An Olive Garden spokesperson told Gizmodo that allofgarden.com “was flagged through automated means and the letter was generated.” The company has since reviewed the complaint and determined that no action was necessary. It’s been a hard week for ol’ Chipotle: On Tuesday, a franchise in Virginia closed briefly after multiple customers fell violently ill with what turned out to be norovirus, a throwback to the Great Chipotle Poisonings of 2015. But there’s more, because while burrito fans were getting sick in Virginia (and documenting their experiences in great detail), customers at a Dallas location complained that mice were falling from the ceiling, on account of what a Chipotle spokesperson said was a “small structural gap in the building.” (It has since been repaired.) And now, FOX31 reports, shareholders have filed a class-action lawsuit against the chain, claiming Chipotle “deceived them with misleading information that the company had fixed its problems with food safety and now stocks are sinking.” Determined to prove the merit of George’s proposal, Magie invented and in 1904 patented what she called the Landlord’s Game. Laid out on the board as a circuit (which was a novelty at the time), it was populated with streets and landmarks for sale. The key innovation of her game, however, lay in the two sets of rules that she wrote for playing it. One of Abraham Lincoln's greatest writings, May not have been written by Lincoln. The rumor that Lincoln hadn’t written the Bixby letter was apparently started by the man who claimed to be the true author: Lincoln’s secretary, John Hay. “From the scientific point of view, the sentence that the earth is warmed by human activity is as true as the sentence: The earth is round!” said Archbishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo. The archbishop has been a consistent and zealous promoter of manmade climate change as a non-negotiable Church issue, despite the status of care for the environment as a prudential matter. Climate change ideology continues to be contested as a ploy perpetrated with manipulated data by the left to enact environmental regulations and taxes. Even so, Archbishop Sorondo dismissed deniers of climate change in a recent Vatican Radio interview as “a small, negligible minority.” Minority? I would be careful on the majority and minority outlook on things, Padre. Yet one thing is certain – the level of parental involvement and supervision in the 1970s was not a tenth of what is expected today. Fast forward to 2014 and a woman was arrested for allowing her nine-year-old to play in the park while she worked. So what impact do increasing levels of parental involvement have on children? Let’s take a look at the evidence. A recent survey of children aged eight to 12 found that indoor play is now the norm, a third have never splashed in a puddle and the distance children are allowed to play from home has shrunk by 90% since 1970. The next preventable crisis in the Arab Penninsula? Cholera. "The great tragedy is that this cholera outbreak is a preventable, man-made humanitarian catastrophe," Maurer said in a statement. "Further deaths can be prevented, but warring parties must ease restrictions and allow the import of medicines, food, and essential supplies and they must show restraint in the way they conduct warfare." The report came as the number of Yemenis killed by the disease exceeded 1,800. Cholera, a highly contagious diarrheal infection spread through water contaminated by human waste, can be efficiently treated with the immediate replacement of lost fluids. Without treatment the disease can kill even healthy adults within a few hours. Mayor de Blasio, a man of the people. Clean people that is. Mayor de Blasio ventured into the city’s decrepit subway system on Sunday — but didn’t have to face the foul-smelling and often crazy vagrants that ordinary New Yorkers are forced to contend with every day. That’s because police were ordered to roust all the homeless people from two stations ahead of the mayor’s four-stop press event as he rode from his Park Slope gym to his new re-election headquarters in Downtown Brooklyn, law-enforcement sources told The Post. Good work if you can get it. Dean Wormer he isn't. Puliafito resigned his $1.1-million-a-year post in March 2016, in the middle of the spring term, saying he wanted to explore outside opportunities. Three weeks earlier, a 21-year-old woman had overdosed in his presence in a Pasadena hotel room. The woman was rushed to a hospital, where she recovered. Police found methamphetamine in the hotel room, according to a police report, but made no arrests. Puliafito has never spoken publicly about the incident, which is being reported here for the first time. Are you familiar with Frank Zappa's Tinsel Town Rebellion LP? If you are, then you are aware of the Frank Zappa Panty Quilt. Frank Zappa's 1981 tour featured a musical sequence called "Panty Rap" that you don't want your boss to hear at the workplace, due to the subject matter. He encouraged women to throw their underpants on stage. Many women responded, and bras were often thrown, too. After the tour was over, he commissioned this quilt made of the collected underwear. The journals approached are among those sometimes described as predatory in science circles because they exploit researchers into paying fees to have their papers published in them. But in this case, three of the publications just went ahead and published the fake paper straight up – clearly not having read or checked it first – even without requiring payment of a fee. Taking Pride: The ‘Walmart Guy’ vs. Anti-Capitalism Millennials. Though we have never met, I smiled recently seeing my favorite Walmart employee. For over ten years, I witnessed him gathering shopping carts in the parking lot. He is a white millennial who only has the use of one arm, walks with a severe limp and appears slightly mentally challenged. I once saw him leaving work driving a new looking compact car. My wife Mary prepared his taxes when she worked for a tax preparation company. I thought, “Hey, this brother has got it goin’ on — doin’ his thing.” The Walmart guy could easily qualify for disability; sit home on his butt allowing taxpayers to take care of him. Far too many able-bodied millennials feel entitled, believing government should provide them free everything. Want to meet a fun girl? Elisabeth Sherman. Not. At least one U.S. publication doesn't see the big deal. Food & Wine—a magazine devoted to celebrating some of the specific things Rome has banned: food and wine—apparently doesn't see the big deal with the Roman law. "Truthfully, it doesn't sound like the law should be difficult to abide," writes F&W's Elisabeth Sherman. "You'll still be able to enjoy Rome with respect, and a glass of wine in your hand, at least until two in the morning. By then, you should be in bed anyway."She's not fun and neither is Italy and their new food laws. The US often follows the lead of Europe. Will the US follow again? The U.K to register drones. The government of the UK said on Saturday all drones larger than 250 grams—slightly more than half a pound, for all you ignorant Americans—will need to be registered with the Department of Transport following a report by aviation authorities drones as small as 400 grams could damage helicopter windshields. Drone owners will also be required to pass a “safety awareness test” demonstrating they understand UK rules on safety and privacy. Aviation Minister Lord Martin Callanan said in a statement on the government’s web site that he recognized the usefulness of drones, but “Like all technology, drones too can be misused. By registering drones, introducing safety awareness tests to educate users we can reduce the inadvertent breaching of airspace restrictions to protect the public.” Socialistic paradise, not really paradise. Pigs aren’t just cerebral, though: they have heart. When others are in distress, they can express concern and act with empathy. A description of pig behaviours, derived from scientific experiments and compiled by Lori Marino of the Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy and Christina M Colvin at Georgia Institute of Technology is so impressive, you might think it was about chimpanzees, elephants or whales. How do we justify killing pigs? Because they taste damn good!!!! That is reason enough. Amsterdam, the largest city in the Netherlands and once a mecca for those interested in pot and prostitution, is in the process of criminalizing men approaching women. Though the Netherlands has enjoyed a reputation as a liberal country sans the SJW extremism of Scandinavia, this might be about to change. The new laws in Amsterdam are aimed at male actions that “frighten” women, according to one of the lawmakers responsible. This kind of highly subjective test, in an age where women write 2,000 word diatribes on “manspreading” on public transportation, is ripe for abuse and overuse. For a down-list match for what is not even a "major" in this "sport." I'm still not sure how the ladders work but I think this level of play serves as play-in for the majors. And this is just one of the group rounds in the tournament. 111.4 MILLION VIEWS. Holy crap. Posted by: TexasDan at July 24, 2017 09:49 PM (yL25O) 21

