That if you really, really want something, if you really, really, really want to do something, that the vast majority of achieving it is wanting it. I mean, really wanting it. Not a preference, and not, “Gee, I hope this.” I mean really wanting it. It is the desire that makes you do what you have to do to achieve. Rush Limbaugh Limbaugh commenting on the Quisling Senate GOP and their "effort" to repeal Obamacare. Quote II We all know that Social Security is one of this country's greatest success stories in the 20th century. Mitch McConnell Brilliant!!!! Quote III Without question, the Red Ryder BB gun is the most important gun in the history of American weaponry. Ted Nugent Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters that despite the Republicans’ inability to get enough votes to repeal and replace Obamacare, GOP lawmakers have “given it their best shot.” “This has been a very, very challenging experience for all of us,” McConnell said when asked on Tuesday if he believes his leadership has been damaged by the healthcare debate. The Women's March headed to Saudi Arabia. Nah, just kidding. Islam > Women, crickets. A woman in Saudi Arabia has been arrested after a short Snapchat video showed her wearing a skirt and crop top in the desert heat. Her outfit would be unremarkable in the U.S., but it violated Saudi Arabia's strict, conservative dress code for women. The footage went viral online over the weekend. On Tuesday, Saudi Arabian state TV announced via Twitter that the woman had been taken into custody by police and that the case had been referred to the general prosecutor. Guilty until proven innocent. At least when it comes to forfeiture laws. A.G. Jeff Sessions issues new directives for civil forfeitures. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department will issue new directives to increase the federal govenment's use of civil asset forfeiture, a controversial practice that allows law enforcement to seize property from suspected criminals without charging them with a crime. Speaking at a National District Attorneys Association conference in Minneapolis Monday, Sessions said state and local law enforcement could expect changes from U.S. Attorneys in several areas: increased prosecution of gun crimes, immigration offenses, gang activity, and prescription drug abuse, as well as increased asset seizure by the federal government. Sessions is just plain wrong on this. What was that movement we felt? Oh yeah, just the Founding Fathers rolling in their graves. San Francisco's KQED attacked by ransomware. For the last month, San Francisco’s KQED has been recovering from a massive ransomware attack, the station revealed today to The San Francisco Chronicle. The infection began on June 15, but more than a month later, many crucial systems remain offline at the National Public Radio member-station. “It’s like we’ve been bombed back to 20 years ago, technology-wise,” one senior editor told the Chronicle.Guess they will need to have a couple more beg-a-thons. Freedom, the ability to move about as one pleases. What happens when you can't? Do you sue on the basis that human rights have been violated? A disability rights group in New York City has filed a class-action lawsuit against Uber, alleging the company doesn’t do enough to provide for riders who need wheelchair-accessible vehicles. The suit, filed today, says that the few wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) available in New York aren’t enough to accommodate the large disabled population — there are less than 100 to serve all five boroughs. It was brought by Disability Rights Advocates on behalf of a number of local advocacy groups. The FBI yesterday released a public service announcement (PSA) alerting parents to the dangers potentially imposed by smart toys. The document warns that connected toys with microphones, GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, and/or bluetooth connectivity could be giving criminals access to private information about children and their families. Tens of thousands of minks on a central Minnesota farm were set free from their cages, unleashing the prized fur-bearing creatures into the dark of night, authorities said. “These nitwits think they are doing something good,” Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson said Monday, about a half-day after people he’s convinced are among militant animal rights advocates sneaked onto Lang Farms near Eden Valley sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 5:30 a.m. Monday. The Sheriff’s Office put the value of the minks at more than $750,000. California continues to lead on "global warming". Cap & Trade. California lawmakers voted to extend the state’s cap-and-trade program another 10 years on Monday night. The bill includes language that would gradually tighten restrictions on businesses, reducing the amount of greenhouse gases they’re allowed to put in the atmosphere by 40 percent by 2030. We've heard about the exploding costs of higher education. US students may have nothing to pay. Some lucky Americans are finding that their huge piles of student debt may not actually exist. All thanks to a fluke in paperwork, rather than politics or beneficence. How to survive Guns & Progressives. How to experience lunacy? Discuss guns with the left. A useful way to experience the lunacy of Progressives is to discuss guns with your local lefty. Most people understand that gun control is worthless as a tool to control crime or even reduce gun accidents. The people using guns in crime are by definition not the sort to obey gun laws. Similarly, the people inclined to shoot themselves or friends while playing William Tell will find some way to off themselves, no matter what you do. The only result of gun control is to harass honest citizens exercising their rights as citizens. So, Truth or Fake News? It was the turn of the 20th century when Frank Zamboni was born to recent immigrant parents in a small town south of Salt Lake City, Utah. When Zamboni was a baby, his family bought a farm not too far way in Idaho. That’s where he got his first experiences in mechanical engineering. Frank Zamboni, his brothers and father spent long hours tinkering and fixing broken farm equipment. Frank also worked a local garage, repairing old pickup trucks. “While my father never got past the ninth grade in formal schooling, he always had an inquisitive mind in solving problems,” Frank’s son Richard Zamboni later told Popular Mechanics, “Whether it was electrical, mechanical, or business-related, he had the unique ability to get to the heart of issues. Hey, jewells, just wanted to say thanks for the cute key ring! I love anything with elephants, owls or turtles! I wore the "men's bracelet" (I tied the ends together and then clasped it) to work last Friday and got compliments on such an "original piece." It worked great with heels, jeans, and an embroidered blouse with brown, cream and green stripes. I told people about your page and I hope it results in some new business for you.
I loved all the pieces...all very pretty. The skull and crossbones was really too big, so I wrapped it around my purse strap...a little sigil of sanity in my deep blue world. Thanks again! Posted by: Gem at July 19, 2017 10:21 PM (uaHyk) 89

