The backdrop to that famous battle is that the Army Brass at the time had little but contempt for Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, since they weren't Regular Army, and they also had very little use for Pershing's colored troops (as they were called in the day) So they ignored both of them most of the time and ended up letting them have an objective that the higher ups thought was going to be a pointless slaughter, so why waste good units on it?
And then Roosevelt and Pershing went and won the damn thing, and the news got splashed all across the country thanks to Hearst. That's how careers are born.
P.S. Once Teddy became President, he was able to promote his old pal Pershing ahead of all of the more senior army generals who had always hated both of them.

He got assigned to the hospice ward and got to know a guy who rode with Black Jack Pershing down to Mexico to try and kick some Pancho Villa a$$. That man had a sharp mind but a failing body and had some incredible stories to tell.

Similar experience when I was a young captain stationed at Ft Lewis in the early 80's. Met an old timer who was a very young private with Pershing while chasing Villa. His platoon leader was a young Patton. He had a great deal of respect for both and also had great stories.

There was at least one person hit by Fields car and thrown over the top of the parked car. I watched the video taken from the side and you can see it clearly.
I have no idea if that was her or not but it seems likely that whomever it was that was hit was at the least very badly hurt.

Here's the thing. At the moment of impact, the other two cars must have simultaneously lifted their feet from the brake peddles for the force to be transferred forward. Which strains the bounds of credibility.
I've seen and been in my share of wrecks. I know the body damage. This was a 10 mph collision. Now can a 10 mph collision propel someone to the pavement where they crack their head open? Yes.
But I just cannot see the other drivers ahead, sitting in a riot, feet *off* the brake peddle.

That being said, if he was the initial cause of the collision, he's likely criminally liable.
Let's strip this out of the riot context. Let's say you're going home after a busy day of playing with the Horde and avoiding work. You are stopped in traffic. There's a car in front of you. There's someone walking in front of the car in front of you.
Someone who is texting smacks into the back of your car at about 10-15 mph. It's just enough to slam your car forward so you hit the car in front of you and that car pins the person walking past between his car and the car in front of him. Due to crush injuries, that person dies.
You are not criminally liable because you are an incidental part of that chain. You didn't hit that car, your car was pushed into it through no volition of yours. Same with the car that actually hit the person. The person driving that car took no actions to strike the person, rather, they were hit. The person who caused the initial force is the one at fault.
Now, civilly? Everyone in that chain would be sued to hell and gone because if you weren't stopped so close to the car in front of you, that wouldn't have happened. But civil isn't criminal.

I cranked the wheel over, drove over the curb onto the center dividing strip. People looked at me as though I were crazy.
Just then there was mighty screeching of brakes as the oncoming guy laid rubber and stopped about a foot behind the guy who had been in front of me.
Now the people who had thought I was crazy smiled and nodded in respect.

Based on the fact that the impact forces were insufficient to bust open the radiator of the Challenger. No coolant on the ground.
At much more than ten miles per hour at impact, the rad usually gets crunched, and the vehicle will begin to visibly lose coolant right away.

Yes. On how to perform their jobs which sometimes means which laws are enforced or even which law violations are of any concern at all. Many laws are only enforced when the police are pissed about something else - for which a law doesn't apply or for having "their time wasted."
Often this is as basic as which sections of which streets traffic laws are enforced on. Other times it is left for the police to decide if they want to protect a statue of a former commissioner or some other random statue.

The left has been doggedly trying to "create" violence on the right by BEING violent on the left for a very long time now. With the media and hollywood supporting the vulgarity and violence.

Someone above estimated a 10mph crash from the front end damage. Look at the vid from the front, where the 2 cars get hit, and it appears to be a lot harder than a 10mph hit - the car that got hit directly takes significant rear damage.
In the video from the rear, you hear tire chirp right at the beginning. He accelerated hard well before the person closer to the crowd hit the car with a bat or something.

I think I've told this story before but whatever. Whenever I come up to a yellow light that's about to go red I check the rear view mirror to be sure the car behind me isn't assuming I'm going to run the light. It's amazing how many times as I'm hitting the brakes, the car behind me is speeding up.
One day I was coming to a light and there was a police car on the other side. I go to hit the brakes because I'm not going to run the light right in front of the cop and I look up to see that the guy behind me is not only speeding up but apparently had floored it.
I stepped on the gas and blew through a red light right in front of the cop. I glanced over and the cop was just shaking his head.

