I never imagined that I'd have more confidence in virtual friends than in people I know IRL, but that's the case. And it's OK. It's just a really strange time right now, and I do need to make some decisions by the end of the summer re: future employment.
Plus the constant crazy is just.. .weird.

So I was pissed, of course, and accused him of not caring, which feels like a safe accusation, considering the course of events.
He said he was trying to take my mind off things. Did I thank him? No. Did I freak out? Yup.
I told him if he truly cared, he wouldn't try to change the subject, he would try to talk me through it. And well...clearly he doesn't care.
I haven't heard from him since so either he doesn't care that I'm upset, he fell asleep, or he's mad at me. Or a combination of the three.

Before the visit to our house Feds went to "Bobs" house approx 6 a.m., broke in his door, put a gun to his head and demanded his phone and his moms phone. He was living with his mom. They said he was being investigated for child porn.
The next hours are a blur. I run home.. husband is beside himself. I call my son. What the eff is going on??? Mom.. I don't know.. "Bob" says he has no idea. They took my computer, his phone. Let his mom keep her phone.

Fast forward after months.. no years of delay and now Bob is going to prison. He didn't want a trial so took a plea deal. 5 to 20. They took him to Leavenworth today. He was like a son to me. In spite of all the stupid fucking shit he did and he did alot, that kid would not harm a fly.
Oh.. and for months I was followed.. I kept my phone in another room. My husband would drive to the local grocery store and just sit in his car, afraid to be at home.They will probably see what I just wrote tonight. I don't care anymore.

The biggest problem is people slow down at a merge point *and* close distance with other vehicles in *both* lanes, which brings the traffic to a stop.

In Venus world, a woman has a problem, she wants sympathy. She doesn't want to hear punch somebody, she wants to hear, that sounds awful, you must feel terrible. She wants to hear that you care about her problem, not that you want to fix it. Which is what you said - he didn't want to listen, so he doesn't care, talking it out is the "fix."
Not in guy world. Talk isn't a fix.
So the problem isn't that he is an a-hole - necessarily. He could be, I don't know. But sounds like you guys are both in Mars and Venus territory, and you haven't figured that out yet.

I can't get too specific but I was peripherally involved in one case where after the two parties copped a plea deal it turned out the police computer forensics people had never even looked at the computers to find evidence to support the charges.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever said that to someone I was in an actual relationship with.
IIRC, I've said to to co-worker type men who tend to blame everything a woman does on "oh, it's her period."
In an way, it's a giant get out of jail free card for women. You can behave badly because "it's that time of the month."
I suppose my point is that we can act badly at any point, not just for a week.

This reminds me of a college story. Girlfriend and I were going from one college to another to visit friends. She tells me to wear someting for the trip which would make me "easily accessible".
After about a half hour and a pint of Rumpleminz down her hatch, she gets grabby and then really went to town with the head in lap thing. Scraped the entire right side of my car against a bridge wall. Still drove it until summer after graduation. Thank God for 4 door cars.

Seems to me that the simple answer is that subconsciously, you want to be outside doing a physical job.
When you're stuck indoors, workingat a desk, your body rebels.
Do you like your desk job? If yes, well, a stand up desk might be useful, as well as walking during your lunch hour.
If not... might time to explore other options.

The "system" is something else. Most of have no real contact with it, except for maybe a speeding ticket. You have too much contact with it, and you discover the power of the "system" is real and spectacular.
One reason I am not totally on the law and order side of things is that people are relatively powerless against the system. If you have more contact than usual, you have a greater chance of ending up in a no-win situation.
We had a family situation and we brushed up against the system, and I start sounding like a crazy person when I talk about it.

Are you really anxious at work because of social or other situations? That could cause chest tightness. Or being stooped or slumped for long times. Watch how you sit for the sciatica, and walk frequently if possible. Sitting in a twisted or uneven manner can start messing up the muscles and lead to joint or nerve problems.

