Wednesday Night ONT - Liberal Tears Edition

Hi everybody! What time is it? It's ONT time!

Clippy.jpg

Special Snowflakes

Snowflake.jpg

The election of Donald Trump has caused lots of people on the left to become seriously mentally ill. I'm not kidding. Look, I'll admit it. When JEF won reelection, I was depressed. I spent the next day in bed. I had scheduled the day off anyhow, and so I just laid in bed intermittently sleeping and watching TV. I had the luxury to be able to do so, so I did, even as I recognized it was an indulgence. The next day, however, I got up and went to work. Here we are, a month out from the election, and the sheer insanity on the left shows no signs of slowing down. In some cases, it's mild-ish:

The Post-Trump Haircut

“I cried for three days,” the Atlanta native, 45, recalls. “I felt like it was the worst thing, politically, that ever happened in my lifetime. It was catastrophic.” By Friday she noticed grays growing in, so she put on her big-girl panties and dragged herself to the drugstore. “Literally without thinking, I grabbed the Natural Black box by Garnier,” she says. “I was like, f** it! The election deadened my soul. I think I wanted to do something defiant to feel stronger.”

Yes. Oh my God, Yes! Dye your hair! That'll show America. Even better, get a bull dyke buzzcut. Or a spike cut. Or just shave your head entirely. I tell you, if loads of fat, miserable liberals start walking around looking like Rachel Maddow on a cocaine bender, the country is sure to demand a do-over! If course, it doesn't matter because some of them have decided that they ain't putting out anymore anyway.

Trump’s election stole my desire to look for a partner

I get the feeling that there's a small town in Montana where everybody's going to know that when the author of this piece is seen sitting alone at the end of the bar chain smoking Camels and crying in her Chardonnay, why, a bitter hate fuck is there for the asking. *IF* one can stand the endless whining needed to get her into the bed of your pickup for the two minutes of rumpy-pumpy. And then there's those who just went completely around the bend, like this gay guy from New York who left the Javits Center November 8th and checked himself into the looney bin (really):

How I Ended Up In A Psych Ward On Election Night

SO MUCH insanity. Someone (maybe Peety S Dee?) needs to re-write The Rolling Stones Mick Jagger's 1986 song Ruthless People for these losers. “Hey! Useless people!”

Rounding out our tour of liberal tears is this piece by Kos over at Daily Kos who just wants everyone to know Yes, I'm angry. Pissed. Livid. And yes, at pretty much everyone

Kangaroo Punching

Man who punched out kangaroo

Video at link. Honestly, the outrage from PETA types after this film surfaced has been entirely predictable. The kangaroo was fine, the man saved his dog, which was the object of the exercise, what's the problem? Although I do admit, the clip of him nailing the 'roo with a right cross is pretty damn cool. How many people can say they've done that?

In other animal news: Herd of reindeer wiped out by lightning strike (video). At least the lightning didn't punch them.

Pool Party!

Parenting

Enough? Touching letter from a mom to the unknown child she gave up for adoption.

Related: Thank You for the Autism In some countries, over 95% of babies that have a questionable screening test for Downs are aborted, and the eugenics crowd is pushing to make that 100%. France has just made it illegal to post pro-life information online. It's sick. I am blessed that both of my children are relatively “normal” (Big is bi-polar, but after years of frustration and anger he's found the right combination of medications and is finally living a normal life), but a personal twenty year friendship with a guy who is wheelchair bound, and stories like this, convince me that the urge to “perfect” the species isn't doing any favors to our humanity. All lives matter.

Two movies China desperately wants to hide

China is butchering political prisoners and selling their organs to the highest bidder. I remember when this was just the plot to a sci-fi/horror novel. What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god!

So did I! Had the luxury for the next seven years. Thanks, Obama!

Posted by: t-bird at December 07, 2016 10:38 PM (29QcC)

29 Mr. Obama has led the most progressive administration since Lyndon B. Johnson's half a century ago, raising taxes on the rich to expand the safety net for the less fortunate. Still, by the White House's own account, eight years of trench warfare in Washington trimmed the top 1-percenters' share, after taxes and transfers, to only 15.4 percent, from 16.6 percent of the nation's income. It increased the slice going to the poorest fifth of families by 0.6 percentage point, to a grand total of 4 percent.

