Mansilencing: So This Is The Newest Stupid Shit the Left is Freaking Out About

Speaking of Elizabeth Warren, and her determination to break Senate Rule 19 (forbidding personal attacks on colleagues), Mitch McConnell said, "She was warned, she was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted."

This is now the New Hot Dumb Meme of the Perpetually Offended left, with the National Laughingstock praising this new "battle cry" and the pro-Obama/Clinton anti-Trump political action group CNN hailing the "rallying cry" and the New York Times writing about "The Silencing" of Elizabeth Warren as if Mitch McConnell through her up on a pinball machine and violated her with a rolled up copy of Roberts Rules of Procedure.

The imagery of a man silencing a woman struck some as all too common, and his language rang familiar with many women who had their own stories of being silenced.

"Nevertheless, she persisted" served as a hashtag-ready motto for women at the ready to break barriers.

And oh boy, did it ever! Here are some more Outraged Snowflakes:

Here,

and here,

and here,

and here,

and here,

and here,

and here,

and here,

and here,

and obviously here as well.

That load of stupid gotten from W Magazine, where I assume the W stands for "Weepy McSandyvag."

"#ShePersisted" is now the Big Stupid for the day on Twitter, and of course the Mansilencing now has its own T-shirt:

Here's another one.

I honestly can't link every stupid t-shirt these dum-dums have made. Just look for "#ShePersisted shirt" on Twitter and you'll see so many stupid designs you'll wonder how the species has survived this long.

This being the left, of course this Orgy of Ritualized Complaining would not be complete without some Social Justice Warriors criticizing the movement for not being sufficiently respectful enough of diversity in all its colors and sizes. Here, a fat woman complains that the people making these wonderful, inspiring, very original shirts have not thought to make them in sizes large enough to accommodate those with Alternate Sizing.

"What a dumb time to be alive."

110 I get the need for rule 19, and why it is limited to only attacks on the characters of the senators themselves. If the rule didn't exist, members would constantly be insulting each other and then trying to one up the previous insult.

I also understand why they don't extend the rule to others like House members, administration officials, the judiciary, etc. They want to be able to openly discuss whatever they need to discuss and that will include the workings of the other branches.

However, I think they would be better served by adding an exception to rule 19 for members that are being discussed for purposes of the senate's advise and consent role. If one of their members is to be confirmed for another job, the other members should be able to discuss the nominee with candor.

Not that I am defending Warren. The rules are what they are. If she thinks they should be changed, she should convince enough of her colleagues to propose and make the change.

1) keep this foolishness in front of the people that have handed power over to the GOP and
2) to exhaust these idiots so when the time comes to start the real work of dismantling the shit Obama put in place and closing down federal agencies that these idiots will be worn out.

It just looks like baiting at this point.

186 When I was in college, there was a job I really wanted. I didn't get it, because there was another applicant who was a minority. (This isn't supposition, the guy who would have been my boss in the job explained the situation and said "Sorry, I have no choice.") This hurt my feelings quite a bit, but at least he really was a minority.

I cannot understand why the left is not incandescent with rage over Elizabeth Warren claiming minority status and thus keeping actual minorities from having a chance at the jobs she took. I'd like to see race-based quotes eliminated... but if you disagree with me and think they are a good idea, isn't it a horrible crime for a white person to claim minority status and push down the actual minorities?

If a conservative makes any mistake it's a huge deal, a career ender, proof he or she is a bad person. If a liberal does something awful, it's fine. So I'm wasting my time hoping the left will care about this. But I would like to make the left live up to their own rule book.

Her defense was that she never actually benefited from claiming Indian heritage (yeah right), and she only did that hoping that other Indians would notice her and reach out to her. Yet when her college had its Indian festivals, she never bothered to go, so her defense is an obvious lie. Sad.

Despite winning 99% of the faux Native American vote, she garnered only 1 electoral.

Of course, as in the Hamilton/Burr duel, not such a good move if your opponent isn't as charitable.

I'm of the opinions that there are only 2 things that truly animate Democratic representatives in general at the federal level: abortion and federal funds to their donors.

The donor bit seems at least partially proven by how the Democrats when to the mat to defeat DeVos who represented the best chance to roll back the power of the Teacher's Unions at the federal level.

I've always assumed that the abortion bit was genuine, that they really thought it was a foundation stone to women's liberation (as stupid as that idea is).

What if Planned Parenthood suddenly can't donate as much as before? What if their money dries up because they've had their funds cut? Will that fight for abortion continue? Diminish? Practically disappear?