Thomas Mars, attorney representing former Arkansas and Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt, former Wal-Mart general counsel, also represents Mike Huckabee, started his career at the Rose Law Firm, and was referred to Nutt by Bill Clinton's pastor. I'm dubious regarding the provenance of the Churchill quote.
Not least that Sir Winston, while an inspiring leader, often got grand strategy profoundly wrong. From the Dardanelles debacle in WWI to his insistence that forcing entry via the Baltic would be the key to victory in continental Europe in WWII. His staff, in the latter case, usually either gently talked him down or discreetly ignored his directives. Allied command officers were not so lucky. Ike apparently had to sit through an entire evening of a well-lubricated Prime Minister Churchill badgering him in front of a wall of maps, grandly waving a cigar, about massively relocating the planned Normandy landings. Oh sure. No problem. Let me talk to my boss first. Posted by: torquewrench at July 24, 2017 09:56 PM (ujwCG) 47
Even so, Archbishop Sorondo dismissed deniers of climate change in a recent Vatican Radio interview as
'a small, negligible minority.' Minority? I would be careful on the majority and minority outlook on things, Padre. Indeed. Catholicism is a minority of the world's population, so Sorondo has just inadvertently disproven Catholicism. At least, in his own heart. Other, more humble Catholics (and Christians generally) understand that there is worldly popularity, and what is pleasing to G-d. These... rarely coincide. 76 Just a quick PSA for those with elderly parents or grandparents who shouldn't drive and you are afraid to take the keys....My beautiful 31 yr old niece was killed this morning by an elderly driver. It was her 2nd day on the job at a NH and was out helping the residents with some exercises. Old lady pulling in hit the gas instead of the brakes. My niece and the lady she was helping were both killed. 6 other injured. Leaves behind 3 young children. Absolutely devastating.

