Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Thursday Night's ONT is FriedHeidy-ho neighborinos! I'm baaaack! A lot of you have been asking me where I was last week (full disclosure: Nobody has asked me this. Whenever you hear me say “A lot of people have *whatever*”, it's just a feeble attempt to seem relevant or a desperate cry for attention from my pathetic ego). I'm glad you asked. I was exploring Canada's arctic in the Northwest Territories. Here's a picture I took while floating down the crystal clear Hay River under skies that would make Montana jealous: Love That Chicken Did you know that today is National Fried Chicken Day? Well it is. I fried chicken for dinner, did you? If not, why not? Y'know, it's people like you ignoring the cultural heritage that makes America great that really tick me off. Get with the program Skippy! The Program Meme Wars! Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that an all out meme war has broken out between CNN and the Autistic Army of 4Chan and Reddit. Frankly, I don't give a fig for CNN's chances. Below is a collection of some of the best memes so far (WARNING: At about 4 minutes Alex Jones starts talking, so if you've already had your daily recommended allowance of crazy, stop there). Ahh, the finer things in life. It is important that one stop to savor them when they occur. Like this pleasant little walk down memory lane:
Here's a fun little quiz. Basically, what you have to do is draw each of the states freehand, from memory, using your mouse or I suppose your touch screen if you're on a tablet. The drawing is then scaled, compared to the actual state borders, and you're given a letter grade. It also takes your states as drawn and makes a map of the country from them. It's harder (and surprisingly, more entertaining) than it looks. What grade did you get for your home state? I got a B+ for Maryland. Musical Interlude Boats 'n Hoes! From the movie Step Brothers (NSFW) Problematic Cars, Highways, Internet, Films Represent ‘Spacial Structures of Privilege’ Ahhh, bullshit. Naturally, this is a college course at UCLA, for which students can earn a “diversity credit”. Higher education is nothing but a racket anymore. I have no idea what I've going to do when Little graduates high school. I'm honestly considering not sending him to college (unless maybe he gets into Hillsdale). He'd probably be better off in a trade, but even realizing that I have to fight my upper middle class bias against not having my kids go to college. No Respect Rodney Dangerfield is watching this guy from beyond and shaking his head. Imagine trying to rob a store and just being ignored before some lady shoos you out like a lost puppy.
Department of Duh! Shortage of eligible men has left women taking desperate steps to preserve their fertility, experts say Maybe spending generations denigrating men and marginalizing them wasn't such a good idea, huh? The article focuses on the question of mismatched education levels, but I know several women who are personally devastated because they drank the feminist lib Kool-Aid and missed their window for kids. One of Gingy's good friends is now forty. She's a lib who bought into the whole “You can have it all” superwoman crap, and her focus on her career has led her to this point in her life, childless and likely to stay that way. It's a shame, because she does desperately want a husband and kids, but the whole “Later, focus on YOU and your career now” attitude has ruined that for her. It's a damn shame. Bonus Quiz! I'd like your opinion on something. Take a look at the map linked here. (The triangles are traffic islands, I forgot to label them) You're traveling NW on Oak St. You plan to turn left onto Elm. There is an accident at the intersection, and the cops and vehicles are located as outlined on the map. There is nobody directing traffic anywhere. Do you proceed to point A and turn left, or to point B? I'd like to know, because a cop hassled me for the option I chose. Ultimate he let me go with a growl and a warning, but I still think I was right. Tonight's ONT brought to you by poor choices in acronyms: Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Just back from two weeks in Norway. Interesting country. Very lovely. Fjords are nifty. Bergan, not bad. Oslo, definitely a stopover not destination save the Viking Ships, Kon-Tiki and WWII Resistance museums, which are very nifty. Excellent sea food to be had of course. Whale, which I have had in Japan, was better. Muzzies, fewer than expected, most looked sad and lonely, obviously needing a couple of vodka martinis and a dance with a cute nordic girl. No jihadi beards at all - interestingly got off the plane in DC coming home to have 3 jihadi beards in the jetway pushing wheelchairs... speaking of cute nordic girls, all true and more... if I was single I'd arrange for a TDY or sabbatical there... HOT ladies in hot weather, Daisy's and minis the norm... English is universal... Pride week or wtf it was on in Oslo... very flamboyant. Mostly French tops with their twink bottoms and hamplanet dykes with rare lipstick lesbian sightings. So sterotypical in their presentations they have become uniforms, badges of entry and unconscious self parodies all at once. Rude shit heads for the most part. And the only time I have seen more trash thrown down was an Obama event. Really, very much old angry bitter queens, twinks, and screeching smelly harridans. May go back next year, cruise the fjords up to the arctic zone... but avoid the Pride event zone. If you are in the area, go see three museums noted above, well worth it. The Norwegian Resistance story is fascinating, and not well known to me at all. Posted by: In Vino Veritits at July 06, 2017 10:07 PM (cV6Cc) 83