The policies also helped push the Republican Party even further to the right, leading to the Tea Party -- whose rabid opposition to government redistribution still shakes American politics. They did nothing to salve -- and perhaps even added to -- the stewing resentment of white working-class Americans who feel left out of the nation's advancements, producing the electoral victory for Donald J. Trump, who has proposed a tax plan that amounts to a lavish giveaway to the rich.

I am not a helicopter pilot, but I know what he did wrong. It happened a lot in Vietnam. I don't know the technical term for it, but . . . pilot error.

When the plane of your rotor blades gets too close to the vertical, you don't have any lift, and you don't have enough horsepower to pull the thing back to the horizontal.

Unfortunately I neglected to block him on Twitter, and today he posted there the simple statement "recount shows Hillary got 2% more votes than Trump."

I was VERY tempted to tweet something nasty back, but I didn't. I'm glad I didn't.

But if I had... what should I have said?

I admit I was tempted to respond, "so the fuck what?" I also about an hour ago wished I had responded something along the lines of, "It's so adorable that you think your side would give a fuck if the situation were reversed."

99 Before Obama's elections, I expressed my concern that my health insurance was going to become unaffordable and the economy was going to suffer. There were other things I was concerned about as well, but these were the things that were going to personally affect me.

I was not panicky or on the verge of a breakdown, just troubled that I was going to have to face these hardships.

Here's the main difference between my concerns and those of the leftists this time around. I really did have my health insurance become unaffordable. Premiums quadrupled until they cost twice as much as our mortgage. My work hours were cut 20% to accommodate the new healthcare laws. This was a serious hardship to our family. We ended up having to drop coverage.

What I foresaw was an actual real-life consequence of the election, not something I made up so I could have an excuse to hate or fear Obama. It was not merely an imaginary bogeyman.

I know several people (and a couple of Obama voters) who are really struggling now with the consequences of Obamacare. But that doesn't matter, because Obamacare actually didn't do the one thing that it was claimed it would do. Get the uninsured, insured. Still a lot of people that are uninsured.
But it is doing a lot of other things that are all about more government control over our lives. Which was, perhaps, the real primary goal.

I saw an interesting comment on teh Twitters today (wish I could find it again) and it made me think a little.

Hilldawg's camp was more worried about Rubio than Trump. However, Rubio wouldn't have fought dirty in the trenches like Trump did and thus the campaign would have been more about issues. In that way, Rubio might have lost because then Hilldawg would have just done what Dems love to do - buy votes with your money - and thus eaten away at Rubio's likability. However, Clinton made the campaign about Trump's character and it turned out in the end that Hillary couldn't capitalize on that for the win because of her own deplorable deeds and past.

That's pretty much the crux of what I read earlier. Nonsense or is there a point within all that?

I have a good friend that adopted (with his wife) two Chinese girls from orphanages in China (abandoned by their parents so they could have a boy child). This is after they raised three sons to manhood.
The first girl was kept in a crib to an unusual age (9 or 10 months) and her legs had not developed properly, and had a lot of problems when they were little.
Both are just really beautiful young women now.

My friend and his wife are very serious practicing Christians, who live their faith every day. I look up to them quite a bit.

168 The most interesting thing about the MI recount nonsense is the stunning/utterly predictable state of chaos and zero integrity in the Detroit voting process. As revealed by 60% of precincts being unable to reconcile their two most basic ballot-counting measures.

It won't be a topic on even political nerds' tongues two months from now, but given the stakes and the asymmetry (Dems depend on fraud in some of their strongholds, GOP does not depend on fraud for any of its seats), election integrity is a yuuuugge practical issue. And "winning beyond the margin of fraud" is not a reliable or "sustainable" response.

People are blaming the clerk but in reality and she pointed out it's the poll workers. My guess is they don't check ID they are not writing down in the logbook having people sign ,not keeping the little paper signature card you have to fill out. They just weren't bothering with that . Just handed people who walked in A ballot. I know there were Detroit precincts that didn't calibrate their machines and provide worker training on October 16 as required by state law

241 Regarding the slaughter of the unborn for suspected "issues," I will never forget hearing actor David Koechner on the radio show Free Beer and Hotwings, talking about how he and his wife were advised to consider removing the burden. I can't remember precisely what the tests showed, Down's, or something. They defiantly said fuck no, and, lo and behold, their baby was perfectly healthy.

