Lambeth Palace
Henry Pether

His father, Abraham Pether, and his brother, Sebastian Pether were also artists and known for their moonlit scenes.

Obviously it was a family of werewolves.

13 What a mysterious setting. The lighting is fantastic with the dominant moon, but then pinpoints of light on the left to counter it. I like the large, dark shape of the castle balancing out the small, bright shape of the moon. Also, who are the two men on the left (not the far left)? I imagine they are spies, smugglers or criminals planning the next big crime. There is so much going on in such a quite work.

Yeah, I watch it with my son a lot. He doesn't understand why I like Plankton so much. Aside: It's sort of quaint how people used to be so worried about implied The Gay in that show and now there are openly gay characters in mainstream, big-time little kid cartoons.

Anyway, I don't mind discussions about invasive species. Kudzu and tree of heaven? Yeah, they suck and will screw up a lot of land if you let them.

I doubt it should worry us more than HIV/AIDS, though, and we f*cking celebrate the diversity of those murderers.

142 "I imagine this will be enforced with all the restraint and
professionalism with which the Minneapolis Police Department has come to
be nationally known."

One of the leading Democratic candidates for mayor there (well, "Democratic Farmer-Labor" because MN is weird that way) has a novel proposal. Police officers would have to leave their guns in their patrol cars. And use exclusively nonlethal methods as their first-line response.

If the police in question were to be confronted by criminals with guns? Which happens sometimes. Well, y'know, the mayoral candidate said, the cops could then just go back to the car to get their own guns. Easy peasy.

Up till now, in the race to determine which of America's major cities would earn the coveted title of "the next Detroit", it's been Shitcargo IL and St. Looters MO in a dramatic neck and neck race.

But with this one weird trick of disarming police officers, Minne-craphole-is suddenly leaps into a commanding lead! And the crowd goes wild!

Yesterday my father recited a line from a post he'd seen online: 'I'm sure glad I got all my antics and stupid out of my system before camera phones were invented'. It was meant as a jest at the time, people doing American's funniest home videos kinda thing, but it's far more true about things like what you posted about.

I look at incidents such as that crosswalk incident, this witch-hunting and collectivist shaming/immortalizing of her moment of very human failure, as a prototypical example of what happens in a country like NoKo. Daddy dictator died, people were assigned to wail in the streets and pretend (like their lives depended on it, because they did) that they gave a damn about ol' Dear Leader kicking the bucket and going to face God, and their army rounded up a few poor souls who the powers-that-be decided did not wail quite hard enough.

The government then had other civilians shoot the prisoners the army'd taken. And the civilians did it, because they were just glad it was not them at the other end of the barrel.

It's merciless, it's self-aggrandizing, it's everything wrong with the human condition. This, too, is sin, and there is a penalty to be paid for it.

162 I gather the best argument that people have against my telling the GOPe to FOAD is "but the Democrats..."

The best argument against that? The Democrats themselves.

The Democrat Party is a shambles. The insane clown posse that makes-up their so-called "coalition" is segregated into silos of disparate interest groups (racial, ethnic, "gender identity", etc.) that have nothing at all in common other than "we want other peoples' money". These silos have steel-reinforced concrete walls separating them with a small, moneyed globalist elite sitting atop the whole mess trying desperately to keep it together. Hate, raw visceral hate, is what they're using now (it's their go-to, really) but that only works for so long before even rabid partisans become "outraged-out".

Still, with the Democrats in utter shambles, in their weakest electoral position nationally at the federal and state levels in perhaps a century, we find ourselves with a government that consumes an enormous amount of the economy and is involved in literally every aspect of our lives from womb to tomb. Our "conservative" "victories" have amounted to, essentially:
1) keeping dudes out of the women's room, in some states, for now
2) keep the government from spending more than 40% of GDP

At this rate of "conservative" "victories", we'll be lucky if 8-years from now we're not arguing over whether we should allow open pedophiles to be serving in the military.

The GOP is not viable as an alternative to the leftist lunatics who run the Democrats. And it hasn't been since early-1996. The Era Of Big Government never even slowed since the Gingrich "Revolution" and, if anything, the country has swung so far to the left on all social matters it's doubtful we'll even get back to what would have been considered "edgy" and "out there" for social norms in 1995.

There is a political realignment in the air. It's coming. Our job ought to be to make sure there is a viable conservative vehicle once that realignment shakes out. It may be called The Republican Party, or it may not. But the GOP as currently constituted is about 15-years past its sell-by date and deserves neither our support or our loyalty.

