And the media is very, very stupid indeed. And emotional. And partisan. And unprofessional. Mollie Hemingway notes four recent -- as in, the past couple of days -- new outbreaks of the media's self-arson. It's not just that they are chiefly in the business of #FakeNews these days -- it's that when one media source creates #FakeNews, the rest of the Herd of Low-Intellect Pack Animals begins retweeting it and republishing it without a single one of these idiots bothering to check a damn thing. Mollie's first example is the New York Times' #FakeNews claim that Rick Perry only recently came to understand that as Secretary of Energy, he would be in charge of safeguarding the US' nuclear arsenal. This despite the fact that when Perry accepted the nomination, he said:"I look forward to engaging in a conversation about the development, stewardship and regulation of our energy resources, safeguarding our nuclear arsenal, and promoting an American energy policy that creates jobs and puts America first."As David St. Hubbins said: "Ah well that's just nitpicking, isn't it?" Becket Adams examines the unsourced garbage nature of this #FakeNews garbage, but also shows you all of the media -- and I do mean all of the media -- that ate this up and then vomited it back up to the world. Well, not all of the legacy media. One outlet, New York magazine actually bothered to do some actual thinking. Here, they come very close to committing the crime of actual journalistic skepticism:
Yesterday, the New York Times posted a story by Coral Davenport and David Sanger about Donald Trump's energy secretary nominee, former Texas governor Rick Perry, that quickly went viral. That's because the article, posted under the headline "'Learning Curve' As Rick Perry Pursues a Job He Initially Misunderstood," made a rather astounding claim: that at the time he was tapped to head the department, Perry didn't even understand that one of its primary purposes is to maintain the security of America's nuclear weapons and facilities. Journalists everywhere, myself included, tweeted out the story as just another bright-red data point about Donald Trump's lack of fitness to govern. But since the story went online, a bunch of (mostly) conservative critics and outlets has argued that the story falsely impugns Perry. They make a very convincing case.Mollie's third example is this amazing headline. A Yale professor of computer science, widely considered an actual genius in his field, criticized unexamined liberal assumptions choking the academy. The general public doesn't care that you say your own fake news is just sloppy reporting when their fake news is malicious, and the fact that the media has had to split hairs like this in their own defense shows just how out of touch they are. I was flipping channels last night and the beginning of L&O:SVU came on. Was a rich kid hitting on a waitress at a party bragging that he lived in the hotel. I was like oh crap, this is a thinly veiled Trump dig episode, isn't it? So I decided to watch the potential idiocy. I was not disappointed!
Trump character in the show is a 75 year old billionaire businessman sexist pig Hef like playboy. His grandson who lives with him had sex with the waitress in the apartment he shares with Trump. Grandpa Trump then puts quaaludes in a drink after they have sex and rapes the waitress. His Trump-like family tries to protect him, but eventually the dad of the grandson reveals to his son that grandpa Trump raped his mom, also using quaaludes, which is why his parents divorced. Grandson comes clean about everything on the stand and grandpa Trump gets convicted of rape.
Classy, NBC, to air this ep the SAME WEEK Trump is being sworn in. All I can say is Of Course. Of course.

It will be a very long time before the alleged "media" will get any sort of respect from the public at large, if at all.
But of course, when you step back, take a look and see that they aren't merely biased in favor of the Left and that they ARE the Left, then it all comes into sharp focus.
The Democrats have made themselves into a fringe, regional party and because they are a part of it, the Media as we have known and loathed it have indeed destroyed themselves in the process.

Alex, both coats have the longer trains in the back that are short in front (smart convenient for stairs), and a similar silhouette, but Tiffany's has military button style accents on the front and sleeves. Military style clothing is super on trend, and perfect setting for it! good for her.
Ivanka's does not have the same button accents, just flowy and beautiful. I doubt she is wearing green as a symbolic "jealous yet, beeches?" FU to the media, but in my head she is, lol.

I was talking to Bander about Carson running HUD last night and noted that on the one hand he knows nothing about housing stuff via professional background and on the other hand he may be the world's greatest living PEDIATRIC NEUROSURGEON which, as Jonah Goldberg (or maybe Geraghty) noted is basically as close to playing God on Earth as a human can get so I'm pretty damn sure that he can learn things very quickly.

Back during the Carter
administration I had occasion to attend briefings in the White House
press room and was always disgusted by the appearance of the White House
photographers. I hope Trump puts in place a dress code for the press.
It is an outrage for those guys to be doing their jobs while dressed
like bums. I have worked as a press photographer (not White House) and
know that three-piece suits are not appropriate for working with a bunch
of camera gear, but that doesn't mean you can't get a haircut once in a
while and wear clean clothes with polished shoes.

I'm pretty sure that every recent First Lady has had a stylist advising them. My guess is that the First Lady gives some indication of her preferences, and the stylist tries to work with those preferences and what looks good/fitting for the occasion. I suspect that Michelle either doesn't listen to her advisor, or has pissed them off to the point that they're undermining her.

Ditto. I've never found Michelle to be terribly unattractive (though the ugliness inside couldn't help but show up on the outside), but her stylists NEVER did ANYTHING to highlight her attractive qualities. It's like she or they wanted her to be avant garde and haute couture, when her body type and facial structure just COULD NOT pull that off. She is not a model. She always looked best when dressing very simply without a lot of frou-frou. You can be elegant in a LBD with some simple jewelry. You don't always have to wear gaudy patterns with weird cuts that make you look like a reject from Hairspray.

The rules of the Senate allow for a lot of procedural delaying tactics, such as suggesting the absence of a quorum (which requires a full roll call), requiring that the Chair recognize the first senator who rises to speak, and allowing long speeches not necessarily germane to the question at hand. Since it's a short session on Friday, it will be fairly easy for the minority party to use a combination of these to "run out the clock" and thus, indirectly, control the number of nominees who get voted on in that session.
While the filibuster is (mostly) gone, I don't think that blowing up the rest of the rules just to prevent some small-scale delays is really worth it, for either side. They lend a slower pace to the deliberations of the Senate and that is, in general, not a bad thing.

I remember that attack; I was working at the time as a research associate for a psychiatrist whose office was one block away from Gelernter's laboratory. We heard police and ambulance sirens coming from what seemed to be every conceivable direction. My boss went out to see what was going on and one of the cops basically told her to go back inside for her own safety. When we found out what had happened, we just sat there in disbelief. A couple days later, someone in the medical school suggested that the Unabomber might have sent his bomb to the "wrong" Gelernter; David has a brother who is an MD, and whose research was the kind of thing the Unabomber detested.