50 yrs. ago, on the day before Mother's Day, three young men were killed within 5 minutes in Viet Nam. These young men were Navy Corpsmen with a Marine line company. I was the Sr. Corpsman in the company - their NCO.
Although not a day passes without me thinking of them, the past 50 Mother's Days have not been celebratory events for me. I never talked about it - with anyone. Therefore my Mom, my ex-wife, and my daughter never understood my lack of enthusiasm for the event. Only after our separation (and in response to her previously suppressed anger) did I tell my wife - she told my Mom and daughter.
Last month's Mother's Day hit me alongside the head - "Damn! It's been 50 fk'n years!" The next couple of days were not good.
I've never been to the 'wall' - never felt the slightest urge. In my doldrums I hit the internet late one night and discovered that the 'Moving Wall' would be 3 hrs. from my home for a week this month. Today I made the drive.
I don't know what I expected; an emotional release, a catharsis of grief and/or guilt letting go, a moment of remembrance and honor for the fallen,. or something - anything - else. Nothing.
I feel no better and no worse for the 7 hour journey. I may have been hoping this would be a sort of pilgrimage, an expiation, an answer (but to what question?), or simply an opportunity to loosen the tension. The only tension loosened was that developed in anticipation of the drive.
Those young men are no less dead than the day I loaded their bodies on a helicopter. I owe them no more - or less - honor or respect today than I did that day. They were killed doing their jobs - treating wounded Marines. That I survived was due to my position behind a tree line when all hell broke loose - they were exposed. FIFTY FK'N YRS. AGO!. 'The Wall' didn't change a damn thing - and THAT bothers me nearly as much as the 50 yr. old images I see each night at bedtime.
So why am I posting this? I had hoped just writing it would be all I needed. Wrong. I still will not talk about this or other events of that year in any kind of face-to-face discussion. I think I need to 'vent' to the world at large and have chosen you guys for my forum and podium. I'm not looking for advice, solace, comforting words, or 'thanks for your service'. Just the space to post this.

I have relevant experience from a family friend that may be of assistance. Our family friend was targeted because he worked for an actual conservative Congressman.
He was stupid, and did a stupid thing, somewhat analogous to your son's friend. I went to his sentencing hearing, wrote to the judge, supported him with letters in prison, and have remained a friend since he got out.
1) Sentencing is on a matrix. For one image on a computer, without a previous record, a long jail term is unlikely.
2) Showing contrition and showing that the image was not saved, or displayed for a millisecond, should be useful.
3) The Feds pervert Justice with this. Absolutely. It's part of the swamp. Kill-files are your friend here.
4) People not used to the criminal justice system can still survive it. Even if they are a tad delicate. It is not a death sentence.
5) Play it straight and survive. There is a lot of post jail counseling and mandatory lectures & monitoring. It is a travesty of justice, but it is also a game to be played to win.
6) With good reports and time, expungement of the record is possible.

Exactly what happened to my neighbor. I came home to find an ambulance parked next door, and his wife told ne her husband had come gown with a fever, but could not stop uncontrollable shaking because he was having chills. ER trip fixed him up rapicly so he could get to regular doc the next. Don't mess around with a potential UTI!

I don't think "Bob" just happened to open an e-mail with some kiddie porn .jpegs as attachments. Because how would the authorities come to know the attachments had been viewed? There was probably a link to a Web site that was being monitored, and he followed the link, and got snared.

Also a vindictive ex, family member, or vindictive asshole can begin a whisper campaign and start reporting you to these groups and have others do it too if I'm recalling correctly?
Yes they target mostly bad people that are repeat offenders, but regular introverts get caught up as well unfortunately. And while they don't get arrested, they can get fucked with for a long time.

By always reporting the "junk mail" and "scams", the Boolean Filters have become VERY HIGHLY EDUCATED as to what are the Good Emails, vs. the BAD.
Don't change your ADDRESS often, if at all. Change your PASSWORD, with regularity, and learn how to make and use complicated, non-intuitive passwords that WORK.
For example. Pick up your TV remote. See the U.S. Patent Number? The UL approval number?
Bitch hard as hell to crack if you use those as passwords. But you don't have to write 'em down, and they're always at hand.
Just, every three months or so, find a new appliance to refer to as to it's numbers.
"Opening" questionable emails is a whole 'nuther thing. JUST DON'T, is the best advice, there.

I change my e-mail server password every so often now regularly, and use a random nonsense password generator to do so.
A couple years back, I got a notice from the ISP (Charter) that there was burst of spam coming from my email account. What happens is the password gets compromised, and someone then uses the SMTP server to send a bunch of crap.
The account is hijacked. How they gain access, I don't know. I thought their SMTP (outgoing mail) servers only took connections from their own IP addresses. Maybe that is spoofed or compromised somehow.
Anyway, after that, changing the e-mail password regularly became a thing I had to start doing.

