Powerful Rant: British Leftie Explains That "Being Offended, Insulting People Doesn't Work Anymore," And If You Keep Calling Anyone Who Disagrees With You Racist, Sexist, and Stupid, That's How You Get Trump

You'll have to put up with him in the beginning as he (somewhat briefly) offers the left his credentials to speak, and trashes Trump as a "shit-spewing demagogue." He's no kinder to Hillary.

But that's not the point of the video. The point is that he's telling the left it is their very "crying" about being "triggered" and making people afraid to speak their true thoughts lest the be "silenced" and "shut down" that makes people vote for Trump.

He says, more than once, the left itself is responsible for Trump's victory, and he includes himself in that, I guess for having put up with or even indulged in this emotive hysteria himself.

Worth a watch. Content warning for lots of cursing. Maybe a tipping point.

29 It seems pretty obvious that the leadership of both parties, Democrat and Republican, need to be replaced. And not just with more of the same rotating cast of elites, but new people.

Democrat leadership is not just old, radical 60s dinosaurs but filled with so much hate and fury against those who disagree they literally pushed people into voting against them.

And Republican leadership fought hard to lose this election and couldn't even get that right.

Time for them to either be replaced, or both parties to just die off.

32 Ace, this is post-worthy!

Several of my friends (and countless similar liberals in California) coped with their pre-election anxiety by volunteering to "phone bank": make phone calls and texts to likely Democratic voters in swing states, to remind them to vote. And that this activity (phonebanking) was one of the main ways that liberals in "blue states" worked to influence the election nationwide.

Well, the following article (written by liberals, no less) states that the massive Democratic "get out the vote" operation catastrophically backfired, and that a substantial number of people whom the Democrats "reminded to vote" actually ended up voting for TRUMP!!!! And that this may in fact have been the deciding factor in the election (i.e. that the Democrats unwittingly mobilized millions of Trump voters).

The irony is so sweet that my tongue hurts:

Lena's Reflections 3

Over the year and a half I worked on the campaign, I received threats and abuse at a level I could not have imagined. My Twitter mentions went from rude to downright violent. My phone was hacked, and I was sent images of aborted fetuses, weapons. I was called a fat whore, a retard, told I should be killed in front of everyone who knew me. My experience mimics that of so many women who organized for Hillary Clinton and against Donald Trump, most of them not celebrities. We wanted a female president. We wanted guaranteed control over our own bodies. We wanted equal pay. That made us nasty. That made us targets.

But we kept going, thinking these were the dying moans of the dragon known as the patriarchy being stabbed again and again in the stomach. We believed that on November 9, they'd be licking their wounds while we celebrated. It is painful on a cellular level knowing those men got what they wanted, just as it's painful to know you are hated for daring to ask for what is yours. It's painful to know that white women, so unable to see the unity of female identity, so unable to look past their violent privilege, and so inoculated with hate for themselves, showed up to the polls for him, too. My voice was literally lost when I woke up, squeaky and raw, and I ached in the places that make me a woman, the places where I've been grabbed so carelessly, the places we are struggling to call our own.

81 Once the shock wear off a little and people start looking at the landscape they are going to discover that the Democrat Party is decimated and hold very little power.

They control the big cities, which they can gladly have, and little else. Their next largest power lies in the Senate where they are a minority.

They have lost over a thousand elective offices since 2008 and they've got little left at all levels of government.

We don't need to unify with them, we simply need to ignore them. It's their turn to come to us with hat in hand.

Lena's Final Reflections

A lot of people have been talking about how we need to try to understand how this happened and what's going on in the minds of the people who voted for Donald Trump. Maybe. Maybe. But maybe let's leave that to the strategists, to the men in offices who need to run the numbers. It should not be the job of women, of people of color, of queer and trans Americans, to understand who does not consider them human and why, just as it's not the job of the abused to understand their abuser. It's quite enough work to know about and bear the hatred of so many. It's quite enough work to go on living.

