George Bush Criticizes Trump

Eh, kind of annoying.

After eight years of silence on Obama, now he's got some advice for a president.

Former President George W. Bush offered what appeared to be a thinly veiled critique of his Republican successor on Monday, as he defended the importance of the media and immigration policies that are "welcoming."

...

"I am for an immigration policy that's welcoming and upholds the law," Bush said.

On the term "Islamic terrorism:"

He also echoed the reported comments of new National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, refusing to term terrorism as inherently Islamic.

"People who murder the innocent are not religious people," Bush said. "They want to advance an ideology. And we have faced those kind of ideologues in the past."

On Trump's battle with the press:

...

"I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy," Bush said. "That we need an independent media to hold people like me to account. Power can be very addictive. And it can be corrosive."

And:

"One of the things I spent a lot of time doing was trying to convince a person like Vladimir Putin, for example, to accept the notion of an independent press," said Bush, who cautioned that "it's kind of hard to tell others to have an independent free press and we’re not willing to have one ourself."

Do we not have that now? Is the press being "chilled"? Are they so frightened by Trump they're rolling over for him?

Seems not. Pro-Tip: People who are calling someone "Hitler" with no fear of doing so are probably wrong in calling that person "Hitler."

On claims that Russia had contact with members of Trump's team, and the need for a special prosecutor:

Bush said it was important to know the truth about any relationship between Russia and members of the current administration -- "I think we all need answers -- but dodged when asked if a special prosecutor was required to look into collusion allegations.

The only supportive thing Bush said is that people should "take a man for his word" when Trump says he wants to unify the country. He did point out that Trump had only been in office for a month.

Most of Bush's statements are fairly anodyne Beltway pablum. In context, though -- being specifically prodded to criticize Trump -- they're a Beltway pablum rebuke.

Eh. Seems to me that by criticizing Putin, Bush is guilty of a LOGAN ACT VIOLATION.

Clips of the Matt Lauer (!!!) interview here.

One thing that strikes me is that Bush was pretty ignorant of the press as president or at least posed as being ignorant of them. On one hand, I guess, he was trying to float above them.

On the other hand, he very rarely rebutted the actual opposition party in the country, the national media, and I know many of his supporters pulled their hair out begging for him to actually do some presidential communications on this front. (And trying, futilely, to do for Bush what he couldn't or wouldn't do for himself.)

Strange to me that guy whose Administration was hit by a thousand Grim Milestones and cooked-up scandals (Valerie Plame, for example) would be so kind to the media.

My theory is that both the Democrats and the semi-deposed Establishment GOP have few hands at the levers of power -- except for their friends in the media and the permanent DC bureaucracy, so both have some investment in cultivating those power centers and pushing for them to have continued power.

Or even expanded power: Bill Kristol tweeted he favored the Deep State over the Trump state.

In the Democrats' case, it's just more of their same strategy of 60 years. In the Establishment GOP's case, it's making peace with an old adversary to destroy an even more dangerous, existential-threat adversary.

It just surprises me -- in a way that perhaps it should not -- that so many "conservatives" are now taking the media's side, as it's tottering and wounded in a way that it has literally never been in my lifetime.

For some, it seems, the leftist media isn't the hero they deserve, but it's the hero they need.

Clarification: There is no doubt it is best to have a fair and independent press, just as there is no doubt it is best to have a sober and kind mother.

But what if the press is unfair, biased, incompetent, and lies like an actual propaganda outfit?

Wouldn't you prefer they recognized the problem and reformed themselves?

Similarly, yes, you'd like a sober and kind mother. But what if a mother is a chronic junkie and abusive to her children? Shouldn't she de-toxify herself both chemically and psychologically?

And if you don't insist on that -- but just babble on about how important a mother is, no matter how unmotherly she may be -- aren't you just a damn enabler to evil?

A lot of "conservatives" -- Crocservatives, let's call them -- seem to be defending the media while the media still refuses to admit it's done a damn thing wrong, and in fact is just doubling down on all its sins.

Mollie Hemingway makes this point a lot. She's often badgered, "Don't we need an adversarial media?" She says yes, but then points out the need to reform.

No one in the media, nor the Democrats, nor the Establishment GOP, wants a reformed media. Not now, certainly.

