Say It Ain't So, Joe: Legendary Vanity-Rock Sensation Joe Scarborough Quits the GOP on Steven Colbert, After Admitting He Buys Into Liberal Progressive Line 100%

So, this Rock God, the Pensacola City Panic, the Amadeus of the Axe, this Solid Body Bard, this Billy Idol Shakespeare coming at you live from Stratocaster-on-Avon---

--- has announced to his millions of adoring fans that he's decamping the Republican Party, making this announcement on the place where Republicans come to discuss issues, the Stephen Colbert show.

David Harsanyi only briefly hints at how miserable this fink's (double hand finger airquotes) "music" is, to instead talk about his rampant hypocrisy for having done everything in his power to get Trump nominated as GOP candidate, then becoming a loud-and-proud liberal Democrat the moment he succeeded in getting Trump to that position.

Alternate hypothesis for your consideration: It wasn't hypocrisy, it was covert action. Maybe Scarborough has been a Democrat for a good long while, and was following the Democrat Conventional Wisdom that Trump was the weakest candidate the GOP could field and so it was in ever Democrats' interest to pump him up -- until he secured the nomination at the convention.

I'd be interested in seeing a timeline of Trump's delegate count vs. Joe and Mika's chilling relationship with him.

Certainly Scarborough's talking like a full-on prog lately -- this from Harsanyi's piece:

“I think maybe the last straw for me actually wasn’t Russia, it was the health-care bill,” Scarborough said at a National Archives event this week. “That kicks 25 million people off of their health insurance, and then they turn around and give tax cuts to the richest 1 percent of America.”

This is, of course, a standard liberal talking point, used in one form or another to attack virtually any Republican legislative effort to cut taxes or slow future spending. There’s nothing wrong with this line of attack, per se, but if you use it you should also have the decency to stop pretending you’re a Republican or a conservative.

A while ago he released an album. Someone - Jane D'Oh, I think -- asked when I would post about that. I did some research but realized that I'm just not a music critic and so while I can tell you his music is crap, I can't really tell you why.

I have failed at that, but maybe some musically-talented people can tell me, specifically, why this old man's attempt to be the John Meyers of 2017 just doesn't work.

Below, some terrible, terrible music.

I've lived with the misery of these songs alone long enough. [Jamie Gumm voice;] Now you too will know my pain.

This one starts out like a song about Jesus Amy Grant decided was probably inspired by Satan and so she threw it away, and then segues into Scarborough trying to sound like Bruce Springsteen, and then into him doing this dewey ooh-ah chorus that sounds like somethng Hootie and the Blowfish might have worked on before throwing it out, deciding that it, too, was probably inspired by Satan.

This song has a bunch of loud horns to tell you "It's Party Time, Get Ready to Rock!!" and then he starts doing some kind of Justin-Bieber-sings-the-Beach-Boys shit. Then it goes back into "You Know It's Time to Party, Because Now I've Got a Black Backup Singer!!!" mode. Then back to Justin Bieber hanging ten.

It's a fucking mess. He wrote this song to show off his virtuosity in sucking in three different genres.

Also, it's inspired by Satan.

Hey, remember when Jesus Jones released that video using lots of topical news footage and everyone thought it was super-hip and innovative?

Aging debut mall rocker Joe Scarborough sure does.

One problem -- instead of writing an instantly-catchy song like Right Here, Right Now, he wrote a song that seems to have been inspired by Satan.

No that's not fair -- Satan would probably inspire you to write a catchy song, so as to seduce the innocent.

This song was inspired by Satan's Asshole, who's not quite as good, and thinks vocal distortion effects are like sooo cutting edge and trip-hop, yo.

These songs are shit.

And this fucker claims he's written 400 of them, and this crop, presumably, represents his top-drawer stuff, his most polished and catchiest numbers.

He says -- and I'm serious about this -- he'll be releasing an EP's worth of songs, say 5 or 6, like every two weeks, unless someone stops him.

43 Well Harsanyi sounds like a bit of an idiot.

There is a whole lot wrong with the absurd and outrageous crap about "kicking 25 million people off their health insurance".

