Guest Post: "Be Not Afraid"

Sent by Tusk. What follows, until my update, is his:

I like to lower expectations.

When I see a movie, I convince myself beforehand it'll suck.

That way, if it does actually suck, I'm not too disappointed; if it's good, I'm pleasantly surprised.

In this spirit, I've made myself visualize Hillary Clinton's victory speech daily for the past two weeks.

Every triumphant, vengeful gleam in her eye; every note of the cackle unleashed; every shout; every smirk.

It's already happened in my mind a dozen times.

So if it actually happens tonight, it'll just be the thirteenth time I'm experiencing it. And familiarity breeds content.

Many (including the Head Ewok) say that if we lose this election, it's Game Over.

I respectfully disagree.

If she wins, she comes into office with roughly the same field position as Nixon in January 1974. A bare majority of the country now thinks she's crooked; a significant majority has long thought she's generally untrustworthy and unlikeable.

Even if she has a Democratic Senate, the worst-case scenario for her opponents is that they face an unpopular, uncharismatic President, without Obama's magic force-field. (Of course, the flip side is that if Trump wins, he also comes into office with less-than-ideal field position. But utopia ain't on the menu.)

Will she take revenge on her deplorable, irredeemable enemies?

She'll probably try.

And if she does, we'll resist as best we can.

But if she loses ...

Oh boy.

Oh ... boy.

Be not afraid.

Expect the worst, hope for the best.

And vote. And get ten others to vote too.

Then hug your loved ones extra-tight, pray (if that's your thing--otherwise just plain hope) that we do the least-worst thing as a nation, and sit back to watch the fireworks.

See you on the other side.

...

Ace Back Again. Oddly enough, a friend called this morning with this exact same question -- what will be Hillary's caterwauled first line of her acceptance speech? This is the friend who observed that Hillary speaks like she's solving a puzzle on Wheel of Fortune: LITTLE... HOUSE... ON THE... PRAIRIE...!

His guess was "That noise... you just... heard....? The sound of... the world's... tallest... glass ceiling... being... shattered...!"

I told him I thought she already used that line at the Democrat National Convention.

But in fairness, I could see her deploying it again. She has neurological issues. Her brain is all rotten garbage held together by L-Dopa and snakes.

17 Great news! This has all been a dream, and today Ted Cruz, whose refresher course on the Constitution has been well-heeded over the last six months by a receptive, informed American electorate, will ride a wave of historic polls to the Presidency over Joe Biden, an honorable man who simply couldn't defend the disastrous domestic and foreign policy of his boss Barack Obama, who has vowed to spend the rest of his life in a secluded Muslim community in Kenya after he leaves office. Vice-presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Corey Booker had a serious debate that kept strictly to policy, and the only "October surprise" was seen on Bill and Hillary Clinton's faces on national television when the FBI arrested both of them on over seven thousand federal charges. To celebrate the return of federalism, low taxes, and decimated government bureaucracy that's soon to come, tonight we'll all enjoy a delicious Trump steak, which is really a remarkable, very tender and great cut of meat, honestly, and everyone in the country is saying this. God bless America!

Ha ha LOL no I'm kidding it's really actually going to be Hillary or Trump for real.

50 If she wins, agreed that she'll have a disastrous term. On policy she's Obama's third term, doubling down on failing policies. The economy is in bad shape, and this can't be hidden for much longer. She'll flip on things like TPP and be exposed as a corporate shill. She won't get the MSM support that Obama got.

How does Ryan play this on budget matters, and things like TPP. He may wind up working more with House Ds than his own party.

How does McConnell handle SCOTUS and high level administrative appointments?

No matter the outcome, the GOP has been changed. Over 70% of the primary vote went to outsiders.

The brand is different, and is acceptable to millions more brought into the fold. In time, this can include even more minorities.

The Ds are now the party of The Borg. The Rs are the party of People Who Work for a Living.

The #neverTrumpers have voted themselves off the island. The GOPe may too. Your move, Mr. Ryan.