11 Devolp, eh?
Posted by: Walter Freeman at July 24, 2017 09:44 PM That's why I was always home before dark. My father warned me about devolped men lurking in the woods. In my area, so many kids are in the street that drivers watch out as soon as the weather turns nice. But by this time of year they've learned to get out of the way and watch for blind spots at corners. The big thing for the boys this summer has been scooters more than bikes, I suppose because they're cheaper for the parents and easier to port when the kids are cutting their own trails through the woods. I see all of them because the biggest wooded lot is across the street and I have two low-hanging oaks. By some logic known only to kids and teens, they think it's a good spot to discuss secrets. The only dangerous thing that I've seen them try was when three pre-adolescent boys were trying to talk each other into going into a neighbor's yard to look at his front loader and other equipment. I suggested they ask him when he got home from work, which I believe they did. The thing is, the kids around here have decent parents. Six years ago if I was out cleaning my windows and said hello to a group of passing kids, they'd ignore me and in a few days I'd have eggs or stolen firewood chucked at my windows. But a couple days ago I talked to one of the bicyclists, probably seven or eight, because he discovered the joy of flipping open mailboxes as he rode past. Told him to go back and shut them before the rain came, and he said "okay" and did it. He has since told me that my new mailbox sticks shut. Ha ha. Ethanol is the most cost effective alternative energy source out there.
When getting gas at a new station a couple of days ago I noticed they had a pump for E15. The regular stuff was listed as less than 10% ethanol and at $2.10 a gallon. Wondering the premium for the extra ethanol I decided to keep the estimate easy and assume the regular stuff was 'E5', 5% ethanol. To get from E5 to E15 you have to take out a ten percent of a gallon, or a tenth of a gallon @ $2.10 would be $0.21. The difference between ($2.10 - $0.21 = $1.91) and the price of E15 would be the cost of a tenth of a gallon of ethanol. The missing factor is the price of E15 as I was pumping and the other product prices goes blank when you make your selection... so I checked on another pump. The pump price of E15 was $1.91 a gallon. Ethanol is free! Free energy!!1!1 I have no idea how or why ethanol producers would want to produce more when it has no market value.... ....unless it has hidden subsidies amounting to the total cost of production, distribution, and profit. Of course the producers want MOAR! Posted by: Burnt Toast at July 24, 2017 10:49 PM (P/kVC) 251

