Poll: Although 44% Remain Undecided, Those With a Opinion Favor Robert Ritchie -- AKA "Kid Rock" -- Over Debbie Stabenow for the 2018 Michigan Senate Race
Among those expressing an opinion, Robert Ritchie (and I'll call him that, as he would run under that name) beats Debbie Stabenow 54% to 46%. But bear in mind, 44% have no opinion or are up in the air.
I suppose this is good news, even if of a very preliminary type, but I do have to wonder: If the public is now ready to elect newcomer celebrities, doesn't the GOP face a massive, MASSIVE Celebrity Gap? The Democrats have their own rock stars, after all -- like, Legendary Axe-Man Joe Scarborough, the Frankenstein of the Fret-board, has issued a weak denial about whether he might run against Trump in 2020.Comments

Having said all that, ace, I think your ending question assumes that people who are inclined to vote for Ritchie are so inclined ONLY because he is a celebrity. I'm not convinced that this is the case.

You know what I think is awesome? The other candidates in Michigan are saying hey I'm an actual bad ass, as in former military, etc., and more people are throwing their hat in the ring and more people are saying no I'm the one who will fight DC and that is a good thing.

That's the thing, this isn't some whim. Kid Rock for Congress has been around for years. He does tons of charity work, tons of stuff for the military and, in the Napster days, said go ahead and dl my stuff, I've made my money.
Will he be good? Dunno. But I've discussed before how I loathe the Ted Cruz approach (remember, I'm a Cruz fan) of straight A in elementary school to straight A in middle school to straight A in high school to high honors at an Ivy to high honors at an Ivy law school to a US attorney or state AG job to Congress to run for President. I don't blame Cruz for doing that, it's hating the game, not the player.
This is about taking a sledgehammer to the notion that you must have some kind of degree in a certain field to dare run for office.

The Republicans have always had some number of non-politicians running. They are usually businessmen or military officers though. They will continue to get those.

I went to one of those $20 ticket concerts he puts on in the summer. It was great the t-shirts were like $15 and beer prices were very reasonable as was everything else. He managed to work out a concert model bypassing ticket master that other artists just pretend to complain about.

Exactly! That's the reason it's foolish to fret that someone will win just because they have a big name. Being a celebrity gets someone's foot through the door with most people; they recognize the name, they know they've done something, made some money, okay, they'll listen.
But it's what comes NEXT that either seals the deal, or breaks it. Sure, George Clooney can run - and if he stands up and reads scripts written for him by Nancy Pelosi, guess what, he'll flame out spectacularly. Trump didn't win because he was a celebrity; he won because he told Americans that their country could be great again, and he was going to help them make it that way.

I agree. That used to be role of the Party, to do the fundraising and organization. Nowadays, the candidate has to do all the fundraising work and not everyone is wired for that.

I think in the past, union members were largely apolitical, so they'd just vote for whoever the union bosses and the paperwork told them to. What did they care, as long as it didn't impact their lives. Now people are a bit more aware and less manipulated like that.

You're probably right about Harris but I've been looking into her career since her name keeps coming up as a Dem frontrunner. I could be wrong but I don't think she's ready for the big leagues.
Kamala's support is deep, not broad; that is, hardcore progressives would be attracted to her candidacy because she's ideologically farther Left than Obama, but that also makes her a hard-sell to the more moderate, left-leaning voters in a national campaign.
To win, the Dems badly need to get back the blue-collar white vote, the Reagan/Trump Democrats, and I don't think Harris has the stuff to pull it off.

Lots of people there have been without jobs for the past eight years, since Obama promised to drive the coal industry into bankruptcy. If these folks' jobs had not been destroyed by Obama's idiotic energy policies, maybe they could afford to pay to see a dentist, instead of standing in line for hours to get dental care for free.
Anyway, DM histrionically says that this fair is like something one would see in a third-world country like Sudan, and that Trump should see it so that he could witness first-hand the horrors his terrible policies have wrought. His policies? Do these idiots not know that Obamacare is still the law of the land?
Also, I wonder if it has ever occurred to the nitwits at DM that if Hillary had won the election, she would have brought in millions more third-world poor (from Syria, Sudan, Somalia and elsewhere), and they would, like all the other poor muzzie (and Mexican, central American, south American, etc.) migrants that Obama invited here, put even more strain on our already overtaxed health care system?
How exactly would bringing more third-world poor here have improved the health care delivery system for poor people in southwest Virginia?

I know that I had to drag a group of women - representative of their group - to vote for Trump. At the last hour they relented and voted for Trump. This group votes. They actually were considering stay home. Why?
1) Supreme Court
2) We can't survive Hillary.
While they weren't happy with Trump's three marriages and some of his life story there was no sex tape.
They are not bible thumpers but they go to church regularly. They are not political animals. They generally lead conservative lives without fanfare.
And they are not Barbara Bush GOPe types either. They are normal mothers, etc.
Kid Rock isn't going to save the supreme court. He'd be just another senator and while they don't like Debbie they don't want a long haired, greasy, guy who gets blow jobs on camera.
To think that they will vote to lower the standards of elected officials to sex tape levels for a lousy senator is ridiculous.