Baby Sister Update
Yesterday, her friend Roni took Joyce out for several hours: "Here's a quick report from today's outing with Joyce. (We're leaving the adventure to Jessie, and the socializing to me! ) Today we had an old fashioned girls' day out- shopping in the Villages followed by lunch at TooJays. While eating her delicious chopped liver sandwich and potato latkes, Joyce was already asking, "When can we come back?" (I told her that if she's going to put pastrami on wheat bread with mayo, I may not be able to watch!).. Love you, Joyce! Never a complaint uttered, just sheer pleasure and gratitude." Joyce has such amazing friends. You toss them in baking powder with a bit of salt, then bake at low temp for a while before cranking up to high temp. Anyhoo, she will be working 3 12s a week, leaving her ample free time. Pretty sure I have convinced her to train to be an Electrician as well in her off hours. This thread needs a musical interlude, and no, "Boats 'N Hoes" doesn't count.
I haven't thought about It's A Beautiful Day in years. A friend had their self-titled debut album back in college, and we listened to it frequently. I never bought it myself and I don't think I've heard it since then. Fortunately, nowadays we have YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEe03e9wnpU This is truly one of the no-shit great albums of the 60s. From Wikipedia: The band was almost invited to play at Woodstock. When Michael Lang was negotiating with Bill Graham to get the Grateful Dead to appear, Graham insisted Lang put one of two acts that he managed on the bill. Lang then listened to a tape of both It's a Beautiful Day and the other band and liked them so much that he couldn't decide so he flipped a coin and It's a Beautiful Day lost. The band that won was Santana, who became stars overnight. Posted by: rickl at July 06, 2017 10:14 PM (sdi6R) 121