That got the franchise thing started. The company was public by 1963. It grew rapidly in the '70s. I remember that era. Imasco bought it in 1981, and acquired and merged other franchise names with it. CKE, which held Carl's Jr. bought it in 1997. Their burgers were good in the '70s and the '80s. After than, it went downhill, but their breakfast business, the biscuits is YUGE here. They become hangouts for old timers in the morning. My father and his buddies go there all the time. "We hid the keys in the basement because we were concerned that he might forget and try to drive."
I had an elderly neighbor way back in the day, before I had learned to be worried about people driving past the age of safe competence. The guy seemed okay, but seniors are okay until they're not. I would often find him in his driveway cursing about how his battery was flat. Things these days! They aren't as good as they used to be! Why, back in the day, when we wore onions on our belts, a battery would last forever! Since then, I've come to wonder whether his adult children (who lived nearby) kept sneaking over and leaving the dome light on so that the car would be dead if Pops decided to go out for a spin. I did give him a couple of jump starts, which in retrospect I probably ought not to have done. These days I would beg off. Posted by: torquewrench at July 24, 2017 10:53 PM (ujwCG) 261

I found out the hard way about long term storage of ethanolated gas. The stuff pulls in water out of the atmosphere and turns into absolute shit. Had a truck that wouldn't hit a lick, went crazy for a while, then realized it was the gas. Drained it out and it was absolute shit. They've started selling no-ethanol gas around here pretty good, but charge an arm and a leg for it. I use it primarily for small engines, now, lawm mowers and such. The difference is amazing. Trying to run my riding mower, with a 2 cyl Briggs in it, I couldn't get the carb abjusted right, and it wouldn't run quite right. When I put non-ethanol gas, I noticed it seemed to be running rich. I adusted the carb, and it runs smooth and like its supposed to. Same with the push mower. It runs properly. And using it for the little 2 -cycles with gas/oil mix. They run right now. Fuck ethanol with a rusty chainsaw. Sideways. Up the Solo. Posted by: publius, the Persistent Poperin Pear at July 24, 2017 11:01 PM (8O3HH) 280

I got one of their Steak, Egg, and Cheese biscuits, and damned if that wasn't really good. My mother wanted coffee, and she said that was the best fast food coffee she'd had in a while. Much better than Hardees. I'm not much of a coffee drinker at all, but those around here who are say that all the restaurant coffee has just flat out gone to hell around here. So here's the deal with E15 ethanol. Australia went through a string of huge bumper harvests for grain a few years ago, to where they could hardly give it away.
No worries, mate! We'll brew up ethanol fuel! Do you right! They standardized on E15. Then pushed that out into their fuel distribution network. Enormous numbers of premature engine failures occurred, none of them under warranty. E15 really is the inflection point for bad juju. Posted by: torquewrench at July 24, 2017 11:17 PM (ujwCG) 341

Risk caused the funniest and extended frat house resident conflict I've seen. After a contentious game , one of the guys leaned a small waste basket full of water against another players bedroom door. Guy eventually opens his door. Yelling, laughs , cursing , etc. Everyone returns to normal routine. Week later , guy returns favor by leaning a 30 gallon trash can full of water against the instigators door. The back and forth of various type retaliations continued for weeks until we as a group had to put a stop to it.

Molly, so very sorry about your loss. That is just so tragic!
My Dad stopped driving on his own after he got lost going to the store. Mom took some persuading, but went along after we set up transportation with her friends and a local gal who drives seniors - or anyone - around town and helps with shopping and doctor appointments and whatnot. She stays booked. Sounds like a good business opportunity. A lady from church was backing into cars in the lot, but wouldn't stop driving until her son convinced her that her church really needed her car, so she donated it to them. Creative solution! Just ride with your loved ones regularly and evaluate their abilities. Also, please check their houses for tripping hazards, and borrow/disappear extension ladders, chainsaws and other hazards when it is time. Don't delay in taking action to prevent tragedies like Molly's family is experiencing. Prayers to you and yours. Posted by: Just wondering at July 24, 2017 11:34 PM (WBYpW) 378

Noticed the diesel horns first in a documentary called The Execution Protocol filmed at Potosi Correctional Institute in Missouri.