When I was hanging kitchen cabinets I seem to recall that a single screw would support 5,000 pounds of weight. Drywall won't support much, so subtract drywall width -- usually 1/2 or 3/4 from screw length. Get somewhere around the midpoint of 4" dimension (actually 3 5/8' because shrinkage (yes, they shrink)).
So... assume 3/4 drywall and 1/2 of 3.625 = .625 + (3.625/2) = 2.44 or 2 and 1/2 inch screw.

I agree. She would not have hurt Sessions; in fact, given some of the material that's come out since she'd have probably just looked the customary old-Democrat bag-of-stupid.

But I think McConnell has just reached that level of pissed-offedness that the rest of us hit around 2010.

=====================

Either he broke down a bit and cut her off, or he really was trying to give her a bigger platform for 2018/2020.

Assuming that Obama decides to not campaign, Republicans are going to need someone to run against. Hell, even if Obama does decide to campaign, he represents the past of the Democratic Party and not its present or future. He could still be a decent hate object, but I think the idea of someone who actually wields power is more effective than one who does not.

But then again, Republicans could always use both.

371 When I was hanging kitchen cabinets I seem to recall that a single screw would support 5,000 pounds of weight.

372 Honestly, it is a catchy quote, and very exploitable.

McConnell did the right thing, but tactically he erred in two ways:

1st, he didn't wait until she was done. If he had, there would be no "he silenced a woman for speaking her mind" crap.

2nd, he should have phrased the "she persisted" in a much more clear way.

By not doing that, he caused us to expend time and energy on the
defensive to destroy a very useful and exploitable meme of the Left that
McConnell handed them.

Posted by: The Political Hat at February 09, 2017 04:41 PM (OzJeO)

McConnell for once is doing things right... and it doesn't matter what he said the left would have been in outrage mode about it no matter what. If you are holding your breath for the left to only react when there is cause, you are going to have a very blue face.
Also, waiting to shut Liawatha down until she finished speaking would have defeated the purpose of shutting her down at all.

Modern "cabinet screws" are #2 Robertson (square drive). Which are quite slip-resistant.
Better quality modern Phillips screws also accept the Robertson drive bit.

I have no desire to do any "I told you so" type responding if/when she does. Instead it is my intent to point out, "did you see me bend or break, all while you were going through that? No? From someone who had not done well at life:

I think the worst thing that happened to my half-sister was that she was given everything and supported in everything in life because the hard situation she was raised in.
It was bad because eventually the family money ran out and the supporting friends got tired and went away too.

The best thing my dad ever did for me was to say, "I am sorry to hear you are out of money and your room-mates wants you to move out. I hope you can find a better job and a place to stay."

tough love is called that, I think, because it is so hard for a parent to say no.

669 Pretty much every spaghetti dinner I've ever had just rates as okay...except-

When I was a wee tad in Catholic School, during the Fall Festival they would have a spaghetti dinner cooked/supervised by an Italian Grandmother who made absolutely heavenly Spaghetti and Meatballs.

I've never had anything like it before or since that time.

They even started selling it the Meatballs and sauce in big jars. It always sold out in under an hour.

But, of course, being an Italian Grandmother from the Old Country, she cooked without a recipe. so, when she died she took the secret of that marvelous spaghetti and meatballs along with her.

So profoundly delicious that I can still "taste" it mentally.

*sigh*

But, yeah, every other spaghetti dinner = Okay.

To expound on that point, Senators cannot be sued (or arrested) for anything said while they are performing their duties, no matter how slanderous they get. The law cannot hold them responsible so Senate rules do.

These women - Elizabeth Warren being the latest - can't freakin' help themselves, they have to correct and fix you. To which I offer this from C.S. Lewis:

'Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.'

768 "What a dumb time to be alive."

-- John Ekdahl
---
People can complain all they want, but I emphatically said at the time how stupid the conversation on same-sex marriage got. I shook my head at the unmooring of words from their common meanings--and cut-and-paste collage reading of Loving v. Virginia, simply because dumb-fuck judge-oligarchs told everybody it was a sensible reading.

We've all emboldened the sophists on the bench. If we don't get Gorsuch on the SCOTUS in time enough to slap this silliness down, they'll just try to see how much more they can get away with. If this does get overturned at the SCOTUS, hopefully it will be with such force that Congress can immediately begin impeachment proceedings on the basis of gross incompetence for every judge involved in this decision.

Maybe such a forceful resolution like that could give us at least a few more decades before we have court-usurpations like this.

Until, then, Trump ought to dump every single refugee in Washington state. They want them, they should have them.