He was having to chair some meeting, a large meeting of some committee he was one, and there was some issue with some fellow and some farm loans. He had used the loans to put up some grain bins, but didn't do it properly and they collapsed later on. It was something about who was liable for what that this committee had to decide. RE: so called smart technology.
First, a confession. I'm a late adopter to everything. And if you said to me "you have to go back to a flip phone" I could live with that. I used to have a female friend that loved-- and has-- every new gadget. When smart technology for everything started getting popular, I told her I thought there was potential for misuse in regards to privacy issues, among other things. She looked at me as if I had grown a second head. A while later, there was talk of X-Box Kinect being able to listen into your conversations. Her husband has one. I brought it up, and she simply shrugged and said "I don't do anything wrong" and was completely unconcerned. Either I'm really over imaginative or she completely lacks imagination. Hey McConnell, that great government "success story" Social Security is just five years away from paying out more in benefits than it takes in. Then it will be a quick downhill slide into insolvency as our aging population puts more and more strain on the system. And no, importing millions more below-minimum wage landscapers and hotel maids and chicken-pluckers from Mexico won't fix it, any more than importing millions of welfare-dependent middle-east muzzies will solve it.
But in other, more encouraging news, Hillary Clinton is still not president, despite the fact that she had the entire media/Hollywood complex on her side, and despite the fact that Obama had illegally drafted U.S. postal employees as Hillary campaign workers, and Obama henchman Samantha Power was illegally abusing her government position to unmask Trump operatives so Obama (and Hillary) could illegally spy on Trump's campaign. Still have it and what must be 250,000 rounds later it still hits the bullseye at 25 yards. Many a varmint died and many a rabbit in the pot fell victim to that little rifle.

132 RE: so called smart technology.
McCain has the same type of brain tumor as ibguy's sister and my FIL. my FIL is 3 years younger. 8 months after they discovered the tumor and let's just say that there is no recovering from it. Glioblastoma is a death sentence. Most only make it 1-2 years past diagnosis and 5 year survivors are extremely rare. This is with treatment including surgery, chemo, and radiation. There is no cure. He should step down and spend his remaining time with his family and friends and enjoy the time he has left. This is the reality of the situation.