That reminds me of calls to increase the gas taxes (or shift to "per-mile," with tracking devices) because A) people drive less when the prices are higher and B) mileage is generally improving.

I guess it's not really the same, but there's a factor of competing incentives going on.

1) keeping dudes out of the women's room, in some states, for now
2) keep the government from spending more than 40% of GDP"

But wait! You're missing one! My favorite one!

The bestest "conservative victory" in recent memory!

When the Paul Ryan-led house, at Ryan's behest, lifted the fat tax on the "Cadillac" health care plans enjoyed by Big Labor. A tax originally imposed on those plans by Obamacare.

So to sum up: Democrats, with Obamacare, clumsily impose a painful burden on one of their own key constituencies. A burden which would normally have caused that constituency to become fractious, disloyal, and possibly even break ranks over the question of Obamacare repeal.

Republicans then saddle up, ride to the rescue, and make it all better, lifting the burden, and kissing the owwwieee boo boo. In exchange for nothing. Not even magic beans. So that the Democratic constituency thus relieved can continue to energetically support Democrats and oppose Obamacare repeal.

This policy masterstroke was described by Ryan's press operation as being not only a "conservative victory", but a KEY "conservative victory".

Pyrrhus wept.

230 >>There is a political realignment in the air. It's coming. Our job ought to be to make sure there is a viable conservative vehicle once that realignment shakes out. It may be called The Republican Party, or it may not. But the GOP as currently constituted is about 15-years past its sell-by date and deserves neither our support or our loyalty.

Political parties are always changing. The current Dem Party looks nothing like the Party did 20 or even 10 years ago. And so is the Republican Party.

Two years ago nobody on this planet thought Donald Trump would be the leader of the Republican Party and nobody in this universe thought he would be dragging the Party to the right. But he won and he is.

Look at his cabinet, by far the most conservative cabinet in memory. Look at his first of what hopefully will be a number of SC Justices. Look at what is happening with border security and deportation of illegals. Just today, the Republican House put $1.6 billion in the spending bill for the border wall. You think that would have happened 2 years ago? No, of course it wouldn't.

You don't give loyalty to a political Party. They work for us. It is our job to mold them the way we want them to work. It is indisputable that the Republican Party is both becoming more conservative with guys like Cruz and Paul and Brat replacing weak, establishment types at the national level and the agenda is definitely moving more toward the right.

The Obamacare fight is still very much alive and next comes tax reform. These are conservative principles being enacted by this Congress. Not as fast or complete as we all want but moving that way. If you want to increase the speed then work to remove those in the Party who stand in the way but starting all over again by fracturing voices on the right will indeed give liberals more power. We've seen this over and over when every a 3rd party spoiler gets in a race most notably with Ross Perot.

Hell, I'm not even a Republican but it is the only vehicle that can fight against the left in a meaningful way. Great process has been made. Throwing it all away now would be insane.

Koalas carry chlamydia, which is transferrable to humans. They are also called drop-bears, because they fall out of trees when they sleep, after getting high on all the eucalyptus they eat. If they hit a person when they fall, they become terrifying rage monsters, scratching and biting, and can inflict some nasty wounds.

256 Belcher's Sea Snake
The most venomous snake known in the world, a few milligrams is strong enough to kill 1000 people! Less than 1/4 of bites will contain venom, and they are relatively docile. Fisherman are usually the victims of these bites, as they encounter the species when they pull nets from the ocean. Found throughout waters off South East Asia and Northern Australia.

Can't even go swimming there.

Except that the idea of being forgiven has been conflated with
suffering no consequences for your actions. Forgiveness without
atonement is no virtue.

Posted by: Brother Cavil, Abbot of St. Costello-on-the-Hurlingbone at July 27, 2017 10:25 AM (AM1GF)

That is a question of the person being forgiven, not the one doing the forgiving.
We are to forgive others as our Father forgives us. Conditionals were not attached to that; to be sure, there will be consequences for our actions, and the actions of others, and we will sometimes need to implement some of those consequences ourselves, as judges or leaders or policemen, or parents for that matter, but that we are to forgive is assumed.
Speaking more broadly, I agree with your point to an extent; in the context of the matter Jewells45 mentioned though, I am more than a bit weary of the internet tribunals about x person doing y thing and let's all jeer at them :/ feels like dark ages stocks in the middle of the city.

The Obamacare fight is still very much alive and next comes tax reform.
These are conservative principles being enacted by this Congress.

