Comey Releases Prepared Testimony To Be Delivered Tomorrow

He's sneakier than I predicted-- I figured he would honor his claim that he would offer "no legal conclusions," and just have his mouthpieces leak those conclusions out.

Instead, while technically offering no concrete legal conclusions, he keeps characterizing Trump's statements and actions as "concerning."

Which plays right into the media's game (go figure!): the media can never tell us specifically what laws Trump is accused of violating; they mere imply that he must have broken some law. Look how concerning this all is!

I'm not sure which part of the US Criminal Code covers "concerning" behavior, or whether Comey would invent an "intent" element of the Crime of Being Concerning if Hillary Clinton were to to be accused of "concerning behavior."

He does confirm that he did in fact tell the president, without being asked, that he was not the subject of any investigation at least on January 6th.

BTW, he did not make memos of his conversations with Obama. Fancy that!

41 Comey is trying to play both sides against the middle, but he's still on the horns of a dilemma. It may no longer be his job to make a legal judgment about the facts, but it was back then. Concerning does not equal obstruction.

116 The Comey/Trump thing is weird.

On one hand, Comey may be responsible for Trump being in office, because he let the Democrats run a transparently criminal side of beef.

On the other, Comey's failure to do his goddamn job, recommend indictment, and resign if Lynch down-twinkied him indicates that he's a desperate careerist weasel who apparently can be manipulated almost trivially, and as such manifestly unqualified for his office.

So unless there was collusion between Comey and the Trump campaign to keep Hillary simmering but not cooked through, it would make no sense that he should have had expectation of further employment after Trump's hand came off the Bible.

He should have been chucked out of the building in much the same manner that the Secret Service loaded the Boar's Head Delivery Van. Briskly and with no ceremony.

Posted by: JEM at June 07, 2017 03:10 PM (TppKb)

117 All this confirms some things I already suspected.

1) No doubt Comey is a terminal pedant, a fussy creature of protocol who obsesses over appearances. Sadly his pedentry doesn't translate to any kind of overarching respect for the Rule of Law (if it did he would have recommended Hillary Clinton be prosecuted). This makes him pretty much the worst kind of bureaucrat: someone who clearly cares much more about procedure than being a decenct human being, who values fastidious order over basic goodness.

2) Conversely, Trump has far too little respect for protocol. He always tries to make things personal. He always wants people to feel good things when they're around him, he wants people to like him. He's impulsive and careless. He like doing things from his gut rather than carefully considering things over time. He's highly improper and even inconsiderate at times.

So yeah, pretty much oil and water, Al Czervik and Judge Smails. ect.

Someone on Team Trump (Bannon?) was apparently internally arguing that Trump should upon taking office immediately fire everybody -- all the agency heads to include Comey, all the ambassadors, all of the U.S. attorneys, ERRYBODY.

Trump should be listening now to whomever it was that had offered up said advice. Taking it back then would have saved Trump a ton of trouble. Especially with the Obama holdover ambassadors, who are still snidely sniping at Trump.

1) Slow Joe is probably the only person on that side of the aisle who can handle Trump in a debate.

He'll just do his jackass laughing and spontaneous lying dealio. It seems to flummox most people.

2) All I can figure is that Romney's ego is desperate for some kind of redemption. Whether it's become the next president or save his bastard child, Obamacare.

One of the two. Maybe both.

That's because under Obama, the entire Executive operated with no input from Obama - he just read about stuff in the paper the next day along with everyone else. The "White House" or "The Pentagon" called all the shots.

Except for getting Bin Laden: in that one Obama made the call directly into the SEAL team leader's earpiece, "Finish him!!"

When it comes to political power, loyalty not money is the coin of the realm. Trump knows this, which is why he makes it a point to surround himself with people he trusts.

It works both ways, too: I strongly doubt Trump will throw anyone he trusts under the bus as Obama did on a regular basis.

I just don't see that based on actual historical evidence of his previous performance in political races. I don't even mean "well he made a showing but lost" he was utterly worthless and without a shred of hope in every single election.

Rather than take them at face value--ie, Trump didn't obstruct, Trump wasn't lying about being told by Comey he wasn't under investigation, Coates saying no one pressured him--they are still trying to make the facts fit the narrative, by saying "these hearings leave more questions unanswered.' Like what? They simply didn't get the answers they WANTED.

These clueless, arrogant, embarrassingly STUPID leftists in the media and their ilk have never ONCE brought this statistic up.

Instead they take something that proves criminal intent on the part of THEIR candidate and somehow manages to make the claim the two fundamentally opposed parties (Russian Communists Capitalist Republicans) are in cahoots.

Kamela Harris came very close today to getting sanctioned during the hearings. She went on and on demanding that the deputy AG PUT IN WRITING that Mueller has absolute independence to do and investigate however he likes and that he cannot be fired or removed no matter what he finds by ANYONE.

That independent prosecutor statute expired because it was unconstitutional and no one would dare extend it after the Ken Starr two year investigation.

She wouldn't allow the DAG to answer , as soon as he started to explain Mueller's position, she would start shrieking at him to answer the question yes or no. The chair finally told her to allow the DAG to answer the question, the DAG was really irritated by then, he kept drinking water so his face didn't distort into a FU woman expression.