Facts, for instance. 15+ million got kicked off their insurance by O-care. About the same number were added to welfare, i.e. Medicaid. And everyone continued to suffer rising costs, declining coverage options, and the medical industry - whose only important problem is massive, pernicious federal and state regulation and the insanity and oligopolies it leads to - continued to be distorted, suppressed, and limited.

If you're going to just stipulate the incorrect, demogogic crap that now passes for "talking points" by the racist authoritarian looters, than what's the point of you?

"This one starts out like a song about Jesus Amy Grant decided was probably inspired by Satan and so she threw it away, and then segues into Scarborough trying to sound like Bruce Springsteen, and then into him doing this dewey ooh-ah chorus that sounds like somethng Hootie and the Blowfish might have worked on before throwing it out, deciding that it, too, was probably inspired by Satan."

Since the song title on that YouTube video was "Let's Fall in Love," I just assumed it was the classic Harold Arlen melody from 1933, performed by every major jazz artist because it's such a fantastic melody.

So, I thought, "How bad could Joe Scarborough's version of this classic song be?" and foolishly clicked the video.

343 One of the things I've noticed about these idiot GOPes like Joe Scarborough is that they can't stop agonizing about all the demonrat voters who might lose their handout for this-or-that reason if the terrible conservative horde gets its way.

Thus Joey pisses himself about the GOP plan to tart up Obamacare- but I've never heard a single word from him or his ilk about all the Republican voters- like Michelle Malkin- who lost their insurance when Barrycare destroyed the individual insurance market.

Nope, its always about the democrats, the blessed democrats, who might just might have to pay their own way in life just this once, somehow, if the awful Republicans get their way.

Fuck you, Scarborough- and all your parasite friends.

The GOP needs to worry about the people who actually might vote for it, not the people who never ever will, because someone, somewhere, somehow, might ask them to take care of themselves, in some way.

No, I won't be holding my breath.

352 A search for Kid Rock Senate turns up several hysterical articles. One is about Lizzie Warren freaking out because this could be just like Donald Trump. She also says is this a joke?

That last one pisses me off more than IT'S DRUMPF ALL OVER AGAIN!!1!

Isn't Kid Rock a citizen? What, he can't decide to run for office? He seems like a successful guy and I've heard him saying conservative things, mostly about taxes. I think he's done a lot of charity work as well. Maybe he won't win, but he certainly has the right to run. The fact that the Cloud People keep freaking out about these peons daring to try and join there little club is enough of a reason to vote for people like Kid Rock.

Another article from The New Yorker is called Kid Rock's Senate Run Is A Terrifying New Normal. Skimming through it, it's as hysterical and pearl clutching as you can imagine.

Maybe the whole thing is a stunt, but the reaction is telling. We're not supposed to challenge these people. They've learned nothing from Trump and seemingly won't.

I have doubts about these songs being his, in that he contributed *something* to them, but the finished product isn't really his work. This is just my opinion as someone with some playing, production and (limited) writing. There's too much going on in the tracks and considering he doesn't have much of a background in music performance...

It sounds to me that this is the work of a producer/s and session guys. The familiar hooks and chord progressions, the arrangements, everything... sounds like a studio based creation for a celebrity. It's stunt music, I suspect.

481 Kid Rock for Prez ... 2020 ... after a short stint in Congress.

The left is going through nuclear hate meltdown ... the populist (not really controversial) America First tidal wave knocked out their generators and backups ... (Fukushima analogy) and now little guys like Scarbro'face are dumping little helicopter loads of water on the exposed nuclear fuel rods of hate.

or something like that ...

The GOPe wet dreams of replacing America First Trump, (who will maintain our sovereignty) with "global governance" and GOPe compliant Pence ... are fading. Bill Gates says close the gates in Europe ... even Macron says Africans should not have 8 kids they can't support. A tide is turning ... or so I hope.

Scarbutt's music is from Satan .. don't listen to those links or you will may be possessed by the demons of the left. Don't run to the devil.

That would work for a stronger military too, wouldn't it? A group of people decide we need to spend more on the military, so taxes are levied for increased military spending, even from people who think the military spending is sufficient.

It's true that the military is a function laid out in the Constitution, but the proper level of funding for the military is not.

