Hillary Is Not a "Soulless, Pragmatic Corporatist Who Will Preserve the Status Quo," as Pro-Hillary "Conservatives" Claim.
She Sees Herself as a Messianic Joan of Arc to Deliver the Left's Revelation to the Earth.

This post is by "Tusk." I had an exchange with him about this delusion of the pro-Hillary NeverTrump brigades and suggested he write his thoughts up.

His post entirely after this colon:

Lots of people think Hillary's a soulless, transactional, pragmatic, cynical pol.

I wish she were--that would limit the damage she can do.

I fear she's something far worse.

She's not soulless. She's not cynical.

She's messianic.

She got into politics through religion. Youth activism in her church was her gateway to wanting political power--to save others, not to aggrandize herself, you understand.

Her graduation speech in college called for a "more immediate, ecstatic and penetrating [odd choice of words there!] mode of living."

And now that she's on the cusp of becoming a world-historical figure by breaking the Glass Ceiling Patriarchy Boys' Club, she’s going to give us that "mode of living," whether we want it or not.

Regular politics won't do for Hillary. She's going to re-educate us.

This is why it boggles the mind that any social conservative could prefer Hillary to Trump. Sure, Trump is vulgar and indecent as an individual. But he doesn't want to reprogram society to write over what's left of traditional morality, replacing it with an "it-takes-a-village," communitarian love of Big Sister.

In Trump's world, even though he himself is obviously a social liberal and it's painful when he tries to fake otherwise, pockets of traditionalist resistance to recent social change will be allowed to exist.

Not so much in Hillary's world. It took her forever to admit she wants gay marriage, but she's on the train now, and something tells me the DOJ, EEOC, Ed Department, etc. in her administration are going to have the zeal of the convert when it comes to continuing the cultural jihad launched under Obama.

The late Michael Kelly nailed it in 1993, when he wrote a New York Times Magazine profile of her titled "Saint Hillary." It opened:

Since she discovered, at the age of 14, that for people less fortunate than herself the world could be very cruel, Hillary Rodham Clinton has harbored an ambition so large that it can scarcely be grasped.

She would like to make things right.

She is 45 now [how time flies! -- Tusk] and she knows that the earnest idealisms of a child of the 1960's may strike some people as naive or trite or grandiose. But she holds to them without any apparent sense of irony or inadequacy.

She wants to "make things right"--that is, she wants to make us right.

And right now we're all so, so wrong to her.

That's why it was so natural (and telling, and terrifying) for her to call her political enemies "irredeemable."

That's why she sees enemies and conspiracies behind every bush.

That's why she thinks everyone who opposes her needs to be reeducated or crushed.

Trump really only wants to make his opponents think differently in one regard: He wants them to think Trump is awesome. Beyond that, as to what you think and say, he doesn't care.

Hillary wants to make her opponents think differently across the board.

She wants to save our souls.

That's scary.

Afterthought by Ace. Tusk had mentioned Hillary's sudden conversion from Goldwater Girl to firebreathing feminist priestess in just a few years.

But he didn't mention it in the post.

Let me comment quickly on that: That sort of conversion -- from believing in one thing intensely one day, then believing even more intensely the exact opposite of what was just intensely believed the week before -- betrays the mind of the Natural Born Zealot, someone who feels philosophically uncomfortable and psychically out-of-sorts unless they have some Grand Cause to join in, some great crusade which will allow them to put the heretics to the sword.

I don't see myself doing that. I may abandon the GOP -- actually, I already have -- and I may join the Democrats as a make-peace-with-our-permanent-rulers pragmatic move, suing for peace with our new permanent masters after the GOP has proven itself to be without heart and determined to surrender.

But I will never actually carry their banners nor deliver their sermons for them. I'm a bit too old to have a sudden conversion over political beliefs.

The sorts of people who do this sort of thing -- the 180 degree full reverse in all beliefs, while maintaining a militant and dogmatic belief throughout the period of "evolution" -- are Natural Born True Believers, not "pragmatists."

They must believe something. They must. They have to. Their minds abhor the vacuum of non-belief. Their brains recoil in disgust from doubt.

Credo ergo sum -- I believe, therefore I am.

Obama wasn't doing it for primarily religious reasons, he's just a boring technocratic commie that spouts canned Marxism on cue.

