Fake News: Scott Pelley Says Hillary Clinton's Health Must Be Great Because Hillary Clinton's Campaign Said So

Great piece by Ed Driscoll on an exchange between Scott Pelley and Mike Cernovich, the agitator/journalist who actually broke the Rice-requested-unmasking story.

Pelley says Cernovich is guilty of spreading "fake news" because he claimed Hillary Clinton had Parkinson's. Well, there was speculation to that effect, but that hasn't been proven one way or the other. A physician claimed that after watching some of Hillary's tics and odd pauses while speaking.

The doctor is a partisan (it seems to me, anyway), and his second-hand, inferential diagnosis is far from being proof. (FWIW, I've tended to buy into the idea that Hillary has some type of neurological impairment, whether Parkinson's or something else, but I have no actual proof.)

Seems an open question, to me. Cernovich's headline -- Physician Confirms -- is wrong, because the physician in question is not in a position to confirm, but only to speculate (informedly). So yes, a headline that greatly oversells the "news."

What's interesting in this exchange is that Pelley takes it as the Word of God that Hillary's health is impeccable -- because another partisan source (Hillary's campaign) says so.

First Driscoll quotes this:

Scott Pelley: How would you describe what you do?

Mike Cernovich: I'm a lawyer, author, documenter, filmmaker, and journalist.

Scott Pelley: And how would you describe your website?

Mike Cernovich: Edgy, controversial content that goes against the dominant narrative.

Scott Pelley: What's the dominant narrative?

Mike Cernovich: The dominant narrative is that there are good guys and there are bad guys. The good guys are liberals. Everybody on the right is a bad guy. Let's find a way to make everybody look bad. Let’s tie marginal figures who have no actual influence to anybody we cannot overwrite. That's the narrative.

Scott Pelley: That's not a narrative I'm familiar with. Who's narrative is that?

Does anyone believe that Scott Pelley is not "familiar" with that narrative, or does not know who is propagating it?

It's hard to take journalists as reliable sources when their first words to you are spectacularly false.

"Hello," they lied.

Later, they discuss the Parkinson's story:

Scott Pelley: You wrote in August a story about Hillary Clinton's medical condition the headlines said, "Hillary Clinton has Parkinson's disease. [Physician] confirms." That's quite a headline.

Mike Cernovich: Yeah, Dr. Ted Noel had se-sent a story to me anonymously, that I checked out, analyzing her medical condition. And --

Scott Pelley: It isn't true.

Mike Cernovich: How do you know?

Scott Pelley: Well, she doesn’t seem to have any signs of Parkinson's disease.

Mike Cernovich: She had a seizure and froze up walking into her motorcade that day caught by a citizen journalist.

Scott Pelley: Did you, well, she had pneumonia. I mean --

Mike Cernovich: How do you know?

Scott Pelley: Well, because that's what was reported.

Mike Cernovich: By whom? Who told you that?

Scott Pelley: Well, the campaign told us that.

Mike Cernovich: Why would you trust a campaign?

Amazing, isn't it? One story for which there is a claim but no proof is dismissed breezily -- "It isn't true," Pelley says confidently -- but another story -- that all Hillary had was walking pneumonia, despite us all seeing her have a seizure on video -- definitely is true, no questions, because "that's what was reported" in the media, who in turn relied upon Hillary Clinton's team's very self-interested claim that she's in the pink of health.

It seems that the primary difference between "news" and "fake news" is that the former comes from progressives the media votes for or with and the latter comes from conservatives the media votes against.

The quality of news being "fake" or "real" is not a property of the news itself, but of the person relaying the news.

Just as in every aspect of American life, the extremist left is determined to create a caste system in which some people are allowed to speak, and some people are not, and some people are to be believed, no matter how absurd their claims, and others are to be dismissed -- even if they're telling you you didn't see the seizure your Fake News Eyes tell you they saw.

It's a serious question:

Who, after reading or seeing this exchange, would ever imagine Pelley to be capable of critical thought?

Don't forget the "concussion" that she suffered around the time the GOP was doing their Benghazi hearings. An injury that made it impossible for her to testify under oath.

I think it is from aging and heavy drinking (like moron said above). Also the boink on head from dehydration. It is always dehydration (probably from vodka).

I dunno, but I have not (yet) had to be hauled up steps by others nor thrown into a van from "dehydration." I also don't (yet) have googly eyes that don't focus, but I have not (yet) had the special grand mal pneumonia.

However, I did not get the googly eyes nor have the grand mal pneumonia as the Hag frequented during the campaign. I guess the CDC named this "Hillary Pneumonia Flu."

It all goes back, my flying monkeys, to the day she done fall out in her home and Bill had her institutionalized, er, in hospital. She fell and got the sinus clot. Probably staggering to the bar and pulling clumps of hair upon finding the Energizer Bunny's thongs in the recliner.

Her special sinus blood clot, just like her special grand mal pneumonia, was not IN her wee shrinking brain, but ON top of her brain in her sinus. Or some squatch, complete with an x-ray to calm the masses. Just prior to her having to testify regarding Benghazi. I am sure this was just a coinkidink.