They want it in full partisan War Room mode, because they are short of generals in their armies at the moment.

So to avoid conceding the very real need for media reform and reflection, they dodge the question by framing the only question as "Isn't the media important?"

Why yes, yes it is. And a mother is important too.

But when I tell her to get off the crack, she shouldn't keep telling me that mothers are important and that it's unamerican to criticize moms (or apple pie or baseball).

It's also amusing to me that an industry devoted to the idea that they should lodge criticisms of other institutions and the targeted institutions should change their behavior in conformance with the media's preferences itself refuses to change its behavior, or even to recognize the legitimacy of criticism of itself at all.

Hey media, know what else is an important institution that protects and defends our freedoms?

The military.

Have you ever taken that to mean that the military is beyond criticism? Have you ever accepted the proposition that criticizing the media was unamerican and dangerous to our very survival as a republic?

Or did you always snicker smugly at that, knowing that scoundrels often wrap themselves in the flag and deem all critics to be traitors?

What's the difference in your case, assholes?

Are you just a special Revolutionary Vanguard with greater rights and privileges with all the sub-castes beneath you?

6 On the "Bush" so-called attack on Trump's muzzie ban et al:

It came from the Today Show, i.e. NBC so is suspect right off the top.

Bush has always been somewhat of a RINO and would have been worse if not for 911. And even after 911 his "religion of peace statement" was a load of horseshit. He has made himself blind to the true nature of muzzies.

For years, the left (and people on the, er, political fringes) have said "you conservatives are so gullible for thinking that your 'thinkers' actually believe what they say -- they're just making money off your ignorance!" and I defended them.

And now, well, it turns out that there was more truth to that than we realized. I'll bet you can find quotes from just about everyone on the right defending the media currently from, say, circa 2010, condemning the media in almost identical terms to what Trump is saying.

I think Trump could do a smoother job of his critiques but I give him full credit for blowing up this dumb idea that Republicans have to accept the media's terms. We in fact don't have a free and fair press, they are clearly on the Democrats team.

That's sort of funny, because Bush, and most Republicans, act as if the press was performing their job in good faith.

Trump's the only one who's treated the media the way they deserve to be treated.

(And trying, futilely, to do for Bush what he couldn't or wouldn't do for himself.)

It was worse than that. If you ever see Dana Perino describe her time in the White House you realize that not only did Bush not defend himself, he intervened to prevent his own people from defending him. Right now you have the media elite trying to decapitate the President of the electorate via some whisper campaign.

They allude to being in the know about all kinds of things without even providing any real evidence. So they want the electorate's choice--gone, yet that electorate doesn't deserve any real facts.

The Left's wish of "two Americas" has come true--with two different medias.

I do not know how you combat this rumor mill and conviction in the Court of Public Opinion--but the Left should be careful what they wish for--their machinations might become fully revealed.

Yeah I had the same experience on twitter. Finally got the guy to recognize that it was not a violation of the first amendment for a president to not talk to a specific news outlet. I mean, by definition he can't talk to all of them in the first place. The first amendment does not compel the government to talk to the press. It prevents the government from silencing and censoring the press. There's a huge difference there.

Lauer kept trying to pin "Muslim Ban" on things and Bush didn't take the bait. He rephrased his answer around the same policies he's pushed since 2000ish.

The monolithic main stream media always had an end point in the future. As the costs of disseminating news went down, the media was always going to be less necessary and powerful.

Rush in the 80s. Drudge in the 90s. Rathergate in the 00s. Trump in the 10s.

Each of these accelerated the decline a little bit. We may be able to see the end of the media's oversized influence now. Their power is diminished but they still push narratives successfully (Russia is still a thing? Muslim ban? Just wait until they finally get to the "Old people and young children will die with ACA stories"). I do think that it's less powerful than it was 5 years ago, and definitely less so than 10-15 years ago.

We'll see the continued degradation until we have a digital age version of the pamphlets and newspapers that marked the beginning of the Republic.

Congress ignored him, just like they ignored his budgets, each of which had serious cuts in spending in many departments and would have lowered the debt. Then, in the midst of the past election year fun times, when ole Water Balloon Head McMuffin ran, at the quest of Mitt (of this I have no doubt), the CIA was mentioned. Something then led to an interview by HW at some point after being elected President. He was asked where he was on 11/22/63 when JFK was killed. He did not know or remember. Now, that dog don't hunt. I was a wee redneck and I remember. Ask anyone over two yrs old and most will remember where they were when they heard the President was shot in Dallas.