Now, his foreign policy, in which you could fairly say the net effect has been trying to re-establish an Islamic caliphate, *that's* religious.

71 I'm in the process of updating the Mohammed Image Archive, and by sheer coincidence one of today's updates involves -- Hillary Clinton!

I'm uploading screenshots from "The Innocence of Muslims," and have written the following caption for them, explaining the whole story from the very beginning, as if to someone who has no prior knowledge of the scandal. Here is the caption -- any suggestions for corrections or edits?:

---

In 2011, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a Coptic Christian originally from Egypt but living in the United States, decided to make a movie about the persecution of Copts in Egypt and about how the ideology at the root of Islam allows for and even commands oppression of non-Muslims. The film was to include actors portraying Mohammed, his family and followers performing scenes from the Qu'ran and Hadiths -- most of which (from a non-Muslim perspective) show Islam in a bad light. Nakoula rightfully suspected that it would be difficult to find actors for such a controversial film, so he instead announced in the casting call that it was going to be a film entitled Desert Warrior, a "historical Arabian Desert adventure film." Because none of the actors hired knew anything about Islam, they then unsuspectingly re-enacted many classic scenes recounted in the Qu'ran and Hadiths, even using all the actual names of the real historical personages -- with one exception, Mohammed. Nakoula felt that all he needed to do was change the name of this one character and as a result no one working on the film would even know they were making a movie and Islam, so in the actual dialogue Mohammed was called ""Master George." Then afterwards in post-production Nakoula overdubbed every instance of "Master George" with "Mohammed," and the film was transformed from an "Arabian Desert adventure" to a re-enactment of Islamic scriptures which make (accurately) Mohammed look like a villain.

The full two-hour film, half about the modern oppression of Egyptian Copts and half about the origins of Islam, was apparently only ever shown publicly once. Instead, a shortened 14-minute "trailer" version leaving out most of material about Copts and instead focusing primarily on Mohammed's story was uploaded to the Internet with the new title "Innocence of Muslims" on July 1, 2012, by the producer Nakoula under the pseudonym "Sam Bacile," to avoid personal reprisals from islamic extremists.

Since that date, the 14-minute trailer version has been uploaded, deleted, re-uploaded and deleted countless times on a variety of video sites by users around the world, and been the subject of multiple lawsuits in various countries. A garbled version o the film's complicated history can be read at wikipedia, but that too has been edited, rewritten and re-edited countless times.

The film achieved international infamy and played a major role in American politics when the United States Department of State falsely claimed that a premeditated attack by terrorists against the American embassy in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 was not a terrorist attack at all but instead a spontaneous protest against Innocence of Muslims that had simply gotten a bit out of control -- leading to the death and dismemberment of the American ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens. Confusing the matter, publicity over this attack and its false rationale then spurred numerous real protests against the film worldwide in subsequent days, leading to at least 50 death and hundreds of injuries.

To cover up its misstatements, the United States government then persecuted Nakoula and jailed him for trivial "parole violations" (such as using a pseudonym while making the film) from a past arrest, as well as intentionally announcing his real name to the world, so that he would be targeted by Muslim extremists seeking revenge. Since Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State during this entire time and was therefore the person responsible for the misleading statements about the film and the treatment of Nakoula, the entire series of incidents surrounding Innocence of Muslims became a major scandal dogging her political career.

At the time of this writing, two different versions of the 14-minute trailer for Innocence of Muslims remain onlone at Youtube: a high-resolution version here and a standard-resolution version here. If these are later taken down, they are almost certain to be subsequently re-uploaded by other users; you can ususally find the current survivors of this cat-and-mouse upload/delete game simply by searching for the phrase "Innocence of Muslims" at YouTube. And if there are none there, the trailer is also usually available at other onlien video sites, such as Vimeo, LiveLeak, DailyMotion, etc.

Again, this is where I trot out being raised in the Evangelical world. Ninety-five percent of the people I grew up with are the finest people you will ever know and, while they may be super annoying about trying to save you, they truly do believe hate the sin but not the sinner.

Then there's the other five percent. Of that five percent, a good 95% of them were saved out of the depths of sin and they've gone Full Saul and the vehemence with which they sinned is now the vehemence with which you must be saved and, one way or another, they WILL save you. It's not really about God with those people. It's about needing some channel into which to push a Messianic desire to perfect others as they believe they have been perfected.

Believing that humans can perfect humanity is actually heresy.