Lena's Reflections 1

At a certain point it became clear something had gone horribly wrong. Celebrants' faces turned. The modeling had been incorrect. Watching the numbers in Florida, I touched my face and realized I was crying. "Can we please go home?" I said to my boyfriend. I could tell he was having trouble breathing, and I could feel my chin breaking into hives. Another woman showed me her matching hive, hidden by fresh concealer.

97 The interior dialectic of PC and all the associated BS with it, with the denouncements, triggers, safe spaces and the like, are only one part of it.

The other part of it is the pandering political liars that encourage and superficially agree with all this BS, but are in their hearts, corporatist sell-outs (looking at you, Hillary), or are so stupid that they also agree with this (looking at you Bernie and Elizabeth), and it is offensive to the remaining normal Americans.

The whole social-political charade has disgusted a lot of Americans (and to read more deeply, a lot of people in Europe too), and is a killing virus to the West unless we can shake it off.

TV, cable and Mass Media in general is not only the conduit, but a big part of the problem. They have a tendency to give equal importance to idiots as they do people who actually know something about the world. Witness CNN giving Van Jones a platform to spew his particular brand of idiocy, because is stirs up ratings. Or MSNBC and their era of Keith Olberman, Melissa Harris-Perry or Al Sharpton, who were all spewing belligerent fools. And they still run out that liar and sociopathic crook Carville for political commentary.

The Media enjoys generating this toxic intellectual waste because it rewards them with the sense that they are making a difference.

This all has to change, or anything good that the Trump Administration does will just be ephemeral.

103 My brilliant comment from last night:

That Pie guy gets part of it.

But he also misses something--

If the Left starts listening, some of them will be convinced.

The Left's attempt to silence dissent is in large part to prevent people from thinking beyond the confines of the Left and leaving it.

Open engagement might not prevent a President Trump-- it may actually make a lot of people abandon their paranoid boogeyman version of him.

105 Most Euros are really just pis*ed that most Americans don't give a damn what as*clowns they vote for in their petty little countries and thereby don't reciprocate their concern about our own as*clowns.

Or to rephrase in sociological terms:

Most Americans fundamentally reject the injection of a reciprocal binary state of relative concern between the more mature and developed states of Europe and their own more paroxysm-laden immature binary state. The relative lack of concern for political externalities of the European political scene conjoined with the even greater relative lack of concern with the affects of American political externalities on Europe is fundamentally frustrating for the Europeans. This combined with their effective irrelevance to American politics creates an environment of heightened anxiety amongst the relatively enlightened people of a tolerant and post-benighted European political framework.

111 This leftist civil war is going to be interesting.

The right, when sent into the wilderness after 2006, at least had a tendency to try and engage with people. The early manifestations got shut down (largely by our own side), but they could at least engage on some intellectual level. We didn't shunt off to safe spaces and cry away the bad ideas. We organized around some very tangible ideas and started winning. Not to say that the nascent tea party emerged unscathed from 2010 to now or that the tea party was made of millions of Milton Friedmans, but we had that somewhere near the core.

What will the left have? Their intellectual leaders are more likely to act as millstones. When you're praising someone like Melissa Harris-Perry as a great intellect, you're going to go very wrong, but she is the kind of person that these people listen to most fervently. Maybe that's just a surface level comparison that we could say is matched by someone like Glenn Beck or Hannity, but when Leftists come together right now, they're just talking about what this guy in the video is denouncing.

I pause at the thought that we are currently in a similar position as the Democrats were in 2008, because we could squander everything just as easily as they did. However, when and if we do, what will we be met with? If all the left has to gather around is Trump hate and identity politics, I think that they may not be able to form as strong a counteroffensive as the Tea Party turned out to be (in fits and starts).

Hope...it's springing but I'm trying to keep it down.