154 The thing that blew my mind about the Clinton "pneumonia" episode wasn't so much her collapsing in public, the gaggle of aides instantly moving to block the view of cameras, and her being slung like a sack of potatoes into her specialized medical van which sped away.

No, the really unnerving thing was how just a short time later, a newly sprightly "Hillary" emerged from her residence to wave for the crowds and the cameras, all of which were kept well back by a tight _cordon sanitaire_, except for the one little girl who somehow (cough) managed to get past the multilayered security to come greet "Hillary" personally.

Said "Hillary", upon examination of telephoto-lens images, being visibly younger and having slightly different facial features than the woman who had crumpled to the sidewalk two hours previously.

I thought to myself, holy mother of Hollyweird, would they actually be so brazen as to SEND OUT A RINGER in the stead of the actual Presidential candidate? A fake Hillary? That's the stuff of cheap novels and B-movies, isn't it?

But then I thought back to the ersatz "doctors" who had showed up at Obamacare rallies, in white lab coats and stethoscopes, to tell everyone how great Obamacare would be, and how those "doctors" had later turned out to be professional Democratic political operatives with neither medical training nor medical licenses. If they would fake that... what wouldn't they fake?

So I just don't know any more. I am no longer willing to rule out frankly outrageous potentialities for the deception of the voting public. Stuff I would have snorted at and dismissed as conspiratorial nonsense, once upon a time, now stays on the table for discussion.

I don't disagree.

Pelley, like so many of the leftist media, probably doesn't know anyone who doesn't think exactly like he does. All his family, his co-workers, his friends. And he, like they, all read the same lefty publications and watch the same lefty media that tell them all that they are smart, superior beings and that anyone with different views from theirs is just some kind of uneducated, low-brow, homophobic, islamophobic, raaaaacist bigot. And they all believe it. Because they want to.

It'll be interesting to see if my analogy between modern Democrats and the Whig party will continue.

The Whig Party had an amalgam of issues it was for, but it was mostly the anti-Democratic Party. It's why their only successful presidential candidates (W.H. Harrison and Zachary Taylor) were military men, generals, and politically opaque (especially in regards to Taylor, who never even voted).

At the moment, the modern Democratic Party doesn't seem to represent anything other than anti-Republicanism and, in particular, anti-Trumpism.

Now, these analogies don't tend to last very long. Perhaps the Republican Party was on the way to replicate the Whigs, but the Tea Party changed that direction.

Maybe the more appropriate analogy will end up being the Federalist Party, which just disappeared over a generation as the Democratic Party absorbed the different coalitions of the Federalist Party one by one.

Then she was the crusading Legal Aid lawyer, fighting to keep 13-year old sluts from sullying the good name of random, adult male rapists. And of course, her favorite narrative of all, Hillary as the nation's savior, breaking glass ceilings and keeping the world safe from big bad meanies like Trump.

I may have mentioned I was meeting an old acquaintance about possibly doing some work on a contract basis. Nothing is set yet but we may get something worked out.

But, they have to. Candidates still have to go out and interact with the masses.

Maybe at some point in the future, a political campaign can control 100% of everything through filters of both physical and digital varieties, but until then, you've still got to press the flesh. You've got to operate in spaces that allow for unpredictability.

If there's a lesson to learn from this, it's don't be so beholden to a political power player that you quite literally turn yourself off to real problems with their health, likability, and political clout.

I hate to say it, but Andrew Benintendi (probably soon to be known as Super Nintendi) is going to be the AL RoY. I don't think anyone else will be particularly close. But the Red Sox offense will still regress because of Papi's retirement.

Jon Gray is very good. Not good enough to lead the Rockies to the playoffs, but don't be surprised if he's a sleeper for a few low Cy Young votes.

Bryce Harper will have another MVP season after his down year. I think injuries were a big factor for his underperformance last year.

Trea Turner is going to be what everyone thought Billy Hamilton would be. 80+ steals wouldn't at all shock me. If anyone in the modern era is going to approach triple digits, it's going to be him.

286 Remember when Dr. Drew was allegedly fired from HLN for questioning Hillary's heath and refusing to apologize for it? I mean, Drew's rating sucked, which could easily have been the reason for his termination...who knows?

Anyway, his strongest evidence, that Hillary was seriously ill, was not her multiple falls and Where's Waldo glasses. It was her publicly released medical records. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about (the guy is an actual internist) when he was describing the cocktail of prescriptions she was taking. He maintained that the specific combo of drugs were quite dangerous and would only be prescribed to someone who was in serious danger of dying in a variety of ways. I do believe he described the prescriptions as something a Dr. would prescribe most commonly for someone who was at great risk for developing a blood clot in the brain, but i just cant remember. I should try to track down that episode.

Hillary being sicker than her campaign(!) wanted to admit is probably the most believable conspiracy theory of the entire 2016 election. Pelley really is a propagandist.

From what I've seen among liberals I know, the first response they have to whatever they see, here, or read in the media is to further the accusation along.