Posted by: Infidel Well, there are a lot of different types of lung cancer. My Dad died of Mesothelioma back in 1977. My ex-wife's father died of lung cancer from cigarette smoking. Different kind of cancer. It's ugly. The earlier the diagnosis, the better chance there is of survival with a combination of surgery, Chemotherapy and/or radiation. If surgery can cut out the largest cancer mass, then usually they follow up with chemotherapy to kill off the rest of the cancer cells. If they can't operate, then they treat with chemo to shrink the cancer mass, and then zap it with radiation, then more chemo to kill what's left. People can be cured and given a lot more years. I think gracepc (sometimes commenter here) had cancer and it has been arrested and is in remission. Posted by: Bossy Conservative....outlaw in America at July 19, 2017 10:51 PM (S6Pax) 202

Most of the mink have already died.
The domestic mink are not suited to survival in the wild. He lost about half the mink that very night. The first pictures showed hundreds of dead mink around their cages. They didn't even get fifty feet. The heat and humidity this week are also taking a toll on the few surviving mink. If they aren't back in the cages by now, the only job left is picking up the dead mink. And Deplorable Jay, Us Minnesotans almost voted our state for Trump. If they can't operate, then they treat with chemo to shrink the cancer mass, and then zap it with radiation, then more chemo to kill what's left. People can be cured and given a lot more years. -- The first time my mom had lung cancer, it was stage 1B. They removed her whole lung. She was a smoker who stopped the day they told her she had a mass on her lung. If you're clear for five years, they say you probably won't get it back. It came back five years in. They treated with chemo and radiation and, from what I can tell, it did nothing. It was just too aggressive. She had a year and a half of treatment before she passed away. Cancer is incredibly horrible. The doctor wanted me to tell her she was terminal; I would not and would not let them tell her; I'm an only child and my Dad had already passed away. A bit of truth and background.
Round 'bout '97/'98, I ran the call center for one of the premier baseball & softball catalog (& barely new internet) sales operations, based in San Antonio, TX. I was about 40 y/o, and my admin was a 26 y/o, bright, cheerful, intelligent and hard working young lady whom I'd plucked from a phone-sales chair, and promoted to the management side of the house. Two months later, her boyfriend "felt" a lump in her breast....and he was an absolute pit-bull in dragging her to the M.D. to get it checked out. As you might've already guessed, it was the bad news. It was the worst news. I came to her hospital room shortly after she awoke from her radical++ mastectomy. Her family and a couple friends drifted out of the room, most of 'em down the hall to the cafeteria. She made sure no one was around but me, and then told me quite plainly; "They didn't get it all, Jim." And swore me to silence. Five months later, she was gone. I was there with her family and fiancée, when she went. One day after her 27th birthday, at that. As much as I despise John McCain, he's now in my earnest prayers. Because I hate cancer, even more. Infinitely more. Love one another, Horde. Love one another, now and evermore. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at July 19, 2017 11:15 PM (v5iqM) 265

I'd say saying about stages is probably better.
Lower the number the better; some can be cured with surgery, some cannot. They really have no effing clue re: prognosis. It's just a somewhat educated guesstimate. Posted by: shibumi You're probably right. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at 82 or 83. It was described as late stage. They didn't assign a number. The oncologist said he could give her 5 years. She lived 10 years cancer free. In the end she died from pneumonia. Posted by: nerdygirl at July 19, 2017 11:16 PM (+lVUW) 268