147 Those who have observed that she constantly shows signs of "only being in it for herself" and showing mostly just the lust for power don't typically understand that that makes her *more* terrifying as a busybody, not less. Not remotely.

She is literally engaging in MAKE EVERYBODY GOOD tyrannical fantasies to quiet the voices. The voices that tell her she really might not be successful, after all. We're past a decoupling, I think, of her sense that she's a good person, but she likes to think of herself as powerful, accomplished, maybe good by proxy because she makes other people do things if she can't be "good" herself. "DAMN IT, I'M GETTING THIS MONEY BECAUSE I DESERVE IT. THESE MISERABLE SHITS DON'T GET HOW MUCH BETTER THEY'LL BE"

She does things for money to do everything she wants, and power to do everything she wants, because that is the means to the Omnipotence She Deserves. If Obama believes only in himself, Hillary is giving the Satanic Cult of Hillary (herself) everything she can to aid in her own apotheosis.

Yeah, "Clinton Cash" demonstrates that whatever values she professes, she will abandon them for the right price, whether it's the Keystone Pipeline, Haiti disaster relief, even siding with Russia over America (uranium deal).

I have to wonder if shes chosen Russia as the boogeyman with the hack to distance her from Russia in people's minds, a way to inoculate them from believing she and Podesta have done so much business with Russia while she was at State.

Moral judgments are totally foreign to her mind. She is without any sort of morality. She only wants what she wants and if you get in her way she's going to make you wish you were never born.

Shrillary is not looking to perfect anyone or do any sort of good. She's only looking to make herself feel good - and that only happens when she's stealing stuff, destroying other people's stuff and making people fear her. Those are her only motivations.

In my church we have a cadre of navel gazers that just can see a difference between the felon and Trump. Why he is vulgar and such. Somehow they can never seem to get to the part of the 40 years of lies, corruption, treason, and death that is the felon and her spouse - the rapist.

"This is the first time in human history that the media has been a

state coercion or takeover."

Except... that the media don't think of themselves as tools of tyranny. Not in the least. Not for a microsecond. They instead view themselves as instruments of human liberation. Enablers of progress. Faithful foot soldiers against backwardness. Illuminators of the darkness of the lives of we "bitter clingers", which they desire and intend to improve for our own good.

The left's self-perception is always and invariably that they are the messengers of a brightly dawning new day for the world.

People may joke that others spend too much time on the internet, but
this intricate series of tubes has become an important part of everyday
life--so much so that it's become a human rights violation to take it
away.

That's according to the United Nations Human Rights Council, which
passed a non-binding resolution in June that condemns countries that
intentionally take away or disrupt its citizens' internet access.

There is also another phenomenon at work. Hillary's been told since Wellesley and Yale that she is among the intellectual elite.

When people like Bill and Hillary who consider themselves among the intellectual elite go into government work, and then in their fundraising they rub shoulders with assorted billionaires and other superwealthy people, they quickly come to believe that these people are no better, and maybe are inferior, to Bill and Hillary and that Bill and Hillary deserve to be superwealthy too, by virtue of their intellectual elite status and sacrifices by going into 'public service.'

It provides an internal rationalization for any and all corruption to line their own pockets or excuse their own bad behavior.

219 I'm far from #NeverTrump but I couldn't disagree with this more. She has left-wing sensibilities sure, but they're more of the gauzy "government is such a powerful tool for helping people it seems a shame not to use it" Baby-Boomer progressivism.

She'll mouth the platitudes on gay marriage and trans rights and BLM and the like ONLY BECAUSE THEY'RE A VEHICLE TO POWER. Does anyone doubt if the vast majority of the nation was still firmly opposed to SSM that she wouldn't be as well?

Both Clintons are tabula rasas for different segments of the political spectrum without much of an animating ideology. Bill was great at letting center-right folks and independents project their wishes and hopes onto him and, to the extent it allowed him to wield power, he would pursue their goals. Welfare reform, balanced budgets, tough on crime, etc. All those came about post-1994 because he realized he could never win reelection as a left-wing ideologue. He dropped his liberalism like a hot potato which tells me he didn't much care about being an ideologue anyway.

Conversely she's a tabula rasa for the left. I do think much of the left can see through the facade though. They sense that she is not "One of Us." They'll still probably pull the lever for her en masse, but I think they're under no illusions that, should they become a political liability, she will drop them at once.