David Koechner is famous for playing dickweed blowhards, like Todd Packer in The Office, but my esteem for him shot through the roof that day. God bless him, his wife, his family.

244 Speaking of lottery tickets, went and got some tonight. Then stopped at one of the boats to gamble. Pulled $40 out and started to play. First $20 vanished quickly in a penny machine. Wandered to another penny machine that was all patriotic red, white, and blue. By the time I had cashed out from that machine for the third time was $101 ahead. Between second cash out and third, went and ate a burger with some of the winnings or it would have been $108.

After cashing out the third time ran across a cow-orker from Wally World. She had been there only 15 minutes and was already $200 in the hole and saying she needed to win some of her money back.I gently suggested that she needed to go home. But she was determined so I dropped it and quickly exited the premises before she lost her blouse.

He was the original fake news but calls everything a "hoax". Give it a spin as his early stuff was very entertaining.

Eh ... China's been butchering political prisoners (and anyone else they felt like butchering) for a couple of thousand years now. The only difference these days is that they get cold, hard cash for the body parts rather than just being able to use them as filler for the mortar in the Great Wall - which was pretty much the equivalent of cold. hard cash back then.

I once had a gas station clerk ask me what part of India I was from, and I've had people yell at me to "go back to my country" when I was on that side of the counter. I'm Irish-pale, but I guess the Amerindian side shows enough to make people think I'm Middle Eastern or Indian.

Never really got offended by it, the clerk was just asking out of curiosity, and jerks are going to find any excuse to be a jerk.

One time, when it wasn't hosed, but something was wrong, I was looking in the Windows\system directory. He said, what the hell are all those damn files doing there? I don't make them. Where are they coming from? Where is all that crap coming from?

He was doing mass deletes of system files. I wanted to scream you "FUCKING IDIOT!!!!", but I kept my cool. He could not understand the concept that the operating system was stored in files, and indeed, everything was stored in files.

I tried to explain it to him. I don't think he grasped it. And he was an old engineer. And old school mechanical engineer who had retired before computers became common. He had never had anything to do with computers in any form.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro police believe students may have been trying to frame a teacher accused of viewing pornography on his computer.

IPS officials were also investigating the claims against the teacher at Henry W. Longfellow Middle School. The teacher was placed on leave and his computer was confiscated for investigation.

Police say they discovered inconsistencies in the allegation against the teacher. They say the students "may have been involved in an elaborate plot to frame the teacher."

"Indianapolis Public Schools cooperated with law enforcement throughout their investigation of the allegations at Longfellow. As a result of their investigation, the employee in question is returning to work," the school district said in a statement Wednesday night.

398 168 The most interesting thing about the MI recount nonsense is the stunning/utterly predictable state of chaos and zero integrity in the Detroit voting process. As revealed by 60% of precincts being unable to reconcile their two most basic ballot-counting measures.

Anyone who thought this wasn't going on in Detroit was an imbecile.
Aside from that, I've often wondered who the hell they come up with the people who work at the polling places. I've had experience with elderly people who were incapable of doing the job properly. One woman couldn't manage to find my name on an alphabetical list. 2 other times there were poll workers who didn't protect the privacy of your paper ballot. None of it was intentional fraud or particularly damaging. It just makes me wonder how many of the bad ballots are due to incompetent poll workers.

404 I Googled the origin of the "Baby onboard" signs. One big myth/urban legend was it was in response to a baby being killed in a car accident that was overlooked. And similar stories.

It's a all BS. It was started by some guy named Michael Lerner who founded something called "Safety 1st!" to make the signs. The inspiration came not from some terrible tragedy, but from a friend, who saw similar signs on cars in Europe.

The purpose was indeed to say "Be careful, there's a baby in here". It actually spawned many parodies, and at one time, the parodies actually outnumbered the real signs by up to 5:1. There were ever attempts to ban the mocking signs because it took away from the divine purpose of child safety.

407 It just makes me wonder how many of the bad ballots are due to incompetent poll workers.

They caught a couple women in a big city who were marking ballots the way they thought should be marked when going through them. They were stopped only because another volunteer spotted it and told their supervisor.