The last time I turned this machine off was when I had to replace a hard drive, which was over a month ago. Now, I reboot every so often, mind you. I switch back and forth between various OSes, but sometimes I don't. Memory leaks and other crap will build up.
Now, one of my little NAS boxes runs an embedded Linux and that thing has had uptimes of months. OS continuously running for months. Windows can't make that.
I used to turn computers off, but stopped doing that over 15 years ago or so.

Everything says something about a person. The things a person chooses to have/adorn him or herself with say extra. How a person looks is important, too. None of this is any more shallow than having some deep philosophical conversation with said person, because words mean nothing, really (other than being able to assess intelligence, which is also a very important, but "shallow" trait). You can't know someone until you see what they actually do ... and that just takes too damn long to be of any real service in your day-to-day interactions with people and especially with people you have just met.

I always keep all my important stuff backed up on optical media so I don't worry about losing stuff (though you're more likely to lose shit in the act of turning your computer on and off frequently).

Sure ... but it's still a pretty good rule of thumb.
I wouldn't recommend letting a 14 year old drive you anywhere but I'm sure there are more than a handful of 14 year olds who can drive better than most 16 year olds (and certainly better than any Chinaman). But, as a good rule of thumb we have decided that 16 (for most states) is a pretty good boundary line for even letting them try to drive on the roads.

It is easier for someone sane to look like a loon than for a loon to look sane.
Superficialities are also signalling elements: they show what an individual thinks is important to other people who are considered important enough to cater to.
You may run into a crank who doesn't care, or more important doesn't care about you, but you may also run into someone who is hiding or camouflaging.
If it is not what you normally do, if it is camouflage, it often is done wrong, or with a sort of tin ear. Those are the things that people pick up in their gut.
We are preached at nowadays that people who are odd or don't fit or have this or that issue are mostly harmless, with ways different from our own and we should pay them no never mind (say that in your best Gregory Peck voice for extra credit). But the person who gets the problem is not the preacher but you. And the people preaching tolerance at you may not be honest brokers either, and may have their own advantage in mind.
I can not honestly say, nowadays, with so many people running around espousing things as normal that are out and out perverted and evil, that ignoring your gut out of politeness is a good idea.
The worst that can happen is that you offend someone who has 50 years of porn in his garage and owns half a Camaro.
He's probably used to it.

I know this is excellent advice, but not regarding CL. Most sellers expect you to come to them. It's not the norm to meet at some other location. I mean, I like nice stuff but am not willing to pay what it costs. That's why I buy cool stuff on CL. I mean, I have found some really great things through that medium. You seem to have difficulty in establishing an appropriate level of caution for your activities. When you are meeting strangers, their appearance, and the appearance of their home, vehicle, and clothing, and particularly their demeanor are all you have to go by.
For small CL items, a meet in a very public place is a sound idea. For bulky or immobile items, like non-operating cars, you have to go where they are at. A cautious seller might want to meet you in a nearby public place, and if he/she likes the cut of your jib, then you can follow the seller to his home. And you could always bring a large, armed (where appropriate) male friend with you, particularly if the meet is in an unsavory area.

I had a CL seller with a trailer hitch meet me in a supermarket parking lot in Tempe. And I bought a transfer case off CL, and the seller delivered it to my driveway, because he was on a road trip in that direction anyway.
IIRC, CL itself recommends buyers and sellers meet in neutral areas. Of course, a lot depends upon the nature of the goods being sold.

No. Here's the thing, the way you dress and your appearance is a reflection of you, and of the way you view the world. A person who has a neat appearance, hair cut, all that stuff, is demonstrating that they're organized and conscious of themselves. If they're very out of shape, that tells you something about their personal habits, versus if they're a gym rat with 3% body fat. If they're dressed appropriately for the situation, it tells you that they are aware of the sensibilities of other people. A man who shows up to a dinner date in shorts and a ratty t-shirt, or the woman who shows up for a professional job wearing jeans and sneakers, are demonstrating that they don't respect the people around them.
Furthermore, aesthetics matter to everyone else. Certain things are pleasing to look at, to the point of actual physical pleasure in some cases, which is why they often become fashionable. Suit and tie is one example on the mens' side. The right color combinations, the proper tailoring to emphasize a certain shape, etc. When you dress well, and maintain your personal appearance, you're making it easier for others to be around you and interact with you, because you're easier to look at.