Can't tell you how much I laughed over the story about the rapefugees who had gotten into Norway and applied for asylum there -- and were turned down due to bad behavior -- and how much of an asshole must someone have been for them to be denied same in squishy soft Scandinavia? -- and who then figured they would try their luck in Russia. They fetched up in St. Petersburg, where they went to a nightclub, and started grabbing and fondling the women there without consent. First the Russian female patrons beat them up. Then the Russian male patrons beat them up. Then the Russian club staff beat them up, and threw them out. Whereupon the rapefugees called the Russian police for help. So I recently completed some grad work, and am now trying to use that to get the logical promotion within my current field. Months ago, my boss received reference forms for my potential new employers. He promised me he would fill them out, but he never did. Well, now he announces he has stage IV lung cancer (although he kept going to work for months after getting my forms, so this isn't an excuse).
Everybody's heartbroken by this news, and while I don't want this to go poorly for him and I hope he gets better, I'm having a hard time giving much of a shit about a guy who apparently gave very few shits about me. In the early days of General Relavity, there was a lot not understood. THe event horizon of the Schwarzschild (spherical, static black hole) was one of them. Lemaitre, through the derivation of what is now called Lemaitre coordinates, was the first one to show the singularity of the metric at the event horizon was just a coordinate defect, and nothing wrong with the spacetime. Of course, there is a big problem at the center, a real singularity. Anyway, Lemaitre was one of the Founding Fathers of the GR and Cosmology. Its pretty good and I like what they're trying to do but I question the longevity of their plans and what they are truly accomplishing. It sounds all inspirational and stuff but will it last? The behaviors that led people to make the mess didn't change, they just found different places to trash.
The idea of personally going to do good in your community without needing praise or recognition is fine, but there comes a point where you realize you're spending your money and time for others to take advantage of and never change themselves. When I was there I opted instead for something that lasted longer than 2 minutes. "River sledging". Really a great idea. White-water river (2 to 3 grade, I think), boogie board (now they have specially made fancy ones), wetsuit, helmet, fins. You jump in, kick at the turns to avoid walls and rocks, and 45 min. exhilirating cold minutes later, you get out. Third or fourth best thing I did in NZ. Anyway tonight's example is as follows Mike Hammer.
Three people were on shift tonight qualified to mix paint. Lady who works the department was on lunch. Shift manager was covering garden center since store was short manned. Which left me who was busy processing customers in Auto, then getting my till audited, and then helping a customer take their large purchase out the store. Unbeknownst to me, another shift manager had 'trained' one of the cashiers to mix paints. So she was trying to handle it. So pushing cart out and the shift manager who was covering garden told me once I was done to go to paint counter. So I get over there to find the cashier and the customer staring and the mixing machine's door open. Then it hit me. A can of paint inside the machine. Inside it looked like everything was covered in a strawberry milkshake with whipped cream swirls. The cashier could not get the top plate to move in the mixing machine, the plate that holds the can of paint in place while being mixed. So she placed a one gallon can of paint atop the top plate, closed the door, and turned the machine on. Posted by: Anna Puma (HQCaR) at July 25, 2017 12:29 AM (PMDjU) 532