422 I'm not at all upset at people who upon having a baby turn their entire lives around the event and the child. It only bothers me if they make that exclusive to teaching and raising the child properly, but that baby should be the center of your life for a few years. That's tomorrow you're teaching.

But my mom told me something really wise, which sadly I've never been able to put into practice. Here's why it's annoying. The implication is that some people particular attention vis a vis others. Suppose the sign said, "Potentially fertile woman aboard." I think it's just the perspective.... you look at them and assume the driver is demanding you do something special to accommodate them, and I look at it and think they are saying hey, if this car is on fire, look in the back seat first.

493 Docu series:

The Killing Season
A and E

Two kind-of-annoying 30-something film-makers recap 20-year old murders in Gilgo Beach, Long Island.

Borderline obnoxious presentation but the content is mesmerizing. The voiceovers are valley-girl bad. The segments are all programmed with EXCITING TWIST AHEAD type fluffing, but I can't stop watching the thing.

SPOILERS
Also, violates numerous 'laws' of docus; they start grasping at topics outside the original precis and going *echo effects* MEGA-DOCU *echo effects*

3/4 the way through the series now they're documenting ALL TEH MURDERZ!

If'n you like the 'real crime' genre, you've seen worse.

Personal anecdote. When I was in grad school I was in a van, on a two lane highway, coming back from Yosemite when a car in front of us veered into the oncoming traffic. Horrendous crash.

We were the first to the scene. I checked the driver, who was clearly dead. (I found out later the driver was a woman. The sex of the driver was not apparent at the time, and only learned from the later newspaper account, so you get the picture.)

Running around to the passenger side, I struggled with the door, which was difficult to open because the frame was bent. While I was doing that, a small hand, covered in blood, reached up, and almost gave me a heart attack. I finally got the door open, to find a little girl who'd been squished by a crate behind the passenger seat (this was the pre-Nader latch era), and slammed into the dashboard, producing a deep furrow in her forehead. I got her out as the EMTs arrived.

Now here's the question for you: at what juncture exactly in the festivities would I have had occasion to catch up on my reading to find there was a baby on board? I was about one molar in adrenaline, and reading shit was just about the last thing on my mind.

I am humbled, and unworthy, Tammy. I don't wish to speak from authority - others, with far more basis than I can do that - but it's just that in those situations, I doubt that ANYONE is so calm as to read signs and such. In this case, it never occurred to me to look for any such signs. (In all honesty, maybe that's because I hadn't been trained. Maybe. But I doubt it.)

When the adrenaline is pumping - and I mean PUMPING - and the heart is pounding alarmingly in your chest, calm collected rational thought is tough to muster.

563 The way to *try* to overcome the adrenaline thing is train, train, train. Make what you need to do be muscle memory. Practice, practice, practice. And even then, it's not enough. But it makes it easier.

The ability to think rationally just goes right out the window.

585 Yeah I never liked that one either. Its not universal nor probably even common, but for some dispensationalist types, there's a kind of holier-than-thou attitude of how they're gonna get away from all the sinners and you'll be Left Behind. Not a very Christian attitude.

I have yet to have this Rapture explained to me in any terms that make the slightest sense. It didn't even exist until the middle of the 18th century in some southern states, where it was invented by a preacher and spread by word of mouth. It sure isn't Biblical.

Then again, just how much do we know for certain about the end of the world? The Biblical stuff is fairly clear, but short on detail, so I suppose He can do as He pleases with it.

587 DOD utube thing on Pearl Harbor ("everything you need to know, in 2 min." - so, there's that).

Fortunately for us, no carriers in port, they were Japanese priority (um, no they weren't - maybe to Yamamoto, but Genda and Fuchida managed to draw up an attack plan giving carriers equal weight). But yeah, fortunate for us anyway.

Other "fortunate for us", they didn't hit the oil tank farm, key to the war. Um, no they weren't. Even if major damage had been done (unlikely), a few tankers-full would have made up for it. Certainly no long-term impact, or impact on outcome.

At least no morally inverted hand-wringing. With only a few weeks left until return of DOD to American hands, I guess one should be grateful.

