Here's Another Company That Doesn't Want Our Business

I'm referring, of course, to Penzey's Spices:

Penzeys, a Wauwatosa (Wisconsin)-based company famous for its spices, is in the middle of a political firestorm after its owner slammed President-elect Donald Trump and the voters who supported him.

So in other words, Penzey is adopting the Roger Goodell business model that has proven to be a big success with the NFL: Drive away half your potential market even before you try to sell to them, since you really don't need those rubes and hayseeds, anyway.

"The open embrace of racism by the Republican Party in this election is now unleashing a wave of ugliness unseen in this country for decades," Bill Penzey Jr. wrote in a Tuesday night email to the company's mailing list. "The American people are taking notice."

Yeah, I'd agree with that last part. The American people *are* taking notice, which is why Donald Trump is now President Elect Donald Trump. If Penzey thinks this election is bringing some kind of progressive wave, that's pretty damned delusional. That's Hitler-in-a-bunker-raving-about-Steiner delusional.

So suck it, Bill. Steiner's not coming.

Since Bill has made it clear we're not welcome in his establishment, we will take our business elsewhere. My suggested alternative is The Spice House.

Doesn't that seem to be so often the case? Back when, I interviewed at a consultancy. After the wife of the CEO (the useless son of the founder) eyed me up and down prospectively as I sat in the lobby, I was invited in to speak with Dad's Mini Me. He started off by telling me he was a very liberal Democrat (huge surprise, as he was an MoT from NYC), and loved all the brethren.

Then, on the same breath, he segued into a "Downfallesque" rant about how I would never be CEO unless and until I bought him out, and until then he ran a tight ship, where it was his way or the highway, and how when he said "Jump," by God all employees had better say, "How high, sir?"

I watched in horror/fascination. My sole contribution to this conversation to this point?

My wife and I met at a Bible Study at work decades ago. It was at a large company that you've heard of. It's not as up front about being Christian since the founder died back around 2000 or so, but they still operate on Christian principles.

Years ago I was on a road trip and stopped for the night in a little mom & pop roadside motel. It was in Ohio or Indiana. I just needed a place to sleep. I got there late in the evening and was on my way again early the next morning.

I noticed that the dresser drawers had not only a Gideon Bible, but all kinds of Christian tracts.

When I got ready to leave, I left a note saying that they had a nice place and I enjoyed my stay.

It's like Florida in 2000, the left would use Michigan flipping to Clinton (if that happened) to say the whole voting process is flawed. Even though Bush won every which way Florida was counted, it always goes back to the Supreme Court "appointing" him as President.

Then, Ohio in 2004 that the voting machines gave him the victory there even though Bush won by over 100,000 votes (2%).

There's a couple other spice stores in Omaha I can patronize. I just don't understand a businessman who would gratuitously offend half his customer base. Several months ago I wrote him to tell him I'd had enough and for him to stick to something he knew about and stop using his customer list for distributing left-wing propaganda and then unsubscribed.