142 Folks on the left can't argue their positions, by and large. They tend to be emotion based and tied into lifestyle politics. Their arguments are generally highly refutable, and after 1-2 layers of point and counter point they have to deal with the cognitive dissonance of having no logical refute. At which point they typically do the debating equivalent of sticking their heads in the sand and abruptly start repeating their last point without acknowledging your counter--over and over again.

I've done a lot of debating the past 15 years or so on fairly neutral and moderated sites where discussions would go hundreds of posts, often with thousands of footnoted words. Debating folks on the right over issues like the 1st Amendment and flag burning, while contentious, actually involved a vigorous back and forth. Debating the left over a comparable issue invariable follows the pattern noted above.

Progressive, leftist socialism has a track record of failure up to and including Gulags and genocide. Support for it has to ignore reality. It is a faith-based religion more than anything else.

174 The libs have balkanized themselves. When what you have to offer is hate for others and then you try to band together a bunch of groups that really don't have a lot of love for each other things tend to go haywire after a while. The only thing holding a coalition of Blacks, Latinos, LGBQTLBT, feminisists, and atheists together is the "minority" label (well, that and public sector union jobs). That can only take you so far when blacks don't really identify with latinos and vice versa, neither like feminists or LGBQLMNOPTs, and most actually have a pretty high belief in a christian god.

The Democratic Party is in tatters, they've lost most of the stats and all of the federal government (that can be voted for). President Obama was so fixated on "fundamentally transforming" the USA, he enraged the people and ruined his party, just like Bush did the GOP.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 11, 2016 12:45 PM (39g3+)

208 I agree with Ace's point that this is a good rant but as an aside would point out that this video is another illustration of the fact that Liberals operate with a globalist, post-nation-state set of assumptions.

While everyone can express an opinion on whatever they want to, for this guy there is not the slightest sense of deference or acknowledgement that this was a decision for the American people to make, who are in a superior position than this Limey poofter to make that decision.

This reminded me of the talking point we hear from time to time from the international left that the American election is too important to be left to just the Americans to decide.

The international left plays on a global playing field because they consider the nation-state to be passe and the notion of self-government within the nation-state has no legitimacy for them because the populations are too benighted to know what is good for them, something that should be left to the judgment of globalist elites.

====================

That's what Pie is saying, but I think he's implying is something we know pretty well already.

The modern left, especially those Millenials that populate the movement, don't know how to do anything else. They honestly believe that screaming "sexist", "racist", "cis-gendered", and "privileged" are valid and effective debate tactics. They see how some people online shrink from the accusations, so they think that they win the argument when in fact all they've done is tell the other person that they are people not worth talking to.

The opportunity for engagement gets lost, but their smugness, reinforced by people like Bee or Oliver, tells them that they just "destroyed" their opponents and convinced the world of their righteousness and virtue.

I think the older members of the left will wake up to the inefficacy of the tactic, but the younger one's just simply do not know any better. We may have beaten them, my friends, (well, you, I voted 3rd party but celebrate Trump's win as a win for America), but they are not going away, and they are the future educators of the country.

This battle is so far from over.

First, Joe said: Look at the data. These whites who gave Trump the swing states are the same whites who elected Obama twice.

Moore, at least nominally, would identify with pre-1968 liberalism more then post-1968 liberalism.

The modern left doesn't give a crap about the private sector union guy making something physical or the beat cop keeping the streets safe.

So far Moore has been able to manage the cognitive dissonance but he, and most of the lefties like him are going to have to choose one side of the 1968 divide eventually.

262 The left as a movement is incapable of introspection. Those urging it now will either forget their own lessons in short time, or be forced out of the movement. Disconnecting from reality is an essential element of leftism. The movement can't exist without it. And argument by smarm and bullying is therefore also essential because they don't have any reality backing them up.

I also want to go on record as solidly anti-reconciliation. Wednesday morning, I was all about graciousness in victory. Then I saw how the left was reacting: the hysteria, the ranting, the insults, and most importantly the violence. And then you also remember how they acted in 2008 and 2012. These are not people that understand gracious victors. They can only understand it, if they bother to notice anything outside the murky delirium of their own heads, as weakness, as a sign that they are right and we know it. So, no reconciliation. They need to be punished, dragged kicking and screaming (as if there is any other way with the left) into reality. Harsh reality.