The Feds use a few criteria for determining how severe the offense is -- By the age of the victims, and by the number of images downloaded. The number of images that makes it bad as in a major offense is 600+, according to a recent case discussed on this board. Also adding severely to the penalty is manufacturing or distributing the images to others. Much like drug charges, it's how deeply you're involved.
And since Leavenworth is named, that's a federal prison, the sentence is exactly defined after conviction/plea and there is no parole.

So, I can't really say more than that without betraying their confidence.
And I generally think people are total shit. Except I know just a few that defy the odds that make me hopeful about humanity. That's a hard thing for me, but anyone of these few people are exceptional but would be written off by most people using superficial standards

Last weekend they altered the logo in the upper left corner on the website to say "Black Rifle Covfefe Company". I thought that was hilarious.
So I ordered a bag last weekend. I chose USPS 2-day shipping, as my supply was getting low. It shipped on Tuesday with an estimated delivery date of Thursday. Fine.
I got home from work on Thursday to find no coffee. I checked the tracking information and found that it had arrived in Philadelphia, and then went to a post office about 30 miles from me. OK, so I should get it on Friday. No problem.
Tonight I got home from work, only to once again find no coffee. I turned on my computer and found out it was back in Philadelphia again.
So it took the USPS two days to get it from Salt Lake City, UT to Philadelphia, PA, about 30 miles from my house, and and another two days to *not* get it that last 30 miles.

However, a lot of people have this mistaken idea that they are exempt from first impressions. That they're entitled to a second or third look to see who they "truly are". It's usually bullshit. Who they are is who they appear to be on the outside. The few who are more than they appear should be grateful that they were given a second look.

And also I know you said that these sellers have people lined up behind you that want t buy and will go to their home rather than meet somewhere but do they really? Have you asked them to meet you somewhere fr the sale and they said no? And if you aren't doing this why aren't you proposing this before you agree to go to their home?

The stuff I look for is hard to find stuff that you can't buy in stores for as little as I'm willing to pay. It's niche stuff. I'm just a big cheapskate is what the problem is. I hate spending money and paying full price for anything. So I do this CL stuff to get around that.

I watched that video three times (it has slow motion too), and came to the unfortunate conclusion that she did NOT intentionally "throw herself in front of the car" at all, much less to save someone else. She was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was hit by the car along with the child. Neither of them had any time at all to react or move away -- the car just zoomed in and slammed them.
This doesn't mean she's a "bad person" or anything -- in fact, she's the tragic victim of a car accident that was not her fault. But to call her a "hero" is stretching it too far -- unless there is some video they aren't showing here (doubtful), the evidence pretty clearly shows that she was hit and did not intentionally try to save anyone. Nor was such a ting even possible -- it all happened in a split second.
I think the whole "hero" thing is just a narrative the media is trying to spin, to get people to disbelieve the obvious evidence of their own eyes.

This was my take on it also. I viewed the video several times, pausing as frequently as I could. It appears the woman saw what was coming and was simply trying to get out of the car's path. At that moment, it's doubtful she was aware of anything other than self-preservation. The vehicle hits her, knocking her into the child and mowing them both down.
Glad someone else saw it pretty much the same way. News being what it is these days, makes you start to question your own eyes. Thanks, Zombie. Saved me from feeling like a coldly-analytical SOB.

Yup. The FakeNews in our own country continuously reminds me of a quote from Dissident Frogman's "Cartridge vs. Bullet" video re the AFP (if you've never seen it, find it on YouTube):
"Since you will fake the news from Iraq anyway, it won't kill you to make the hoax a bit more credible."
U.S. FakeNews is not limited to politics. Pretty much anything and everything is being faked these days, as you will know if you've ever been eyewitness to some local news event, then either seen it reported on t.v. or in the local paper. Twits just can't (won't?) get the facts straight, however simple the story may be.
Speaking of the Dissident Frogman...after a couple years of seeming abandonment of the website, apparently he's back! A Goober search turns up a new site under construction.

??? Srsly? Wild strawberrys here in the south have already come and gone. Got gobs of 'em on the bank next to the house. They make lots of healthy-looking leaves and runners, but then the trees leaf out and shade them so much, they rarely produce fruit. And if they do, the birds get most of them. I got ONE this year, but oh, so yummy! So much flavor packed into such a small package! Good luck with your hunt, WWW.
I do same with blackberries in July...got a few "secret patches" along places where I walk the dog. Whenever I pass folks who say, "Looks kinda snake-y to me," I answer, "Yeh, I saw a 4-footer in there just the other day." hehehe
