Immigrant Shouts "Allahu Akbar" As He Goes Into Stabbing Rampage in Hamburg Supermarket; No Known Motive, Say German Police

Sometimes I make up snark for headlines.

In this case, though, the headline's real; police say there is no known motive.

He just shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he went on a stabbing rampage, a tactic common to jihadis. Palestinians are still executing their own "Stabbing Intifada."

A knife-wielding man reportedly screamed "Allahu Akbar" during a wild attack inside a Hamburg supermarket that killed at least one person and left four others bloodied and wounded on Friday.
German police arrested the suspected attacker in the Barmbek district after witnesses followed the man and alerted authorities. The suspect was overwhelmed by passers-by and slightly injured in the process, police said.
The assailant entered the supermarket and stabbed one person, who died at the scene, before fleeing the scene. While on the run, the suspect stabbed and injured four other people.

Remember when I said this "no known motive" guy just happened to execute an attack style invented by Palestinians? Well, he's a known Palestinian Islamist.

Following the war of independence and the palestinian diaspora, not a single Gulf state gave the "Refugees" citizenship (nor did Syrua, Lebanon or Egypt). "Palestinian refugee" has become an hereditary stateless caste.

The ostensible intent was to preserve Palestinian culture by preventing assimilation, but that's pretty much an obvious cynicism. Most likely it was done to prevent resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

To be fair, a minority of Palestinians are actually ethnc Levantines. But given the fact that in the 19th century the place was over-run by Jordanians and Egyptians, and they thought of themselves as "Syrians" (because the Levant was known as simply "Syria" or "Greater Syria" in English or "Bilad Al Sham" in Arabic, until the Ottoman Empire split up), the whole Palestinian culture thing is a bit of a farce. Most of their important families are immigrants from Egypt of the Arabian peninsula, and their population genetics are indicate an arab-levantine mix (unlike, say, the Lebanese, who are pretty close to both Ashkenaz and Sephard..... )

The most accurate translation is

"Allah is superior."

Originally, when Islam was founded, "Allah" was viewed as a separate deity, distinct from the deities of other religions -- NOT as the "universal god" he is assumed to be today.

Back during the 2006 "Cedar Revolution" in Beirut, I posted a whole series of photos proving that the hubba-hubba "Lebanese Protest Babes" everyone was drooling over just happened to look EXACTLY like Minoan frescoes of dancing girls. From a principal component analysis, You can look at them either as the most Arab of the Levantines or the most Levantine of the Arabs. The principal component studies show overlap with both ethnic Syrians, Jordanians and Arabians, whereas the Lebanese, Druze and Jews are definitely closer to each other than to them. On the other hand, if you do hierarchical clustering, you are right: they are emerge firmly in the middle of the Bedouin/Saudi/Jordanian clade. My problem with the latter is that human populations don't really act like clades much, so ideas of "descent" are less ethnographically useful.

There is a very recent paper that demonstrates that Bronze age Philistines abd Jordanians cluster with Lebanese. They weren't wiped out, but they didn't give rise to Palestinians either: that's just a bad joke. From a Pop Gen POV, both Jews and Lebanese seem to be Canaanites (LOL).

I read one by Eric Cline...1177BC; The Year Civilization Collapsed. The main focus was more on why everything around the Med fell apart in a relatively short period of time, but it also touched on the whole phenomenon. Gave me a great appreciation on just how murky the details of ethnography can get.