Then someone said they voted for the black guy and both will and grace shot up yelling there was a black guy. That episode nailed how liberals vote 20 years ago.

====================

I've been predicting a split of the Democratic Party for a few years. I haven't been predicting that it would happen soon, but at some point in the next couple of decades.

I think Hillary's loss might accelerate that.

The basis of my thought is this:

There are two main factions within the Democratic Party, the establishment (represented by people like Andrew Cuomo) and the activist base (represented by people like Bill de Blasio). They largely agree on end goals, but differ wildly on tactics and policy prescriptions to get them there.

Look at something like the Medicaid expansion. Both sides wanted it, but what do you think is going to happen when state budgets in places like New York begin to bust because of it? The establishment will realize that money is finite and they'll have to make some kind of compromise to keep either Medicaid or state services at agreeable levels. The activist base will accept none of that and insist on total funding of everything and anything less than that will be considered an affront to humanity. That internal contradiction (which could be highlighted in a number of different ways) becomes all the more important in states like New York where you have de facto one party rule.

Just think of the Democratic Party from about 1804 to 1856. The main contradiction within the American federal government wasn't between Democrats and Whigs, but between Democrats and Democrats. We'll see the same start at the state level now and spread nationally.

Or not. Whatever. I'm dead and don't know anything.

I would rather see the "new" Cosmo run a take-down article on how Howdy-Doody Clinton dishonors all women by her cosmetic surgery, by her stealing funds meant to help feed starving children so that she could have a wedding dress that costs more than a blue collar wage earner makes in a year.

Or an article about how pretty Kamala Harris is, but how mean and nasty she is to people.

I think that's the NLF's biggest flaw: they made it too easy and painless to abandon. Their product has gotten so poor and their behavior so obnoxious people don't mind giving up a life long habit.

This was an interesting part of the interview tho.

Moore said that Obama went to Flint, and on national TV, drank a glass of the water, and said "The Water is Fine!" but he was LYING.

And, just like Hillary with the Benghazi victim's families, he said this basically to the faces of the mothers who's children were poisoned! They knew he was lying. Moore said the pipes were STILL not fixed today.

Moore said, I hate to say this about Obama because he gets attacked enough...

You think? And there is a reason why. Sh*t like this. He faked a fix. Children were poisoned. It was a "It was a video" moment.

But he still loves him and "voted for him twice."

406 Maybe someone already made this point, and if so, I apologize in advance for repeating, but the freaking-out that we are seeing is not by everyone on the left.

For the most part things are pretty low key here in Iowa. (Yes, there was some dumb march last night, but nobody started fire or breaking stuff) Most of the people who are vocal about politics in my office are left leaning. None of them are going on about how Trump is "not my president", or were unable to come in to work on Wednesday because they had been up all night crying.

My point is, there's still (at least for now) a large gulf between those who are pulling the levers for the D's, and those who claim to speak on behalf of those people (the DNC, the twitterati, etc.).

In the same way that it's dumb to say all Trump supporters are racist, bigot, homophobe, xenophobes, you can't paint all Clinton's supporter's as snowflake, blm, LQBTXYZ.

Unless secession happens, we're all stuck with each other. I believe that if we can engage them in a reasoned, logical discussion our arguments will win out. But we've got to engage them, and we can't do that if we're writing them all off.

Things I'm not saying:
- Trump shouldn't get as much done (or un-done) as he can, esp. in this first year.
- that it's appropriate for grown adults to act like my 3 year old.
- that we should excuse the violence on the left

HA links to a HuffPo article that explains why Hillary's GOTV campaign might have gone one step lower than ORCA. Apparently, up to 30% of contacts in some locales made by the Dem GOTV were made to TRUMP supporters. And even better for the Republican candidate, those contacts made to Trump's voters were the only GOTV contacts they received before the election. The calls were a reminder that they needed to get off their asses and vote for Trump!

