Here is an interesting article about a question that we ask quite a bit around here...Who We Are As a People -- The Syrian Refugee Question, from the magazine of Hillsdale College.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who recently named Merkel as her favorite world leader, has frequently indicated that acceptance of refugees is an important reaffirmation of America’s commitment to diversity. It is a reaffirmation of "who we are as Americans," she has said, as if the American character is defined by its unlimited openness to diversity. To show the bipartisan nature of this commitment, Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has used the same phrase to explain his approval of the refugee program. In both cases, the clear implication is that America's commitment to diversity outweighs considerations of national security. Indeed, in what can only be called a self-willed delusion, proponents of the refugee program seem to believe that their commitment to diversity makes us stronger and more secure as a nation, and that any opposition to the program is racist, xenophobic, and most particularly Islamophobic.Powerful stuff. From a strictly economic standpoint, we'd get far more humanitarian bang for the buck with direct aid, rather than taking in a relatively few. And by pushing the Arab nations to step up to do their fair share.
Diversity has been way oversold as a desirable end. It has no place in our immigration policy as a desirable goal in and of itself. It's not racist to say that the people who we do let in should share common core American values.

Refugees have nothing to do with "diversity", never have, never will. It's kinda right there in the name - "refugee". They're fleeing something. In law and practice, they're fleeing active conflict or systematic persecution.
The first (first) principle of refugee relief and management is to keep them near to their homes. So their home country can be rebuilt/reconstituted.
Those seeking to spread Syrians all over the globe are basically trying to destroy Syria, forever. Of course they lack the intelligence, or sense of responsibility, to recognize this.
Syrians are refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and any of the peninsular/Gulf Arab states. They are MIGRANTS anywhere else.
The US, as these idiots who now rule us probably don't even know, not only basically invented the concept of international refugee relief and resettlement, but to this day provides almost all the resources (financial, physical, commodity, logistics, and political will) to carry out these and other humanitarian operations.
The "global community" owes the US much more than it could ever repay, morally and literally, for the way we have provided help to the afflicted for going on two generations now.
Ignorance, low intelligence, and moral narcissism are destroying the US, and the baleful impact of that toxic mix is on spectacular display in these illiterate and stupid arguments from the likes of the vile dimwit criminal (Hillary) and Ryan.

We have always been open to helping others but America has never had a moment's difficulty turning away any "refugees" that we didn't care for.
On Ellis Island, if there was even a sniff of an issue you were turned around and sent back. In WWII, America had no stomach for accepting Jewish refugees - and when one starts talking about real refugees there are none that qualify in anything near the status of European Jews of WWII - and turned them away. There was nothing wrong with that. That was America's prerogative. America works in the interests of Americans, not anyone else, and has no need to feel bad or apologize to anyone for doing so.
It isn't a surprise to see Paul Ryan taking up the leftist argument that America is all about diversity and the Indonesian America-hater's argument of "who we are" (which, when he says it, of course, has nothing to do with America or Americans as Barky has not even one shred of American sensibilities about him).
America has been about two things; individual freedom and winning - winning for America. That is what this country was founded to do and "who we are". The Founders understood that the basis of all individual freedom lies in private property and that is why "life, liberty, and property" are the foundational keys to the soul of this nation. Haven't looked, but I'd bet that we, again, provide the overwhelming bulk of resources to Syrian refugees in surrounding countries. Who "we are" is, and has been, the indispensable and endlessly generous and active donor and operator to help people in need. Importing refugees into the US, thus helping permanently alter or destroy their home countries, is not "who we are".
And Vic is right if referring to the mass Euro migration. Only estimate I ever saw was an UNHCR one from Greece that said less than 20% of incoming were from any conflict zone (i.e. qualified under UNHCR guidelines as "refugees").