Rolling-back something that should never have been allowed to become law in the first place is a "conservative principle"? Really? And wake me when someone proposes tax reform that will reduce the size and scope of government back to what it was in, say, oh, like 1998 or so.

I'll give you Gorsch - quality pick, quality. The rest, in entirety, is being done by one guy - Donald J Trump - with his own party kicking and screaming the whole way.

262 I just know that reality shows can't broadcast people who haven't signed the waiver. Remember COPS? The scandal with that show, the producers offering to post bond for the perps being arrested if they signed the waiver allowing the broadcast. Every now and then one of them would be blurred out because they refused to sign the release.
=====

Probably has something to do with the fact that they are the "content" of the show and the show uses their likenesses to make money.

Similar to all the Star Trek fanfic movies out there. CBS/Paramount never had issue with them in the past until a recent one was being made and CBS/Paramount sued. The producers won that suit because you can use Star Trek and its associated trademarked items as long as there's no money exchanging hands anywhere.

I fully admit my statement may be informed by my own flaws and experiences. I've simply been burned too many times to be particularly quick to forgive; that's something I'll have to answer to my Creator for when my time comes, I suppose. I still hold that there is a qualitative difference between the nature and conditions of divine forgiveness and what we mere mortals practice, with the knowledge of likely consequences. Discernment is a thing and we are called to exercise it.

I'm not sure how you blame the GOP for a program that was enacted entirely by liberals with zero GOP support when they were effectively unequipped to stop it. That's why it is important to win elections even if the person who wins is less than desirable. If the the left hadn't had the numbers in Congress they did, there never would have been an Obamacare. That's the point. The issue is a handful of GOP senators and reps who are stopping a more conservative repeal. Go after them.

What's easier, getting rid of 5 or 6 Senators or starting an entirely new Party with few resources and no power and attempting to take over DC?

Primary the hell out of people like Murkowski and Collins and if they win work to minimize their effectiveness. We've got a guy that is leading the Party right now who is unabashedly trying to move things to the right. He hopefully will have 7 1/2 more years and if he keeps pushing the way he has we will in fact be in a much more conservative country.

This isn't a 4 quarter game. It goes on forever on a continuum. We never stop pushing things in a more conservative direction and that starts with pushing the Party to be more representative of what we want. Progressives did it with the Dem Party by being persistent over a long time. I think we are at least as capable as that collection of freaks and dopes.

Trust me on this, I have no discernable talent to draw or paint. I'm at the point where if a sketch of a dog is vaguely, sorta, kinda recognizable as something canine, it is a huge moral victory. Not exposing the public to my efforts is a service to all humanity. :-)

Fortunately, my ego (of which I have plenty) is not involved. I enjoy the learning process for itself. And I find that learning to use simple tools and my hands to create something is immensely satisfying. Sketching, whittling, simple wood carving, even tying flies for fishing all have a similar appeal. I can get lost in the process and find it very peaceful.

to my Creator for when my time comes, I suppose. I still hold that
there is a qualitative difference between the nature and conditions of
divine forgiveness and what we mere mortals practice, with the knowledge
of likely consequences. Discernment is a thing and we are called to
exercise it.

I concur with all you've said there, and I do not think you have aught to worry about regarding the Lord. Let's always remember that he's not a distant, austere God, but a perfect Father, and he knows what you've been through, and how you've been hurt.
The Lord does not judge actions as we do; he judges the heart and the mind, the attitude of his child, perfectly informed by the child's life and experiences. He knows very well, as C.S. Lewis said, the wreck of a ship you're trying to steer, and He is near to those who are suffering.
So don't sweat it at all senor, crack open a cold one, and have as good a day as you can, knowing full well the Lord's got your back. o.O

I personally think Trump decided to use Twitter to light a fire under Sessions. He might have been trying to see just how much fight vs. the southern gentlemen mannerisms Sessions has, and to try to pry him out of the Senate paralysis that all Senators seem to live by.

Very risky move and certainly not one he wants to ever use with someone who would easily carry a grudge.

We'll see what Sessions says.

That will happen no matter if Trump runs it or not.

There is a huge vacuum for a populist party. Heck there maybe a room for a constitutional party as well.

The real problem is both political parties abandoned their traditional bases for new ones. That has created a lot a chaos in the political system. This chaos can end two ways: New political parties and a new balance of political power, or with the country going up in flames by secession and civil war.

When he charged I would put a hard boot in his forehead. He loved it. As he matured, I got a two-by-four and hammered him when reached me. He loved it. When he grew to an adult, I avoided him.