Hewitt, unlike many prominent media personalities, isn't actually stupid. I still remember the one time - that I heard him, at least - when he really lost his cool (for a good reason) and dropped the party shill act that's his stock in trade.
It was after the 2010 mid-terms. The Dems, being both generally stupid and arrogant at that point (and why not, when a non-entity had been elected president and was receiving Ceaucescu-like treatment by the "press"), were of course caught totally unprepared for the historic wipe-out they suffered in the House. Without going into the dynamics and details, the House GOP leadership folded almost instantly in wrapping up the CR and other business the Dems just assumed would be routine, until they got whomped. In a staggering move, the Senate GOP even signalled they would use their procedural leverage to help the House push for certain things. The House GOP just folded, instantly. Hewitt was livid, recognizing how idiotic a move this was. Used to have his show on in the background for a while, so I'd heard him some, he was never like this. He accurately and angrily denounced the incompetence of the House GOP. As I recall, by the next day, he was more/less back to even-toned, even-handed party shill mode. Revealing, I thought. Oh, yes, the classic Russian nuclear powered military kit was scary as all get out. Cue the classic jokes about how to find a Northern Fleet sailor in the dark.
Sometimes if you're a small nation or nation-state and you want to be taken more seriously than your size would warrant, you need for people to think you're dangerously nuts. Posted by: yankeefifth at July 25, 2017 12:43 AM I guess that, by that metric, then, yes, humans are more valuable than pretty much every other life form that we know. Because humans can do more things, just from having thumbs, hands, feet, and especially the ability to think. A human can just flat-out do more things than a chicken. Even a baby human can do more than a baby chicken. Monkeys may be able to use tools and even build things or use simple thinking, but compared to a human? Not even remotely close. Even a simple lean-to or shelter puts just about anything a monkey can make to shame. So, I guess I would say that, yeah, there is objective evidence than humans are more valuable. Made a very nice contact today. I stopped to talk to a young guy who was doing some maintenance work on an adjacent commercial property.
Turns out he just separated from the Army this past April. I asked his MOS. Wait for it... 91F Score! The guy was excited to talk to someone, this being a town full of Progs, who shares his interest. We jabbered for about half an hour. It gets better. He told me that he actually learned more from his dad (well, except for the heavy stuff) who had been a lifelong gunsmith. Anyhow, I've been thinking about re-barreling a rifle (that a friend has), and the guy immediately was brimming with specifics to be considered, including cost. At any rate, I intend to buy this guy a beer ASAP. Just in casual conversation, he was a well of information. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at July 25, 2017 12:56 AM (OdK9v) 584

I just started watching tonight's American Ninja Warrior. The first of the city finals. They changed the final obstacle "The Stair Climb" to "The Elevator Climb." Still looks about as hard but I wonder if its actually been made a bit easier. The past couple years of city finals have had very few actually finish because they are heavy on the upper body and arms and that final stair climb obstacle just killed all of them.

The concept of "value" is something philosophers and big thinkers have been arguing about since time immemorial. Things like moral value is one thing, but consider the more simple notion of economic value. Is their any objective definition of the economic value of something? It's pretty much considered subjective in modern theories. Karl Marx thought it was objective. THe Labor Theory of Value. Ayn Rand, as opposed to Marx as anyone, also believed in objective economic value. So, it's well, an ongoing debate..... There were a variety of reasons why some people in the audience booed at Newport. Some didn't approve of Dylan playing electric, some because the PA system was full of distortion and they couldn't hear it clearly, and some because the set was so short and they wanted more. One can argue about exact value but necessities unquestioningly have value. Potable water, for instance. Exact value, of course, is impossible to define. It changes with conditions, availability, and the personalities of the buyers and sellers. Exact value is only the price that something actually trades at, and only at that moment. It's along the lines of observation in quantum theory. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at July 25, 2017 01:26 AM (rZ+mb) 604

Insomniac, I'm gonna tell you the truth because that's what a good friend would do.
Your life sucks and doesn't get better because you spend WAY too much time on the AOS. 70 posts a day is 7 posts an hour for 10 hours straight EACH DAY. Back when I used to be here all the time my life sucked too. Now it's great so I'm telling you how I did it. You're serving the wrong master. Being here all the time for people who need to find work to support themselves is what procrastinators do to avoid doing what they know needs doing. You need to leave this place alone or super-severely curtail your activity here until you get your life back on track. We'll be here when you return. You're a competent person. A good-faith effort on your part to gain steady and well-compensated employment couldn't help but be successful. I know that much about you. The rest of your life starts with that employment and income. If you're tired of your life sucking ass you need to back off this place and get that priority handled. Good luck buddy there's no other way. Posted by: MAxIE at July 25, 2017 01:37 AM (9TR2V) 607

Not exactly. The liberal powerbase in the Catholic Church is the Curia in Rome - essentially European academia. The Cardinals are an independent bunch; despite Francis being a lefty - he was also an outsider (South American and Jesuit).