Posted by: In Vino Veritits at July 06, 2017 10:07 PM (cV6Cc) this sounds amazing. I've always wanted to travel long term to Norway and I hate travelling because trendies do it. But I'll make a sacrifice for Norway and the opportunity to plant my seed there. Not too far down the crazy matrix, but definitely far down the indoctrination matrix (except for one time she covered her ears and said "LALALALALA" when I tried to tell her something about Obama. Really. A grown woman. I would have been lest flabbergasted if she'd thrown off her clothes and started to blow me.). Lib down the line except from a strong catholic family so personally pro life. She had a conservative bf who we all liked for a year or so a while back, we all thought she'd turned the corner but she abruptly dumped him. Said he was an alcoholic. Big tits, hot body for a 40 YO. Both Oslo and to a lesser extend Bergan are very walkable and you can get into true local areas easily to/from attractions. Very nice folks, helpful without being chatty. Beautiful plumage. Can get from Oslo to Denmark or Sweden easily and cruise to St. Petersburg, former USSR slave states easily too. Easy traveling and not overrun with hipster douchebags at all much to my surprise. Do you proceed to point A and turn left, or to point B?
++++ Depends on the real life situation on the ground. Going by the pic, it looks like going to 'A' would be ok, but if there are cops and tow truck drivers walking around in that area, they will probably get pissed if you just drive in between them. Even if not, depending on how things looked, I might not want to drive into the middle of "their" area. Of course, driving to 'B' and making a sketchy left from there might be a problem as well, especially if there's lots of traffic and making that move would interfere with the flow. Posted by: Anon Y. I tried to rate the CNN app in the App Store, but either there are too many people trolling at once, or Apple won't accept any more negative reviews.
Under "title" I wrote: This is a news outlet? Then: I downloaded this app because CNN's web platform has the longest running scripts in the world and it times out on all my devices. When I opened the app, I discovered liars posed as journalists, who seem to believe it is their collective duty to gaslight the POTUS and anyone who voted for him. All of their sources appear to "anonymous," and all of their news seems to be nothing but an espousal of leftist propaganda. This is NOT journalism. Avoid. "The Bay Area is chock-a-block with aging spinsters who life has passed by, and who now find what solace they can in their cats."
Solace in that, yes. And in endlessly hating Sarah Palin. I remember 2008, and from whence the very worst of the psychotic shrieking Palin hatred had emanated. From that specific demographic. They'd been told that if they prioritized higher education and career development, ultimately they'd be on top of the world, and would have their pick, and would end up with the hot husband and the gaggle of kids. Well, no. And there was no small lingering bitterness. Then along comes SP, who inverted the prescribed timetable. Someone who snared the hot husband and had the gaggle of kids, and who only then launched what was, up till Old Man Yells At Clouds and his campaign staff of Democratic operatives sabotaged it, a meteoric career. If looks could kill, their collective medusan gaze would have vaporized poor Sarah down to free quarks. Didn't do that, but helped sideline her ascent. So just how vulnerable..... I mean disillusioned is this 40 year old feminist woman WeirdDave? Sounds like she could be flipped Right, any chance of this? Where does she fall on the hot/crazy matrix?
Not too far down the crazy matrix, but definitely far down the indoctrination matrix (except for one time she covered her ears and said "LALALALALA" when I tried to tell her something about Obama. Really. A grown woman. I would have been lest flabbergasted if she'd thrown off her clothes and started to blow me.). Lib down the line except from a strong catholic family so personally pro life. She had a conservative bf who we all liked for a year or so a while back, we all thought she'd turned the corner but she abruptly dumped him. Said he was an alcoholic. Big tits, hot body for a 40 YO. Doubt you could flip her though, the lib runs deep (parents are both college professors). Posted by: Weirddave at July 06, 2017 10:27 PM (CTvSA) She can be flipped. Women naturally seek to follow a man in their life, if they lead instead of acting like an estrogen filled fag. She sounds intelligent and borderline autistic as well. Probably likes quiet time, being told what to do by a man, and non degenerate behavior. Also, rebelling against her parents would make her panties wet. Oh and wants kids with good genes, but not perfect because 40 so must be willing to make a sacrifice here or there.. Just an initial assessment. I've made a post it note and stuck it on the fridge. All of the cops were over by the wreck (except for the one sitting in the cop car on Elm St, he's the one that jumped out and hassled me), and A is the point where you normally turn left. Aren't Norwegians the best and nicest people, except when they drink they can act like the Irish. I was engaged to a Norwegian in college, parents literally off the boat with grandparents. She looked Swedish and would get pissed off and fighting mad when people asked if she was a Swede. A couple of years later, I had a smoking hot roommate who was the youngest of 5 girls and was Norwegian. She was blonde and looked the Norway part. So I love Norway. If things go south in court, Norway is an option for me. I'll make it happen. Posted by: Widespread Pepe at July 06, 2017 10:51 PM (2qHjF) 279

jake- "Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasitic protozoan Toxolasma gondii. People with weakened immune systems, or infants whose mothers are infected during pregnancy, can develop severe illness. People commonly become infected by eating undercooked or raw meat, or by inadvertently consuming contaminated soil on unwashed or undercooked vegetables. Unfortunately, pregnant women or immunosuppressed individuals are often mistakenly advised to remove cats from the household to reduce the risk of toxoplasmosis. However, people are highly unlikely to become infected from direct contact with their cats. "

I never understood the whole "focus on my career" thing, even at the most fundamental of levels.
I pretty much have hated working, for the most part, and have tried to spend the majority of my life minimizing the amount of time I have to do it. The concept of setting aside things I want to do, truly value and enjoy so that I can focus on something that they literally have to bribe me with money to do seems entirely foreign to me. I have always been infinitely more likely to say "I'm putting off getting serious about working right now to focus on fishing, drinking high-end liquor and having sex with marginally attractive women." I guess I'm just weird that way. Posted by: Malcolm Tent at July 06, 2017 10:53 PM (acxjh) Posted by: t-bird at July 06, 2017 10:53 PM (kusha) 287

