I think Identity Politics of all kinds are odious and poisonous to the individual -- if your value is your race or gender, well, you have branded yourself as someone of extraordinarily low value, haven't you?

But as John Sexton points out, you can't expect a culture to praise all sorts of Identity Politics -- flat-out racist groups and gender supremacists -- but say that one group doesn't get to play by the same rules.

Either it's all poisonous garbage, or it's all got something of merit to it.

I believe the former. But the media -- and the establishment right political class -- cannot continue with this incoherent claim that Identity Politics are permissible for e everyone except The One Group Which is Truly Odious and Cursed by God.

People will not accept that. No one will accept his subordination without a fight of some kind.

Tonight I watched Stephen Hayes accuse Mollie Hemingway of living in an "alternate reality" for pointing out, correctly, that we have -- and have had -- a serious problem with leftwing identity politics thugs for years, with an increasing tempo of violence. The most recent major event being the attempted assassination of a half-dozen Republican congressmen by a Bernie Sanders reporter.

This, Steven Hayes intoned, was an "alternate reality." There is no problem with leftist violence or tribalistic hate politics -- it's perfectly acceptable for them, and we should say nothing about it.

I guess you can play #FakeNews #PretendOpposition as long as a billionaire patron is paying your bills.

After he tires of his toy -- when he begins to realize he's paying for something with no influence or relevance -- who knows.

I guess it's on to CNN for Steve Hayes, then.

After the Scalise shooting -- which was like two months ago-- the media, including the #FakeNews #PretendConservatives, only seemed willing to talk about leftwing violence in an article equally condemning rightwing violence.

Now we have a situation of rightwing violence (and lots of antifa violence, too), but the #FakeConservatives now insist we can only talk about rightwing violence -- and cannot, as they themselves previously did, discuss right and left violence in context, as two things that reinforce each other.

Which is exactly the claim Rachel Maddow makes.

If the Weekly Standard now exists exclusively to parrot the claims made nightly on Rachel Maddow -- What is the point of you, exactly?

I think a lot of these shills have an Exit Strategy from the GOP planned, and I think it's time to hurry them to the door.

9 I had a job interview with a company in Charlottesville last week. I turned them down on Friday, both because I didn't like the work, and because I didn't want to live there. Over the past eight years I've started looking at the demographics of places where I might live. I hate to say it, but the left has decided that it's ok for blacks and latinos to harass/violate/rob/kill whites, and so I'd rather not live somewhere where there's a large mob to whip into a frenzy.

I don't like that I feel this way. I should feel worse that a young woman and two officers were killed. Sorry for the late response, called aware for Corgi puppy duty (and doody, I suppose).

I would say the former. Pastor is a self-depricating fellow and sort of prides himself, IMO, on his humility. He routinely reminds the congregation that we are simply there to study God's word together and to offer praise and worship. It is not uncommon for him to tell the congregation that if he is not keeping with Scripture to please pull him aside and let him know because Pastors are just people too.

It is also a CMA church, so I think the more arduous path to the pulpit than some other Protestant denominations has colored his style/outlook. I'd say he is more of a Pastor's Pastor in that his sermons lean more towards an academic look at Scripture rather than an emotional one. I once listened him debate another Baptist minister over coffee over whether a church could actually claim credit for baptizing anyone because it was his position that all a church could do is provide instruction and environment, but the Holy Spirit had to do the work of conversion.

I only tell you that as an illustration of what I believe shapes his outlook. I guess his issue with the Charismatic Movement is that it sort of emphasizes the role of the Pastor, the music, the activities, etc and thereby in some way deemphasizes the true focus on the Lord. That's my read, he might disagree.

We don't necessarily have a corporate devotional, but if there is one verse that seems to come up over and over that is the core of his perspective on the rightful place as a Christian it is Isaiah 66:2.

382 In the grand scheme of things, the organized civic tearing down of confederate monuments is no big thing to me. So, I'd be civilly against the rally on Sunday.

However, the people who organized the rally had a civil right to assemble and the protesters had a moral duty to keep it as protest.

Some of the pundits on the right have decried the rally participants sporting weapons and shields. I think shields are a strategic idea given the behavior of Auntie Fascists so far. And they didn't like the White Nationalists platooning out of busses with weapons and shields and riot gear.

