Those jobs are only safe till Jan 20, are they not? What positions can be filled by Obama can be unfilled by Trump?

The problem is they are now "federal workers". According to the VA it is impossible to fire federal workers. But that is a lie. You just have to "work at it" and the supervisors are just too damned lazy.

19 Hopefully Trump will take a hard look at civil service employment regs with an aim of making it a lot easier to fire the deadweights. His history on low performers suggests he will.

And according to a few reports, fed employees are already in a sweat over it.

A good place to start is the TSA. Remember when tptb swore that TSA was nevah gonna unionize, no way? That promise lasted a shorter amount of time than my current schadenboner.

36 Boy, have I ever, bluebell. I have wonderful neighbors next door and across the back fence. (The south lot is unimproved.) I went to a Christmas party at the next-door's house. Had a great time. My neighbor lady comes over occasionally to help me make sure the Bailey's hasn't spoiled.

But I have to tell you, the legal system in Oklahoma is so arcane I have given up any attempt to understand how it works. Happily, there is a very patient "tag agent" (sort of a county field office) who seems determined to make my cars and me legal. She just writes down where I need to go and what papers I need to take and I do it.

Almost got my drivers license on Thursday but discovered I was at the licensing place (which was open) when I should have been at the examining place (which was not). I did get the cars registered but in my previous name, which is what was on the Iowa title. I now must go and re-register them, bring proof of the name change. Moving to Oklahoma turns out to be a full-time job for a while.

There's a fascinating Youtube channel with the late Clara, demonstrating how she learned to cook for her family during the Depression. Nothing exotic, obviously, it's just really interesting to see how she works. If I'm dicing an onion, I'll have a nice bright light and a cutting board, but Clara just cuts the thing in her hand like an apple.

Posted by: HH at December 31, 2016 07:38 AM

Once and only once. 30 years ago, New Year's Eve 1986-87. I had friends from out of town who wanted to go, so we started off with dinner in Chinatown, coffee and dessert in Little Italy and gradually made our way uptown. But as we got within 8 or 10 blocks of Times Square, it started to get VERY crowded. So we went back downtown and just found a cool jazz bar and that's where we plated ourselves until well after the ball dropped. They were actually staying at the Edison Hotel which was on 8th Avenue in the mid-40s, IIRC, so we waited out the crowds and finally got there around 4 in the morning.

I have never wanted to do that for a whole host of reasons. And now that the swarthy Saharan/South Asian types are on the rampage because colonialism and white privilege, I'll stay home and watch "The Horn Blows At Midnight" and go to be early.

There would still be statutory authorities, passed by Congress and signed into law. The SC has even upheld the validity of some of EPA's rules such as the Clean Air Act and carbon emissions.
Much like the TSA and many others, getting rid of an agency is gonna need help from Congress, and at a minimum the Senate Dems ain't gonna be helpful. The filibuster will once again become a popular tool in the MSM's eyes.

The best thing I've seen is that the basis of federal gubmint unions is an EO by JFK. Shitcan the unions, and break the Dems' biggest source of campaign moola. Even FDR thought that gubmint unions were a very bad idea.

Sure it was created by an EO but it was given legitimacy by congress by approving in committee and by its continued funding.

It could probably only be gotten rid of by congress zeroing out its budget.

Good job on keeping the hamsters on their toes.

86 Brother Cavil, how are you doing? Have you had your
father's funeral yet? I think about you every day and am still sending
prayers your way. I hope you have a lot of help and support from your
family.

Well, I'd be lying if I said it was easy. Sadly cash flow and my own sorry income dictate I can't remain in the house I'm to inherit, and it's not in great shape--needs new paint, carpets, work on bathrooms--so I'm going to need a new place to stay, probably within a couple of weeks. Fortunately the network of friends my dad had--and thus, by extention, I have--is amazing, and I already have some opportunities available. Eventually when the dust clears I should have some cash, hopefully can get a better paying job now that I don't have to worry about looking after the old man, and move on with my own life.