I'm not buying the White Women excuse some analysts are floating about the districts shift. I have yet to see any convincing data that would explain a 20 point shift in 10 years. It is the demographic shift from immigration. Legals that have been naturalized and their that are kids growing up. Even more ominous is the early anchor babies are reaching voting age and will be a tsunami in 4 more years. You don't hear thei explanation as the Dems are gloating about it sorta secretly. Republicans are afraid to bring it up since they gone along with this disaster and don't want to alarm their voter that are being replaced with their consent.

416 With Trump suspecting that everyone was going to stab him in the back I don't think asking for loyalty is a bad thing . It's s like asking if you are loyal to the duly elected President or the the deep state, IMO.

417 "The most. Predictable. "Black Swan". Ever. "

I said in the Fall of 2015 that Trump could win by holding Romney's states and winning the Rust Belt with a Nationalist platform. In early 2016 I said that's exactly what would happen.

Ace called me a fucking cunt for this and banned me. That was the height of his Trump is a fascist phase because Soros-paid goons were disrupting his rallies.

419 Comey's loyalty was to himself first and foremost. The Country was a distant third. Second was his base, the groupies/flunkies under him in his office that he would save, after he saved himself.

421 417.

There was a lot of ugly name calling during the primaries.

I started to back Trump when it came down to him and Cruz because I knew Cruz would lose and I thought Trump had a winning platform if he could just keep his foot out of his mouth.

Especially since that idiotic "popular vote" thing has been pretty
well established to be from running up the vote in CA and NY, which the
odds of her losing were something on the order of sub-zero.

Not to mention that anyone who played with that damn app on Silver's site that I've only cited maybe a few bajillion damn times would have seen--as I did by early last summer--that the exact result we saw was a distinct possibility.

The most. Predictable. "Black Swan". Ever.
.
.
.
.No matter how many times we rehash the election it was clear from 2008 that the more hillary appeared in public the worse her numbers were. There is no denying that, she is horrible in person and the DNC tried to keep her hidden away but that didn't work.

The problem was the left invested everything they had heart and soul into hillary winning and they believed their own hype and they still have not come to terms with her loss.

They had plans, huge plans to remake America and Trump stole those plans from them and now they are lashing out at him with anything they can, even stooping to actually making $hit up and printing it as news.

This is an order of magnitude worse than Bush ever faced.

However, it was raising this very issue that got Trump over the top. NO other Republican, even teh Ted Cruz that many of us liked, would raise it bluntly and honestly like Trump did.

You know, a lot of us had our disagreements back then, but can't we all see that Trump has proven to be a marvelous bit of serendipity?

He WAS the right choice after all. Teh Ted Cruz, who I really DID prefer, would not have won. The rest of the GOP lot would have wilted.

433 Torch... Trump did ask for the resignations of all the Ambassdors and actually the media made a big stick about it. The person, if your preferring to Uk.. Is a acting Ambassdor, the higest ranking diplomat until they confirm Trump pick , which he choose Jan 19 , the senate is holding up everything.
He fired all the AG prosecutors that Obama appointed once Sessions was in place.
Trump doesn't a political party to protect him , like Obama and Obama still kept Bush's defence and FBI Director... The Dirctor is niot easy to fire before 10 year are up and Trump was hearing rumors he was under investagtion, . probably didn't what true, he found about the dossier in January. Political people were probably telling him not fire Comey because it would look like you did when found out about a FBI investagtio that public still knew nothing about.

434 Comey only talked with Obama twice in four years, and one was to say goodbye?

If we had a real journalist class in America, someone would be doing a story about how few times Obama actually met with people who ought to have been briefing him regularly on national security-related issues.

Posted by: The Regular Guy at June 07, 2017 04:35 PM (lMMMV)

435 He only talked to Obama twice , don't Obama interview for the job. So only one time to say goodbye.

Call bullshit.

436 DJT got Comey to publicly admit that Comey is a traitor.
Comey could not state who or what he, Comey, was loyal to.
No wonder Comey is afraid of being alone with DJT.

Comey betrayed Hilary.
Comey betrayed Justice.
Comey betrayed the Constitution and the USA.
Comey betrayed the FBI.

Comey is a traitor!

And he STILL has a huge amount of Obama holdovers that will make a stink and he'll have to fire them when they pull a stunt, and then the media will make them martyrs.

It's like Trump is incapable of solving problems until they are directly in front of his face and can't ignore them any longer.
Posted by: publix at June 07, 2017 03:03 PM (hVd7x)

I consider this to be Trump's biggest and most inexplicable error. Did he think he was gonna win them over? Did he think they'd act reasonably, out of a dedication to the U.S. and constitutional governance? His lack of action on this could bring about his destruction...

441 I see Comey's "concern" as being likely caused by his own earlier malfeasance. He let the Clinton skate many years ago, and then Hillary, of course, recently. He may have been involved in the spying on Trump.

It's like that photo of him trying to blend in with the curtain - he's afraid to confront Trump, because he has committed crimes, and Trump has no reason to protect him.

Posted by: Optimizer at June 07, 2017 05:32 PM (EnK/R)

442 BTW, ALL THREE case where Comey told Trump he wasn't under investigation are documented in this.

Posted by: Optimizer at June 07, 2017 05:34 PM (EnK/R)

443 First Republican up should ask him why he did not take notes with President Obama and what made him think he needed to take notes with President Trump? What would be the reason one president deserved this treatment, while another didn't? So politically motivated to me. He looks very very bad by confessing this at all.