The devotion to diversity is simple. When you hate a culture that has freedom as the cohesive glue that keeps it together, which limits the power of the elite and grants it to the individual, you have to destroy that cohesion.
So you destroy the culture. The left isn't interested in bringing different races, ethnicities, religion, etc together to the USA, they want to bring totally divergent cultures and philosophies of life and government organization in to cause DIVISIVENESS. To finish it, they bring in numerous different cultures to overwhelm what it left.
And then the elites will declare that the only way all these "diverse" groups can be managed is through iron fisted government sanctioning. Hence their full power over the country.

The author makes a lot of great points, one of which is yes, we have freedom of religion here, but does that mean we need to take in immigrants whose religion does not allow for tolerance of other religions? Of course not. He makes the case that it is not just allowable, but necessary, to question potential immigrants on their religious views.

The US has been a unique refuge for the persecuted, one of our many unique positive things to be proud of.
It wasn't so much for "the persecuted". Yes, this society was first established with the notion of free exercise of religion - mostly those Christians who were at odds with the powers that be in Europe - but much of immigration into America was due to the fact that we were a rapidly expanding country and open to new populations from Europe, essentially "family" of those who already made up this society. We weren't scouring the world for anyone who's country was at war (there have always been millions and billions in such circumstances) and those who were trying to come in as that type of refugee had different procedures to follow than your general immigrant. And when immigration was large enough we instituted strict quotas and reductions.

I would agree but my point was that that doesn't matter. It was America's choice as to who would be let in and America needs to answer to no one for those choices. European Jews were not America's responsibility.
The comparison of those actual refugees with today's MIGRANTS is absurd and vile. So, of course, one hears such idiocy from the administration and others.
But the comparison makes the point that much more strongly when compared to the laughable arguments that they put forward for accepting the whole of the third world, today, as if they are all our responsibility and as if America has a history of feeling responsible for such people. We don't, rightly so. People who care so deeply for the Syrians, or whomever, can privately fund anything they want to help them out in their own countries or help them move around in their own world. They can knock themselves out donating to whatever cause they want. But they have no moral backing to argue that we are bound to accept any of them here, as citizens. That's just insane.

1. The (current) investigation is closed.
2. Hllary is not to be indicted now.
Therefore, no pardons will (can?) be issued.
3. The ENTIRE COUNTRY knows all about this.
4. The vote is on 08 November (2 days from now).
Many early votes have been cast, and there are many reports of voter / voting fraud ... and there are investigations.
But the vast majority of votes happen 2 DAYS from now, and I expect many LIVs fence-sitters, independents, democrats and square-dance-callers will heed those days to become outraged enough to vote for Trump.
I think this sequence of events is one the Democrats really didn't want, and the end result really hurts ... more than most other possibilities.

If you share that belief and the desire for a life based on self determination, knowing full well that that means that nothing is guaranteed and you're more likely to fail and die alone in a ditch than eek by under the socialist system you're fleeing... welcome! If you don't share those beliefs, if you want a way of like that is secure, managed, and meted out according to some central authority... why the fuck are you coming here?
America was never supposed to the the "land of prosperity" where the streets were paved with gold. That bullshit stupidity fell apart and anyone coming with that idea in mind got a rude awakening on arrival at Ellis Island where they were turned away if they could not demonstrate the willingness and ability to create a new life here, on their own, without any expectation of public support or free shit.
If they were allowed in... IF... they crossed over to NJ or NJ and found themselves homeless, hungry, and without anything but their own abilities. Some built a life from that. Some said, "fuck this" and left. Some died trying.
Of course, almost no one in America believes in self determination, freedom, or the responsibility and opportunity to succeed or fail on the basis of (and in proportion to) your ability anymore. We want things to be "fair". If you have more than someone else, that is not fair. If you are more successful or earn more than someone else, it's not fair... and likely racist/sexist/ etc.
Rights? Property? What does that mean when people can vote and, by the force of law, take what you have earned? Where are rights when two people who engage in the same act that has been deemed illegal can have entirely different outcomes, despite all actions and evidence, and one will be prosecuted and imprisioned while the other is excused by the state and never subjected to the determination of a jury?