I was wigging out for a while with the speed it's happened--lots of stuff sorted and taken out of the house already! It's amazing watching 30 years of stuff getting cleared out--but I'm starting to settle down into the long weekend. I'm looking forward to going back to the office so I can think about something else...

91 I was thinking about the "joint report" on Russian hacking yesterday and this is what I believe about it:

It is logically and rationally impossible that the report is true.

Here's why:

Wikileaks, obviously, had the emails. So logically, there had to be a link TO Wikileaks from wherever the emails originated. True so far, right?

That much could have been acknowledged in the report by a simple statement such as, "it is, as yet, undetermined how the Russians transmitted the emails to Wikileaks."

There is no such statement in the report. In fact, even though the report - logically, and in so many words - is describing Wikileaks, there is no mention anywhere in the report, of Wikileaks.

As I said, this, on its face, does not make logical sense.

The only thing clearly known is absent from the report?

But the Russians hacked the emails and then magically made their way into Wikileaks hands?

This was supposedly a multi-agency report, and it was done so sloppily that they left out the ONE thing that was definitely known by the entire world.

Makes no sense.

95 Brother Cavil, just keep hanging in there and doing what you need to do. The most important job you have right now is just getting through each day, doing what needs to be done. I'm glad to hear you have some opportunities that have arisen - that's God in the details for sure.

Most of all, know that you gave your all for your dad. I can't remember if you're Catholic - I think you are - but one of the readings for yesterday was Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14. Applies equally to non-Catholics, of course! I just think it was interesting that your dad's viewing was yesterday, with the perfect reading to go with it.

On is different scale, my mother in law died in July, leaving millions to her lawyers to run a foundation in her name. She wanted to completely disown her only child, my wife, who cared for her every day. Why is anyone's guess.

Luckily, there were a few million from her father's estate that her mother had the benefit of the income over the past 30 years, but went to her at her mother's death.

Sure, everyone should be thankful for 2 or 3 million, but the way this all transpired was a total blindside. Absolutely nothing was left to the grandchildren or great grandchildren, not even simple educational funds.

It was an act of spite for some unknown slight that could be 80 years old.

So, it's been an eventful year.

I'm still working, but I'm not making much and I'm in poor shape to interview for anything else. It's a bad situation I'd wish I'd made better by taking dad up on his offer to help...too late now. Just wanted to wait for things to quiet down but...not to be.

Learn from me folks, don't wait for the perfect time, move when you can.

Anyway, who knows, I've had a hankering to move on. I may yet. But I need to get things stabilized first.

Your wife should sue the estate. There are laws governing minimum inheritance for spouses and children.

Found myself in the same position but I'd have had to sue the kids. That was the one thing I couldn't do. But there are no other kids here, so it's not an issue.

Lawyer. Now.

115 Jwest - sorry to learn about that. Some moms get very demanding and petulant in old age. Sometimes it's because they are afraid, which is understandable. I think, though, some women with entitlement/narcissist issues get really crazily demanding and they get really angry or spiteful.

Posted by: vivi at December 31, 2016 08:40 AM (11H2y)

116 Jwest - wow, that is really....diabolical. I'm so sorry. I hope your wife will be able to move on from this. I suppose the local newspaper, which will undoubtedly cover the news of this new foundation from a local donor, will want to interview her daughter. Perhaps a lawyer can help craft an appropriate response for your wife.

117 I don't want my dead parents' money. All I ever wanted was their respect. I certainly earned it; definitely never got it. They only love me when I do what they want me to do. When I was younger, they held that money over my head. I grew up with no emotional ties to them and went my own way.

I have my own money now. They can keep their money; I wouldn't take a dime.

Just went through that regimen. Hope it works out for you. I've done it before but this time it made me really racy. I either got a lot done or spent a lot of time about all the things to be done, and not being able to focus on one completion.

I also ended up at an alternative church service, World without Walls. I'm Roman Catholic and was trying to decide which Parish midnight mass to attend. That aside, feel better. And glad to hear your 2016 ending on a good note with the move.