This comment then led (and, sorry, I have no idea where I read this, poot-heads) to photos of HW in front of the book depository or whatevah in Dallas on that day. Plus a typed letter to J. Edgar Hoover as a witness to the shooting, signed by HW as a "Texas rancher." I dunno, but it seemed odd he could not remember, my flying monkeys.

I flat out loved W post 9/11. Did not love him so much his second term and more globalization no borders bullshite. But I still thought him way better than The Won, and still do. However, his policy was to never criticize those in office following him (read this as well). And, due to the Jebastomping, he is now criticizing a fellow GOP President. I don't like this, W. That's it!

One of the things I like best about Battle: Los Angeles, besides, you know, the aliens, is that it shows the military not only as heroes but also as smart and this is on a unit level, not the top brass.

Unit has to fight aliens. Unit is cut off from everyone else. Marines just figure that shit out on the fly and rescue people. Because our troops are capable and heroic, every last one.

Also the look on Aaron Eckhart's face when the shiny new lieutenant is all "This is what I've trained for" re: fighting aliens is a hoot.

225 I can't say "Bush is dead to me" because I loathed W. On the drive home I thought of several nasty things to post about him and his execrable family but will pass. One dispassionate, undeniable observation is worse than any hate or bile I could muster:

George W. Bush sent our young men and women to fight the ill-advised Iraq War. After it predictably went south, the Democrats and its media mouthpieces called these brave souls Nazis, murderers, torturers, name it.

George W. Bush didn't say one goddamned thing while the Democrats and their media mouthpieces trashed the soldiers, airmen, and sailors he sent to Iraq. Many of them died, lost limbs and suffered other injuries.

So George W. Bush remained mute while our brave young men and women were roundly trashed (please spare me the "Rove told him to do so;" who the fuck cares?). Yet W goes on NBC, which as a reminder hired his daughters as "reporters" (both of whom parties with Huma when they were certain Hillary would win) yet acquiesces in trashing a president with more manhood in his fingernail clippings than can be found in him, his faggot father, and fat, self-loathing brother.

Bush couldn't speak up for the troops when the media trashed them yet aided and abetted the enemies of the people so he could whore a book.

Fuck him, fuck them.

Dismantled the Administrative State, destroy the media, put the figurative torch to D.C. and everyone in it.

Not one drop of blood more from our troops until those three things happen.

I can't believe I restrained myself.

227 153 We are discovering slowly that Trump is not as conservative as hoped. We will discover more of that, I believe. Compared to Obama, of course, he's one of us right-wing nutjobs, but under normal standards I think we will look back on Trump to have been pretty New York City liberal in a lot of ways. Most of what he's done so far is simply undoing Obama idiocy in a loud and in-your-face manner. That's a good thing (in fact, just by preventing the Hillary Presidency the nation already has a win), but it's probably going to result in steering us to center, not to right.

Also, Trump played nice with the NYC Moonbat liberals when his career depended on it. He probably didn't like it. It was just a cost of doing business for him. Notice his policy choices are in direct opposition to any NYC Liberal standard positions?

It takes leadership to motivate the indifferent, and keep up the moral of those who would defend the country. The primary reasons were Saddam's funding and harboring of terrorists which was true and particularly meaningful post 9/11 and the fact that he was constantly violating multiple UN sanctions which he agreed to as a term of the cease fire, not peace but cease fire, and that he was shooting at America pilots enforcing the no-fly zone.

most of the middle easy lives under what we would call tyranny.

UN sanctions are toothless and meaningless.

The main selling point was, and has always been that Iraq was dangerous to the world, including to the US. That Saddam had the 4th biggest army in the world, was working on weapons of mass destruction, may have been tied to 9/11 (still no proof of that 16 years later), and that Saddam was in general a huge threat to world peace. Oh, and he violated a UN no fly zone that we set up around his country (an act of war, by the way).

I disagree with him on a LOT of policy. I can have policy disagreements with someone without thinking less of them as a person or diminishing their other qualities.