...yeah, weird and unexpected things happen all the time -- usually when you least expect them.

So it's definitely possible that Trump wins. I think if he loses, it will be by a slimmer margin, than, say, McCain / Obama.

But even that is a guess. It depends whose polls you believe. I think averaging of polls also might take a hit this election cycle -- for example, NH has (from memory) Trump +5, Trump +1, Tie, Tie, Hillary +1, Hillary +11.... so RCP says "Hillary +1" or whatever the average is. Which is... I don't know, math would seem to say that you can't just average wildly divergent polls together and come to the truth.

One set of polls is most likely right(ish) and the other set is wrong(ish). We'll find out which is the case soon enough though.

But I think that that phenomena is why there are so many "toss up" states. Some are truly close like FL, but others it's like... errr, both numbers can't be right. Two polls taken in the same period can't come to Hillary +11 and Trump +5, and neither of them be very wrong.

They will do her bidding and they will like it. Now, if Trump somehow pulls this off? Well then, it's fight'n time for the Ole GOPe!

Posted by: WVinMN at November 08, 2016 01:51 PM (BuiC1)

67 If Hillary wins expect to be beaten in the streets for being a Conservative. She's not attacking just Trump, she's attacking all of us and her follows know she have their backs when they attack us. This isn't a normal election and winning will cause them to turn even more violent.

69 It's one thing to think "I'll never vote for Trump!"

It's quite another, I suspect, to see Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump's names on a ballot in a voting booth. And to think "four years of Hillary?"

That's why 3d party candidate support shrinks on Election Day compared to the polling results. No always, Perot being an example, but usually. I'll be interested to see how many votes Jill Stein gets.

I think that semi-passive resistance is the route to take in the years ahead if there is defeat here. We should find ways to undermine the government wherever we can, without putting ourselves on the line too far. Clog the system up, make nothing easy for them to implement. If they can't follow the law, why should the ordinary citizen do so, other than for self preservation? When self preservation isn't an issue, why not take a shot at the system, as they have for so long? Cloward-Piven the hell out of the bastards.

102 Just got back from voting. Very few people there, but this is a gated community on Lake Conroe, mostly retired people, so they are taking their time. I did speak with a couple of Repub poll watchers who were outside, who reported it was busier earlier this morning. Also, they reiterated what we have all heard over the past week or so; the early voting crowds were unprecedentedly large. Never seen the like, ever since they started this early voting. Went to IHOP for some breakfast after voting; per the car radio, the MFM, both local and national are in the bag for the Corrupt Commie C*nt, but that is to be expected.

117 Well, yes, everything WILL be lost if she wins--the courts from top to bottom will sign off on every illegal executive action.

And what they can't get by EO, they'll force by non-defense of lawsuits (and no one will have standing to contest).

The only way to resist the courts is for the states to say "NO!"

And not another failure-theater lawsuit in the same rigged courts--actual resistance. Non-compliance. Non-enforcement.

And that way leads to war.

99% of us won't do shit to stop this. Because that means losing your job and, likely, your freedom. Are you prepared to give up a warm bed, hot meals, your spouse, your children, your family for, what, an idea called America?

Witness all the brave FBI agents who first-hand, intimately and in detail know the evil and corruption this woman embodies who put that idea above their obscene salary by resigning.

So, most of us are going to tell ourselves, "it's not that bad, could be worse" and other rationalizations to not do anything.

This is a theological point of view, mind. Christ will come to save Israel, because they are being overrun.

That always puzzled me: why would the whole world be fighting Israel, and with a powerful US, on the side of Israel, who would dare?

Obama or Hillary are not on the side of Israel. So, sadly, I think that the United States will destroy itself; leaving the world at the mercy of evil.

Pessimistic? Yes. The world was headed the same way in Carter's years, but Reagan gave the world it looks like about 30 years respite on evil winning out.