It's getting more dangerous out there. Sure, I'm a bit older, but not that old. People are driving more recklessly and driving faster. Also they're texting while driving. Throw in the fact that my state is almost at the top of the chart for drunk driving arrests along with a lot of chooming going on and it's not as safe as it used to be. 604 Folks, in the last 3 years I have had 3 nasty road rage incidents.
No, I was not the aggressor in ANY of them. Any of the 3 could have
resulted in a severe if not fatal result for me.

Am I crazy for now carrying body armor in my vehicle and soon an evil "assault pistol"?

Posted by: Tilikum Killer Assault Whale at July 14, 2017 09:10 PM (hVdx9)

No, you're not if you can do it without problems.

It's getting more dangerous out there. Sure, I'm a bit older, but
not that old. People are driving more recklessly and driving faster.
Also they're texting while driving. Throw in the fact that my state is
almost at the top of the chart for drunk driving arrests along with a
lot of chooming going on and it's not as safe as it used to be. I pretty
much won't go out after about 9 at night anymore. There's a store
nearby that I'll sometimes just swing by during my nightly walk if I'm
picking up a six pack.

Here is what I have found. The people guilty of wronging others are convinced they are the victim and go after the "aggressor" full of self righteous fury.
2 of the incidents I have on video. On one of them I called the police and they did NOTHING. I do not want trouble, but if I am forced to fight I will. Really, I just want to try and tip the odds in my favor as much as possible.

660 re "That would work for a stronger military too, wouldn't it?"

The difference... lies in the field of civic virtue. A soldier accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body politic of which he is a member, defending it, if need be, with his life. The civilian does not.

There might be no Constitutional distinction between the two. (If we're REALLY going Constitutional, we'd have to argue that blacks and - in my case - first-gen immigrants didn't count, either, since not "posterity".)

But Heinlein thought there was an ethical distinction. And I tend to agree with Heinlein.

672 Tillikum, don't think you're crazy, but just a few geekish comments on your equipment ideas.

Unless you're wearing the body armor in the car all the time (not itself such a bad idea, though for the impact protection in collisions, not ballistic protection), how practical is it for road-rage scenarios? Stored in back seat, or trunk? How long to fetch and don the PPE? Just seems unlikely you'd have the chance to put it on.

As for firearms, wouldn't a service or compact semi pistol serve just as well? Seems like road rage incidents are intimate, face to face, when they turn nasty (unless it's all vehicular, in which case firearms have no practical use). Even a good snub revolver seems like a good choice. If you don't want to be making AZ license plates for years, seems something more modest than a 300 AAC AR-pistol would be easier for The Law to accept as a self-defense response.

Thanks for responding and the feedback. What seems reasonable to one person...
I have thought about how it may be seen that I have the items in my vehicle. Yes the average firearms ignorant person may not understand it. However, that is moot if I am dead.
The armor is on the seat next to me, which I may change by purchasing lighter inserts so I can wear it while driving.
In the last incident the guy was hiding behind his car door with a gun. IF it comes to lethal force I want to be able to reach the bad guy in such a situation. Hence .300 AAC and not a simple handgun.
Yes I understand a scuzzy prosecutor or attorney may try to say I was just "itching for a chance to blow someone away and the presence of such items proves this." Yes it is a potential liability, but I am not sure what else to do anymore.
BTW, one of the drivers I mentioned worked down the street from where I live. Small world.

People are on edge and have been for some time. I had the neighbors call the cops on me a couple of years ago because of a mail delivery I thought was placed in a nearby mailbox. Our addresses are almost identical except for street vs. circle. So I thought hey I'll just go look and see if it's in there. I didn't think it was a big deal because I'd actually gotten mail for him from time to time and I'd just walk down there and throw it in his box. Nothing ever happened. But this time someone saw me and the next thing I know two cops show up. I didn't even take anything out of his box because nothing was in it. Thank God lol. That would've been a federal offense. Nothing happened but no one ever came over to apologize so fuck those guys. When I get mail for him now I throw it away.

Posted by: Dack Thrombosis at July 14, 2017 09:56 PM (4ErVI)

742 That would work for a stronger military too, wouldn't it?"

That's all well and good, but it doesn't change the dynamic that taxes are a way to get pacifists and spendthrifts and people who don't believe that X is really a threat to contribute funds at the level of the discretion of the republic.