Many of the things that I think were mistakes, he fully admits to in "Decision Points" and takes personal responsibility without looking for scapegoats or making bullshit excuses. That earns a good deal of respect from me. There is far too little of that around these days.

He has always seemed to me to be a good, sincere man who I disagree with on a lot of policy points. I can respect that and, I'd guess given his history, that feeling might be mutual if I ever met the man.

I see Donald with a hammer, noticing nails all around. A nation full of Twitter readers is getting a full dose of motion, while the power of the false press prohibits, or impedes, actual action.

Nothing has changed.

Old tired people are still warehoused and attended by hateful foreigners. Our so called "leaders" are running for reelection after a couple of months in office.

The liberal press finds a way to thrive upon the shit that is being thrown back at them. Shit that they created. A perpetual motion machine, indeed!

Actually, no. Assuming those things that have been announced actually get done (which has not happened yet), I consider most of them not to be conservative policies, but centrist. These are the things BOTH sides should cheer for. The fact that we have half the country that thinks these are conservative policies is scary. Conservative policies would be eliminating or consolidating whole departments, rather than cutting some funding, and deporting millions of people who are here illegally, rather than just the "bad hombres". I have seen NOTHING on entitlements, fixing Social Security and Medicare, returning power to the states, indeed restoring Constitutionl government for that matter. Re: the post below, Ace's statement of "I guess we can thank Trump for waking progressives up ..." Yes I agree we have to thank Trump for a whole lot, beginning with tearing off the masks that the GOPe has been wearing for a long time, but I don't think he's waking ANY progressives "up".

They are on a different mission from us, and think things were moving along just swimmingly, if not maybe a bit too slow, under the last administration. The only think they have become "woke" to is the fact that they might not be able to continue much longer in their aim to destroy our country.

They don't want a panacea, they want total government control. They achieve that by stressing all of the support systems, welfare, health care, health insurance. They continue to achieve their goals by controlling education of our young, entertainment of everyone, and most importantly, the news.

President Trump has thrown the proverbial monkey wrench into their destructive works, while also making them tip their hand at every step of the way. (I know, mixed metaphors.)

Oscars last night was a prime example. They have become unhinged because they can't control things right now. They have always been awake, they were just complacent in that their elites were running the show--literally running everything. Prez Trump changed that for now.

I think, when the drink took him and he was humbled, his father seized on the moment to appeal to him to be more of an active player in their "order". Hence, the political career began. However, it always seemed like there was a continuous reluctance in what he did. That he started out with a degree of independence, and slowly gave in to the influence of those around him. Remember how he was anti-nation-building in the 2000 election?

He's a man who tried not to be part of the garbage that Trump is currently fighting, but couldn't keep up the fight all his life. Eventually he gave in, and at this point, he knows better than to single himself out now. If he did, I mean, he might end up the same way as Scalia. After seeing some of the sentiments of these tyrannical filth, I have little doubt that he's not off-limits.

Well, that's kind of after-the-fact rationalization. I mean, nuclear weapons would have been a game changer -- but everyone knew he had chemical weapons since he'd used them in the Iraq / Iran war and against the Kurdish separatists.

WWI-era weapons don't really inspire a lot of fear, I wouldn't think. There's a reason no one has used chemical weapons in a real war since WWI -- they're expensive, hard to deploy, dangerous to everyone involved on both sides, and really only work in trench-warfare like scenarios where you can gas out a trench.

334 >>The main selling point was, and has always been that Iraq was dangerous to the world, including to the US.

After 9//11, that's a pretty hard statement to make. 20 guys hijacking a few planes with zero armies behind them changed the world in a pretty dramatic way.

I do think the Bush family saw the Middle East a lot differently than many. Bush senior was considered a hero in Kuwait and much of the Middle East post the first Gulf War. And while it's a mess now, tyranny is a bit strong for how much of the Middle East was in early 2000. Ruled by depots in some areas, no doubt. But far from all.

Kuwait, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan a few others, I've never felt remotely threatened in any of them. But Iraq was definitely one of the despotic spots where a crazy person was involved in international terrorism, torture and ethnic cleansing. He was given a choice to comply with the terms of the cease fire. He chose poorly.