By Friday she noticed grays growing in, so she put on her big-girl panties and dragged herself to the drugstore. "Literally without thinking, I grabbed the Natural Black box by Garnier," she says. "I was like, f** it! The election deadened my soul. I think I wanted to do something defiant to feel stronger."

Dear clueless twat,

An election is the worse thing in your life?

You wouldn't know big girl panties if you were catapulted from Rosie O'Donnell's "time of the month" undies.

602 Some of you have probably heard me go on about "Ol' Red", that Okinawa vet, who told war stories just like it was, blood curdling. He told his "combat initiation" story, which I call the "7 minutes to live story".

Short version. They were about to hit the beach on some god-forsaken Pacific Island. It was his first taste of combat. He joked (and I wondered if it was really joking) that they made the rookies go in the first wave, so they'd be the ones killed and could be "sand bags" for the more experienced troops, who would have a chance.

He was read-headed (hence the name). His Lt. was red-headed as well, and took a shine to young Ol' Red. When they were in the landing craft headed in, he told Ol' Red, "Make the most of the next 7 minutes, because that's how long you have to live." That was the average or median life span of the first wave.

After about 10 minutes, which seemed like an eternity, over half his unit was dead, including the Lt. He said he didn't think there was that much ammunition in the whole world, much less the beach of that little island.

I have a multi-trunked Norfolk Island pine that Mr. Deplorable bought about 5 years ago. Now that I'm in an apartment, that's what I use as a living Christmas tree. I run the lights up each narrow trunk, since the branches are too delicate to carry much weight. I add some battery-operated seed lights to the branches to add depth. The wires are very thin, so you can't really see them. And the ornaments are very delicate, so they don't weigh the branches down.

One the time I rolled up on a car on fire on I-270. Thick black smoke blanketing the roadway. My brain said "Hey, there's nobody standing around going "Shit, my car's on fire", maybe they didn't get out.". I jumped out of my car and ran over (the engine and front tires were on fire, my first wife, who was with me, said I just vanished into the pall of smoke) to the driver's door, opened it and felt around-nothing. Around to the passenger side-still nothing. At that point I had to retreat or I would have gone down from the smoke. I didn't think to check the back seat. Fortunately the car was empty, but they could have had a neon sign saying "Baby on board" and I wouldn't have been able to see it in all that smoke.

630 A Jewish joke. I hope JJ sees it.

The Rabbi was standing before the assembled and raised his hands upward and said, "Oh, G*d, I AM NOTHING!" The Cantor, likewise inspired, also looked heavenward and sang "G*d, I AM NOTHING!" Then the janitor, who was out in the hall, but saw the whole thing, he put down his broom and shouted "I AM NOTHING". The Cantor looked at the Rabbi and said, under his breath, "Hmph, look who thinks he's nothing..

The article sez that one company is going live in 2017 with this technique. This might be a big fucking deal.

Posted by: GnuBreed at December 08, 2016 02:06 AM (oZEJt)

That is interesting. I hope it works. I take issue with a couple of points in the article, though. Water consumed in frac'ing is not usually totally lost; you can get most of it back, and can reuse on the next well. Also producing water from the microwaved shale is not really a benefit. sure the steam drive may help, but the produced water will almost certainly be salty. Those formations are fossil seas, after all. And salt water has to be either purified, or disposed of. Produced water is a cost.

650 I just saw an ad for those overpriced Omaha steaks, and it reminded me of a funny Christmas story.

My BIL lives outside of Omaha with his wife - her dad raises beef cattle. They decided to send us a surprise package of meat one year.

Mr. Deplorable arrived home for lunch and found a note on the door to please call the post office. Intrigued, he did so.

Apparently the box (which was approximately the size that would hold a human head) was leaking blood, and they were uncomfortable handling it.