I think the way our schools address sex education does a disservice to young people.
I saw a billboard one day with a picture of a pregnancy test with a positive sign on it and the caption "The One Test You Hope Your Child Never Fails". As I continued my drive to work while sipping on convenience store coffee, it really occurred to me that we teach children that having kids is a bad thing. We show them movies on how being pregnant will ruin their lives, cheat them out of a career, cheat them out of college, etc. We make them carry a doll around or an egg all week to show what a pain in the ass having a kid is. We teach them how to successfully have sex without having the two dreaded side effects (STDs and Children). But the truth is, at 45, the only damned thing that I even care about is my daughter. I could give a damn about my job, diploma, the trips I took or anything else. Ask any decent human being the most important thing in their life and they will tell you that it's their kids. But we don't teach them that. We teach them that they can have "fur babies" or that kids are a headache. Proponents of teachers say "You couldn't pay me enough to deal with kids like those teachers do." I just don't get it. It's little wonder that we have a generation of self-centered narcissists coming into adulthood now that value the environment, animals, or various social causes as uber-important. We have stripped them, for the most part, of what should naturally most important, God and family, through a concerted series of efforts to denigrate those core values. Rickl, I concur with your recommendation of "It's A Beautiful Day". It got some limited airplay locally (NW Ohio / Detroit market) in the early 70s, but was often heard in SE Vermont when I was in college there '76-78. "Hot Summer Day" and "White Bird" are classics. Btw, bluegrass whiz Sam Bush did a fine cover of "White Bird" (and Jean--Luc Ponty's "New Country", and Robby Fulks' "Where There's a Road" too) on his disc "Laps in Seven"... give it a listen.

By teaching women that it's wrong to want babies in your early twenties, we've encouraged them to spend far too long with losers and users. They're embarrassed to admit that they want marriage and kids, so they can't convince themselves to dump a guy who isn't able to provide that. Instead, they create this lie that he has "potential" in order to excuse staying in the relationship. Posted by: Colorado Alex in Exile at July 06, 2017 11:32 PM (fKWf6) 420

I'm trying to remember one of the stories. I don't think it was either of my grandmothers (both born in the mid 1890s) but either their sisters or younger aunts. Anyway, whoever it was was very pregnant and it was cotton picking time. She was weighing cotton. That is, the hands would pick a bag full, then bring it back to be weighed, and they would be paid via the total weight they picked. Anyway, her water broke while she was doing that, and she just kept going and finished the batch, then ambled back off in the house and spit out the kid. She was back at work the next day. I tend to agree with Alex for the MOST part. One of my close friends is a single mom and yes, it is drama, drama, drama. And, at my workplace, I deal with divorced couples with kids periodically. The Moms are nearly always worse to deal with than the Dads. Often, they're crazy.
Obviously there are exceptions- widows, women who got out of an abusive relationship, born again Christians, etc. I don't think single moms should be discounted entirely. But, Alex is probably wise to be hesitant to date single moms. Posted by: Tickled Pink at July 06, 2017 11:46 PM (smD62) 454

