Real, or Performance Art?

It's always safer to say something is fake than to expose yourself to the charge of Aggravated Gullibility and say "I think this is real," but I think this is real.

Though it does seem hard to believe.

But then, many things these days seem hard to believe. The fact that a thing is perfectly impossible is no reason to disbelieve it anymore.

134 Young people are not taught to think or challenged to learn how. They are filled with talking points and when they go off, they spew them like a sprinkler in no particular rational pattern. They are forming sentences, in that there is verb/noun/adverb structures, etc, but there's no sense of logical structure or intelligence behind it.

I've run into this again and again on social media. They get confused and upset and just fire off what they're full of in a manner that is somewhat related to the topic in a tangential sense, then become upset and condescending when you don't agree.

In this case: a young lady who has no mechanism to deal with failure or disappointment, who has had everything wonderful her way, and has been brutally crushed by reality not agreeing with her. Like the 13 year old girl whose crush rejected her, she's utterly unable to handle the situation and it seems like the end of the world. She's young enough to have been a child when Obama was elected, its all she knows.

140 I think this is real. Someone in other thread said that when meltdowns occur the filming starts midstream, unlike this one that begins when she approaches the counter.

If you listen at the very beginning, you'll hear the filmer say: "She's been at this for ten minutes", indicating that he did catch her mid-rant.

Cray-cray believes she is in a Safe Space, otherwise she wouldn't have released her inner hysteric. See how she invites the others to join in her dramatic display of hatred and angst about the Crazy Tangerine? Certain ethnicities are prone to public exhibitions like this in grocery store lines when they scan their EBT card, have depleted funds or have not been replenished. It doesn't matter if the line this type is in only has 3 people, get in the line with fifteen people if this type is not in it. They get in a fight with the poor checkout person who has nothing to do with their EBT card. Then the checker has to re scan or delete a ton of shit from the 3 full carts of groceries. After a few years here in Californialand I thought displays like this are normal.

241 I have a paranoia about adopting, which I know makes me horrible. I have a stepson (he turned 12 this weekend), and I could not love him more if he were my own. I adore him. But I am definitely second-tier. I volunteered for something at his school and his mom had a meltdown that I was parading around as his mother, so I had to back out. (And made him ask me.) I am not invited to his birthday parties (and his dad is). I tried to sign him up for confirmation classes at church, and got berated for trying to make these kinds of decisions in place of his real parents. I know this is all small stuff, but it's the daily stuff of being a parent.

It makes me feel ill to think of bringing someone else into my life, loving them with my whole heart, and then being reminded, daily, that I'm not their real mom and eventually being abandoned.

I used to want a huge family as, like, the natural overflow of having a loving and happy marriage. Then after awhile, I realized that that wasn't going to happen (my husband kind of hid that he's an alcoholic, and that affects things), and I thought, maybe even if my husband didn't love me and my stepson has to have boundaries, I could have a baby and then s/he would love me and I could be allowed to love them. But then ... no.

I am so sorry, but thank you guys for letting me vent. I know I sound like a horrible human being and I should be able to just love without precondition because that's what good Christians do. I just get sad sometimes.

Most of the time, I'm really good though.

Hang on there. I've known plenty of women who have had several miscarriages and have gone on to having kids. I don't want to be intrusive, but did they say the miscarriage was genetic, implantation or faulty plumbing? There are different solutions for each of those. I had one miscarriage and I'm glad I'd already had two kids, but I had another kid after that and thought I was early menopausal not pregnant (he's making chicken nuggets right now a and complaining about lack of ketchup, however, ketchup is NOT a beverage and they don't sell it in 60 gallon drums.)

There's no physical reason I haven't gotten pregnant again.

288 Our local chain-store pharmacy shop has lotsa drama.

In November, 4 youts harassed the assistant manager and staff insisting that the staff were somehow responsible for pre-paid debt cards charged to the yout's bank account.

The fucker was complaining to the workers for over 30 min demanding they do something. If no other customers were around, I'm dead certain they would have stole shit and started some shit.

Bonus vignette; said yout leaves his fucking iPhone on the register and leaves. I picked it up and announced, 'HEY, LOOK, A FREE IPHONE!'

And every other time I fucking go to said pharmacy, there is at least one fucking asshole returning high-ticket items.

I have to imagine the staff has been told to not hold up the return of obvious stolen product.

There's a couple at church who adopted twice (one is late teens, the other in his 20s now). The older one was adopted as a toddler had been abused and had tons of emotional and behavioral problems, and he's been in and out of jail committing petty crimes and doing drugs since he was a teenager. The other was an infant adoption and was great ... until he was like 15 and decided to look up his birth family and has since decided they are his "real" family.

I can't even. My heart just breaks for them.

310 Well, the no sex part does pare down your chances. If it makes you feel any better, I had a baby at 40 and my mom had me at 44. We were late kids, but still.....

I knew one woman who had to have her cervix sewn shut or she'd lose the baby, and another who had to take hormones to maintain the pregnancy, but she didn't know that and had two, then lost several, then had another with the hormones. Another who lost many a baby and then had three, boom, boom, boom. When I had my miscarriage, dozens of people came out of the woodwork to tell me their stories (helps that I'm catholic now, Catholics get that the child was a person and talk about it like that, not like it was a "whoops."

However, I am concerned about the state of your marriage if he won't have sex with you. Is it wise to bring a child into that dysfunction? What's his deal? A kid needs both parents. It's hard when everything is good, I can't imagine how hard it would be if there were issues.

330 FAKE BREWS.

Posted by: JB at January 24, 2017 06:02 PM (5ntXg)

331 241 I have a paranoia about adopting, which I know makes me horrible.

Posted by: sunny-dee at January 24, 2017 05:22 PM (QAOZh)

I assume you are no longer married to the alcoholic who doesn't love you or provide parenting for his son? Because that isn't a description of a good environment to bring a baby into or to raise a healthy child. Have you had therapy? Because having a child for the reason you describe isn't healthy either. I'd get puppies. Seriously.

That's what I thought. The water in Flint, MI tastes like delicious coffee? What's the problem?

Posted by: rickl at January 24, 2017 06:18 PM (sdi6R)

334 Bernette, I don't believe in divorce and, despite what's normal behavior for alcoholics, Husband isn't a bad person -- not angry, abusive, irresponsible, etc. I am not in any danger (and I'm self-sufficient and have a massive support network if I were). He just drinks a lot, gets sleepy, and goes to bed at, like, 7pm. He does care of a kind, just not what I expected and not what I would term romantic love.

Parenting my stepson is a huge issue. We only have him on weekends, so (thankfully) his exposure to my husband's drinking is limited ... but it's still there. And that is one area I'm pushing him on.

I also have two dogs and some fish, so I'm prepared.

337 If you are still here, Sunny Dee, my late husband was an alcoholic. It didn't affect our marriage until it got the best of him. He quit, cold turkey, because he was afraid I'd leave him. Never drank again.

Puppies are nice but they aren't children. It's easy to think you don't need a family when you are young. It makes old age so much easier to deal with, when you have someone that cares for you.

That paragraph and the one following it....please get therapy. Having a child so you will have somebody love you is a terrible idea. Part of raising a healthy human requires a parent to make sure the child doesn't love them all the time, and that starts young.

Your husband will be zero help if he drinks and passes out at 7 pm all the time. Kids need boundaries and healthy adults, or they frequently go off the rails. I've got two healthy young adult children and have seen way too many train wrecks around them ... Get emotionally healthy before you have a child.