413 I think the left's behavior in this post election is going to be disastrous for them. Their control of the country has been wiped out, and their response is claiming that the country is just racist and stupid.

Donald Trump was very flawed, but the fact that he managed to hang on by his fingernails is a blessing, because while the left is burning bridges, we'll be able to enhance our GOTV, we'll be more unified, we'll have 4 years of republican control at least, and all the people who left the Democrats but didn't vote Trump because of the media hit job may be brought into the fold if we play our cards right.

At the end of the day, Trump also hung on to the remaining minority vote. This means that we have hit our floor, and can really only go up. I like Trump but I NEVER expected him to beat Romney on that. We have four years basically to convince the minority voters who don't vote to vote like the minority voters that voted Trump.

I also have to stress that the Never Trump movement almost fucked us on this. We are in the best position we have ever been in as a party, with control of government from the presidency down to the school boards, and they did their best to argue against it, in hopes that the shattered party that followed would be theirs and theirs alone. Their unfair criticisms (not that there aren't fair criticisms) drove down our support a whole hell of a lot. They didn't tip the election, but they certainly tipped the popular vote. They can never be forgotten.

This is a longstanding Internet gripe, but it bears repeating here:

You posted a good, important link, but you fatally undermined yourself by NOT DESCRIBING what the link is about.

Very few people will click on a link of you say simply, "Hey folks, look at THIS link!" Decades of rickrolling and trolling and pranking have scared people off from clicking uncharacterized links -- even perfectly valid ones such as yours -- because they've been burned too often.

To get people to click it, SAY. WHAT. IT. IS. Like so, for example with your link:

====================

It's day 3 after the election. The riots and crying do look really bad, but let's wait to gauge the left's actual reaction for just a little bit.

It probably won't be any better (I fully expect burning cars to become a bit of a staple of the DC area starting sometime around January 20, personally), but who knows? Maybe someone in the party will act as a steadying hand.

I don't say that because I hope for it, but because if they manage it, it could be a sign that they're already ready to seriously fight politically. That's less dangerous to the individuals who would be harmed by more rioting, but it's more dangerous to the nation as a whole.

So, keep a look out.

Kurt's a smart guy with whom I agree with on a lot, but he never missed an opportunity to take a cheap shot at Trump before then going on to make his case against Hillary.

I hope and expect he will be an overall ally, but it's too much to ask the Trump team to put someone like that so close to the center.

509 Yeah, that video was a real winner. One of the things I posted elsewhere was that he wasn't owning up to the fact that the left's belief system created the atmosphere and environment for those special snowflakes to grow into what they have become. Their ideals do not face the young ones with reality and when they logically carry out the principles of leftism, like Islam, like Nazism, like Communism, it becomes a monster.

see Ravi Zacharias Deliver us from Evil if you want to see how that works.

510 The left can't "convince us" because they are cultural Marxists, anti-American globalists, PC trained drones.

Hate for the other is how their whole "movement" is propped up, and fear of being hated has almost been played out entirely.

Strip off the narrative of lies, and the left is revealed as the demonic Succubus it really was from the start. They promised if they got power all would be nirvana ... instead they sent millions of Muslim haters into Europe, accelerated the welfare state, amplified the racist hate (by them, not by the way too tolerant white Christians).

Now all they have is their own failures, their academic arguments exposed as Marxist pap that has ruined nations because it destroys liberty and enslaves those that submit.

Trump is a good man ... so tired of all these Marxist fools getting off on their vile hateful rants. They really think Bernie was pure? WTF did Bernie ever accomplish?

America First ... is why Trump won in a landslide, beyond the cheat, beyond the confused that fell for the hate of the left ... they have no winning argument, they are Critical Theory Marxist subversives at their core.