Disagree. Bush's answer came directly in response to Lauer quoting Trump about the fake news media being the enemy of the people.

Of course Lauer dishonestly refers to "the media being the enemy of the people" when Trump referred to the fake news media being the enemy of the people.

348 WWI-era weapons don't really inspire a lot of fear, I wouldn't think. There's a reason no one has used chemical weapons in a real war since WWI -- they're expensive, hard to deploy, dangerous to everyone involved on both sides, and really only work in trench-warfare like scenarios where you can gas out a trench.

Well, I mean, the various gases went from chlorine to much nastier stuff, and the delivery went from 'open the valves and pray the wind doesn't shift' to artillery, which was pretty reliable in terms of getting it to the other guys as long as you didn't have a handling accident...but even Stalin who didn't give a flying fuck about the lives of his troops didn't think the benefits were worth the drawbacks.

Spot on.

Context matters. Post 9/11, no responsible President could ignore Saddam's outright non compliance, support of terrorists, and outspoken threats against the U.S. Also, WMDs were found... just not in the quantities anticipated from the intel. Therein lies the rub though. Intel is always a best guess. No one knew. The threat was that Saddam could have cleared it all up in a second and lost nothing, but he chose to amp up his non compliance.

Now, compare and contrast: Immediately following Iraq, Gaddafi jumped up and volunteered to stop all his programs and became a model fucktard. He was shitting he pants and went out of is way to not be perceived as a threat or terror supporter. Now, he's always been full of shit but the fucker didn't even behave that well when Reagan leveled his house.

Fast forward around 6 years and Obama/ Hillary send the military to topple and execute him. No UN votes, no WMDs, no threat to the U.S., no authorization from Congress. Not saying the guy didn't deserve killing but, the country and world IS NOT better off without him. His replacement was ISIS and Libya brought ISIS up from the JV to a very wealthy owner of a nation... who then proceeded to attack our embassy on 9/11.

Obama and Hillary actually did in Libya what W is falsely accused of in Iraq, but no one gives a shit.

354 "I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy," Bush said. "That we need an independent media to hold people like me to account...."

Uh, the media is independent in the sense that the state doesn't control it, but, well, a state might as well control it. Not OUR state, but a state none the less. The level of ideological purity tests that you have to pass and keep passing in order to keep a job in 95% of the industry is telling that "independent" only describes their relationship with the government. With each other, they're interdependent. And largely ideologically in lockstep.

for that matter, the second part of that quote, "...Power can be very addictive. And it can be corrosive." explains why that is. Though the object of that quote is different than he means.

355 I have no proof, but I do not doubt Saddam supplied support to Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda. Maybe not for the 9/11 operation directly, but terrorist dollars are fungible.
Posted by: rd at February 27, 2017 04:58 PM (iT57s)

Seems unlikely.

Al Qaeda has always been a Saudi enterprise. They received most of their funding and support from Saudi citizens and the Saudi government going back to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan when bin Laden showed up with his check book and a handful of Arabs to support the Pashtuns in repelling the infidels from Muslim land.

And the Saudis and Saddam had bad blood over who was the top of the Sunni Arab pecking order in the M.E.

It seems highly unlikely to me that any official Iraqi money made it's way to Al Qaeda.

Hamas is a different story.

Leftist hacks inside government that illegally leak to leftist media, POTUS phone calls to world leaders, are not brave patriots. The are criminals undermining the republic.

The Russian/Chinese/Saudi contributions in the billions to Hillary is not charity, it is sedition and treason. Those that "report" it as charity and coverup and co-conspirators, not free press.

When former Governor, former Goldman Sachs, player Corzine reached across the MF Global locked wall and took $1.5B to cover his leveraged "gambling" debt on Greek bonds (or whatever, I forget) ... and it is reported as no big deal ... that is not a "free press".

Not entirely. It's long been known that Iran has harbored al Qaeda fighters.

Bottom line is the Middle East is extremely complex and tribal as much as religious. And we really don't understand all the tribal bullshit as much as we think we do. There are grudges and secret affiliations that go back hundreds and hundreds of years.

I didn't always agree with Bush's approach to the war but I never doubted he was trying to win with dwindling support which I blame mostly on the media that did everything they could to try and hamstring him. Valid points.

