Democrats Boycott Finance Committee, In Order to Delay Confirmation Votes on Treasury Secretary Nominee Mnuchin and HHS Secretary Nominee Price
They boycotted last night's vote and then again boycotted today's rescheduled 10 am vote.
Orrin hosta claims he hopes they'll show up for the next rescheduled meeting, but I doubt it. hosta is complaining that "this is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen" but I'm sure he'll roll over for the obstructionists because the only important thing is cowegiality and fwiends.Comments

Comity in the Senate is something that most of these people treasure. Democrats are shitting all over it.
Another thing that's important is that presidents be given prerogative over their choices for SCOTUS and cabinet positions. Democrats aren't doing a normal opposition thing, they're doing terrible, Ted Kennedy to a young volunteer, type things to the idea.
I think it might be enough to convince some of the more upstanding members of the upper chamber to nuke the filibuster.

He then was elected to the Senate in 1985 and has been reelected to the Senate every six years since. He has been elected Majority Whip, Minority Leader and now Senate Majority Leader.
He is a lawyer, a judge, and a career politician. He knows how to play the game. And he's not stupid.
He knows what he is doing, although I don't know that I agree with the risks of the strategy.

I am generally against any Senate maneuver that primarily involves not showing up for work.
Particularly because they are completely at odds with the spirit of quorum rules and the like.

If the plan is to wait until the Dems make themselves so obnoxious that the voters wind up demanding an immediate end to the bickering (because right now the Democrats are essentially shutting down the government), then at that point, McConnell can trot out and announce a vote to end the 60-vote cloture rule. They could even make it a temporary 3 month rule with an ending date, for that matter. That might be enough to pull in the RINOs. And the voters would sigh with relief.

They sure as hell show up for all the paid retreats, travel, and donor parties though.
Start making the fuckers punch a clock... like they mandate for more and more of the private sector. No show, no pay. Late, docked pay. For clarity: at work means sitting in your spot with your damn name in front of it and voting. Not working is meeting with donors or lobbyists No employer pays me to go to meeting about my next job. I just read a very informative book about gaslighting because it recently happened to me. Basically it's someone trying to convince you that their subjective reality is YOUR objective reality.
Case in point: A few months ago, a close friend called me late one evening. I had been out of town for a few days and I was exhausted and stressed. He then started to tell me what to do in regards to something I mentioned, and then started getting really angry. So I said I want to have something to eat, since I hadn't eaten most of the day (it was close to midnight) and cut the conversation short.
His version?
I hung up on him, which he will NEVER forgive.
That didn't happen. I tried to salvage the relationship, and even apologized-- mostly for not letting myself get yelled at-- but it was to no avail.
That was three months ago. I've heard from him once via email, and was so disturbed by his statements and views that I've just walked away and initiated a no contact rule. And I do not regret it.
Right now, the media is my former friend. They are screaming "why won't you accept that my way is the right way! If I say the sky is neon purple, you need to BELIEVE that it's neon purple! I'm always right."
They are gaslighting, but, like my former friend, are refusing to take responsibility for their own actions and instead are playing the victim.

Later that year, Texas Senate Democrats fled to New Mexico over the same issues and for the same reasons.
In 2011 Wisconsin Democrats pulled the same stunt, fleeing to Illinois to deny Gov. Walker a quorum.
Again in 2011, the Indiana Democrats copied these antics, also fleeing to Illinois.
Now that this has become S.O.P. in the Democrat playbook, can McConnell or Pence send the US Marshals after them, to compel their attendance?