There were still people making intellectual argument for socialism even during Bush's term. Once the USSR fell, the counter argument was just to point at reality, and the Left gave up on convincing people and decided that force was their only option.

563 Pessimism is when you presume the worst in everything, even good things that happen. Pessimism focuses only on the bad to the exclusion of good.

Realism and experience simply teaches that things eventually always go badly, in the end. Your happy marriage will eventually end in death. Your great job will eventually end in retirement or being fired or the business closing, etc.

Being ready for that and understanding life has a future is wisdom, not pessimism. We live in a fallen world, and things are hard here. Denying that is foolish. Wisdom accepts the bad with the good and is ready for both.

I swear that EVERYTIME I give a lib a fact. One they know. It's ME that isn't looking at the "big picture". The big *f'n* picture is that we are in a scary amount of debt. What other picture is there???
Posted by: gapoz at November 11, 2016 01:41 PM (thyJJ)

If you're relating that accurately, she's actually got you by a technicality, in that the deficit is referring to the yearly budget, while the debt is the accumulated over time debt of the US gov.

So, (hypothetical numbers) 3 yrs ago we had 1 tril deficit, at the end of the year it gets heaped on the debt pile, which goes up. 2 years ago, we have 925 billion deficit...

See? the deficit went down, you knuckledraggin moron!

Boned? The prospect of Myron Ebell or someone similar heading EPA (that is, driving the bus over the cliff) ?

Was listening to a James Fallows interview on NPR the other day, when he nitpicked Trump's pitch about manufacturing, oh getting manufacturing back won't matter 'cause it's all automated.

Well, what matters in a world of automated factories? Available land, energy prices, transportation, consistent regulation, sane corporate tax rates?

All of these things should be spectacular US strengths, right? And if Trump's manufacturing/trade pitch was only incrementally more honest than, say, JFK's 'missile gap', his energy and tax policies should make it work anyway.

It passed 18 trillion a little while ago. It's almost 20 trillion.

And while the reported deficit fell from over a trillion to about half a trillion that has been bullshit. We have still been steadily accumulating debt at a rate of about a trillion a year. We've put on about 12 trillion in debt in 8 years.

The claimed "deficit" numbers are generally bullshit. The way to gauge the actual deficit is to look at the accumulated debt.

This is an easy confusion.

Debt = how much money the US has borrowed or printed wholesale without any economic activity backing it.
Deficit = the difference between what the government is spending and the tax revenues it raises.

Your debt is how much you owe
Your deficit is how much less you're earning than you're spending.

The deficit has gone down, because with GOP in charge of congress the rate of increased spending has slowed.

The debt continues to grow because the deficit exists.

Everyone has their own specific reasons but I, as a Republican of 35ish years went full throttle with Trump because I was sick of being screwed by my own party over a couple of decades. They weren't even hiding it anymore, they refused to represent us and it was honestly near a one party system and there was nowhere/nobody to turn too.

Trumpocrats I am sure experienced similar feelings within the DNC establishment.

The traits of a far left wing niche' and their desire to cut off all debate was not even registering on my radar.

That's not the point I was making. What I was saying was that you can tell the TRUE annual DEFICIT by looking at how much DEBT accumulated during that year. If they claim that the DEFICIT is 500 billion but the DEBT rises that same year by 1 trillion, then you know that the real DEFICIT was 1 trillion and not the bullshit number they reported.

As a conservative, I can personally attest to not being evil or racially motivated to have the views I have. I may be wrong or misinformed or whatever but not evil (I know, I know, that's exactly what an evil person would say. LOL!)

As for what now for the Left, well, do what I did when I felt devastated with Obama's win on '08, I got active. I participated in the Tea Party movement, a movement which IMO helped retake Congress from Obama. And by being active I mean assemble peacefully and leave the place you assemble cleaner than how you found it as we did as we were well aware of the poor optics the OWS protesters had left. OWS left the places they assembled a disaster and BLM protesters, well, they burn down their own communities as if that'll help. It doesn't by the way.\