The larger question is whether it's better to be ruled by a careerist. venal individual who will parrot your beliefs back to you in an imperfect cadence or to be ruled by a True Believer who speaks your ideology fluently because it's his native tongue?

Yeah I'm very proud of my local church for its lack of political talk from the pulpit. The pastor will preach against sin in the world and warn us about it, but then will preach against sin in our (and his) hearts, and why we need Christ for that. Politics is not the proper topic for a church service.

262 Hillary is the anti-King Canute.

Few of you may remember King Canute, an actual medieval-era English king who once had an extremely well-known moral fable attached to his legend:

The story goes that King Canute was surrounded by yes-man and advisors who endlessly praised him and whispered in his hear that he was all-powerful. But the king was wise and humble, and wanted to prove to his sycophants that they were wrong. So he had them carry his throne down to the beach at low tide, and as the waves began coming in, he commanded to water to stay back. But of course his commands were futile -- no matter what he said, the water rushed ever forward, and eventually washed over his legs. He turned to his courtiers and told them that only God was omnipotent, and that he, King Canute himself, was only only mortal, and that therefore they should all shut up and instead reserve their praise for God.

This seems like such a bizarre fable from the modern perspective, because it's about humility, something that is entirely lacking in the modern world.

If it had been Hillary on that throne, she would have screamed bloody murder at the waves and then beheaded everyone who failed to hold the tide back for her.

She's a Psychopath playing with an Ant Hill....

She has all the classic symptoms of being a Psychopath.... the Temper... but also the lack of emotion... lack of shame... and the total disdain for those around her.

Even her staying with Bill is a symptom... ie putting aside emotion for gain...

Being a Psychopath is not a problem, except there is a subset of them, who want to 'play with' other people... who get satisfaction from manipulation.... who get jollies from forcing people to do things which are bad for them, just to prove that they can be manipulated...

Hillary, IMO, falls into the category.

Yeah, she likes to make money. That just makes her like the rest of the left-wing leaders out there in China, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. She will sell her liberal positions to the suckers while she makes a ton of money and holds political power.

But, those industrialists were thoroughly under Hitler's bootheel. The level of bureaucracy and things they were required to do made it clear who was in charge.
And God forbid if they charged more for something than some bureaucrat felt was appropriate.
History will be repeating itself.

Unfortunately, I do, including Andy Crouch, who wrote about "speaking truth to Trump" last week in Christianity Today:

http://bit.ly/2dGBQaV

I probably lost friends on FB when I responded to another mutual friend who posted the article with a breathless "thank you for saying what I've been trying to say this whole time" sort of comment.

Like, I gather from the post, Tusk, I cannot take seriously those Christians who are wearing out their fainting couches and striving to outdo one another with their virtue signaling. It's laughable to posit that voting Trump presents an unsolvable and unavoidable Christian ethical conundrum (I like Andy, personally, but he manages to make out that voting strategically could be idolatry), but voting for Hillary is more of a garden variety level of objection to the Christian.

Someone had an interesting post about how the German Church went full Social Democrat and ended up in a pretty nasty place. Hard to see that we're too far behind.

Then, she couldn't go away; she had to be a Senator. Then President. Then Secretary of State, and then President.

Its ambition. Blind ambition. She had the insight to realize that the Goldwater train was not going to satisfy her, so she instead chained her life to a serial liar, womanizer and rapist. If she was a true believer in, say, "women," would she have remained in that relationship?

No. It was her personal ambition that made her stay. Over time, that became married to a bitter revanchism. Everything else is window dressing.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen at October 17, 2016 05:13 PM (gjyrg)

* Failed the DC bar exam
* Was excoriated for being unethical and criminal
* Nobody liked her because it was always about her and her shortcuts.

Once she got to Arkansas, everything was connected to Bill. Without him, no comfy law partnership because at best, she was a tenth rate hack. So she had to be the "breadwinner", even though her salary was just a kickback to Bill. She had to turn a blind eye to all his peccadilloes and manage the fallout.

She is an evil bitter creature who is still wondering what the hell happened on the way to her being a success.

That's not really true. BarkyCare was saved from actual death by a Republican - one of the Maine witches (the call of history ...) in the finance committee gave the vote to allow it out. Without that vote Barky Care would never have been resurrected.

