(Note: Montana election thread below)
I'm really in an IDGAF mood tonight because of a lot of things, so don't expect a lot out of the ONT, I just don't feel up to coming up with a theme or giving a lot of commentary. Lets start out with a language lesson:

Our Mothers as We Never Saw Them
It takes a long time before we can become comfortable with our parents as other adults, and even longer before they do the same to us. I don't know if the relationship ever equalizes completely, but when it does it is extremely rewarding. Still, it's weird looking through old photographs of my parents before I came on the scene. I have a picture of my dad as a young man riding a camel in Egypt as he traveled around the world. I can get intellectually that the young man in the picture is the same man, he certainly exhibits the essential himness that I know from him as a human being, but in that picture, he's not DAD, a figure that has filled (I want to say dominated, but without the negative connotation) such a large part of my life. I can't connect, there's no common frame of reference. Parents are people too. Weird, huh?
Fandom Doesn't Suck
It can be weird though. Man flushes his friend’s ashes down ballpark toilets across the land Speaking of fandom, this weekend is the lacrosse final four in Foxboro. My beloved Towson Tigers will be putting the spurs to Ohio State Saturday, and then (hopefully) crushing either Maryland or Denver on Monday. I'll be up there all weekend, if any Boston area Morons want to meet up drop me a line, my nic at gee, mail!, and we'll see what we can arrange.

A suggestion: make the men's pieces a damned sight thicker. I'd suggest, for leather, heavy braid - cobra braid, they call it, or even a sort of 8-strand braid, tapering at the ends. You want to emphasize the strength of the dude's wrist - 180 degrees opposite the goal with stuff for the ladies.

Crazy day at work. My old friend says she's not comfortable at our newer museum w/out a phoneline. We used to have for the alarm system and ditched ATT for a cheaper system. But she has a cell phone, WFT?
She's 88 I think Jules says that's just her way of wanting to get out of this. I guess she might be right. Hate to see her quit contributing, as I think that's what keeps her keeping on.

Years ago one of the guys I had working for me was big into LARPing, and made his own chain mail (butted links rather than riveted, so not exactly historically accurate). He made me a chain mail bracelet that I still wear from time to time.
But to be honest, it's more that I have fond memories of that crew than it being my style. That bunch used to gift me all kinds of weird shit. Toys, abalone shells, whistles and knick-knacks of all sorts.....they'd just appear on my desk. Eventually I had piles of that stuff. Still have most of it.

Just two days ago, I got a special edition CD of the Thompson Twins album, "Quick Step & Side Kick." (It was released as "Side Kicks" in the USA.)
Anyway, it also contains "b-sides and cassette remixes." So I was going through the list and found a song by the group: "Long Beach Culture."
OMG, I thought. Long Beach is my neck of the woods. Don't tell me they had some sort of connection to here, back in the 1980s.
So I did some digging. It turns out that TT had *another* song, with lyrics, that was a b-side, called "Beach Culture," and is about 5 minutes long. And then they did a remix of it, an instrumental, that's... 9 minutes long.
So "Long Beach Culture" is just a longer version of "Beach Culture." Duh. ;-)

Windows updated started about ten am this morning, more or less. It has run non stop since, passing the 4GB mark and closing in on 5Gb. I've had to buy more data bits twice, and trying to reach Verizon through a flood of Microsoft bits is sometimes not possible.
Included, free of charge, except for the cost of having verizon deliver the new features is :
a dictionary app that looks like it was a twelve year old's first coding project and is a string of library functions from visual basic. I had a dictionary app back in the early nineties, Random House, on CD for Windows 3.0 that was better than this kludge.
A three dimensional drawing program. I'm not an artist, don't draw, have no need for a drawing program. It would have been nice if Microsoft had given me a list of new features and let me choose the ones I wanted instead of forcing these 5gb (estimated) down my throat.
There was a sticky note app that is included. Sticky note apps are everywhere and most are free, so Microsoft had to embellish theirs with something they call 'insight'. Let's say your write a note to yourself to pick up a package at the post office tomorrow, and who wouldn't write a note to yourself about picking up the package? Well, Microsoft, Cortana, and Bing will scour the world wide web to find any and all relevant data even remotely related to your package and your post office. Like a map and directions, hours of operation, who the post office is named after and why, because you might not know where your local post office is located and Microsoft is just trying to be helpful. It's not like you can find directions on the net, or get a map, or ask your neighbor. If you include the tracking number of your package, Microsoft will even look that up for you.
You get a New McAfee. McAfee is bundled with the new computer, and if you pay monies after the demo period, you get a new McAfee. This one has a new feature where you can log onto your favorite web sites that require logon by your face or fingerprint. Since I don't have a camera or fingerprint scanner on this desktop, that feature is useless.
And apparently there is going to be a video creator tool for creating home video, unleashing your inner Cecil B. Demile, and allowing you to share your movie masterpiece with the world via social media (Don't know yet, download hasn't concluded yet). Who wouldn't want to be the next star wars guy, Fred Lukas, or whoever.
You get a new one drive, and new office software. Interesting thing about one drive and office software; there are different ways to invoke onenote and msword, and things you write in onenote or word are not available to you if you invoke the same program in a different way. Say you have additional user accounts on your desktop, and who doesn't have more than one user account, because we all know that surfing the web with a user account that has admin privileges is a bad practice, so you have an admin account, and a less privileged user account for web surfing.
Having more than one user account means that a good portion of those 5gb have to be downloaded for each user account on your desktop
I was going to say that it looked like the update just concluded, but I see the flood has resumed. No end in site.
Now if you have followed along, you might be wondering why I have Microsoft and not something else. Well, in my case, there is one app that only runs under window, and that is my internet service. Without it, I have no internet access.
Since this ongoing download has been interrupted several times, I have the fear that it is not 5gb, but one gb that, once interrupted, because I need to buy or data, or my data ran out and my internet was disconnected, and that one gb failed to download properly and has been repeating all day in a futile attempt to download before my data purchase are used up.
If this flood of shit from Microsoft is going to happen every three months or so, I'm seriously considering getting off the 'net.