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department will issue new directives to increase the federal govenment's use of civil asset forfeiture, a controversial practice that allows law enforcement to seize property from suspected criminals without charging them with a crime.
Not only do the feds seize property without even charging the owner with any crime but they often slap a gag order on the owner (who isn't charged) that he can't even talk to anyone about the property or the seizure. Yep, the feral government really likes to do that. BTW, this crap either started or really got ramped up to 11 under Reagan and the War on Drugs. I don't know the relevant SCOTUS decisions on this but anyone who found this Constitutional in any way needed to be impeached, tossed off the bench and deported to some hell-hole where he would obviously feel more at home. As for B*tch McConnell and the GOP losers, I knew they wouldn't keep their word to repeal Obamacare. I'm hopeful the thing collapses on its own, thus making its repeal unnecessary.
Two months later, her boyfriend "felt" a lump in her breast ... and he was an absolute pit-bull in dragging her to the M.D. to get it checked out. I was there with her family and fiance, when she went. One day after her 27th birthday, at that. As much as I despise John McCain, he's now in my earnest prayers. Because I hate cancer, even more. Infinitely more. Love one another, Horde. Love one another, now and evermore. There can be organizations that help you to find out what services are available. There are nursing services that can check up on health issues. Then there is assisted living. I've been pissed at AARP since they helped push Obamacare. I turned out ok. SO the shrink says.
--- So, there is this photographer I have to work with that is a diagnosed narcissist. He loudly proclaims he was diagnosed, but he was cured by his psychiatrist. I just kind of blew it off for a number of yeas, and just thought he was difficult and quirky. Then it got bad, and I started researching. Narcissim be managed by meds and therapy, by not cured. EVER. So basically, his psychiatrist got sick of him, and proclaimed him "cured" so he'd never have to deal with his cr@p again. I guess what I'm saying is that as long as your shrink it's talking to you, you're good. However, when he suddenly slams the little notebook shut, waves his hand and says "it's a miracle, you're cured," you're not. He's just tired of your cr@p and the money isn't worth it to him. Greetings, Horde! I've been up in the mountains the last couple of days with the Strangepork the Youngest (9 y.o.) This morning she caught her first fish, a little trout (not a very colorful one at all, maybe a Rainbow?). Not on a fly she'd tied, so not the perfect first fish, but on an emerger I'd tied, so pretty good. We admired and then released it. Now to read the post (ampersand) the comments.

"And I've learned from my experience that desire is 80% of
achievement. That if you really, really want something, if you really, really, really want to do something, that the vast majority of achieving it is wanting it. " I know this is true but that other 20% can be full of black swans and if you don't watch out you can bash your brains out against things which will never ever allow that 80% to get you to what you "really, really, really want to do." The hardest thing is that part in the Kenny Rodgers song. "You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em." Hard work is necessary for success but not sufficient. There is luck too, good and bad. The hard work improves your chances of making good luck happen and surviving the bad, but chances is all we ever get. I look back at the "bad" things that hit me in my life and realize that they are entwined with all the good that happened and any good I did for others. All of it, good and bad makes the puzzle that is a life. Can't go back and change one piece without changing everything that came after both good and bad. So work hard but appreciate the work for itself not just as something to get to a goal that may be unreachable. Posted by: geoffb5 at July 20, 2017 12:00 AM (d3wbb) 396

(Transcript - Via New York Times) TRUMP: Look, [Attorney General Jeff] Sessions gets the job. Right after he gets the job, he recuses himself.
BAKER: Was that a mistake? TRUMP: Well, Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job, and I would have picked somebody else. HABERMAN: He gave you no heads up at all, in any sense? TRUMP: Zero. So Jeff Sessions takes the job, gets into the job, recuses himself. I then have - which, frankly, I think is very unfair to the president. How do you take a job and then recuse yourself? If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, "Thanks, Jeff, but I can't, you know, I'm not going to take you." It's extremely unfair, and that's a mild word, to the president. So he recuses himself. I then end up with a second man, who's a deputy. https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/07/19/ transcript- of-president-trump-wednesday-interview- with-new-york-times/ Much more at link. If John McCain has to resign because of his health, AZ Governor Doug Ducey needs to appoint himself as McCain's replacement. He's a pragmatist and (like his would be predecessor) a strong representative of Republican values.