In the United States, the pardon power for federal crimes is granted to the President of the United States under Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution which states that the President "shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment."
If I read that right and Wiki is correct- again, I know, Wiki) one could get a pardon simply for the things existing even if no one knew about it- say pardoning a black ops group that no one outside a small group of govt people even knows exists.
So yeah, Zero could write a pardon that clears her of all crimes that were committed or may have been as a result of her work or information she had related to her duties as Secretary of State and bamph, justice denied. Then it is just the semantics that by accepting the pardon she is acknowledging such things happened, but lets face it her supporters don't care and the LIVs will never care enough to hold it against her and we get one foot deeper into the banana republic state we already basically are and have been sliding to for years.

When there is already evidence in the public record that Hillary forwarded classified information to Chelsea (released by state department) and had her maid printed out classified materials including the presidents daily briefing.

The venue holds 7,000 people. Many more are going there.
This is in a residential area; there are cars everywhere; on the streets, on the side streets, at the businesses nearby that are closed. Cars everywhere.
People walking on the streets like they're going to a festival.
Also... for those of you who are familiar with the area, lots of traffic coming in from the west, which is Oakland County, the area Republican stronghold.
Lots of white, middle class Americans walking to the event.
And this is an hour and a half before the event is taking place.

I do know that the feds go hard after the Right, and go light on the Left. I also know the federal government is chock full of leftists that hate America, and have proved it time after time.

5 days ago the info was out , the FBI was on the verge of indicting, 99% sure she was guilty. There was other foreign agency hacking etc.........Now 2 days before the FBI head clears her with no way to have went through all the info and justified a decision. The world came down on him. we've been hearing in the previous days that Lynch has been blocking the FBI from investigating. She is NOT going to move to indict Hillary. Not in this lifetime.
Just the fact that Hillary had state emails on an a laptop owned by the husband of her aid, neither of whom have security clearance is a prosecutable offense. We keep hearing the same thing out of Comey. All of this evidence that she was negligent, careless. Then he rewrote the statute to say that because she didn't INTEND to not secure classified emails, a "reasonable" prosecutor wouldn't bring this case.
He knows full well, because he has been told, that Lynch WILL NOT seek to prosecute Hillary.
You have the current president who has broken all tradition and protocol regarding electing his successor by actively campaigning for a candidate from his party and smearing the opposing candidate. You have two previous presidents who have done the same in retirement by endorsing the opposing party candidate.
James Comey has taken the Washington insider cowards way out. Everyone keeps yammering on about bullshit pensions,etc. when it has nothing to do with that.
Comey wants to stay on at FBI. So he is not going to buck his boss on this. If Hillary wins, despite Comey's attempts to alert everyone to how she violated laws that his boss won't prosecute her for, he will stay on at FBI now because he is doing exactly as he is told by Lynch. She has told him to go out and tell everyone today that there is nothing new in the current emails.
Weiner will end up vigorously prosecuted for his sexting. He is definitely expendable since he and Huma now are separated. So he will get to be the consolation prize in this entire sick affair.
And if Trump wins? Comey will stay on at FBI unless it can be proven he refused to do his job. Otherwise, as was mentioned on here a couple of days ago, he cannot be fired simply because his investigation didn't end up in an indictment.

On the way out the door, JEF will pardon Hillary and Bill. Cheryl Mills, Huma, etc. will do a few years for obstruction, and HRC will be named an unindicted co-conspirator, and that's as far as it goes. Nobody will touch the Clinton Foundation graft. Cheryl, Huma, etc. will keep their mouths shut, because they don't want to end up dying in prison like Jim McDougal. It's a lot better in the long run to be Susan McDougal. The investigations will have the potential to consume the administration, so they will start a war for "wag the dog" purposes. Who would impeach a President inthe middle of a war? Only unpatriotic Republicans, that's who. So she will slide by. The chickens will come home to roost on the economy, and she will be a one-term President. Pence defeats Cruz for the nomination, and he's President in 2020.