Every single time, and not because I worry about the person ahead of me. I saw a car that had stopped at an angle to cross through 70mph traffic get rear ended when I was a little kid. If he didn't almost have his nose poked into the lane he would've been fine. As it was, he was pushed into traffic. Horrific.
You wouldn't think it possible, but I saw another similar wreck as a teenager. This driver was pointed straight ahead, so he should've been fine. The problem was that he'd already turned his wheels into traffic. Similar 70+mph t-bone, then cars rear-ending the wreck.
It's frightening how casually people approach driving.

The traffic law in Texas is pretty simple; hit somebody from behind - its your fault. The reason they do that is so that nobody's insurance gets saturated in a chain collision - it spreads the liability out.

But the vehicle in question only has damage consistent with a 10 mph impact. You hit a brick wall, major damage. Wall doesn't budge. You hit something which will ease the impact - like a very lightweight car which then shoots forward - much less damage.
If it goes to trial, which I strongly suspect might never happen, it's going to be a nightmare of 'expert witnesses'.

Here's my driving story: I was stopped at a light. Looked in the mirror and it was becoming clearer by the second that whoever it was coming up behind me was not going to stop . I leaned on the horn, which apparently got whoever-it-was's attention at which point the car looked like it was plowing up asphalt trying to stop, which it did finally, complete with tire smoke.
Checking the mirror while stopped at a light is now SOP.

What I am an annoying driver about is that I caused an accident while turning left when I was teenager and I've been super paranoid about having enough room to make a turn into traffic ever since. I know I'm overly cautious and I try to be more aggressive when there are people behind me but still. I'm not planning on changing that though since I'd rather be yelled at and honked at and cursed at than hit.

I was stopped, behind another car that was stopped, waiting for the person in front of them to turn left. It was/or had been raining. Guy slams into me going about 50mph, I hit the car in front of me, they hit the car in front of them. So 4 cars (including the jamoke that started it all). I got whiplash (that has lasted me about fort....uh....a lot of years).
He claimed his breaks locked on the wet pavement. He was ticketed. I'm sure his insurance was none too happy either.

Honestly, I wish Trump didn't write this. Not because the sentiment isn't good, it is. And as someone who really digs the period between the mid 19th century and the mid 20th we can certainly learn a lot from Black Jack Pershing and the ward with the Moro Jihadis.
But this particular claim is just an urban legend cribbed off of chain emails. It's particularly naive because it involves ignoring the fact that Muslim terrorists were active throughout the Middle East, especially with the Wahhabi Ikhwan that are the prototype for the Muslim Brotherhood and AQ, and the Ottoman auxiliaries that answered the call to Jihad in 1914 and took part in the genocidal rampages in the region.
And that is what I think is the big issue I have. For one, it gives people false hope. If the Jihadis could be defeated so crushingly by using pig grease alone, they would have beenlong gone centuries ago. And it also indicates (rightfully or wrongly) Trump didn't research beyond the urban legend.
That said, I do like Trump.
And I would be more than game to see our troops use big grease coated bullets before going into battle, and maybe mix some pig guts in with the explosive package of bombs. If only because it might freak some of these monsters out.
Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Though to play devil's advocate: just because it features in his autobiography doesn't necessarily mean it was true. Though it certainly does make it that much more likely. But you nose around a lot of memoirs in general- and maybe military ones from this era in particular- and you get a fair bit of "creative Liscense." Ultimately I'll have to dig into Pershing's bit and this case to see if he was like that or not.

I remember in 78 being on the Mess Decks and watching two First Class Petty Officers explode into a full blown fist fight. 0-Punches in about two seconds. And watching the entire First Class section of the Mess Decks instantly separate into black and white crowds. Each itching for a fight.
Didn't understand it at the time, as I was a pretty junior Sailor, with very little fleet time.
But it was damn clear that the issue went far and beyond whatever the actual words or actions which caused the fight.
Only later did I realize that the racial animosity and tension had carried through the fleet.