Well, Alex, I remember growing up with a succession of stepfathers, and I'm inclined to say you're right about that. They all turned abusive toward me at some point, and my mom eventually left them.
I'm not saying I was completely blameless in this; I was a little bit of a punk when I was a kid. I'm just saying that they never felt the same connection to me that they would've toward their own children, so they were just incapable of bonding with me and straightening me out. Again, I'm not putting all the blame on them for this; I'm just saying they didn't have that emotional drive to straighten me out in an understanding and compassionate way, like a real dad would. They just kind of laid down the law and punished me harshly for deviating from it in any way, which didn't do much for my attitude problems. I have had the opportunity to help raise 7 kids, none my own. Adopted 2 of them. Never had any biospawn. Some helping other family members, some with ladies I was with. Loved everyone of them, miss everyone of them, never thought of them as anything other than my responsibility as the man in their life at the time. Wish I had done better by them. Although the two I adopted, 1 is AF Academy graduate rocket scientist and her twin sis is a history/theology/coaching sports grad that volunteers as a teacher to at risk kids. So they managed. The others... I did not have the maturity to maintain a relationship with them when their moms and I parted ways. I regret the pain they lived through, deeply, deeply. I wasn't good enough to know how to step up and do right. Current GF of 3.5 months has two, have not met them yet as we are taking things slow, not being retarded, I mean 17, anymore. We are both fine with that. If things continue and I hope and expect they will I will end up being some sort of male influence in their lives I expect - and hope. I suppose it's all in how you look at the situation. For me it was: here's my soulmate, she comes with a kid. Well, I guess I have a kid now. But I know I look at things differently. When I first spoke to my birth mom, my first words to her were "Hey, I haven't seen you in 35 years, what you been up to?". I introduced her to my mom as mom. "Mom, meet mom. Mom, mom". I still call them both mom, because both of them are. Things just are what they are, deal with them in the best way possible. Honda gold wings?
Posted by: Berserker- Dragonheads Division at July 07, 2017 12:07 AM (aMlLZ) Indeed, a succession of them. I bought my first GL-1100-I (Gold Wing Interstate), when I was 22 years old. It was a 1982 model. I bought it with 4k miles on it, in 1983. Rode to Gold Wing Rally, and people were asking me what I was doing on my Dad's bike. What they didn't know. I'd come up in Southern CA in the '60s & '70s, through minibikes, a Hodaka Ace 100, Yamaha RD-350, Suzuki Titan 500, Honda CX-500 and a few others forgotten to the mists of time. I had purged all of the motocross, road racing, high performance and crazy-ass biking out of my system, and just wanted to ride, tour and see the country from a comfy saddle and behind a cozy fairing and windshield. Which I did. And shall do, again. And for the "again" thing....there WILL BE an over-forty-foot sailboat in my future, sooner or later. That'll be my retirement home. If I do it right, it'll also be my Viking Funeral Home. Might need a fearless Moron or two to make that last one happen, but I'm sure Unka Palp will line you guys up with Glories in Valhalla if you help a bruddah out.....say, thirty or forty years from now? It's broken down futher. The risk for children living with step, foster, and even adoptive parents is higher as well, but not 8 times. Adopting a baby, and having no contact with the birth parents probably makes it easier for a man to bond with a baby.
Posted by: Donna&&&&&&V sez the Brewers are NO.1 in the NL Central for the next 15 minutes at July 07, 2017 12:05 AM (P8951) I don't think it's a question of wanting to bond, or not. A blood relation is different because one can usually see himself (or his wife) in a natural child - from looks, to personality to all sorts of quirks that arise out of ones genetic expression. This is not something that one gets to choose. It just is. And it certainly affects the relationship, whether consciously or not. Non-biological relations can be extremely close (even closer than many blood relations) but there is still a huge difference between blood relations and others, due to the traits, looks, actions, personalities, etc. shared by blood. 545 Czech girls are the bomb"
I was objectively speaking pretty cute until mid-30's. My older sister was the "the bomb" although she never thought so. (I know that some beautiful women really don't know they are beautiful, because I know my sister. She would be fretting about her hair or something while getting ready for a date, and I'd be sitting there in awe, wishing I would look so glamorous one day . I say that to her now and she rolls her eyes and says "Yeah, sure. Don't be so stupid." ) But the Eastern European gene is a vicious one. You can eat all sorts of crap until you are 30 -35, not exercise at all, drink like a fish - and you're fine in your 20's. Somewhere between 30-35 suddenly, if you don't start watching it you can become a babushka overnight. Sis had no weight issues until she became pregnant at 35 and blew up like a Michelin balloon. She lost the weight but it has been a battle since then. Same with me. Posted by: Donna&&&&&&V sez the Brewers are NO.1 in the NL Central for the next 15 minutes at July 07, 2017 12:36 AM (P8951) 581

