassing the governor on the transaxle. It now runs really sweet, and can go both slower, and faster than it did before.

However, I'd also say that a lot depends on your attitude.
I have a female co-worker who is a few years older than I am (aka "not young. At all.") Both of us have never been married.
She is actively looking for a guy, and, to be honest, has mood swings and is incredibly temperamental. She is angry that she has never been married, and does not see how her behaviors could change things.
In a lot of ways, I'm the opposite. I don't mind being alone, and would rather be alone than be in a bad relationship. I'm not angry that I don't have someone, since it's probably my lack of effort that has caused that situation.
So... two people in the same situation.
One is angry and alienates men while trying to fix it.
The other is not angry, however, isn't trying to fix the situation.
Not sure if there's a moral here.

I have a very liberal co-worker at the crappy part time job who is 43. Girlfriend who he lives with seems like a SJW. He works part time, and, including unemployment, is probably making a bit above the poverty level for a single person.

My guess is that he's used to fighting MMA fighters who aren't as focused on these long drawn-out slugging matches. His training, even as a striker, would be to overwhelm them. The majority of his fights never went past the first round, and only one went past the second round.

Have you ever taken any of the MBTI personality tests?
Not only will they help you make sense of who you are (I realized in my mid 30's that when I speak, I use language in a complex way that can be difficult for some personality types) it will help you figure you who is a good choice for me. In fact, they'll tell you your best matches.
For example: I'm an introvert. I've dated both introverts and extroverts, but I would be happiest with either another introvert, or someone who is nominally an extrovert. I don't want to go to the bar/ a game/ some random social event, and I'd do best with someone who feels that same way.

I suspect that bitterness comes from:
1. Being liberal/ feminist
2. Not being particularly religious
3. Family pressures
I think liberal/feminist women are prone to bitterness, and that not having a trust in God's impacts them in a negative way.
Also... if your family has Expections for you that you do not meet, that can be problem too. If all your siblings are married and you're not, that could be difficult. And if your parents want you to be married and hound you about it, that might make things hard as well. Then there's the "OMG, I thnk I want a baby and it's past my time" feelings that might factor in as well.
I'm lucky. My parent's had very minimal expectations (don't come home pregnant/become an addict/go to jail) so that made it easy for me. Plus I'm an only child. I can also accept that God has a plan I don't understand.

Yes. THe Motion Picture Production Code. It was "voluntary". Now, believe it or not, the Supreme Court back sometime had ruled that the First Amendment did NOT apply to motion pictures.
So states and the feds were free to censor. THe pre-code movies caused a backlash. Some of them survive -- I remember one with Barbara Stanwyck.
Several states, including NY, had instituted censorship boards, and so Hollywood did it voluntarily with the Code to pre-empt that going national.
The Supreme Court overturned that decision decisively in the '50s. The Code kept up for a while, but it was gone by the '70s.

Oh, and I remember. I took some of these tests back in college. Something that blew me away (I wanted to be Mr. Spock at the time), was I scored off the charts high on "empathy".
I couldn't believe it and dismissed it. One of the elders, a psychologist, got to asking me questions. Yep, turned out it was a correct.
So, I'm really good at reading other people's emotions. Just about feel 'em myself, and it tends to be very exhausting trying to keep up, as was explained to me, which explained some things... I was like, wow man.
But I still don't care much for pyschology and all that as a rule.

My list of qualifications includes:
-don't mind being alone
- too independent for most men
-too self sufficient for most men
-really good at "logical arguments" which is really annoying, especially when the expected response is "cry."
-appears "smart"
Many apologies for that last one. I read a lot and have a good vocabulary, so I think there's times I really come across as an intellectual bitch. What's strange is that I work with a lot of people who are not educated at all, and I have no issues with them. However, if I'm working with someone who is a "supervisor" type who is insecure about his intelligence, he'll know right away that I know he's not smart, without me saying anything.

Seen it too many times to doubt it.
The most apparent changes? True deep, heartfelt, born again religious conversions, with accompanying long-term study of scripture.
And the #2 most radical change. Ex-smokers. Even more than confirmed AA quitters.
This isn't science, merely my observation.
I suspect that U.S. Military Boot Camp would effect similar changes, with the USMC being the most pronounced for effect.
Followed closely by a year or so of lurking, followed by a year or so of commenting, at the AoS ONT.

I have often thought that if I left my current profession I should be a forensic shrink tracking the psychopaths because thus far in 30 years in public service I have not encountered any crime that I haven't already thought of... and worse.

I don't want to be Dexter. I don't want to have anything in common with him.
I like to watch Forensic Files. Far too often I can accurately guess why a bad guy chose to strike at a certain time or place. It's not a coincidence.
I'm at a shopping mall parking lot and I see people oblivious to their surroundings and I think that if I was a bad guy what easy pickings they woud be and how I woud do it.
Of course I do not act. It is no less disturbing and upsetting.