I don't think we'll get another reprieve like that. Our days of peace and happiness are pretty much about done, I fear.

Still: my call for SMOD is in reality a call for Jesus to return: same death and destruction, but only for the wicked. What's not to like?

I absolutely expect it.

The combination of parasites, vote fraud, early voting and MFM cheerleading will simply be too much for Trump to overcome. I expect that every newspaper in the country has their 'HILLARY TO DONALD: YOU'RE FIRED!" front page mocked up and ready to go.

I'd love to be proven wrong. But I don't think I will be.

I lived in DC for a little over a year after getting married, before we moved out to find better schools for the kids. The city government has a rule that a couple of seats on the Council are reserved for GOP and/or independent members. In practice that meant that ambitious politicians who didn't want to come up the hard way through the Democrat ranks would register as independents and campaign exactly as the Democrats did.

Colorado could go red again. But the district I live in won't.

I do think "polls as news" has been incredibly toxic. It seems to be the only subject talked about anymore when it comes to politics.

And guess who gets to be the poll takers? The same media outlets with an agenda.

302 Just saw that early voting in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, a heavily Dem county, is very low, but Franklin County, another dem county, has very high numbers for early voting. Is there a tea leaf here? Anyone know what's different about these counties?

303

I just got back from voting here (9:30AM) in the SF-San Jose area of Commiefornia.

My precinct shares a polling location with another precinct. Both precincts have voting machines and 4 paper ballot stations. Neither precinct had a line, but my precinct 3 people currently voting, and 2 show up after I signed in. The other precinct had 2 people voting, I think.

This is slightly more people than usual, but this early in the morning, it means little.

However, over the last 6 months, I've seen only local political messages: signs, bumper stickers, mailers; the only national things I've seen are 2 Hillary bumper stickers. It looks like very many people are keeping quiet on politics.

I think this favors Trump, as the radicals are usually act out.

I do not think Trump will win CA, but I think he will get 270+ EVs.

I'll walk past the area again around 4:00PM, and again around 6:00PM, to see what the final turnout looks like.

Posted by: Arbalest the Deplorable at November 08, 2016 02:18 PM (FlRtG)

304 I voted yesterday. I have never in my life voted early but by doing so I was able to fit morning Mass in before work and it seemed important to do so.

Lots of fine people at church today praying for our country and the election. And it is an absolutely beautiful day. I have a feeling of hope such I haven't had for months. I don't know how the final results will turn out, but this is still the absolute best country on the planet and I truly feel that, whatever happens, God is watching over us and it will turn to our benefit.

Even the Hildabeast cannot, ultimately, win against Him even if she pulls off a win in the election.

Have Strong Hearts and go forth in confidence! I have been doing that today and already helped two people at work fill out practice ballots who now will go vote whereas they were unsure if they would or not. Now my vote has been multiplied by three... totally legally. Take that Dems!

Go out and inspire!

No, the truth was their new bosses wanted them to go in a new direction politically, and their old commenters were definitely not of the same mindset. So instead of banning everyone, they went to a commenting section that they suspected or knew most of their regulars would not switch over to (Facebook), in the hopes of bringing in new commenters.

Because they made the mistake of thinking their success was from the brilliance of their writers, not their commenters who refresh the page all day and get eyeballs on ads all day.

I think / hope it backfired on them bigly. Because it was a huge fuck you to the people who made their site a success.

They gave a guy the job to do outreach, and he does it. Along the way he figures out small ways to pass laws or change regs that they can agree on. It's small stuff, but listening to people's concerns can begin to build bridges. That's the point, I think; not a wholesale change in policy or belief to win a group's affections, but making an effort to listen and act in small ways that show you were paying attention, and that don't compromise your core.

I heard this on some exit interview on the radio. I am voting Hillary to see the first female President. Not the right person, nor who will do the best job. I am voting VAGINA, because I have one.