However, they didn't platoon out of the busses with cars to run people over with. As the car was the only fatal "weapon", the fatality in this case--especially given that it was yet another meds-candidate--hardly seems to have anything to do with intentions of those at the rally.

I think it monumentally stupid to rate this incident not by the skirmish of weapons and shields but by a peripheral incident where somebody died in hazy circumstances--and also by cops that crashed their helicopter miles away.

But we are in a climate where nobody wants to weigh what is related to what. And now we have the butterfly effect media spin-typhoon trying to swamp all people who are trying reason out who deserves what condemnation.

It's funny that if we roll people in a ball, we can only roll so far. We have to roll all the right people into a ball to judge them. It showed the car moving slowly until someone hit it in the rear with a baseball bat. It sped up and went into the crowd and crashed into a car in front.

Then about a half dozen people attacked it in the rear with bats and clubs, smashing the rear window. The driver then threw it into reverse and floored it.

Pretty much what I would have done under the circumstances.

Then about a half dozen people attacked it in the rear with bats and
clubs, smashing the rear window. The driver then threw it into reverse
and floored it.

Pretty much what I would have done under the circumstances.

There was a video being pushed yesterday that starts right after the following happens on another more complete video I saw: before the kid accelerated he was being 'menaced' on both left and right by protesters, and was blocked from going forward by another stopped car, also being 'menaced'. Then one of the protesters uses a bat or a tire iron on the rear left panel of his car, behind his head so he can't see what happened. Less than a second later he's accelerating forward, then his car gets 'jumped' - kind of a citizen's arrest with bats and tire irons - and he backs up into some of these folks as well as others.

I would like to point out, though, that there is a difference between "identity politics" and "taking pride in your heritage". I think it's important to know your heritage and take pride in it. I approve of Americans of all races taking pride in their heritage while also taking pride in their American nationality.

No culture is perfect, but there's good and bad in everything. I, myself, am primarily of Cherokee (specifically, the Chickamauga clan, the most bloodthirsty of Cherokees who actually left the tribe so they could keep slaughtering white women and children, but then ironically ended up providing millions of white Americans with Indian ancestry), Viking (Danes who settled in England and got all gentrified and shit), and Jewish (Bavarian Ashkenazi) descent.

I've done my research on those cultures, and I'm aware of the good and bad details of them all. I can take pride in the good while accepting the bad.

I think this is the healthiest attitude you can have about your ancestry. You take the good, you take the bad; you take them both, and there you have the facts of life. The facts of life.

I'm proud to be an American, and I'm proud to have the sort of genetic mix that could only happen in the USA.

I get a really bad feeling from all that's transpired in the last 48 or so hours.
As utterly repugnant as the racist Vanguard America protestors are, I get this awful feeling that Virginia's governor _wanted_ this situation to explode.
It's just a feeling; but it's an awfully strong one.

I can't help but wonder if maybe Terry was _hoping_ that the racists would open fire on the fascist-anti-fas so that the whole thing could explode into a gun control issue.

After all, what better way to demonize gun ownership than for some evil, hotheaded, neo-Nazis to open fire with semi-automatic handguns and rifles on unarmed, 'peaceful counter-protestors'.

Is it true that the police were given a stand-down order as the vicious protestors (on both sides) began to tear into each other in fits and starts?
Is it true that once violence broke out the rally permit was immediately rescinded and that subsequently the greatly outnumbered neo-Nazis were corralled by the police (and National Guard) so that they were forced into what was essentially the fascist-anti-fa meat-grinder?
How could these be 'honest' mistakes made by the State government?
How could such decisions' explosive outcome not be easily predictable? INTENTIONAL, even???

717 Steve Hayes is owned by Bill Krisrol. Hayes looked ridiculous against Mollie Hemingway by suggesting that Trump somehow proved his racism by waiting two days to name the nazis, nationalists, kkk, etc. I believe Hayes exact words were that Trumps failure to mention the names right away "spoke volumes" about his true feelings. Horrible for Mr Hayes to suggest such an awful lie. I can't remember Hayes saying our previous President's refusal to call Terrorism by a specific name spoke volumes to HIS true feelings. It is an ugly thing when personal,politics and the horror of losing an election sends someone's character directly out the window. By the way, why does Fox continue to the hire the pundits who got the election wrong for months before and up until election night? Those pundit have no credibility, they got it wrong, and yet they still spew their incorrect opinions. It's infuriating.
