It used to be Washington's birthday. Then they tried to combine it with Lincoln's (which wasn't a FEDERAL holiday,) hence "presidents."
The very notion of celebrating all presidents is loathsome beyond measure. Not even royalty requires that kind of worship.
Commemorating Lincoln on Feb 12 or Jefferson on April 13 ---whatever--- is fine. Have some speeches or parties. I'm all for it. But the national holiday should be for GW, period.

When the weather changes for wetter and cooler temperature, the habitat for these rodents expands. This also happens in the US Southwest with plague affected prairie dogs and in Central Mexico with some sort of corona virus and packrats, but the way.
As the habitat expands it brings them into contact with both people and with other species that can harbor the infected rat fleas.
As the disease spreads by rats, it infects people, and can be carried by people.
The major issue with the plague and fleas is that as it reproduces in the fleas' digestive tract it blocks the fleas' ability to digest, and the fleas become ravenous and will attempt to feed and infect not only other rats, but also other mammals that they normally don't attack, like people.
This spreads the disease at a greater speed than would be normal.
When the plague affects the lymph system it creates blockages and eventual necrosis at the lymph nodes which are the symptomatic buboes.
The plague can also affect the blood, which is quickly fatal, and can also affect the lungs, at which point the coughing up of blood and infected mucous can make person-to-person infection possible.

Diseases hitting novel populations also tend to mutate and change both to contact with other diseases in the population, but also to the susceptibility of the population to the disease. If it kills the host to readily it won't reproduce that strain.
There are stories of horrible symptoms to syphilis when it first hit Europe, too, things like full body chancres and such. Ew.
My favorite story of pandemics is how the Leprosy pandemic that started about 1000 AD was mostly scotched by the outbreak of the Tuberculosis pandemic that seemed to most readily kill lepers with the compromised immune system.

Basically, they took a PG-13 Dan Brown "thriller" approach to what should've been a fairly grim and bloody plot line and movie.
Brad Pitt flies around the world trying to find "clues" and giving us info dumps.

I was amazed to find out it was a Karl Lagerfeld because I mostly detest the haute couture stuff he has done at Chanel. It's pretentious, overworked, and often downright ugly.

She was our "puppy cat," loved greeting everyone who came to the house, would flip over for belly rugs. Just yesterday, I was taking a bubble bath, and she sat on the side of the tub batting at the bubbles and rubbing her head against mine.
I've never felt this way over losing a pet, I guess because she went downhill so quickly. I wasn't prepared. Our little Sandy stretched out beside her this morning when she began having trouble breathing.
This is so hard.

I can highly recommend Speechless. She plays the mom of a cerebral palsy boy, and is brilliant. It's also a nice show that gently mocks all the inclusivity/diversity types, and (to me, anyway) asks us just to be nice to each other, not fawning.

Never saw it but to me the best movie airplane crash was in Knowing. Knowing also had the best car crash scene. They were both so realistic it was disturbing.

You could do worse. It's not going to change your life or anything, but it's entertaining.
The book has way more detail about how it starts with Chinese being bitten while salvaging a drowned village that fell afoul of a dam construction project, Russia turning into a neo-Tsarist theocracy, what happens in the mainland US, the asshole who got rich selling a fake vaccine and then fled to a compound in Antarctica or something, the South African strategy, and a bunch of other stuff that would be too much to cram into a movie. On the other hand, Brooks tries way to hard to make every interviewee speak in a folksy stereotype of their nationality, which is kind of irritating. Fun story (interviewing survivors years after the war), but stilted writing.

My late wife took 18 years to die - sick for most of it and when she couldn't take it anymore, shot herself. We all knew it was coming - even the kids although they were too young to grasp what it all meant.
Stretched over that period of time, I had the luxury of preparing myself somewhat. But still, when it came, well, you know.
It was a shock but not a surprise.

See I just felt that way about him from the beginning. In that entire movie, the principal was right. He got a little psychotic about it, but he was in the right. My only comfort is that someone like Buhler does well in school and ends up a loser nobody in life sitting around in a trailer whining about his glory days.

They also like to take vacations, so it's hard to tell. You wouldn't think a cat could be impossible to locate for two days in a one-bedroom apartment, but then you find he's made a little nest under the dresser, and he's all "do you mind?". The next day, he's back to lounging in front of the patio door.
And when you have more than one, the vet will ask "is he eating and drinking and using the litter box?" and... well... someone is, so I don't really know.
It can be really hard to distinguish sick cat from cat functioning as designed.

I'm not sure I follow the math. We don't celebrate Hillary on President's Day, since she's not, nor has she ever been, a president. But, we also don't celebrate her on the other 364 days of the year either, since she is the Hildebeast.
By my count, that's 0 out of 365. Unless we can figure out how to drive that zero down to a negative number, I don't think we are celebrating Hillary too much.

TV series, but yes, it's worth seeing (at least the first season). It's kind of hard to explain to people, they aren't corpses clawing their way out of the ground, they're the same ordinary people you knew the last time you saw them, knocking on the door and unaware that they died years ago.
There was a US network version a while ago that looked like a shot-for-shot remake, but I don't know if it was any good. The original French one is on Netflix fwiw.

I kind of liked that other show he did with the two others where they would look at two similar restaurants offer suggestions and then decide to invest in one. I'm guessing that one didn't have enough drama and conflict possibilities though.

Thank you, hon. The worst part was having to take her to the weekend pet ER. They took her to the back to give her oxygen, and then we had to wait for OVER AN HOUR, for them to bring us back to euthanize her. I'm sure she was scared to death in a strange place. When they brought us to the "euthanasia room" (complete with a box of tissues), they handed her to me and she immediately began purring and talking to me that she wanted to GO HOME. I held her in my arms in the warm blanket they had her in, and my husband, son and I kissed her goodbye. She kept looking at me, saying "I WANT TO GO HOME."
It was at that point, we told them to put her to sleep. I held her, kissing her on her sweet head, until she passed. And I broke down like a crying bitch. I'm still crying.

My best friend, a U.S. citizen (American mother/Iraqi father) has a niece (Iraqi citizen) who was offered a fellowship at Texas A&M in her field (nuclear science). She is currently living in Germany where she just graduated PhD in the field.
Now it seems that A&M will have to wait 3 months before applying for her visa. Which means probable loss of fellowship.
My friend lives in Dallas. Do you think she should contact her Representative or senator to ask for help?