Romney sucked. WSJ and NR nauseatingly started pushing his snide sorry ass in 2005. I think their opposition to Trump is largely based on the fact that the guy they backed lost in a landslide. Like the psycho controlling spouse--if I can't have you, nobody can kind of thinking. Romney vs Obama was an election between two guys in Wall Street pockets who viewed blue collar workers as serfs. Romney was arguably worse because of his stance to let Detroit automakers fail. 47% speech showed who he is, and it ain't pretty.

Election judges in Clinton Township, Butler County confirmed there were issues with two of their eight automated voting machines. Most of the issues came when people tried to vote straight party ticket.

"I went back, pressed Trump again. Three times I did this, so then I called one of the women that were working the polls over. And she said you must be doing it wrong. She did it three times and it defaulted to Hillary every time," Bobbie Lee Hawranko said.

As for people ending up in the ER... there is no deadly dosage of marijuana. You could eat 100 doses of marijuana with no ill effect other than feeling like you wanted to take a nap. And maybe some paranoia, which is why I suspect people might go to the hospital. but there's nothing they can do at the hospital other than give you an IV and tell you to take a nap.

Those two factors are why I don't take any 'news reports' / polls at face value.

What would that solve?

If they bought the weed legally, brought it home, distilled it with alcohol, went through all the effort to turn it in to butter, then cooked with it... you'd still end up with cookies or brownies that could be mistaken for non-pot cookies and brownies, no?

It just seems like a weird argument to me. I mean, I get it -- kids should be ingesting alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, THC, whatever. But isn't that more about good parenting then anything else?

I don't know. It seems like largely a non issue. The risk has always been there -- pot brownies have existed forever, there does not seem to be a rash of kids being accidentally exposed to THC.

Either way, "for the children" is always a weak argument to me.

Would you mind sharing where you found out the total number of votes
in your precinct? I'm going to vote in an hour and want to gauge
turnout. For the record, my precinct went 62% for Tillis in 14, so if
we're cranking the votes out it's good news

Posted by: LawLurker at November 08, 2016 02:49 PM (202DZ)

Very easy, ask the precinct judge. They have the totals of early voting and you just add the number for today. You find that on the little paper ballot they give you to sign, upper right corner. Last ballot is the running total.

Or just ask them. It's not a secret. My precinct is the highest voting precinct in Meck county. We'll vote over 85% probably. Old rich white guys, with a mix of limousine liberals, Eastover School.

601 If Hildabeast wins, this is what I will listening to tonight, for it will truly be the end of our constitutional republic.
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

Posted by: Lizzy at November 08, 2016 02:56 PM (NOIQH)

Like I said, certain % of the population has negative (mental) effects from smoking weed. As in, they don't like it. Makes them anxious. Or paranoid.

But it's medically impossible to overdose on marijuana. It's one of the only drugs that that is true for.

If some kid had a mental breakdown and jumped out a window -- I mean, could you blame the weed? I guess. In the same way you can blame the alcohol for when people kill themselves. It could be a contributing factor I guess, but normal, non-suicidal people don't get high (or drunk) and kill themselves.

This is another one of those strawmen.

The strains of weed available today and more... available, and more crossbred. But they existed back in the '70s. But in the '70s people used to smoke several joints of shit mexican brick weed to get high, now people smoke 1/10th the amount to get high because they have access to less shitty weed.

It's like saying "people can get more drunk faster from craft beers then they could from bud light back in the '70s, so craft beers should be illegal."

I mean ... ??

632 Well done, Tusk, and thanks for some positive words.

However, I believe our "opposition" party would be almost as feckless with Hilary as Obama. I suspect there have already been GOPe meetings where discussions were along the lines of, "She'll put forth a crazy gun confiscation plan, claiming a mandate, which she knows won't pass. We'll squawk, and she'll moderate it just a bit, and we'll get to claim a partial win. And in return, we'll back 90% of her amnesty plans (which we want anyway), and we'll tell the rubes we got the important concessions and they simply have to accept the new reality and get with the new global world."

Anyone think differently about the broad strokes?
