Jeffrey Wells has said that Spielberg will be remembered as an "event director," like Cecil B. DeMille, rather than someone artistic, like Hitchcock or DePalma. I would disagree; Spielberg is artistic, it's just that he doesn't hold middle America in contempt, in fact he's always seemed genuinely fond and appreciative of the "flyover states" and their general tastes.

234 I saw Speilberg about a year ago driving in rural Marin Country. He was in some 1930s era mint convertible (not a car guy so not sure of make).

I'm only calling it a positive ID because I was at a stop sign and he slowed down as he drove by in front of me......looking right at me. I definitely looked like paparazzi in my hobo clothes and my 16 year old (and looking it) auto.