What ought to have been done: Before inauguration, collect all information and have the best lawyers lay out how there is no possible way this is anything other than the proverbial "nothingberger"; share this information with respected and neutral individuals who are still generally respected in the eyes of the people; release everything then refuse to ever comment on it again, aside from belittling any media personality that brings it up.
This, of course, assumes that there isn't anyone who cares more about ranting about the media than shoving this aside and actually governing. No comment on McCain. However, I was once again impressed by President Donald J. Trump and his lovely wife. Their message of sympathy and good wishes was proper, polite and done exactly as it should have been.
Trump was not my favourite candidate in the primaries; I was a Cruz supporter. However, he has impressed me quite favourably since he has been in office. I must admit being quite surprised at how good he has been. Plus, as someone who visits at Ace's, I have to give him full marks for putting stunningly beautiful women like Melania and Ivanka out there in regular public view. The thought of looking at Hillary for four years...ugh. We might all have WANTED quick-onset glioblastoma before that was over. Jeff Sessions is a methodical individual. He always has been. There is no "instant justice", just add water. Living in Newyorkistan, as I do, I can sympathise with shibumi's plight regarding the CCL...
In some counties (like mine) getting one's carry papers is fairly easy, but still a (n unreasonable) burden! In others, next to impossible! -- My county was the only one that had an acutal gun board. The nearby counties did not, are were more liberal in granting them. The CCL/CCW did a 180 when we got a Republican governer. Now it's not really hard at all, although you do have to go through 8 hours of training and have 3 hours of range time. Not unreasonable, but not in the budget right now. But it's everyday fodder for a Trump or Sessions in the political world. I will assure you of this one thing. The world of Corporate Politics is far more cutthroat that that of the political world. And is of a much faster pace, withal. I've lived that world, and have enjoyed the highest success and the resultant Icarus like decent though the clouds. As Majors go, I love the British Open because you are seeing Links courses. You don't see those often and they provide a different test. The weather is probably the only protection the courses on the Open rota has. Most modern day pro players chew them up with good weather. My favorite Major is The Masters. Nothing beats Augusta National in the Spring.

I like the Masters the best, too. I like that it's always played on the same beautiful course (though I would have preferred that they not change the course to "defend" par). But, honestly, I'd take pretty much any regular tournament over a links one. I just have no real interest in links golf. And by the measure of actual courses in the world, most other people don't, either. I prefer a course that plays well on a beautiful day. I'm not really all that thrilled watching people play in a hurricane and I certainly don't want to play in one, myself. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at July 20, 2017 02:52 AM (rZ+mb) 583
But the idiots at the Golf Channel and ESPN have been on some insane drive to prostrate themselves in front of the Euros. Sure, the greatest league in golf is the PGA. Three of the four majors are in America. The golf at the British Open is a style that no one plays. But they can't stop themselves from trying to make the British Open the most important golf tournament in the world.
It's all just very annoying. Its Golf Channel and NBC idiots now. :-) Yes, nobody plays links golf which is why the British Open is unique. I like it. I don't give a shit whether they call it The Open or The British Open. It came first so if they want to call it The Open, meh, doesn't bother me. I still call it the British Open. I think in order by age its; The British Open, The U.S. Open, PGA Championship, The Masters. The US and British Amateur Opens used to be Majors.

my favorite shot was tiger woods' 16th hole at the 2005 masters. he hit it at a 90 degree angle to the hole and it rolled to the edge, hovered and dropped in. greatest shot i've seen but others prefer other shots, usually from the sand traps like watson once. i think.

Mickelson's shot from the pine needles, between the trees, on the back 9 (can't remember the hole) was amazing. Also Bubba Watsons crazy slice from the woods to the green in a playoff to win the Masters was memorable.

pitching from the rough or a blast from a trap to the hole is as much luck as anything. but that shot by tiger at the 16th depended entirely on his read of the green and the preposterous angle needed.

Yep. It all came crashing down. Plus he had to cut down on his rampant screwing, which I think he might have needed to take the edge off of things or for whatever reason. Well, at least you didn't have to lock the dog up when Tiger came around any more. But during his time at the top he was the most focused athlete I have seen. Spieth got a good idea of how hard that had to be. He pulled a Tiger for a little over a year and he saw how difficult it was to keep that up. That little screw up at the Masters threw him off for a year. It just stopped Jordan dead in his tracks. But I think he's coming on for another run. I have Spieth picked to take this British Open. Tiger was a douchebag but he wasn't a pampered playboy. He earned every ounce of his fame. He was/is a dog but I don't think that was a secret with any of the people he hung out with. He just didn't want the public to know about it all. If only he hadn't been banging the neighbor's daughter - who got all frustrated that he didn't "love her" - then he might have been able to keep things going for another five years. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at July 20, 2017 04:05 AM (rZ+mb) 603
604: I don't know about that. Tiger's body was starting to break down in '08. That last Major he won (US Open) he basically won on 1 leg. It was really fucked up but he kept playing and won. He also severely injured him self.