I drove by here at 4:30.
HUGE numbers of people attending.
Walking from their homes in nearby subdivisions, parking at businesses that aren't open, it's HUGE.
And this was an hour and a half before the event.
Also.. lots of traffic coming in from the west, meaning people from Oakland county, which is generally a republican stronghold. But lots of locals walking to the event. In a very blue collar area.

The president can fire Comey, but he cannot fire him for political reasons. That was the entire Democrat screaming match aimed at Bush when he requested that 9 fed prosecutors be removed in 2006. The Dems said it was political and Bush said it was because they were refusing to prosecute terrorism cases.
It ended up with a year long special prosecutor involved in determining if the prosecutors were unfairly fired. It was determined that 8 were not fired for political reasons' but the 9th, in New Mexico was. There was a Republican congressman from NM who had been jonesing to have the prosecutor fired and that is what caused the determination that his firing was political.
That entire "Political " bullshit argument was started again by none other than that legal genius, Al Franken. Franken is on the Judiciary oversight committee and sent a press release out that he would be demanding to have Comey dragged before the committee to explain his political decision to open up an investigation into a candidate and to announce it before an election And to also find out why he is not controlling his rogue FBI agents who are leaking information to Rudy Giuliani.

Yep. But for any serious crime, when it crosses state lines it becomes federal. And the very nature of the CGI is both national and international. And obviously some are federal by nature.
They might get the on some things like state income tax charges not paid but let's face it, we will be told that isn't important if we hear about it all from the news.
I think the only thing that might do it is if the charges are so obvious they can't be ignored. But that seems like a really high bar given the way things have gone so far.

So many things are becoming shockingly real. I, like many here, have lived and worked in countries ruled by socialists or authoritarians. But never lived during the takeover. I always wondered how this could be. Now, unfortunately, I am living it. Right now. In my own country. Where I always felt safe and grateful when I returned. This is the moment where it should be more obvious than ever before that there are truly two sets of law, one for the people, and one for the ruling class. That may have always been intellectually known, but this decision has made it obvious in a powerful, emotional way.
I'll vote on Tuesday, but I don't feel that we nobodies have any power to determine the destiny of our shared fate at this point in time, and without a massive paradigm shift, it will only get worse. The elite own our society, and will not give it up without a fight. Seeing that we're not about to fight them on the matter, they're going to remain entrenched for the foreseeable future. They own the media, the entertainment industry, the education system, most of the big corporations, pretty much all of the bureaucracy, and the courts are theirs. That's what we're up against.
Maybe one of you guys can talk some optimism here, but I'm all out of sunshine and giggles.

Hard to say. The letter specifically said they hadn't changed their opinion regarding "Secretary Clinton". It didn't say anything about Huma as far as I know.
Comey seems very careful with his words so the fact that he didn't say that they hadn't cleared everyone involved leaves the door opened for going after others.

I believe that our current society has been so thoroughly indoctrinated that it will be very difficult to extricate the rot.
Politics are the game of the left, it's their life, it's their culture, everything is political to the leftists, they enjoy controlling people and they have few personal rules to restrict them. The result is all that matters. They fight like their lives depend on it. We generally fight like it's a hobby.
Social media is a huge weapon of theirs, while the right has occasionally been able to utilize it to its own benefit, the left literally owns the medium, and writes the rules. They can organize their people better than ever before with modern communication, and while we can occasionally hijack their narrative, they can place a great deal of pressure even on the non political with their outrage squads.
This is an asymmetric struggle, and we on the right are always playing defense, trying to preserve what's left of the Constitution and the parts of our society which are worth keeping. That is a much more difficult fight to wage than what the left wants to do. For them, every generation, they want to tear down another part of the old America. Much easier to destroy than to maintain.
That does not mean that the fight is not worth fighting, that we are always destined to lose, or that we can't find a better way to beat the left. It does mean that it is an incredibly difficult struggle, and the odds are massively against us.