651 One the time I rolled up on a car on fire on I-270.

652 we were on our way home from another fun filled weekend on Planet Irwin,
doing the usual Armored Cav shit, coming down the I-15 through Cajon
Pass, when traffic suddenly came to a stop.

i disremember why i
wasn't in convoy with my M-35-A2 w/o winch "Devil Doll", but was being
bird dogged by my 2 running buddies, "Merlin" and "Tiny".

i didn't
crush any beer cans, and, since i was already in the outside lane, i got
into the shoulder and made my way forward, as i could already see a
lone chippie and an overturned vehicle. being my friends, my partners
followed.

turns out Mr Illegal Alien, who was faced, had managed to come off the northbound lanes (they're higher there) and rolled his way into oncoming traffic without hitting anyone.

i yelled to the chippie that we were Army medics and did he want any help?

he was enthusiastically affirmative, so we, in the next 10-15 minutes, assessed the idiot, safely extracted him and got him secured on a spine board. got the car right side up and cleared the freeway, and, by the time the real first responders got there, had the incident cleared, except for the paperw*rk.

never thought of it again until a few months later when we got called to attention for last formation, when all 3 of us got called front and center.

turns out someone put us in for an award for doing all that, when all we wanted to do was get past the traffic jam.

of course, since the award wasn't worth promotion points, it seems the folks who put us in for it weren't that impressed with our actions either.

no good deed goes unpunished.

658 Oh, one other comment about the American Thinker article. The Green River "oil shale" doesn't have oil in it. It has kerogen, which was named in the article, but glossed over. Kerogen is a solid, sort of like wax or plastic. Pretty high melting point. You cannot really melt it and make it flow. The "recovery" process is actually pyrolysis, where high heat is used to break the long-chain hydrocarbons down into shorter ones. Almost any organic material can be broken down into fuel gas by pyrolysis. But the process will inevitably consume some of the energy liberated.

I have some samples of Nordegg kerogen shale from the subsurface in northern Alberta. Look at a hunk of it; it's a dark brown, soft, fine-textured rock. Hold a hunk of it in the flame of a Bic lighter, and it will catch fire and burn with an orange, sooty flame, and smell like burning coal. And it will burn for several minutes. And when you are done, you are left with a little lump of pure white soft chalky clay.

If this microwave technology works, the Nordegg just became an energy reserve, and there is a metric fuckton of it.

661 GnuBreed, thanks for the link to the Pearl Harbor article. Just a bit into it, but he repeats a couple central myths - bombing the oil tank farm and shipyards would have slowed US response to the attack - materially. Not likely. (see Tula small arms factory and German aircraft production for relevant analogies)

Also, Nagumo's reason for no third wave, and beginning the withdrawal back to Japan, was not as stated (increasing efficacy of American AA fire) Above all Nagumo was (rightly) worried about the whereabouts of the US carriers and his force's vulnerability.

The narrow Japanese objective for the attack, its specific objectives in terms of their overall Pacific strategy in 41/42, was met by the results at Pearl Harbor. But that strategy was foolish and grossly off-base in its assumptions.

There were also little discussed contradictions in the Japanese strategy, and spectacularly dumb mistakes in their plan which through luck imposed no costs (midget subs, cruiser recon planes sent in before attack waves, Fuchida fucking up the surprise/no surprise flare signal during the first save).

And fortunately a very high % of Japanese armor-penetrating bombs malfunctioned or fused poorly, great reducing their effects.

But now it's coming back around to being funny again, because, my God, they are acting like such pussies. I am beginning to wonder how we ever managed to lose to these people. 681 I want to smugly advise leftists: If you're so horrified about what Trump might do, maybe in the future you should consider cooperating with rightists on that whole "small government" thing

Well ... the fact is that they get no reward for doing so. They know that conservatives will fight for small government and powers restrained by the Constitution, no matter who is in office, so they don't have to worry when they're out of power. They only hurt their political goal - which is to centralize all power and have it wielded by an America-hating tyrant - by fighting against the destruction of Constitutional restraints while they have power. It's not as if they want the Constitution to be operable. They don't.

so that *NO* President can do those things, rather than clinging to power and having a breakdown when the authority you so loved in the hands of Black Jesus falls to the Cheeto Clown.

Posted by: Blackbutt the Pirate at December 08, 2016 03:53 AM (Th/kH)

They know that no conservative is going to let Trump exercise anything near the lawless tyranny that Barky did. All they're really worried about is losing some ground in the judiciary - where they really get the teeth for their insane plans - but, even there, they know that they always have time on their side and that judges tend to drift left while they are sitting for extended periods of time.

