Two Odious Pretend Conservatives Bitterly Shout At Each Other About Politics

I know, you can't get enough of that, and it never happens on cable TV.

But you might just want to root for injuries here.

I did enjoy watching Bill Kristol's skin turn an unhealthy shade of purple as if he was choking on a plum-pit or maybe just on bile.

"I'm not bitter," he said bitterly.

A moment later he said "I am upset."

Generally when leaders fail they go away - either quietly and with some dignity (Rome/Britain) or screaming as they get crucified, literally (Carthage). But either way they generally go away.

Oddly for the last 30 years or so objective failure has had absolutely no effect on the career arc of both pundits and politicians.

Sigh. There was a series of SNL sketches with Jon Lovitz, and in them IIRC he was a talk show host was gay and wanted to be a bee.

then they wonder why Trump got the nomination. If Hilly wins (God Ferbid and Ferfend it), these are the people who will be happy to see the Repubs as the permanent minority party so long as they get to be the leaders, the head of the weasel, so to speak.

153 Kristol crying on air? What a sad and pathetic creature.

This idea that the media was easy on Trump throughout this process by giving him 'free media' or 'earned media' is nonsense.

It is true that Trump got lots of air time because he was willing to call in or be interviewed by any and all media folk.

But from start to finish they were baiting him constantly and the media always thought by giving him so much rope, Trump would hang himself all the faster. And after every gaffe or insult or foot-in-the-mouth moment, they duly pronounced him finished. But he wasn't.

If Trump loses, there needs to be a fight for control of the GOP between the sovereigntists and the globalists.

This is the most important issue, because sovereignty precedes debates about size of government, regulatory vs laissez-faire, high taxes or low taxes, etc.

The logical end result of globalism is a global 'European Union' with all regulatory decisions and taxing decisions taken at a supranational level and imposed on the constituent states, and states over time would lose their significance. It's what Hillary dreams of when she speaks to her donors of a hemispheric 'common market' with open trade and open borders (and unsaid but of course included, a common currency controlled by a single central bank).

But it is also the dream of the Paul Ryan wing of the GOP.

How it became considered 'conservative' to destroy the power of local self-governance of communities and nation-states in favor of regulatory convenience for multinational business and a utopian vision of global economic efficiency is a tale that needs to be exposed and told.

Even now Republicans like Kristol and Scarborough don't get it. They'll never get it. Their histrionics aside, they fail to see they are part of the problem--Kristol, especially.

Hillary Clinton's history, actions and behavior indicate the presence of a genuine psychosis of some sort, perhapsexacerbated by the onset of Parkinson's Disease or some other ailment. Take, for example, her stated desire to impose a no-fly zone in Syria. The Russians are flying missions in Syria in support of their ally, Assad. They've brought state-of-the-art antiaircraft and anti-missile systems with them. Declaration of an unenforceable no-fly zone could possibly spark a conflagration.

And then there's the corruption. Bill Clinton's behavior. The Clinton Foundation pay-for-play scandals. It goes on and on. Hillary Clinton is exactly what the media portrayed Richard Nixon to be but never was, and supposed thought leaders like Kristol think she's the lesser evil to Donald Trump.

Delusional. Dangerous. Doomed.

I'm in favor of creating one or two enduring examples.

It really saves time in the long run.

Bring back the meaning of "byword." The sort of place that people shake their heads whenever it is mentioned. For centuries. A haunt of jackals. That sort of thing.

I give up. I can't take the polls anymore.

Either this is a wave election, a massive revolt against and a rebuke of the powers that be or it's just another American show pony election about nothing.

If it's the first, then Trump's verbal awkwardness, his blunders and comments about fat beauty queens will not harm him, but the election is not about him but the system. A few faux pas will not stop a tidal wave of anger.

If it's the latter, and the mood of the country is really not anger, but complacency, Hillary will win.

We're angry but I don't know how the nation as a whole feels and the polls aren't enlightening me, they're only making me more confused.

Then there are the Cruz voters that he doesn't like either. So he wants well over half of the base gone.

And, even more hilariously, he'd like to purge well over half of the elected leaders of the party. Y'no, crazy wingnuts like Mitch McConnell, who has failed to come out and call Trump Hitler. Hell, he even thinks Ryan is a bit squishy.

Iraq was the most successful war in the history of the U.S. We defeated the fourth largest standing army in the world in 30 days with less than 200 casualties.

All we needed to do is establish a 50 to 100 year timeline for the exit strategy. Trump is correct that once you defeat a country, all the oil revenue is ours. That money would pay first for the troops there, then for infrastructure for the country.

Had we immediately provided electricity, water and sewage to Baghdad and then other cities, plus continued employment for their army, it would have been easy to maintain order. After that, all children would attend schools that taught only english and a legal system would have been established to make Mosul just like Milwaukee.

Colonialism. It works.

352 I'm all for nation building.

It works.