Forcing everyone to pay more is what taxes do. We couldn't let the market forces determine the level of safety for our country. The same thing is true with other public goods. There were some Tories who didn't want to pay for the debts occurred in the Revolution.

Let's see if I can construct a more on-target argument from what you wrote about soldiers. So, paying for more soldiers is a public good, because it creates more people who have given a summit service to their country which establishes a unique civic-mind. That might be valid. And I accept that to a degree.

By following up, I'm not trying to dismiss your point or caricature it, but illustrate another implication. But the supreme service of a soldier requires war, which at the same point invites either discretionary war or a necessity of war in which young men can initiate themselves into the Heinlein top-echelon of citizens. Now the idea that we must be at war, is ludicrous, so war remains discretionary, and the expenditure for it as well.

So on one hand we can increase military spending to create more citizens tested in the service to their country, and on the other hand we can wage war to refine the quality of that service. However, the latter is not a great argument for waging war, and although the first is a better case, it doesn't remove discretion from the equation.

Again, our Constitutional structure determines that a pacifist who sees no need for the military is going to pay MORE than he wants for a military. And while I don't find such pacifism a sane point-of-view, I don't think shooting up heroin is either. However, in the full libertarian model, people must be allowed to shoot up, because of the risk compulsion brings. As well our overriding individual discretion is something that at least requires consideration, even if it is not always a deciding factor (and it can't be).

Raising taxes for the military, however warranted, can still be cast as taking someone else's property that he or she does not want to give and using it along with my own, to my discretion, if that is similar to the prevailing will of the people.

I totally give to you that the military is a much more central Constitutional function--as well as a core interest of any government. If governments were instituted to protect the rights of its citizens, being overthrown by invasion is no way to do so.

Yuengling is actually a fairly small brewery. The company does not want to open a distribution region but then have shortages.

Sorry, but it seems like all the Ohioans are drinking too much Yuengling to make to California.

He never brandished the gun, but from what I saw movement wise etc, I am 90% certain he had a gun. He hid his right hand while beckoning with his left hand for me to get out of my vehicle and fight. Yes he was out of his car and standing behind his door while doing so. When the light went green and I made a left turn, I saw him throw something down next to his shifter. (late 2000 Dodge challenger stick shift). Google the interior of such a car. There is a nice space for a gun there.
My camera was down at the time so I don't have it on video. Because I was trying to avoid crashing into him I did not catch his plate. I did call 911 and him seeing me on the phone apparently caused him to break off and flee.

I have two theories regarding Hokey Joe's foray into 'pop' music.

Theory One:
Joe is laughing himself silly over the idea that anyone could possibly think he was being serious about writing music and making songs. He's getting a kick out of hearing people talk about how terrible his music is and how stupid he is for making it.
This theory has at least two problems. First, he has 'produced' too much of this crap for it to be a plausible practical joke. If it were just one - or maybe two - hunks of crap, we could more easily believe he was hoping to fool people into thinking he was serious while barely being able to keep a straight face and keep from busting out laughing every time he mentioned his "new album".
Second problem, Joe is such a hopelessly out of touch, traitorous asshole that it is all too likely that he genuinely believes this crap he's squatted out "isn't really all that bad, y'all. You know, it's worth a listen. You might hear a tune or two you actually like." - Too easy to imagine him believing this.

Theory Two:
Joe is completely serious about making 'pop' music and thinks he's got a latent talent in the early stages of development.

I strongly favor Theory Two. And based on it, I believe everyone (and I do mean EVERYONE) ought to stop making fun of this budding artist.
He needs encouragement, not ridicule.
If we can all just help instill a little bravery in Joe, maybe he can build up the nerve to quit his vapid and disheartening day job at MSNBC and go to making music full time.
If he's ever going to take that all important crucial step: he really need's our support to, y'all.

I plan on emailing him to let him know how truly inspiring and IMPORTANT his music is and that I hope he can find the time and resources to make a world tour happen.
Hell, I'll follow him - like The Dead. Someone's gotta be the first Grateful Joe Head. (I mean, besides Joe himself.)