It is an asymmetrical fight we are engaged in with the left. It will always be so, since their goal is the destruction of the system and ours is the preservation of it. We have but a single path and our actions are easily predicted (since we will follow the written law and be constrained by it) while they have no such constraints. They can do anything because they are bound by no law, no tradition, and no course of action.

That's just how it always is with a defensive position - which is what canservativism is - the defense of the Constitution. Leftists have the offensive side since they are only looking to destroy, which can be accomplished in any of a nearly infinite number of ways.

This is the basic deal with entropy. It's a fact of life. A law of Nature.

690 Socialism/ Communism always was feudalism from the beginning. Many people noticed as soon as the communists took over in Russia all they did was take the place of the nobility and all their trappings.

691 689 Socialism is a return to Feudalism.
The divine rights of kings and all of that.
I reject it, all of it.

Posted by: navybrat at December 08, 2016 05:02 AM (w7KSn)

All Collectivism (Communism, Socialism, Fascism) is a return to Feudalism, just (usually) without the hereditary titles. It elevates the state over the individual, and in doing so, makes it to where the only person with agency is Dear Leader, and creates a stratified society below him. Dear Leader owns everything, his administrators get the table scraps, the enforcers get the table scraps from the administrators, and everyone else is reduced to grinding poverty and has no rights whatsoever.

694 Socialists look at people as slaves. Always have, always will.

Posted by: Buckeye Abroad at December 08, 2016 04:56 AM (940WI)

Which is why they build walls to keep people in. They see The People as the property of The State, to be used as Dear Leader sees fit.

Rejecting that and trying to leave is something they see as a challenge to their authority. If they allow it, everyone in their right mind will flee. As Ronald Reagan once said of the Soviet Union, if they were to ever allow another political party, it would still be a one-party system, because everyone would join the other one.

More than anything else, these people hate competition. They want to be the only game in town, whether that's in industry or in governance.

Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at December 08, 2016 05:16 AM (J+mig)

695 It always goes back to control. It's all about control. It's not about any of the things they claim to espouse, it's about the forcing. We've created a system where men are free to be the masters of their own destinies, without their input, and they can't stand it.

696 If that's what "conservatism" is, then count me with the increasing fraction of the right that says "conservatives" need to die, having conserved nothing, and apparently planning to continue doing nothing but wank over the Constitution.

Er ... There's not really much one can say to something like that. If you like shitting all over the Constitution then what the hell sort of conservative do you think you are?

The rest of your post is pretty silly drivel that seems to have no connection to governance, at all. You are making asinine war analogies. I am talking about the architecture of government.

Do you not understand the difference between governance on our sovereign territory and a friggin war against a foreign invaders? No, I don't think you do.

Do you not understand what an analogy is? No, I don't think you do, because I don't think you're even reading at grade school level. I said to count me among those rightists who reject "conservatives" for doing nothing, and you ask what kind of conservative I am. I say that "lawless tyranny" is overwrought verbiage, and you accuse me of shitting over the constitution. I make an analogy, and you accuse me of not understanding the difference between the things I am analogizing.

"Lawless tyranny" would be Trump ordering every Democrat shot at dawn. I do not advocate this.

I advocate Trump fighting back with the weapons of the left, because weapons are not ends. For example, getting your enemies fired, which Trump can do by shutting down the Department of Education and half a dozen other leftist-ridden federal departments comprising the Permanent Democrat Government, which is anything is more compliant with the Constitution than not, because I don't see where the federal government gets the authority to run those. Then I'd like to see Trump bullying Congress into repealing every Civil Rights Act that grants special privileges or creates protected classes. Again, this would arguably be more in compliance with the Constitution than not, considering the Fourteenth Amendment.

And speaking of Amendments, consider the Eighteenth (Prohibition). At one time it was not Constitution, and then it was, and then it was not again. Now either you must grant that the Constitution was wrong at some point, which implies it may be wrong again today, or else hold that "whatever is written in the Constitution today is right", in which case you would be obliged to support full communism if the leftists amended that in there.

So which is it, ThePrimordialOrderedPair ? Shitting over the constitution, as you mocked my less-than-unqualified support, or willingness to support full communism?

698 John Kass of the Chicago Tribune calls out the Ballerina School Dropout.

http://tinyurl.com/hfdyllf

"In 2014, there were just shy of 3,000 shootings in Chicago, 2,988 to be precise.