As to the House, the GOP really did nothing to stop BarkyCare. Sure, they didn't vote for it, but they didn't pull any parliamentary procedures to really hinder its passage. They didn't even force one of the various 2500+ page bills to be read aloud before voting.

And the GOP Senate also helped out BarkyCare by allowing that vote at midnight on Christmas Eve (was it) in order to get .... I forget what they claimed they got in return but I remember that it was a total joke.

Yeah ... the GOP didn't vote for BarkyCare, but they certainly didn't want to stand in its way, too much, and they did help at some very important moments when it could have been crushed forever.

339 Trump really only wants to make his opponents think differently in one regard: He wants them to think Trump is awesome. Beyond that, as to what you think and say, he doesn't care.

----------------------------------------------------------------

True about the ego stuff, BUT he managed by either dumb luck or true belief to latch on the issue of 21st century: The nation state vs. Internationalism. Is the nation state the highest authority, or is it a developing international order?

Sort of the like conflict between states rights vs. federal authority in America, just supersized upon continents and across oceans.

I wonder sometimes if the reason so many politicians seem to not care about large national debts in the "industrialized world" is because they assume at some point they will be combined into a "world debt" assumed by a "world government".

Sort of how Alexander Hamilton took all the state debts and combined them as federal debt. That of course would increase the power of the government, like it did in America as Hamilton wanted.

Sounds crazy, but considering what we have seen so far is it so crazy? I am sure some radical internationalists at some think tank has already come up with this...at least in their mind.

Maybe there is some of that. I think mostly it's that they know most debt is held by other institutional players, and that its a big wink and nod between the EU, China, Japan, US, etc. etc about the debt. Japan counts US debt as an "asset" we count their debt as an "asset" so instead of it looking like there is an ungodly amount of liabilities floating around out there, they get a glass-half-full "hey, look at all of these awesome assets we have!" attitude.

get the regulatory boot off private business generally

stop pushing Common Core

stop violating laws to prop up Obamacare

trash the Iran disaster and work towards another policy more like the one recklessly abandoned by Obama

Exactly which policies Trump now publicly supports (and repeats in every public appearance) are so anathema, so scary for the dimwits who pretend to oppose him on any real substantive grounds?

Trade policy changes? Yeah, she likes to make money. That just makes her like the rest of the left-wing leaders out there in China, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. She will sell her liberal positions to the suckers while she makes a ton of money and holds political power.
When she leaves, she will leave a rotted husk of the former republic that was the United States of America.

She's had plenty of opportunity over the years to advance The Cause and she didn't. Now those on the ideologue side of the question will argue that it's only so she can get elected or reelected or retain power, but that makes the other side's point. She cares much more about power and ambition than she does ideology because, when given a choice between the two, she chooses power. Even if you argue that she only obviates her beliefs to attain power, she never seems to spend in furtherance of left-wing goals UNLESS those goals happen to carry no political consequences for her.

The only thing Hillary Clinton is a True Believer in is Hillary Clinton.

365 Trade policy changes? News bulletin: actually changing any existing trade policies or agreements, as opposed to modifying or not pursuing new ones, is mostly NOT something the executive can do very much on its own. Little trifles called treaties and laws, and 0% chance any unilateral mischief there would survive 1 month in the courts.

our "free" "trade" "deals" are not treaties. No way any would get 2/3 of the Senate. They're legislation, like anything else. "Easily" repealed.

His performance at the Republican primary debates was just one gotcha attempt after another.

With Wallace, it will be one gotcha question after another for Trump. The seeming surface contradiction is what he is after. Like, isn't it a contradiction for to claim Bill Clinton's accusers are credible but your own are not?

For Hillary, her campaign is undoubtedly identifying the two or three weakest points she needs to address and Wallace will be allowed to ask questions on those points, and Hillary will be carefully prepared to address them. So there will be those two or three seeming "hardball" questions for Hillary so Wallace can claim he was fair and impartial. The rest for her will be softballs.

429 I recently read the complete transcript of the Carter-Reagan debate (there was only one). What jumps out at you is that, while the media certainly hated Reagan's guts (I was there and I well remember) the debate moderators were, to a person - including a young Baba Wawa, unscrupulously fair, balanced and professional. Substantive questions, probing follow-ups and nary a "gotcha question" in the entire debate. Remarkably well done by all.