Only in a nation of Young Churchills and Kiplings, like the late 19th century Britain was.

In a nation of Michael Moores and Stephen Colberts, like the USA is now, not so much.

------------

Yes, I know that now. And now knowing that I will likely not support another war in that part of the world.

But I'm quite confident we will be back there fighting a broad scale war - not what we are doing now - once again.

Third times a charm.

Scott Adams has been talking about Trump's persuasion abilities. One of the big ones is "talking past the sale". That is, you assume the thing you are trying to sell as having already happened, and then talk about what comes after.

The media is using this same technique. They want to talk about what happens after Trump loses, to get even Trump talking about what happens after that thing they want to happen comes true.

You notice they never ask Hillary if she will accept the result if she loses. It is all part of an effort to convince the Trump voters that Trump will lose, hoping that if the voters are convinced they won't bother to vote.

I don't think we really tried nation-building in Afghanistan. We were basically out of there pretty quickly until Obama decided it was a good war and got us back in and doubled our casualties there for no reason.

423 You notice they never ask Hillary if she will accept the result if she loses. It is all part of an effort to convince the Trump voters that Trump will lose, hoping that if the voters are convinced they won't bother to vote.
Posted by: Anon Y. Mous

How awesome and Reaganesque would it have been for Trump to have answered that with something like "yes, I will accept the results of me winning even if Hillary claims the Russians stole the Election"

424 If I were President Trump, I would hold a TV press conference sitting at a table with a stack of paper representing Obama's executive orders. And then I would announce my intention to rescind them all, and then, very slowly so the camera could follow, write "VOID" on one after the other, and maybe even read some of the more egregious ones. I'd record the event myself and send a copy on DVD to Obama, in case he didn't see it live.

426 409 Sometime around June of 2017 you'll all be begging Billly and his buddies the Koch brothers for money and help reconstituting the party.

You'll need American Spectator and Weekly Standard because everybody else will have discredited. No credible media will touch the today's pro-Trump blogs. Reality bites and you're gonna have to get used to it.
Posted by: Maurice at October 20, 2016 04:38 PM (csjq3)

Wow, someone obviously does not read the American Spectator. GOPee, Troll harder.

The Weakly Standard, on the other hand, can die a much needed death like the post Buckley National Review should.

What you and your ilk simply don't get is that we DON'T think that "The Donald" is wonderful, far from it. But the GOPee kept telling us to eat our Globalist Amnesty Turd Sandwiches and like them, and Donald Trump was perhaps the first, or perhaps the most prominent, to tell the GOPee to get lost.

One the things Trump said was that the Dems pander to the black vote and minorities and they never get anything. I think he said to her, "you do it every 4 years".

I wonder if that hit home with some.

438 56 A couple of interesting things from politics:

1. Hillary mentioned nuclear weapons related secrets during the campaign that apparently has the Pentagon irked. (Those guys can be so touchy about their secrets. Chill dudes.)

2. The guy that orchestrated the Trump campaign violence met every day (at one o'clock) with the campaign and the DNC. Probably to talk about golf and the grandkids. Best guess.

And yet the entire "intellectual" GOP is with her. They know she's a fascist but they support her because Trump is embarrassing? Trump threatens to preserve what's left of the nation as a nation? He dislikes Saudi Arabia?

Anyway, his debate performance yesterday was most likely fine, and hers was horrendous enough to convince more Berners to not vote for her.

Wiki emails have lots of nasty stuff about oppo research they did on Bernie. And lots of media manipulation and sycophancy.

Maybe consider a Taurus Judge. It can take a .410 shell, and the size might be perfect for toddlers hands and motor skills (in loading), and the reduced kick from a .410 load would probably be welcome too.

Husband spent time with other operations in Afghanistan 2006-2010. Try learning from actual military members not just whatever the Wa Post wants to report.

449 I am NOT going after any regular commentors here who would fall into that catagory. HOWEVER I do believe on the surface and deep down that his is a Binary choice and I disapprove of any any third choice and that includes not voting. And I say that without any acrimony or anger. But it is how I feel
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Look. I get that you're leery of the ban-hammer and avoiding anything that could be construed as "personal attacks", but the simple fact of the matter is that anyone that doesn't think this election is a BINARY choice is flat out delusional. There are only 2 outcomes of this election - President Trump or President Hillary Clinton.
I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but there are no "vote your conscious" Democrats unwilling to pull the lever for Hillary. There may be lazy Democrat voters that just go, "Eh" and stay home, but if you oppose the policies of the left that Hillary will implement, you either go out and negate a Hillary vote or you help her win. Those are your two choices.
The idea that there is a moral "no vote" against Trump that is consequence free is like claiming Unicorns and Bigfoot are real.
The press in the tank for Trump during the primaries? He was assailed from the beginning as a clown who would self-destruct, outrage over the wall, Mexican rapists, McCain etc.. It simply got worse when facing off against Hilary, maybe it looks like praise in comparison.