Saudi Arabia has been backstabbing and double dealing us forever... but we can deal with them. They're jackasses but they're generally more of an asset than liability in most cases, present less of a direct threat than Iraq or Iran or N Korea or...

Our handling of post-Saddam Iraq was a clusterfuck (W admits as much in his book and goes into a lot of detail on his mistakes). Right intent, naive and terrible execution.

Had Iraq gone according to plan... I think things would be vastly different. I think Pakistan and Iran would have rapidly evolved into very different places or been next on the list of "Place to make an example of and Sell Off to Walmart".

Last picture I saw of Bill it looks more like he's concentrating on taking his next breath.

Al Qaeda has always been a Saudi enterprise.

I think people make a serious mistake about Saudi Arabia when they talk like this. It is not a single unified bloc of like-minded people in a solid cultural agreement on policy. Its an oligarchy made up of a royal family with scores of princes each richer than Croesus, with their own agendas. Some are radical Muslims, some are atheist hedonists, some are pragmatists, etc, etc.

Are some Saudi princes big on al`Qaeda? Absolutely. Is the king? I don't think so, he seems midly religious and mostly interested in his family and keeping power and oil money flowing. But to act like its official Saudi policy to back terrorism or fund al`Qaeda misreads the situation.

Really? So, by definition, if you kill someone innocent, you're not religious? There's a commandment that even addresses that, and it's directed at all people, especially the religious, and there's no exclusion clause about killing making you "not religious".

Bush must've gone to Hollywood Upstairs Protestant Church next door to Dr. Nick Riviera's alma mater.

From a strategic standpoint, if you assume that Iran is the actual enemy and that we have been at war with them since 1979, then after the fall of Iraq we had forces stationed in its eastern border (Afghanistan) and southern border (Iraq), with Pakistan (eastern border) being compliant, and forces nearby in Georgia and Turkey. Things could have turned out a lot differently. Unfortunately, we had one party actively working for America's defeat starting with the 2004 election, then into 2006 when they took Congress, with the culmination being in 2008 when an actual Iranian sympathizer was put into the White House. Stalemate in Afghanistan, withdrawal from Iraq, and so-called nuclear deal (which is actually not a deal at all, just a cave-in on sanctions and payment for hostages).

Start a newspaper. Start a magazine. Start (today) a blog.
Where this is a real threat to our representative democracy is when most the organs of the press line up on one side. Then add to that their failure to deal with facts. Now you have an arm of propaganda that becomes a tool for one side of the political spectrum.
The threat is very real.

Absolutely. And it was worth a much bigger mobilization if you're going to do it and get it over with.

Bush 41 shot down Powell when he tried to weasel out of Kuwait, and in the end forced him to send in 400K troopers. Bush 43 did not have the experience of his father and was badly misled by his DoD on force size and tactics.

Once we were stuck in Iraq the Dems put the screws to Bush, and he was completely dependent on them domestically for the rest of his term.

Agreed. The force was sufficient to take Iraq, but not to hold it. I don't think anyone was prepared for how broken the country was. Normally, after the surrender, the fire department still shows up for work and the utilities still deliver electricity and water and everybody sorts out the new structure. In Iraq, everything had been run by fear for so long that the country was paralyzed without the state terror apparatus.

This is absolutely true. And I'm sure Rumsfeld would have agreed. The problem was that he expected supposedly-existing 'civil society' entities to stand up - but the ones that did stood up against us, and we didn't have the troops on every street corner to shoot them dead, as we had had in Japan and Germany.

There was a great piece way-back-when that analyzed the occupation force sizes on a square-mile and per-resident basis and concluded we needed 400K troopers in Iraq to achieve the same level of control we'd had in Germany in '45. Rumsfeld sent in half that, and then his generals went 'force protection' to avoid casualties.