So far this year, there have been more than 4,100 people shot, and we've got almost a month of homicides and shootings to go.

Factor in the brilliant advances in emergency medical technology, and dedicated Chicago Fire Department paramedics and the fine work of hospital emergency rooms and trauma centers, and you can make a terrible argument.

It is the argument that Chicago violence now is as bad or worse than it was in the early 1990s, when in each of three years more than 900 people were slain.

Because with more than 4,000 shootings this year, it's reasonable to assume the 2016 homicide total would be well more than 700 by this point if it weren't for modern medical techniques and the paramedics.

"When a person who steals a pack of hot dogs at Jewel because he's hungry spends more time on average (in jail awaiting trial) than a guy caught with an illegal firearm, that's ridiculous," Johnson said.

A first-time gun offender arrested for illegally possessing or discharging a firearm averages six months, Johnson said. The second offense means about a year and a half.

"And for every subsequent offense, it's a little over two years. That's bizarre," Johnson said. "It's unacceptable."

But Chicago accepts it. And the legislators from the communities that have been devastated by gang violence seem to accept it. If they didn't accept it, they'd have done something by now.

Sheriff Dart offers a sensible take on all this. He thinks that one way to sell the tougher penalties to the black caucus is to couple it with his plan to reduce bail for nonviolent offenders.

But what of the trigger men and boys?

"Their greatest fear is that they'll be caught on the street without a gun," Dart said. "They're not worried about being caught with a gun, but without a gun. There is a certain logic to it. They know the system, but that's not what they're afraid of."

In Chicago the politics continue and the politicians who could do something, do nothing, because it's easier that way. They're inert, floating.

You might say the politicians have gone fetal."

That's another silly attempt at argument, but I'll answer it, anyway. I would leave before things got to that. Either with a seceding state or just going. I'm sure you would stay with your buddies int he French Resistance, here, and fight it out with a society that has elected to turn commie.

But what point are you trying to make, that you don't have to follow the Constitution and our law ... and that makes you some sort of American conservative? LOL. You're some frog resistance fighter, bound by nothing but your own super-genius, in your battle on American territory to save ... well nothing, really, since you don't put much stock in the Constitution.

Sheesh.

And a little advice - give up on the analogies and hypotheticals. They're really not your forte.

Hint: If I crudely express the proposition that someone has too much affection for a thing, this should not be taken to imply that I hate the thing in question.

So you want to wank over the Constitution, too? Is that what this is about.

No, I am making the point that responding in kind and with force does not necessitate "lawless tyranny" or throwing out the Constitution. The Right can fight to win, not just to look respectable.

That's another silly attempt at argument, but I'll answer it, anyway. I would leave before things got to that. Either with a seceding state or just going. I'm sure you would stay with your buddies int he French Resistance, here, and fight it out with a society that has elected to turn commie.

You're describing a course of action, but not really answering the question, so let me phrase it more bluntly: Of 1) loyalty to the current text of the Constitution whatever it be, 2) admission of some other guiding principle than the Constitution, which of these two do you prefer?

But what point are you trying to make, that you don't have to follow the Constitution and our law ... and that makes you some sort of American conservative? LOL.
Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at December 08, 2016 05:57 AM (zc3Db)

I'm making a series of related observations on America that don't boil down into a neat soundbite. Among them are the principle that the Right can fight to win, that conservatives have not been fighting to win, but seemingly more to conserve progressive victories, and that it is legitimate to fight to win, and that it is not impossible to fight to win and keep #winning.

I can hardly claim original credit for any of these; here's Reverend Dabney on the same:

"What was the resisted novelty of yesterday is today one of the accepted principles of conservatism; it is now conservative only in affecting to resist the next innovation, which will tomorrow be forced upon its timidity and will be succeeded by some third revolution; to be denounced and then adopted in its turn."

In my comment that started this subconversation, I theatrically advised liberals to perhaps work for limited government if they're so worried that Trump might turn government in a direction they don't like.

Cue "conservatives" coming in to reassure liberals that they shouldn't worry, Trump will never turn government away from the Left, conservatives will make sure of that!

Which fucking side are these "conservatives" on, exactly? Reminds me of Orwell on pacifism.