When did it all go so very wrong? I'm now tempted to do a forensic re-reading of all the presidential debate transcripts since then. Might make for a fascinating essay I'll write but no one will read.

Dating apps provide enough sexually willing partners to keep them from feeling the need to marry and have kids. But with Hillary they will get the worst of mom and the worst kind of wife. Yeah, I'm not saying I think trump is going to win -- I mean part of the reason I don't really give a shit about this election is that I'm pretty convinced that D's have the numbers on their side, have the media (who can goose turn out better than any GOTV effort), and have pop culture.

The first 30 minutes he was solid, it was after that were had not rehearsed how to address issues that everyone saw coming. He didn't need to go scorched Earth, just sound more coherent.

Like for example the birther stuff, everyone saw that question coming, Trump just kept saying Sidney Blumenthals name over and over, and 99% of Americans have no idea who this guy is. An easy soundbyte should have been rehearsed detailing that she started the whole thing.

Same with the Iraq War, Trump just kept shouting "Sean Hannity!!" when he could have had a better answer to address his position.

None of them had a strategy to fight Hillary's machine, but Trump has somehow defied the slings and arrows...she should be 50 points up, she is barely 5 points up in weighted polling. Not sure what else she could throw at him but the rape allegations certainly are not sticking, no matter how frequently they are mentioned by the MSM.

There mah have been, May have been an idealistic streak in Shrillary in her youth. Doubtful but possible.
But true idealism in the service of others does not use methods from "the dark side."
Her history of use of those types of methods goes way back.
She is in it for herself, period. Not one humble bone in her body.
Evil through and through.
And she is very pragmatic in achieving her goal.

Also, there has never been a human that walked the earth that didn't have an inherent need to believe in something.
Often times that belief is wrong but it's a belief nontheless.

549 I'd put this on my blog but nobody reads it and I'm just tired of the whole thing:

We are in a time in America where everyone is massively divided on politics, to the point of tooth-gnashing rage over every single issue and candidate. Not just divided like two friends, but turning into enemies with furious bitterness. The last time this happened, we erupted into the bloodiest and most ghastly war in American history.

And I know the cause. Its not "heated rhetoric" or the internet, or radicalism in candidates or culture wars, although all that contributes.

Its power. The federal, state, and local governments have gotten so much power over every aspect of our lives that instead of being a contest over which fellow will waste our time and smoke cigars in office, they affect us in critical, absolute ways. The bloat and expansion of the government at all levels, particularly federal means that there's too much at stake every election. We're not voting for representatives. We're voting for our future, desperate to control what the state can and will do.

Even just thirty years ago nobody seriously believed the government would monitor all our phonecalls and drag people off to prison. Nobody seriously believed that you could be arrested for how the dust blew off your property when you plowed a field or where you smoked. Nobody believed you could be fined or jailed for who you baked a cake for or didn't. And already by that time the federal government was far too vast.

Now its even bigger, exponentially, like the Blob. Its eating everything. And that means every election everything is at stake. The last 8 years of President Obama has seen a deliberate, systematic, and overwhelming drive from the top down to totally change the culture and throw everything that we know and became in America away for something radical and new.

Even if you believe this is a good change, its so fast and so dominating and so top-down that it is incredibly disruptive to culture and our identity as a nation, not to mention the function and identity of the nation in the world at large. And that is something people do not take lightly or go through easily, even if they aren't really aware of what's happening.

Every election becomes ever more important and the stakes get ever higher, because every election the federal government has spread further like a cancer devouring more and more freedom, power, and influence. Each election is a desperate bid to control that power, because of how it can and will be used.

And as each presidency goes by, we see that power used for more and more extreme and expansive things -- in the name of doing good and helping out of course -- but used either way. So each election is more horrifying and important. The stakes have gotten so high that I fear there will be blood on the streets before the next one.

And there's only one way out of this: for the monster to be cut back, for the government to shrink. And I see no possible way for that to happen within the system and within the boundaries of law.

So it's not surprising to see some Evangelicals going full retard NeverTrump, and despite their bloviating their voting impact may be the same as previous elections. I'm going back further, to ancient Rome. A fascio was a bundle of branches that would be used to beat someone who broke the law. The emperor's fascio had an axe blade stuck in it; only he could kill with this tool. In the Leftist's mind, that's all there is to any of this.