It caused me a lot of grief with family because we had a shared data plan. The windows ten flood started racking up overage charges and the family was pissed and blamed me. The shit hit the fan on a day when I had no food in the house and family who spent winters in florida was upset about the overage. I thought it was an interesting situation to be blamed for the overage and inconveniencing those who wanted to winter in florida, while I had no food in the house.
I wasn't the only one in the family to have a new computer with windows 10. We haven't spoken since.
I needed to lose weight anyway.

Afterthought: I have written Access databases to keep track of documents, etc. that I needed to track for work.
Then Microsoft decided to "deprecate" Application.FileSearch, for reasons best known to themselves. Then I had to write 20 lines of code to duplicate the simple command that Microsoft had seen fit to "deprecate."

As I understand it, Last Man Standing is not owned or made by ABC, but by 20th Century Fox. ABC has to pay a premium far beyond what it would for a show it owned and produced itself.

That's becoming more and more of an issue in television these days 'cause the producing studio reaps the longer term rewards of syndication and streaming service deals rather than the original broadcast studio.
Also, most television shows lock up their series regulars for six or seven years at the beginning, so show costs tend to spike around that same time when contract renegotiations begin, and again, broadcast studios are expected to cover the increase in actor costs rather than the producing studio. Sometimes, they split the difference, but that's kinda rare.
Anyways, Last Man Standing is dead, despite online petitions and rumors and such. Fox isn't gonna swoop in and save it.

This guy is covered with random tattoos. He used to have one on his forehead, which has been laser removed.
Anyhow, at one stage in his life he was a white supremacist. In fact he spent time in jail for beating somebody very badly.
Anyhow he told me meeting Jesus got him out that dark place he was in, although he hasn't been to church in years. I invited him to come hear me preach in a couple of weeks. And he said he would.
It's all quite interesting to me. He's kind of scary-looking dude, with the tats, and uncombed hair, and less than perfect hygiene and unfiltered mouth but unfiltered mouth. But underneath it all he's kind of a sweet.
Just thought I'd share. Everybody has a story--often we don't know it.

Ignoring Wisconsin alliances, I think Walker was always seen by many in the Republican establishment as the most likely to break through the Democrat's impenetrable Blue Wall of the Rust Belt, and he went all Never Trump early and hard in order to protect his future claim to being national party savior.
I'd guess, if he had it all to do over again, and he believed Trump had any chance whatsoever to beat Hillary, then he would have hedged his bets.
Wisconsin is a strange, strange state in terms of their Republican politics compared to other states. Chicago and Madison cultural influences have done strange things to everyone there.

What's the deal with temp plates, anyway? Anywhere I have been in the USA, I see vast numbers of them. Here in Canada, they have stacks on newly-minted plates on hand to sell you when you register your car. The only "temps" are permits for a one-way trip, and are good for only as much time as needed to accomplish that trip.

If you push a lot of government work out of DC you could hire a broader cross section of people.
People get more conservative as they get older, and it also gets harder for them to move. The 23 year old with a college degree and no restrictions can much more easily move to DC then the 33 year old with a couple of elementary schoolers, who in turn can do so more easily then the 43 year old with a couple of kids in high school and a mortgage.

This is an important point. There is a lot of fraud and waste in the "social welfare net"...but there is also the government Leviathan stopping people from getting work.
I'm met people on BS worker's comp claims filed in the last few years, and often they are competing against low cost illegals in whatever their career is.

I've actually had this argument (ie "discussion") with my parents. They seem to have forgotten that as my ultimate authority figures, once I reached adulthood their words/opinions still carried extra heavy weight.
So even accounting for normal child rebellion, I still gave extra care to what they opined. Until one day I didn't any more.

It's been purple and will remain purple in future elections. Plenty of Republican governors, senators, and house reps in the last seventy years. Priebus didn't shift the balance of federal elections in any meaningful way. State legislature is a different story, but there, I'd say Obama had more direct influence on outcomes than Priebus ever did.

I think some early boyfriend, if I can disentangle her recounting of it, lured her into taking the pictures via flattery, but I suspect he was a pornographer and she didn't realize it. I'd say the large cities are the echo chamber. Something about urban living must isolate people from reality, and foster a dependency mentality. Blue America consists almost entirely of the major cities. Everything else is solid red.

I'd like to apologize for my sloppy prediction yesterday in the Montana election. After the republican candidate took umbrage at an aggressive reporter and shoved his sorry ass (or something) I predicted the people would look carefully at the incident, consider their respect for journalists and vote accordingly.
They did. Republican won by seven. I predicted five. I am humbled.

I agree with you. I was thinking of water in the bottle for nighttime, not juice or milk. A lot of people keep a glass of water beside the bed for when they wake up thirsty in the middle of the night.

ANN ARBOR, MI - The owner of Ann Arbor's Sava's Restaurant said Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials took at least three of her employees into custody the morning of Wednesday, May 24. She said they were being released later Wednesday.
ICE agents were in the restaurant, 216 S. State, around 11:30 a.m. and had breakfast before entering the kitchen area, where they took three people into custody, said owner Sava Lelcaj. She was not in the restaurant at the time.

It really is insanity. When you reject objective truth, you end up rejecting everything based in truth, thus rejecting everything that could ever possibly work.
Reality doesn't line up with their expectations, and it drives them utterly bonkers. They assume we have to be cheating, because we keep succeeding in a predictable fashion. Their philosophy doesn't allow that to happen - everything is random chance.