365 That probably-partisan doctor who speculated on Hillary's health? He did offer the correct disclaimers of "I'm not her doctor and I haven't examined her" as preface to his comments. And he's careful in other ways... he never used the word "seizure" to describe the weird things Hillary did, he says they were likely not actual seizures. The word he uses is "dyskinesia" which literally just means "bad movement".

I watched some video of him, and what he is saying is that Hillary's dyskinesia events were strong indications that she is taking a particular drug that is used to treat Parkinson's: Levodopa. Once a person has been taking Levodopa for ten years or more, the person starts having those dyskenesia events.

This link is to ZeroHedge. It has two good videos discussing what was really going on with Hillary.

http://bit.ly/2ouIlVu

IMHO it's a no-brainer that the pneumonia claim is a lie. Hillary had some sort of problem, and then 90 minutes later was fine and took a selfie with a child. For pneumonia this timeline is just impossible. However, 90 minutes is quite consistent with the time it would take to have a Levadopa dose and wait for it to take effect. Also, if she truly had pneumonia, it's beyond belief that they would take Hillary to Chelsea's apartment rather than a hospital.

I was brought up with the heroic iconography of JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the classic "there stood Jack Kennedy, TEN FEET TALL" line of guff.

Wherein we were told in hushed tones by Our Betters of the superhuman stamina displayed by Kennedy, whose iron will kept him awake for 96 straight hours as he handled the situation with steady hands and unfailing good judgement.

It wasn't until years later that the not very pleasant historical truth emerged, which is that Jack Kennedy was awake for four days in a row because his system was brimful of amphetamines.

Which is of course just what you want in a situation of terrifying thermonuclear brinksmanship: a President who's speeding his ass off to where he won't blink in a showdown with his Soviet counterpart because he CAN'T blink.

The Coliseum is a concrete bring with green on the inside.

And I say this as an A's fan who only agreed to go to San Francisco because the A's were in town that week.

True story. I was working in Tampa about 12 years ago and went to Rays game with my boss. Yep, it was just him, me and about 3000 others.

We were sitting right behind the 3rd base dugout and it was so quiet that my boss noticed a buddy of his sitting behind the 1st base dugout and they had a conversation between innings without leaving their seats.

I certainly won't make excuses for Loria and Sternberg, who are (well, were in Loria's case) terrible owners, but one problem is that Florida is a mecca for baseball fans *of other teams*. It's easy to find Dodger and Yankee fans in Florida - much harder to cultivate fans of a franchise with less than 25 years of history.

Of course you don't make things better by having crummy stadiums, bad locations, and having a fire sale every time you manage to contend.

The worst part is that the city was suppressing the violent attack info. They finally had to admit to it after that particular rampage was caught on film and went viral.

Maybe 5 years ago there were a series of gang attacks with baseball bats on people leaving bars at closing times - were targeting drunk, distracted couples - would swarm 'em and beat the crap out of them. Several ew incidents got on the news and then - whoosh! - no more news, no arrests, no follow-up, almost like it never happened. I hate living in a blue city!

Holy crap! That's crazy! Denver sounds like a cross between Colfax and Cinco De Mayo on steroids.

Denver should have cracked down on the Capital Hill area where this stuff started to fester 15 years ago. Also the Asian gangs, Latino gangs, and illegals. And the meth..... Well they tried with the meth but to be fair, it was overwhelming. And the street kids committing small hustles and crimes.

Other than that who could have seen this coming?

How shitty. When I was in Arizona at the Brewers games I saw the players signing baseballs for the kids before the games.

But then, since most of the current Brewers were just called up from AAA (ugh! "Rebuilding!") they're just a bunch of kids who are damned happy that someone wants their autograph. They might be back in the minors in a month or two if they screw up. Grizzled veterans nowhere in sight.

This is the untold story behind racial relations. A (black) friend of mine once told me about a time when some white guy was rude to him. Ignorant, I agreed, but think about this: would he rather be a black guy in a white neighborhood, or a white guy in a black neighborhood?

I pointed out that for no reason whatsoever apart from my race there are whole districts in every city in America where I would be at risk of assault or even murder.

Now there's some weapons-grade racism.

505 Same pattern as reporters calling it a "lie" to suggest that Obama is a Muslim. Their grounds? Because OBAMA says he is Christian, which is not probative at all because one of the most well known supposed instructions from Muhammad says that Muslims living amongst infidels should pretend to be infidels themselves, if they are in a position to gain strategic advantage from it, "because war is deception" (and in Islam EVERYTHING is war).

Obama is not just Muslim, he is Muslim brotherhood. He is straight up al Qaeda. That is why he worked 4 yrs to put the Brotherhood in power in Egypt, knocked off the al Qaeda suppressing Ghaddafi in Libya, backed al Qaeda against Assad, and abandoned Iraq to AQI (now called ISIS).

The Egyptians claim direct evidence that Obama is not just strategically on the side of al Qaeda but is an actual Brotherhood member, and they would know. Trump is ramping up with Egypt so If he hasn't yet seen what they have on Obama he will soon.