Warning, LONG post below.
So, Jeff Sessions. President Trump gave three NYT reporters an exclusive interview wherein he really bagged on Jeff Sessions. This little tidbit is interesting: TRUMP: Yeah, what Jeff Sessions did was he recused himself right after, right after he became attorney general. And I said, "Why didn't you tell me this before?" I would have -- then I said, "Who's your deputy?" So his deputy he hardly knew, and that's Rosenstein, Rod Rosenstein, who is from Baltimore. There are very few Republicans in Baltimore, if any. So, he's from Baltimore. Now, he, we went through a lot of things. We were interviewing replacements at the F.B.I. Did you know [Robert] Mueller was one of the people that was being interviewed? HABERMAN: I did, actually. TRUMP: He was sitting in that chair. We had a wonderful meeting. HABERMAN: Day before, right? SCHMIDT: Did he want the job? TRUMP: The day before! Of course, he was up here, and he wanted the job. HABERMAN: And he made that clear to you? He would have TRUMP: So, now what happens is, he [Mueller] leaves the office. [Then,] Rosenstein leaves the office. The next day, he [Mueller] is appointed special counsel. I said, what the hell is this all about? Talk about conflicts? But he was interviewing for the job. There were many other conflicts that I haven't said, but I will at some point. So Jeff Sessions, Jeff Sessions gave some bad answers. HABERMAN: You mean at the hearing? TRUMP: Yeah, he gave some answers that were simple questions and should have been simple answers, but they weren't. He then becomes attorney general, and he then announces he's going to recuse himself. Why wouldn't he have told me that before? So, here is President Trump really laying into Jeff Sessions. God knows that I have been asking, "Where the hell is Jeff Sessions?" for months. Now, there are a couple of schools of thought on this: 1) This is a head-fake by President Trump. While he and Jeff Sessions have neither met nor talked to each other in months, that doesn't mean there is no communication between them. There are a number of people who could act as secure go-betweens to allow them to get their ducks in a row. The evidence for this is a) President Trump is a man who is extremely loyal to his friends and Jeff Sessions was really the first guy in DC to jump on the Trump train. b) Why would President Trump go the failing NY Times to bad-mouth a supporter of his. In particular, why would he use one of the reporters who has been the primary recipient of the majority of leaks that have been damaging to his administration? c) This seems like something done in a fit of pique, a lashing-out by a very frustrated President Trump, but we know he doesn't work like that. Therefore, the thinking here is that this is kabuki for the benefit of the media and the Deep State, and in this little set-piece drama, Trump is wringing his hands and bitching about how Jeff Sessions done him wrong and he is unhappy with him. Then, once everyone is sure that Sessions has lost the support of the President, he starts bringing the hammer down on people, possibly as part of a prosecution of the Hillary email shit, or maybe Obama illegal surveillance, something that is going to absolutely shatter the Deep State. 2) This is a long overdue signal by President Trump that he has had enough of a do-nothing AG, and he wants to see some action. The thinking here is a) He really wants Sessions gone, because he hasn't done shit. President Trump can't fire him, because look at all the grief that Comey's firing caused, and you can be sure that firing Sessions would be that x 10. b) He uses the New York Times to send the message in the strongest possible terms that Sessions must go. The hope is that once Sessions sees that the President is willing to go public with this in the NY Times, of all places, he will be so shamed that he will resign. c) "WH Insiders" claim that Sessions might resign as early as April. So, while I am personally unsure as to what is happening, I am inclined to scenario 1) because i) President Trump has always been very loyal and ii) really? The NY Times? But, I believe that what occurs during the next few weeks is going to be the proof of whether this denunciation of Jeff Sessions is real or just a shiny object with which to distract the media. Trump wants 'the wall'. Sessions wants 'the wall' -- and hates drug dealers and criminals. Civil forfeiture becomes the way to attack the drug dealers and take their ill-gotten gains and pay for the wall. Trump distances himself from Sessions because he knows civil forfeiture is unpopular with libertarians and conservatives. My two cents and worth every penny. It's probably bullshit, but an interesting theory nonetheless. Posted by: Blanco Basura at July 20, 2017 01:31 AM There IS something off about the jibes at Sessions.