Consider carrots and sticks without regard to specific policies: Trump wants to give a tax break for parents who need day care for their kids. That's a "carrot" approach. Government has done this with everything from clock thermostats to retirement savings. Uncle Sam is your partner, as they used to say.

ObamaCare could have sold easily with carrots - raise taxes, then give a tax break for anyone with health insurance - but they used the "stick" approach instead. That's Obama, and that's Clinton. Uncle Sam is your master. Do what (s)he says or get hit with a stick.

580 Idle thought: I wonder if there was, pre-Bill and during the "Goldwater Girl" phase, a GOP version of Bill. Promised to take her places (politically speaking), she'd be wealthy and powerful, etc. Then he burned her. It would explain the conversion to the left, Bill, hell even the rug munching.

585 Her changeability is so scary.

For the best of all possible reasons (Her parents were GOP), she began her adult life as the Tracy Flick of Republicans.

Then she attends the 1968 RNC & hears Nixon speak in person, and suddenly, in a matter of a few years, the blink of an eye in the history of humans, she was the Tracy Flickier of Democrats.

Then, a mere 48 years later, not even half a century for gawd's sake, she ... well, she's still a Dem - the all time Tracy Flickiest of Ds.

Gaaaaah, women are so changeable.

And good for Ace for seeing how freaking bang on Tusk nailed her: her insane religious zealotry for tolerance, empathy, understanding and compromise is absolutely the most frightening prospect in human history since the Inquisition!

Posted by: Margarita DeVille at October 17, 2016 06:31 PM (Nox3c)

Younger people voted for Obama. So did the Boomers.(Auto correct).

Please defend the Boomers electing the same people over and over again in a transparent one party system. They were lazy and not vigilant about educating themselves to protect liberty. They acted selfish as a group only concerned with economic comfort for themselves. They are the only generation to leave America noticeably worse off than when they held the reigns.

Sucks but so does the truth. Along with gynocentric Culture the Boomers enabled and nourished.

Just get tired of people scapegoating on the under 40 age group as the scource of our countries ills. Who do you think raised that group and propped up the culture they live in.

607 This is sort of moronic. For all the focus on Hillary specifically, the real problem is the cultural left-wing core of the party she will not challenge. If they hadn't increased significantly in the last 4-8 years I wouldn't've put it past her to adopt more moderate positions on select issues.

Of course, this is technical & doesn't really matter, and I'm sure there's certain things she's always been ideologically committed to personally. But the broader problem is who's powering the Democratic Party right now.

If you guys do a lazy Hillary-ized version of "the ALINSKYITE ROOTS of Barack Obama" assuming she wins, you played yourself

619 This discussion of Hillary reminds me of Rubio's disastrous debate where he was sandbagged by Christie into repeating himself. Rubio was dispensing wisdom on Obama, and insisting that Obama was not merely incompetent, but was redefining America by design, even if the disastrous results naturally felt like the work of an incompetent. Rubio made a grave tactical performance editor in his insistence on winning a point that was nuanced and ill-suited for a debate stage with many participants and consequentially limited time (it may have been more effective later on with a thinned herd) and Christie was effective in characterizing it as formulaic (it wasn't) and repetitive (it was, Rubio needed to expound on the point, but just repeated it).

But on the merits Rubio was correct: Obama has never been inept, nor has he been penetrable to compromise. Rather, he has been effective in driving his agendas: a larger public sector vs. private sector, a diminished American authority globally, a redistribution of power in the Middle East that has weakened Israel and bolstered Iran, an increased strain and coarsening in race relations coupled with leftist solutions of appeasement of criminals and capitulation by police, a lessening of religious liberty, an increased acceptance of open border immigration, and so on.....

These were not accidents. These were not the result of compromise. These were not failed policy. These were the policy, a continuation thereof will be the policy of Hillary Clinton, and we should assume that she will be just as capable as her infamous predecessor in accomplishing more of what he conceived and implemented.

622 re: 180° conversion

No such thing. Paul is often used as an example (Acts 9) but it is not true. Saul was 100% FOR God before his conversion and he was 100% FOR God after his conversion (as Paul). His error was only that he was in error as to who he thought God was. I have seen an extreme orthodox Christian girl become an extreme activist lesbian almost over night - and yet truly she did not change - she was arrogant and self-righteous both before and after - EXACTLY the same. Conversion comes only in humilty - none of which is seen in Hillary.