Yup. Couple problems:
1. Bush himself said that he and his military advisors underestimated the rebuilding commitment and how generally fucked up things were with the tribes and groups there. Honest mistake, but a giant failure. He tried, and largely succeeded, with the surge but by then...
2. ...it had turned into a political issue rather than a war. Bush has a shit choice: Ignore the politics entirely, get booted from office, and let Kerry complete fuck shit up, or play politics and try to do what he could within the bullshit constraints invented by all the people who were "for it before they were against it".
3. Bush, from Day 1, didn't want it to seem like an occupation to the Iraqis. This was naive, IMO. You drove it tanks, ran Saddam into a rat hole, then started building a government of had picked people to form a democracy- a form of government never before seen and incomprehensible to the people there. Freedom itself is really incomprehensible to anyone there. I respect his intentions with this but it was friggin dumb. It IS an occupation. Stop pussy footing around that. It is a occupation because it needed to be and will remain so for as long as it takes to make sure the threat that caused us to go in the first place no longer exists.

In this day and age, when we have instant recall through the internet, their BS should be rubbed right in their facts.

575 I used to like and respect W. No more. To sit silent during Obamanation and now come out and give the pressholes fodder against Trump is disgusting. He is a globalist stooge. Prolly has some pizzagate buds too. ~spit~

577 There is no doubt it is best to have a fair and independent press, just as there is no doubt it is best to have a sober and kind mother.

Left does this all the time.

If you point out propaganda, you oppose freedom of the press.

If you oppose abortion, you don't care about babies.

If you complain about skyrocketing ObamaCare premiums, you hate poor people.

If you think maybe another already-redundant government program is not the best idea, you hate children.

If you don't want to buy someone else's birth control, you are restricting their access to healthcare.

This is why we must reflexively reject every premise of the Left.

580 486:

"Said it then ... will say it now. If it was worth all that we poured into it - it was worth a Declaration of War."

Don't worry, the courts will micromanage war from now on given what just happened out in the 9th Circuit. If a Republican is president he will be expected to follow the Constitution, and the GOP bootlickers who applauded the judicial interference with the president's lawful EO will get the sadz.

Meanwhile W remains a despicable bastard.

581 The media won't reform, they see not need because they think they are perfect.
Why change. Bush was way too quiet about Obama and squandered any moral authority that he had left.
Of course he is nice to NBC/Comcast as they hired his daughter after they led an 8 years charge to diminish his success and destroy his reputation. W biggest strategic blunder was not to fight the media and push back on their propaganda.
It was a colossal error and helped create the conditions for the rise of Trump.

582 1. GWB would never defend himself- so why should we?

2. The NYT now proudly features his Trump criticisms. Really? Before this they portrayed him as a dimwit who couldn't put two sentences together. Now what comes out of his mouth is pure genius... why, it's profound! Typical GOPe. Apologize. Prostrate yourself. Grovel. Beg for acceptance. A one-sided attempt at harmony.

3. Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Hussein O = 28 years of the worst leadership in our country's history.

583 Bush is preaching the Obama Fantasy Islam(tm) line. I prefer King Abdullah's take: "This is Islam's civil war." That's honest, not "What civil war?"

585 btw, if "killers aren't religious people", why do the #GetTrumpMedia call al-Awlaki and the Blind Sheikh "clerics" instead of terrorists?

And who holds the "Accountability-Holders" accountable?

586 17 9 for years i've defended GWB...

after today?

fuck that useless RINO POS, with a flaming porcupine, and shove it in with a tanker's bar.

he's dead to me.

I look forward to the reaction the Horde has towards Trump when he says something "unhelpful" after his presidency is over

587 3 reason bush doesn't like trump:

bush is a sore loser, trump beat jeb,

Bush never defended himself and is misunderestimated by history. Trump is like Ronald Reagan, he defends his principles proudly and loudly and gets his message out clearly. Trump is taking Bush to school and Bush doesn't like it.

Trump is an outsider independent of corporate donations working to keep his promises to working class voters, this is a threat to the establishment elite.

588 Physiognomy is real and Breitbart's greying hair and eyelid assymetry were signs I believe of poor circulation. There is a phenomenon of medical fragility that is difficult to diagnose except with an echocardiogram to image poor blood flow.

And then also abrupt increase in exercise level can actually trigger cardiac events. So I think the most likely explanation is that my hero died prematurely because he was physically unhealthy.

589 W is porking Michelle Obama. You can see that in that picture of the two. Obama was just a continuation of Bush 2, Clinton, and Bush 1. Why would Bush 2 criticize? NWO whores.

590 I'm sure Putin, watching a hostile press reduce GWB to impotence and erase his accomplishments, must have been eager to take his advice and loosen things up in Russia.