It just struck me, that you could make on hell of an income, by simply "matchmaking" between the various Eastern European "marriage" sites, and their prospective customer/husbands here in the States. You just profile the hell out of the particular U.S. gent, and then "match" him, with say, the top three prospects from the various regions of which you have extensive knowledge. I have the feeling that your instinct as to the ladies' tempers, passions, intellects, ambitions, drive to social-climb (or not), sexuality and other qualities, would result in a rather high "accuracy rate", thus ever increasing your value in the marketplace. Pity though. Your bride would not be approving of what you might consider to be valid "Quality Control" measures as to the prospective "brides" in question. Posted by: Colorado Alex in Exile at July 07, 2017 12:24 AM (Bqh5L) Not many "liberated" women will admit it, but we are biologically programmed to find a husband and make babies, and then raise them. It's something we are pretty good at, given the right attitude and backing. My mom hated kids, all five of us, but she's fine with us now. Posted by: Weirddave at July 07, 2017 12:51 AM (jxEDE) You also have a zinc below the waterline, bolted directly onto the propeller shaft. Attend to it, or your propeller will soon resemble the surface of the moon. The engine zincs will be found as follows: Two on the lower midsection of the engine block. Two on the heat exchanger. IIRC, both are 9/16 bolt heads, and you need to be ready to INSTANTLY "plug the holes" when you pull each bolt. Two will gush engine oil, and the other two will gush coolant. Then, the actual "zincs" on those, are 3/8" diameter, threaded rods, that screw into a female socket on the backside of the same bolt you removed to access the zinc. Take your exact engine specs and serial # to your local marine store (West Marine, etc.). They'll sell you the right zincs. For the one on the prop-shaft? Your marina's bottom-cleaning diver changes those out, damn near every day. Ask him the price of his fee, and pay it. Late as usual, and we're into (impressively expert) discussions of marine mechanics and other things, as is our wont, but - Trump's Warsaw speech. Uh huh. It's a thing.
A direct, eloquent, and pugnacious declaration of intent to prevail in the "clash of civilizations". Perfect setting, perfect timing. Poland its former Warsaw Pact brethren in eastern Europe are locked in a test of wills with a lost, stumbling, foolish western Europe. It's actually not completely accurate to say that Dubya and his team never touched on this theme (it's just that the mosque-stalking and "religion 'o peace" stuff is seared, seared into everyone's memories). But this was the most aggressive speech, not focused primarily on post-9/11 security issues, since 9/11. Wow. Worth watching or reading. Posted by: rhomboid at July 07, 2017 01:20 AM (QDnY+) 632

Re: the traffic problem, I think I would go to A to make my turn, because it appears they left the turning bay open for that purpose. Going to B, you could impede the re-routed eastbound Elm Street traffic if you were forced to wait for an endless stream of south/west bound traffic on Elm Street.
But I'd say there is no "right" answer in this case. The road is obstructed by circumstances beyond your control. If ticketed, I would fight it in court, and simply say, "Your Honor, the road was partially blocked. I maneuvered my car to avoid the blockage and proceed on my way as safely as I could under the circumstances." Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 07, 2017 01:22 AM (XUcIQ) 635

"But this was the most aggressive speech, not focused primarily on post-9/11 security issues, since 9/11."
And, even in Dubya's purportedly "aggressive" speeches, he pointedly shied away from the concept of a clash of civilizations. Resorting instead to a raft of shopworn platitudes about how "Islam is a religion of peace". It's interesting to try to square the Warsaw speech by Trump with the Riyadh speech by Trump. Oh, Dubya had plenty of aggressive words, but they were mostly, as I noted, more narrowly directed to the concrete issues of the time. Of course he also lacked the strategic insight of so many who think the best prep for a global effort in which we teamed up with dozens of Muslim countries, clans, and other outfits to kill a particular group of Muslim troublemakers would have been to issue broad condemnations of and threats against the Muslim world in general.
And I am struggling to find the slightest tension between Riyadh and Warsaw - both times, a clear call to fight Islamist extremism, but of course with differences appropriate to the different situations and audiences. Posted by: rhomboid at July 07, 2017 01:34 AM (QDnY+) 640

Exactly right. Just move away legally from the mess and the police and then decide how best to detour back towards your destination. There's a lot of unpredictability especially as to how the tow truck will move. In fact, I suspect the tow truck was why you got rebuked, because your going to A upset the area of control that the local cops had set up as they were handling the accident - comparable to somebody getting into your personal space. But the normal flow of traffic was to A and it looks to have been illegal to make a left at B, normally. If the cops didn't want anyone going to A then they should have parked on of their cars blocking that road or put a cone down or something. I'm sure there were cones around, either in one of the cop cars or on the tow truck or something. But the cops certainly had no right to ticket anyone for following the normal traffic patterns if nothing indicated differently. So here I am at 0133L and about 35% of the way through Psychic Undercover: The SDF Paranormal Series Book 1 and I am going to stop reading it.
Why? First off Ariana being a psychic strong enough to fight off the mental will of a vampire queen who has been sitting on the golden throne for fifty years. Not buying it, making this character far too powerful so soon. Second reason? I can forgive Mercedes Lackey's Diana kinda falling for a hunky vampire in Children of the Night because that was the first time I encountered that trope. Laura K. Hamilton thoroughly ruined that trope from ever having any kind of appeal for me ever again. So to see it here with Quil, moving right along to conclusions. I just hope I am avoiding these kinds of pitfalls when writing my Tanya stories. Well, I completed the entire "draw all 50 states" test. It seems the average grade they dish out for each drawing is B+ -- about 35 of my drawings got B+s. I earned 3 A+s (for the obvious right-angle states -- Colorado, Wyoming and Utah), 8 As (again, for the states with the fewest jagged lines), one oddball C+, and three Fs -- none of which were deserved: Hawaii (I mean, I drew all nine islands, each approximately correct; for some reason, they gave me a F because the spacing between the islands wasn't accurate) and two other Fs that made no sense (Connecticut??).
Overall, I was shocked that in all 50 cases I got the basic gist of the shape right, even down to teeny details I had no reason to know. My final map looked surprisingly accurate -- but they don't give you an overall grade (they really oughta, to make it more satisfying). The hard part was getting my mental image onto paper -- I usually could see the state's outline in my mind, but struggling with the trackpad to create that shape is tough for me (I'm not much of an artist). Overall, I'm happy with my result. Posted by: zombie at July 07, 2017 02:36 AM (DQ4Fv) 661

I still remember thinking, "huh?" when GWB said, "either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists". Shouldn't that have been, "eitheryou are with us, or you are against us"? I always thought of that as a weenie thing to say. Posted by: bergerbilder at July 07, 2017 02:50 AM (lIZQs) 679

I have sort of an odd question, but one that I need to have answered, in order to curb my curiosity.
Have you seen the crap spewed by this Linda Sarsour about bringing jihad to the US? I was looking at her twitter crapola and she has a photo there of herself that makes her look very much like a man in drag. She wears a ton of makeup, and, well, I guess the question begs itself. I know she pushed that stupid pussy-hat march, and she thinks she's a woman, but I have my doubts. Anybody else have any info? I know, I ask weird stuff after midnight..... I didn't have fried chicken like that because Even though I'm a pretty decent cook, mine would never turn out a fraction that well. If I could, I would, but I know I can't, so I don't.
Long ago made the personal decision that some foods are far better done by places that specialize in them and do it hundreds of times daily, for years. At least that's what works for me. Examples are fried chicken, pizza, candy, wings, egg rolls, French fries, sushi and sashimi, etc. Now, if someone wants seafood pasta, steak au poivre, Thai beef salad, baked oysters in garlic sauce, shrimp in green curry sauce, etc. that is more in my wheelhouse. Morning.
The draw-the-states thing is annoying. To get a good grade you have GUESS what random scale they want it in. It probably has to do with putting together the final map of your drawings, but it would be nice if they'd give you a grid so you'd know the scale. I drew a goddam perfect Commiefornia and got an F. I got an F for Indiana just because I forgot to close the lines, so it registered as a big blob. I got a C+ for my home state, again purely due to my failing to guess what scale they wanted it in. And just f--k Hawaii. F--k Hawaii sideways with a pineapple, those impossible to draw bastards. I figured out about halfway through, you can just draw a damn rectangle for most of the states, especially west of the Mississippi, and pull a B or B+, whereas if you put any effort into it, you'll do worse. I have little sympathy for those "Ooh, my biological clock ran down." women. Since virtually all are college educated, they have zero excuse to claim they couldn't have seen this coming. But even more so, anyone who has so internalized "Put yourself first" has, in staying single, spared one lucky guy a lifetime of misery.

"Boats and Hoes" is stupid. Mind-freezing stupid. Rap itself is stupid and a pox on civilization.
Apparently Billy Crystal ad-libed most of his lines, and he had the cast and crew laughing so hard that it actually interrupted filming. Mandy Patinkin literally busted a gut holding in his laughter. I've never seen The Princess Bride and I don't think I ever will. Yes, yes, I know it's supposed to be wonderful, funny, heartwarming and all that. But I automatically put up walls when I hear people raving over something and telling me I must see it. I don't like being stampeded. And yes, I know I have often told people they "must" see such-and-such a movie or read such-and-such a book. I'm a hypocrite. And I'm rambling because this is going to be a very long day and I don't want to start working. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at July 07, 2017 06:38 AM (X6fMO) 717

The State of Illinois can't declare bankruptcy. No state can. The Illinois SC will take it upon themselves to manage the state's finances until a higher authority steps in.
The ILC has already mandate payments that more than equal what the state takes in in taxes every month. What is going to hurt is when the ILC mandates more than state can borrow and Moodys has already threatened to downgrade Illinois bonds to junk status despite this new round of tax hikes.
